"Yakou Kanransya" follows three families who reside in the wealthy residential neighborhood of Hibarigaoka: the Endo family, Takahashi family and Kojima family.

Mayumi Endo (Kyoka Suzuki) has dreamt of living in Hibarigaoka and is finally able to build a home there. Meanwhile, Mayumi's daughter Ayaka, who failed her high school entrance exam, inflicts domestic violence upon her mother. Neighbors can hear an angry voice.

Meanwhile, the Takahashi family lives across from the Endo family. The Takahashis consists of the father who is a doctor, the mother, daughter who attends the elite private high school that Ayaka failed to get into and a son who is good in sports. Their house is spectacular and they appear perfectly happy.

One day, the father in the Takahashi home is murdered. Detectives believe the killer is an acquaintance of the murdered father. Then, the son, who is presumed to have been at their home when the murder occurred, goes missing. People begin to think that the son killed the father.

Nick Beacham-Watts Jun 13 2018 4:23 pm Having finished the entire drama now I can ssay it is very extradinary. There is a resolution and many things are tidied up. However, the turn of events were just as sudden and almost as unexplained as when events first went wrong and Akaya filed the entrance exam and turned ferral and evil. Shiho is a truly awful character and the bulling she and her palls inflicted was brutal and terrifying. I was so pleased when finally Akaya broke the cycle and stood up to her: better late than never! The cast and acting was of a high order. They had a very difficult task in portaying these events. The direction and production was extreem, the repition of the "crazy" behaviour of Ayaka was too much. Everything was done to highten the tension and make this not only a mystery but a melodrama, and the music was overdone at times to the point of intrusion - without the subtitles then some scenes would have been imposible to follow. Finally, for anyone who has not watched it yet, finish each episode before the previews start rolling; they also confuse and spoil the drama. A very moving and difficult subject but also strangely satisfying drama.

The aged mother, obsessed with Hibarakia Hills and her owners committee is obnoxious and mad. The interaction and friendship between the two mother's is endearing. But the decent into chaos and the murder is unsatisfactory as it is deliberatly made not only chaotic but irrational. With only two more episodes to come There has been little or no resolution with only minor points of illumination. The troubled daughter who failed the private school exam should have talked to her parents, she should also have explained the bullying and saught help and protection. Many of the outcomes are made worse by her inaction and confusingly she seems to like the Yoshiyuki boy, yet turns against him and his familly yet confusingly wants to help him. I feel like this will have an unsatisfactory conclusion and many questions will go unanswered.

Jay Quintana Jan 15 2016 6:32 pm I've enjoyed many of Kanae Minato's adaptions -- High School Exam, For N, Penance, Chain of Flowers, Confessions. I really didn't care for this one. I'm referring to the first five episodes. It's more a melodrama than a mystery. I wish it were reversed. Will force myself to watch the series to the end.
