"Giant" covers the lives of the three siblings growing up in the 1970's and their pursuit for revenge; Lee Kang-Mo (Lee Beom-Soo), his younger sister Lee Mi-Joo (Hwang Jung-Eum) & his older brother Lee Sung-Mo (Park Sang-Min).

Lee Kang-Mo's father died due to Hwang Tae-Seob (a friend of his father) and Jo Pil-Yeon. Because of this, Lee Kang-Mo lost his mother and had to separate from his younger sister and two brothers. By a cruel twist of fate, Kang-Mo is then raised by Hwang Tae-Seob (Lee Deok-Hwa). Kang-Mo also falls in love with Hwang Tae-Seob's daughter Hwang Jung-Yeon (Park Jin-Hee). Now Lee Kang-Mo & Hwang Jung-Yeon's relationship changes as Lee Kang-Mo becomes driven for revenge.

Lee Mi-Joo (younger sister of Lee Kang-Mo) loves Jo Min-Woo, Jo Pil-Yeons one and only son (Joo Sang-Wook). Unfortunately for Lee Mi-Joo, she falls pregnant, and is told by her brothers that she must get rid of the child and leave Jo Min-Woo, instead, she runs away, giving birth to a little boy Kang Woo-Ju. After the birth of their baby, Lee Mi-Joo attempts to hide her single mom status from those around her. Mi-Joo finds success in her career, eventually becoming a star. She also becomes the step-daughter of Congressman Oh Byeong Tak, who later passes away from a mysterious accident. Mi-Joo enlists the help of her brother Lee Kang-Mo to destroy her former lover Jo Min-Woo, even though she still loves him.

Lee Sung-Mo (older brother of Lee Kang-Mo) is an agent for the Korean Intelligence Agency. He was picked for the agency by Jo Pil-Yeon (Jung Bo-Suk) - the man that killed his father. Lee Sung-Mo is then able to find his brother Lee Kang-Mo and younger sister Mi-Joo. He tells his younger brother Lee Kang-Mo that two men, Jo Pil-Yeon and Hwang Tae-Seob, are connected with the death of their father. Lee Sung-Mo carefully details his discovery on paper. Lee Sung-Mo dreams of exacting revenge but is then shot by Go Jae-Cun and becomes mentally disabled ...

Especially Jeong Yeon's mom lived with her father when she worked in the bar and when she was just 19 and ofc Jeong yeon's father was much older than her mother, so that the miscast info for these 2 actress is all wrong

Second: The plot synopsis is not correct. "She also becomes the step-daughter of Congressman Oh Byeong Tak" is wrong. She never became the above. AND "Mi-Joo enlists the help of her brother Lee Kang-Mo to destroy her former lover Jo Min-Woo" is also wrong. She did not seek to destroy Jo Min-Woo.

So, I've begun to not rely on the plot synopsis from this site, or the streaming site I use, to persuade my viewing, OR the rating of dramas.

Third: Mentions of the (FL) main female lead and her mother being miscast, pertaining to the FL "looking older than" is also wrong. The casting was perfection.

Fourth: I highly recommend Giant for its loose potrayal of Republic of Korea's history. Having watched countless dramas ove the years, each one has driven me to reseach historical "points" to gain a true and better understanding of her history, so now the references are grasped quickly. In the case of Giant, the "reference" to the Sampoong Department Store collapse, the country wide protesting for democracy which includes the Gwangju Uprising, the student torture, etc.

Anh Minh Aug 25 2021 9:39 am Omg, this is the fifth time I watch this drama again but it did not make me bored, I too love the chemistry between Mi Joo and Min Woo they are such really great couple, the best couple having best chemistry I have ever seen. From the young casts to the mature casts, all had done their great job in acting, just really love this drama, the best Kdrama ever, I was impressed by its scripts, OST , the popularity and the rating. I wonder why did this drama was not in the top of the best Kdrama of decade and took Daesang award at that time, anyway it was Daesang in my mind.

The script, the cast and also the Ost are really perfect, also the loveline between Jo Min Woo and Lee Mi Joo or Lee Gang Mo and Hwang Jeong Yeon are really great, especially WooJoo couple, their chemistry is the best,and this is one of the couples I like most in Kdrama. This is one of the best drama ever ive ever watched, and it is my favorite one ????????????

jz Apr 04 2020 12:54 pm some of you i noticed didn't favor the idea of Park jin hee being cast as the dtr of Kim seo yeong but in real life PJH was born in 1978 & KSY in 1970 therefore if we really analyze it their age gap in real life isn't that much but yes i think they shld've chosen a rather older mother for PJH in this drama! Even if you think KSY as her mother was much younger when she had her, i think it still didn't make sense at all!

I also hope they team up again, their chem was so good in this drama! If one hasn't seen this drama, you're missing a whole lot! :) the other cast were just as good!

