Crappy drama.... very slow-paced... too many loopholes.... main actors are good except that shaman girl has monochromatic acting. Storyline isn't that great especially the 23rd episode where they didn't secure the sacred flute and it just got effortlessly stolen by Sadam, I don't why the writer/creator of the story made it happen for them to be so careless..... the CGI though is great especially @episode 1 whrn the dragon was awaken. I was thinking to myself"this mabe a great drama".... but in the end I was so disappointed and didn't finish the 23rd episode especially the sacred flute 2as easily stolen by Sadam.

Reah Apr 20 2019 5:30 am The story is good but the actors/actresses' dialogues are not interesting enough to keep the movie exciting. They can act better but their performances are being controlled by the poor exchanges of dialogues. They keep repeating the statement "I won't let you do it" however they didn't do anything to stop it successfully. Also, they keep screaming even when it's not necessary. It's disappointing coz they can do so much better??

Heijel Feb 06 2019 11:06 am Great drama! I'm not very fond of magic, ghosts, and monsters but this show definitely did a good job at making it interesting. Jung Il Woo did his best at portraying Lee Rin and I love how he didn't give a damn about how ridiculous he will look at the camera crying and making those silly facial expressions, still, he looks good no matter what he do. He did his best and it shows! Looking forward to his new historical drama Haechi. Let's give our support to him. Welcome back Jung Il Woo, fighting!

Arihant Dec 29 2017 7:42 am Went in with a lot of hesitation due to very scathing reviews this one has got .Have just completed 9 eps so far and am surprised at the quality the show delivers.Jung Il woo is awesome (as expected) but the other supporting characters are also great.Also,this has the fantasy element right on (Dragon looked cool in ep 1!) and the ghosts are well depicted.Music was surprisingly good again..

Have high hopes now for this..

It may start off slow however I'm so hooked on dramas from this era. Life 4 the low class was extremely hard. Such abuse hardships they had to deal with. Heart breaking how they were treated worse than dogs.

I only watch this till the end as I already wasted too much time watching almost half of it hoping for a good episodes, but nothing. It just annoy me. This just my opinion based on my own taste.

I really feel sorry for you that they didn't appreciated your work and talent after the Night Watchman and The Fashion King.. mia Dec 20 2015 3:25 am Yunho is more handsome than jung woo in this movie just because they made jung woo miserable and cry too much. This is a great movie, I love it. I don't see anything wrong with the female lead role. The actors/actresses in this movie did well cause I don't know why you guys debate on the movie and criticise the casts when you people are not even capable of acting. It freaks me out a lot. Instead try to praise them so they can improve and besides must u guys look at their mistake. No one is perfect. I love the movie and the casts. Kudos to you all

Melody Nov 01 2015 9:57 am I'm only mid halfway of the show and I have to say Yunho should just stick to singing, he's not THAT bad but he ain't good either. Just average and very stiff. It's my first time watching a drama with Ko Sung Hee in it, and all i have to say is, it wasnt a good first impression lol. Her character is kinda annoying and very nosey and pretty much a cry baby. Seo Yea Ji was my fav tho she was like *SPOILER* sort of a bad guy throught out halfway of the series

This drama started very well I couldn't even stop watching it but as the ending approach it started to irritate me.They made the character so dumb like they don't have brains, specially Do ha. I feel like the title should be "The Night watchman Journal and the dumbness of Doha" But if I would to rate the whole drama it'll be 5/10 because I really love the beginning but it sucks in the ending part.

Random Aug 14 2015 12:06 am Yunho's acting was beyond terrible. One or two expressions for just about every single emotion in his repertoire. Every time he was onscreen he was like a black hole sucking all the life away. Bad acting from him and Go Sung Hee. Plus terrible writing. Someone sack the writer and never let him/her work in the industry ever again. And damn Sadam. Someone sack the costume guy. He must think that 60s club wear is supposed to be scary and menacing. Made him look like a gay twink courtesan.

Jung Il Woo was trying so hard, but dude, pick better projects, it's a waste of your talent. This was a sinking ship before it started. Yunho, damn - just quit acting and release your albums faster. You haven't improved after all these years. Recognize it and just fuck off already.

