con2323 Jun 23 2021 12:39 am D-Day is a heavy disaster medical drama. I didn't expect JungSoMin can make a heavy drama like this. I became her avid fan because of her cuteness in Playful Kiss, Because this is my first life and other romcom dramas she had. But I just saw her in this disaster drama. She is really a versatile actress. This means that she can also do action drama or movie? The scenes seemed real and full of tragic moments. This drama was released in our country only last year to make the people aware about the big one that may happen anytime. I didn't realize that it's D-Day because the title in our local television program was the Big One that was dubbed so nicely in our national language.

My fav Apr 05 2021 8:08 pm Love this drama....Best medical/disaster drama on my list. It was very well made and all the characters were really well designed. They are so close too real human-being...very realistic.It's amazing that the 20-episode drama was set to show only what happened in days time span...Also I love how all the characters have their own moments to shine....even small supporting roles. Love the pace and dynamic of this drama...its really moving and how it didn't focus on lovey-dovey story...The chemistry between the 2 leads was so darn adorable..and they didn't show lots of scenes between the two...It was just the right amount that it didn't get cheesy but enough for you to crave for more..Jung So Min and Kim Young Kwang looked so darn cute together and their relationship is one of the cutest of all k-dramas I have ever watched. Both of them nailed their characters...The did really bring Jung Do Mi and Lee Hae Sung to life. It was amazing how Jung So Min nailed Busan accent with those long script and difficult medical terms.. Actually the whole cast team did very well...They all nailed their characters. I still have hard time with withdrawal after 5 years....Still rewatching. Although, the ending could have been better... They should have focused less on the hospital director and give more time to the lead couple. Their ending scene felt a little rush...Then it would be perfect ending. Also, the production was awesome. They made it look so real. I got to see their BTS and read somewhere that this is a low-budget production... So wow, they are truly capable.... Great casting combined with skilled production.

Kitchy Feb 04 2021 10:03 am Wow! Just saw the behind the scene and i am very amazed by the production. The set designers work really hard to make the set realistic, everything was made from scratch. All the actors and actress are fit in their roles, kudos to the director for producing such an excellent drama and for choosing the right people cause they nailed it! Hoping for season two!

I really love this medical drama so much,, slight love, dramatic scene bc of earthquakes, friendship, families, this drama gives me up and down feeling. And this drama indeed sooo romantic for me. I definitely luv it.

darna12 Nov 03 2020 6:19 am seriously!!!! jung so-mins character is just soooo annoying, rude and darn stupid!!!!! damn! if i were that male doctor id slap her hard everytime she kicks him or does nasty and rude things to him. I get that he is a man and its just awful to hit a woman or vice versa BUT she is just too much!!! i seriously would recall this drama and recast this i prefer Baek Jin-hee or Nam Ji-hyun would have pulled her character like a pro. Im so disappointed i want to stop watching because of her.

rosy Sep 24 2020 7:04 pm this is wonderful. i watched this without any expectations, but surprisingly they did very well!! the whole cast, plot, CGI, everything in this drama is well-done. im not into medical drama so much, but D-day makes me want to rewatch it again and again (i watched it 3rd times).

Amanda Sep 15 2020 8:12 pm Okay so if your looking for a drama that has a medical, heroic and slight romance to it, you just hit the jackpot. This show is amazing the story behind it is one of outmost shock, saddness, anger omg all your emotions will show will watching this. The storyline is never expected, which such twists and turn of events. Sometimes you're going to want to scream and cry and get so mad act the actors and actress, that is how good there performance was. You are going to feel there pain, sorrow, joy, hope, etc. I really didnt know what i was in for, I just clicked this drama because Kim Young-Kwang acted in it and may i just say it had me on the edge of my toes. I havent been able to binge watch like most people but i finished it in a week. Thats really slow for me, compared to how I normally watched dramas, but trust me if i didnt have to work i might have finished in a day or 2. So to all those deciding to or not to watch it trust me you will not regret it. I will give this drama a 5 star rating.