It’s really illogical as Kim Seo Hyung looks so much more younger & fabulous than Park Jin Hee. Park Jin Hee should be given a very much older role to act rather than casting as Hwang Jung Yeon. Park Jin Hee doesn’t suits the role as Hwang Jung Yeon at all. The drama is nice but the role of Hwang Jung Yeon is being spoilt by Park Jin Hee. What a waste.

JinHEE Mar 10 2017 5:23 pm The drama is really GIANT for all of the information it contents. Among all, Im preferably impressed of the loyalty of the good and bad subordinates. Chan Sung and Jae Chun! I would give them a medal for their great and total loyalties. From the birth of the characters to their deaths, none of betrayal sign is shown. The perfect serving I would say.. They are the best who overcome all struggles to brings successes to their masters. And Go Jae Chun acts like a ronin who fail to protect his master.. Still, he never loses hope on Jo Pil Yeon at any second, even to the death! I knew they would replace the oldest brother by the youngest one since their fates are to be separated by their own hatreds toward pains from the past. However I still enjoy 60 episodes and gained a GIANT lesson: you have to live, since you are not free to die, yet!

JOHN Feb 17 2017 5:39 am i hav always watched this movie over and over again, but i seem not to get enough of it. i love that act ov JO MINOW, very confident even if he were doing a wrong thng! i loved how kang mo & hwan handled their love, kept it til da very end! jo pi lyeon,,, showed a character ov a man who can do any thng 4 money. its such a movie dat i hav realy loved en i w'ld only suggest that u avail us da english version ov it coz apparently, its only available in korean language although it has sub tittles!

lpa Jan 10 2016 12:58 am I liked most of the actors in this drama, but hated the whiney, high pitch voice and laughter of the villan. It was a little too much for 60 episodes! I was really interested in the story for the first two-thirds but started to lose interest the last third. without giving anything away, the last three episodes were disappointing. I usually like surprises or twists, but they seemed boring and predictable with a lot of time gaps and logic holes. I thought the ending was just sort of blah. There was no hope or awe or any other memorable factors in conclusion of such a long drama.

One of the commenters below remarked, "I loved 'Empress Ki' and 'Dong Yi'..." I really loved both of those dramas too but "Giant" was not even close to either of them. Besides the fact they are historical dramas (which I'm a fan of), I am not sure what that person was trying to say.

Sous Aug 05 2015 4:59 pm I agree with Redusb, and I would like to add that only this drama and empress Ki that was over 20 Eps and I never felt bored watching them, I have a problem with my concentration span and I usually lose interest in a drama after ep7 but with this drama I watched every bit of it feeling all sorts of emotions but never bored. This is not just another Korean romantic drama, the struggle and revenge in it is perfect as well as the love story is second to none, however, I am not talking about the main lead love story but rather the second lead which is a bit strange in Korean dramas. Absolutely one of the best dramas written, not just in Korea, but I would say all over the world.

If you will die, and allowed to live for just another 90 hours, give your time to your loved ones and to this drama. It is not a joke. A life without watching Giant is a life lived with foolishness. To describe all the greatness of this drama. I dont know where to start omg. This drama is too perfect, it's too genius... It's very worthwhile. Aghhhh. Wait! I cant do this!

Let me start by STATING a matter of fact. I am a complete coward that I do not start any drama that exceeds the 18 episode mark. Watching a 20 episode is bravery and martyrdom enough for me. I started this drama with the INTENTION of watching until Episode 12 only, for the bragging rights that "I have indeed watched Giant, and found it dull and too long." BUT BOY, I ate my own words, and shame on me!

This drama gripped my emotions, my intellect, my time and my dreams. And it is my OWN choice to accord my life learning from all characters in the drama. This drama changed my way of thinking. In the end, I was left astounded. Why? I hit the Ep60 mark, and I was THIRSTING for more. It could not be THAT short! 60 episodes is too short. Goodness, what gem is this? Does the world even deserve this? It does not matter if we watch 10eps or 16eps drama, but GIANT has its definite, SURREAL magic that makes 60episodes just a split second of world discovery.

Life and reality; its beauty, its confusion and its consequences... all in here, beautifully shown and crafted to tug every aspect of the heart. GIANT might make something out of you--- a successful person. If you only allow it to influence you.

The three siblings(Lee Beom Soo,Lee Sung Mo,and Hwang Jung Eum) acted like they were really brother and sister but they're not they are so good at acting Park Jin Hee also made a cute couple with Lee Beom Soo,but the cutest couple were Joo Sang Wook and Hwang Jung Eum but i frlt really bad for Joo Sang Wook when Hwang Jung Eum kept avoiding and rejecting him i cried so much! It was such a sad drama! But i like it! If only i could meet all the characters in that movie.............. Joo Sang Wook is so cute! he's like my favorite character! He is so freaken handsome!

If you ask me Joo Sang-Wook had a flawless acting and he made the film more than the main actor...at least he and Hwang Jung-Eum seemed a modern Romeo and Juliette with a better end. And there are a few I'd call my biases, he is one of them...that smileeeeeeeeeee, I want a bf that has this type of smile, this is actually the first thing I see at a guy...I sure wish he would get more main roles and more attention

It was fab from the first episode till the end. now I am thinking of watching it again. highly recommend it.