Betsy Aug 11 2015 4:26 pm When the Drama came out i couldn't overcome myself to watch it, because i thought it wouldnt be to my liking.

i just finished this Drama and i only watched it because i had to wait that "I remember you" were subbed. I totally are not regretting to started watching it.

The Storyline was great, also the Actors and Actresses were well picked. I am no perticular Fan of any of the celebs in this Drama but i must say that i enjoyed it. All 24 episodes in 2 Days :D Of course there are some things i am bit disappointed about. For example the Lead Actress (Do ha) was the Successor of her Clan but couldn't really do a Thing in this Drama. All she did was growing a flower and poisening herself. I hoped in every single Episode that she would do some awesome act like the bad guy did :D Well i hoped the writers would have given her more power.

I can't understand why so many People here are thinking that this was a bad Drama. Well everyone has it one oppinion.

Jammer Jun 30 2015 4:35 am i already completed episode 22 and in the middle of episode 23 ... i should say i did my best to keep my patience in continuing to watch this series ... but what a the heck happened in episode 23? what stupidity did the writer made? why left the seal in the prayer room? a very precious thing like the seal to be left in the prayer room so sadam without any effort was able to use it against the good guys ... what a shame grrrrrr. anyways one more episode and i will be able to finish this series ... just for the sake of finishing i will bear the agony of watching hahahahaha

Female lead was really terrible actress, i just could't believe she could act as lead along side with Jung Il Woo who is a very good actor. Btw Yunho's acting was really good, too.

Since I am not a fan of any actors in this drama, then I believe I can give a fair opinion. This drama sucks. It started off promising at the beginning. But, as it advances, the plot is getting more and more crappy. But it's still bearable coz I managed to get to the last episode just for the sake of finishing it. as for acting, go sung hee's acting is weak but she's still new so it's understandable. overall, for me it's 3/10..

Davia Feb 28 2015 10:46 pm Kim Heung Soo really should win an award for this. HIs acting was so authentic and that was such a hard part to play. Over all I really enjoyed this drama and in fact couldn't stop watching it. The writing has a lot of flaws and the lead couple are not the strongest actors but they did try hard and did a pretty decent job. The other actors were all really good. I am really glad that I watched this.

Katana Draco Feb 24 2015 10:15 am I really liked this drama. I have to say one of my fave characters was Sadam. He really stole the show. He just wouldn't give up and kept on going right to the end. I also think that Sang Heon was a bigger part of the show to. He was by far smarter then most of the others and the plot with him and Sadam was really strong. I did like the three main characters but I didn't feel that they where as strong as those two. The music in this drama was also very good.I also loved the ghost to. Though I don't know if it was just me but where there times when you wanted to smack some of them upside the head and ask them what in the world they we're thinking at the time. All in all a very good drama.

Caroline Jan 03 2015 11:25 am @anzu Some people over here in Europe are not die fans of TVXQ's Yunho, but still, they only heard of this drama because of Yunho. He has a pretty big fanbase in Europe and he is more popular than IL Woo (who is not well known over here). If you check out fan sites and public appeal in other countries around Asia and Latin America, Yunho is more famous overall than IL Woo. Jung IL Woo is a good actor, but not great. He is NOT one of the best compared to the A-list actors and actresses.

I really don't understand people when commenting and still wonder what those comments meant because it is total nonsense and have nothing to do with the drama.guys if you can't watch a drama then please switch over to cartoons.stop creating your own idea of a scene on how the movie should go while watching it because it will spoil the anxiety and suspense of watching it making you see faults where there is none.some commented that there was lack of romance,maybe but to me the Romantic scenes BTW prince Wolgang(Jung il-woo) and Do ha(ko sung hee) were enough to show or make viewers believe that they were in love,while others were commenting on another thing entirely like comparing actors together making those that search online to see whether this drama is a must watch lose interest,well YES,this movie is a must watch and I assure you that you won't regret it.Kudos and thumbs up to Jung il- woo and other cast members and cant for more romantic dramas between ko sung hee and Jung il-woo(lovely chemistry together) and again wow to the crew behind this wonderful drama.