With a wonderful cast, strong performances and a flawless plot, in my opinion this is the most well done korean drama that I have ever seen and I was pleasantly impressed in every aspect of it Starting with the accuracy of the script, the soundtrack, the settings and of course the talented actors who did their best to deliver us a wonderful drama.

AgriPina Jan 06 2014 4:50 am Outstanding drama. The story and all of the actors/actresses were superb here, even for the teenage actors/actress. I wish I could give 10thumbs up to this drama. Jung Bo-Suk is the best villain I've ever seen in Korean drama. I ever read an article that said that Jo Pil Yeon is his first ever villain role. I never regret to spend my 60 hours for Giant :D :D

gellai_18 Sep 16 2013 2:26 am This drama is truly a gem. I have watched hundred of dramas but this one really touched my heart. I don't know how many times I cried from the very first episode. It's been a long time since I felt this way. I remember the last kdrama that really touched me like this was "Memories of Bali" and "secret garden". From then on I became a big fan of Ha ji won and Jo Insung. But now I can say that joo sang wook surpassed them all. I love him as much as I love Insung. No, I'm crazy over him. I watched every program he's in especially on that win win segment, and I love him even more on that. I was really moved with his love to miju. I think their charater "minwoo" and "miju" will last in me for a very long time. More power to you joo sang wook oppa. Hope you got more lead roles because u just deserved that. I'll be a forever fan of yours.

chri Jun 22 2013 2:43 pm av watched many korean series but this has been the best one. at first when i say the covers i though its a serie for people fighting with guns like other movies that i have been watching. but later as i went on to watch i realized that its not like the usual films av been watching and its special. av learnt from it most especially in politics and av really liked it. i did not miss even any episode and it was translated very well in our local language and therefore i would understand every thing well

Izanagi Jun 18 2013 8:59 pm As you observe at first, East of Eden and Giant have similar plot, they are same with revenge thing, lee kang mo VS jo pil yeon VS lee dong chul VS Shin tae wan. And also with the bond with their siblings but as you go far with them , their difference begin to merge and as you observe, Giant became more intense, enthusiastic, funny and mind-bugging than EOE........boring and irrelevant scenes are to be observed so far in EOE but this is only my opinion and it is not definitely a general information

tncdel Jun 08 2011 3:17 am I've watched over a hundred K-dramas by now. This one here, "Giant," is about middle-of-the-road. Not great. Not bad. A bit uninspiring and boring at times. Adequate or better at others.

The main actor, Lee Boem-Su, sometimes over-acted, but was fairly good overall. But the main villain, Jeong Bo-Seok, was too over-the-edge, and would have been better cast in a campy Hollywood Batman movie as the "Joker" or another villain always over-doing the evil-laugh routine and sneering like an old-time Silent-film villain.

The woman who played Park Jin-Hee's mother,Yoon Yoo Sun, was a competent actress, but was slightly miscast in that she didn't look old enough to play the mother.

I grew weary of watching the over-acting by the stepmother and her son. Was glad when she was written out of the script by dying.

sarah May 06 2011 11:08 pm im not korean but i have watched a few korean drama. so far, 'giant' is one of the two best i have watched. all the stars portrayed their characters very well and the stort between miju and minwoo is very touching. however, the editor of this wiki seems to mix-up the story line. id love to watch more stories like this...keep it up!!! id also like to thank the translators who made it possible for us to understand the stories and thumbs up to the director and writer of this great drama. salut!

Min woo and Mi Joo are the best couples... and their child Woo ju and ... Park sang min (Sung mo) are very very cute.. wanna have brothers like Sung mo and Kang mo.... like all the characters in it and their acting in it is so so good... GIANT is a highly recommended drama..

I cried a lot and fall in love with the romantic storyline between jo min woo and lee min joo. I thought the two characters were very convincing in their lovestory and acting... The kids did an awesome job potraying their characters.. Watching this drama made me look different perspective about korea.. I really really like it a lot. Thanks ya'll. Have a good one.

I said "i've stayed up late for 2days(sorry i meant 2 nights) to finish the episodes" but i don't mean i spent two days to finish them. Anyway, I don't think it's important what how many days i've spent to finish the 60 eps. What i realy like to say is Giant is a great drama with good plot and cast! At the end of the day, it is what matters here, isn't it? cheers

Among so many wonderful actors and actress, i love Park sang ming best. i think his is one of the best actors i've ever known. He just intreprets his role perfectly, a great brother who gives all his love to his siblings and ready to sacrify for them any time and a calm, cautious and smart agent in front of the killer of his father.....His every look and gesture reveal unbelievable charasma...GOsh, he's amazing. I watch most of his scences again and again and feel so sorry he died in such a tragic way...T_T...hope to c more his performce coming soon. Park sang ming, i love you!!!