I finished it because I had to finish what I've started.. the idea was amazing, and the graphics was very good; but when it comes to acting and directing.. it was like hell. I felt like watching a korean version of Power Rangers. Ko Sung-Hee had very bad acting skills!!!!!.... The only good actors were Kim Sung-Oh as "Sadam", and Kim Heung-Soo as "prince Kisan".. and maybe Seo Ye-Ji and Yoon Tae-Young.... for the directing it was the Worst, things happened and you don't know how they happened.. anyone can deceive the other in a very lame way as if they were kids, hard situations can be handled easily.. so there were so many things that didn't make sense !!!!!!!!!!.. as if it was made by high school students and it was boring. too bad to waste such a good idea :(

Plus there's also Yunho <3 As for criticism, well let's just say there's just too many unrealistic choking scenes lol :L The drama is also quite lacking in the romance department. It's also annoying that the main female character is your typical stupid and naive girl that goes running into every obvious situation without a second thought =.="

Ann Oct 31 2014 8:02 am I was excited to watch this because of Jung Il-Woo! The first few episode is good but after a while its getting boring.. I don't like some of the scene, it makes the viewer stupid. I also don't like Do-Ha, she's pretty yes but her acting skill was not so good

Though I don't agree with some points/scenes in the story, I still find it good & entertaining. Kudos to those behind the special effects...and of course, an applause for the entire cast! For Louisanna, whenever I need to search for some background music in a drama, I just go to youtube and key in the title of the drama plus OST (official soundtrack). Just be patient to go through each. Good luck!

Unlike Yunhoo, this is his first historical drama... so the writer and the directors helped him..

I really love the premise of this show. I think where they went wrong was with the female lead - she is not suited for this role, meaning she plays the character very absent minded making you want the Prince to be with Park-Soo Ryeon. Also, I don't think they created the right type of atmosphere for this show, the ambience and special effects are not effective. Remember simple things scare us when the mood is right. Love the actors and definitely in love with Kim Sung-Oh, with the right atmosphere Sadam's creepiness would be off the chart and we would really see him as a sinister character.

M Oct 13 2014 1:17 pm I love Jung Il Woo, he's acting skills is so great it eats up the (what i called) "amateur" acting skills of the female lead. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater but the female lead is really poor in acting. Say in Ep 20, when they had this so called "back hug", moment, there's no chemistry at all. The female lead was not able to create a good reflection of her emotion in that scene... I was like, "oh my... this is such great moment/scene if only there's was a remarkable emotion from the female lead... :( she was not even manage to shed a tear to my dismay. Nothing in that part moved me (as a viewer).

I was surprised with Yuhno. I don't really know since I'm not really familiar (a fan) of Kpop idols, but he portrayed his role way better than the female lead. It seems like he's been acting he's whole life. I must commend him for a job well done :)

Overall, I'm just watching to see the ending of this drama. I really like Il Woo and will be looking forward to his up coming drama soon. Hope he gets better one next time...

Since the beginning, 2nd male lead has been getting more attention than the main lead. whenever searching about night watchman journal on Twitter, 75% is about Yunho. always more pictures and more comments about Yunho than Jung iL Woo. oh well, that's when the 2nd male lead is a huge K-pop icon with more star power and he's more popular than the main lead. Plus to create more buzz and hype, the idol actor has been getting a lot of positive reviews from critics who praised his acting skills in his first historical drama.

I think how she portrays her character separate of the times she's playing Jung Il Woo's love interest is just fine. Her outlandish, childlike, diamond in the rough self is totally okay. She plays her character well, but at the same time, her bright character has too much energy alongside the prince and although she intuitively seems to grasp his mood well, both of the actors are at fault for not trying to flow alongside each other more naturally. I think also the writing is at fault. It seems when the story is not progressing much, the romance is forced in and I think with characters who're maybe experiencing love for the first time, the subtle things like shared looks, smiles and awkward lighthearted moments are better than long talks (except for when they're plotting the next course of action). Kiss is fine but it would be cool if it happened really randomly, surprising the viewer. I think Go Sung Hee's character would do better without intense buildup and Il Woo would be dashingly cool in a spontaneous romantic moment. His character could be like, I stole a kiss coz I'm a prince, so what?~*wink- wink - cute smile* Also, more bromance for Yunho's character with Il Woo. They're very, very good together.

Talking about the female main lead, I have been wondering whether it’s her acting or her character (Do Ha) that is lacking. Something is missing from her performance even though she's improved a bit on the recent episodes. Go Sung Hee has been praised for her role in Miss Korea and I think that was the reason she was chosen for the lead role in this drama. I am struggling to feel the chemistry for the main leads here, it’s up and down (say I can feel the chemistry on this eps but then it’s no longer there on the next eps). Or maybe Il Woo had a strong chemistry with his co-star in his latest drama. I dont know...But the kissing scene is beautiful and hoping a good chemistry after that eps.

Here in the nightwatchman, I don't have a problem with the story, the story was great... but I don't understand why the writers and the directors choose Goo Sung Hee to play for the role of doha and be Jung Il woo's love interest. Goo Sung Hee's acting is still immature, it still had a mix of a teenager, which is not a good match for Jung Il Woo... If you tried to focus watching the nightwatchman you can see on Jung Il Woo's eyes that he is very uncomfortable to act with Goo Sung Hee..

If I'm the one who made this drama, I'm going to find an actress with a matured acting skills, one who can portray Doha's acting very well than Goo Sung Hee, and can develop a better Chemistry with Jung Il Woo. I think Shin Min Ah of Arang and the Magistrate and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho suits for Doha's character...

I was looking forward to this because I adore Jung Il Woo, especially in a historical... but they have paired him with some really inexperienced actors. Each week I watch hoping that something will change... the story will get better, the poor acting won't be too distracting but it just hasn't happened. Jung Il Woo, I still adore you and will look forward to all your future dramas but I'm sorry, I just can't watch this one anymore. It's just too dang disappointing.

Chris Sep 15 2014 6:05 pm Wow this series is flawed was really looking foreword to something like a Korean Joseon Era X files from the series description; along the lines of the "Secret Investigation Record" but with better cinematography, yet so far the series is actually really bad. No offense I love Jung Il Woo but the acting is corny over the top and the plot is jumbled and lacking. Its series like this that prevent the sci fi genre from obtaining a foot hold in Korean Pop Culture. If I was the writer I would have thrown in some vampires, werewolves, Gumino's, and made it a hip, eerie, series more atune to a Korean "True Blood", or "Vampire Diaries". Too bad could have been a great series, if the writers weren't so bad. If this series wants to survive change the writers and revise the scrip asap, would suggest changing the female lead but its too late for that.

Mandy Sep 09 2014 12:54 am @Ava the "drastic change" it's because the episode was aired at 11pm ( 2 episodes bcs of something special the day before, check the date just above). It was still #1 for 2 horus and 8.6% at 11pm-12 is very solid. :)

Also, before anyone gets worried in Korea sept 7 to 9 they are celebrating chuseok, meaning all shows will have ratings less than normal this week ( probably above episode 10 bcs of the time it was aired but less than it's usual 12 something % . :)

alice Aug 20 2014 1:10 pm Jung Il-Woo is a Charismatic actor. I think he esp. shines in historical drama's where he plays royalty. In ep 6. I was glad I gained some empathy for Jung Il-Woo's charachter Lee Rin. I like the pace. Perfect for me.. I don't need it to be always on edge.

Jung Il Woo is as gorgeous as ever. Definitely the main reason why i'm hooked to this drama. I like the suave and yes! he can pull off a jeoson costume and still be as good looking as ever. My main concern is the villain Kim Sung Oh, I'm just not convinced. =( I'm so used to his goofy antics that him as a psychic villain is just off.

1 What was wrong is that the primary star appears less fast so it looks less cool.

2 The relationship between the male and female lead star feels too short,

3 Though in my opinion, MOST audience wants to see the relationship between the main star of women and men..

pbvier Aug 12 2014 11:52 pm I think the child actor who played Rin is not bad.. especially in the eps 3 when he separated with his father.. his crying was really good, I can feel the pain and sobbed like crazy during that scene. Plus, it's his first drama,rite? He still has plenty to learn

The only problem (for me. lol) is Kim Sung Oh..I used to watch him in silly character and now he's the villain.. it will take times for me to adapt. eheheh! XD His eyes are so pretty *off topic*

I've watched 2 episodes so far, and it's quite interesting imo, although I can't see the actors' face so clearly in the night time set, but still, I can't wait to see more :D

But having to see Jang Il Woo again in another drama ( I am tired seeing all these flower boys basically) is deterring it.