The story would have been so much better without her. She made real doctors look totally stupid. Real doctors would never ever act like her. I’ve watched nearly every Korean show and it’s the first time an actor has reallly annoyed me. Please next time get the actress to act more mature and more realistic and caring

Skukian Jul 10 2019 6:10 am i finish the whole drama in two days and that is pretty fast for me! it was interesting from the first till the last episode... the earthquake scenes were soo terrifying and i couldn't help but imagine myself in that situation... it showed almost all aspects of the disaster and the people in that situation... i hated that director so much that i wanted to stab him through my laptop screen... i wish we got to see more of lee hae seung and jung deol mi's progression of their relationship... but i guess it was more realistic this way... it would be weird if they were romancing in the middle of a disaster... the cast was reallly good... and i really like the way South Korean's make medical based dramas.. they look soo real.. being an indian, we get crappy serials and medical series here are the worst.... overall i'd like to say that it was one heck of a rollercoaster ride... definitely worth a watch..8/10

Impressed Critic Feb 22 2019 6:21 am First off, the base plot of this drama was to show what happens when a country/city is affected by a unexpected natural disaster and how people strive through to save themselves and/or others. Key word here: unexpected. The lack of guidelines, the abandoned emergency pre-protocols/budgets. The chaos and lack of definitive order. If you’re seeing that in the drama then it’s not a weakness of the writer and director. It was shown deliberately to highlight all the ways in which we can lack when we haven’t taken any preventative measures or made plans/kept aside resources & fund for emergencies. The show also highlights the growing over-dependance on modern technology and how without it societies become paralysed.

This by far is the only medical drama I have truly enjoyed in my life that rather than showcasing flawless genius doctors and forced propagandas of moral ethics.. rather it simply brings things down to the core. Save people however you can when you still can. While there are some plot driven devices used in the drama and mad situations, it has the best characterisation and character depth of all its characters, whether major or minor. Almost everyone behaves quite naturally and are not unnecessarily loud in their expression of their emotions or opinions. Most of the good characters kept a cool rational head and aren’t swept away by their emotions- something very vital in a disaster and for someone in medical/etc professions. There’s also a lot of space for character growth. Everyone learns something valuable from the unfortunate experience and the society as a whole does too.

Lastly, do remember that the real time passed in the drama is quite short. Mere days. But in the wake of a disaster and the feeling of having seen the end or world makes it seem like eons have passed while waiting for the dust to settle from the earthquake (as is often the case in tragic periods). So all the character growth and their changing relationships is commendable and natural enough. Expecting more would be asking for a miracle as people and relationships need time to develop.

Although I need subtitles, the emotions portrayed by the actors especially Kim Young Kwang, make it easy to follow the storyline. This show can rival the best hospital dramas produced by Hollywood and the entire family can watch it. I love to talk trash to Mr. Gun, the hospital director, when he's on screen. He is NOT a nice man. Great job of acting by Mr. Kyoung-Young. I'm off to watch Dr. Lee save the day!!!!!

The plot never gets boring, but also reserves the time to develop and investigate the characters and their motivations. The supporting characters were great as well. Damn, and Yoon Joo-hee is as beautiful as ever.

I guess the CGI effects still need a few more years in Korea to get to a point where I can't just replicate them in Blender, but seeing as they don't have the massive rendering farms like we have here it's fine.

Now, the only bad part is ha seok-jin's (Han Woo-jin) character. Every time something happens, all he does is run into the OR and bitch about the surgery to Lee Hae-sung. Every. Goddamn. Time. He runs in, bitches, wastes time, and then leaves, serving no other purpose other than to make everyone else's life in the OR more difficult. As if a 6.5 magnitude earthquake wasn't enough.

I'd give it a 9.8 (- 0.2 because of Woo-jin. It's really that bad.)

The cast are terrific . I love the korean drama and movies because each story are made not just an art but cinematic and with a heart.

I like the concept of this Drama because its something different yet they pulled this off and created a phenomenal one!

I get excited to watch each episode. Thrilling, moving, you get different emotions just watching it. I didnt mind bawled my eyes out every night watching it and come to work the next morning with puffy eyes just because I got carried away and cried too much from most of the scenes. Seriously! Thats how great actors and actresses they are!!! Maybe thats why I like it so much! Because the drama itself allowed me to be part of it somehow. Its absolutely moving!

There are so much to see in this drama. Its worth watching.

And I have very high respect for the supporting actors Ha Seok-Jin, Lee Kyoung-Young, Cha In-Pyo, Kim Sang-Ho and Kim Hye-Eun. The directorial job was good, the plot was interesting. The only thing that did not fit my taste was the way the story develops, there's too much redundancy and disconnected issues that made the story dull.

pineapples Mar 07 2016 11:49 am i love this drama; it made me cry and laugh and fear for the characters all at the same time. i don't know why it isn't more well known; the relationship between jung so min and lee haesung is also cute. the ending seemed abrupt but only for the couple- but to be completely honest it's a disaster drama, not romance. if you want a drama with a heavily HEAVILY romance-based storyline look elsewhere. this is a story full of twists and turns and reveals and character depth it's altogether amazing.

NiAdrianne Jan 06 2016 8:58 am I wonder why this drama isn't really known. I mean –I really do highly recommend it. It has very realistic plot twists, and they did great with the casting. I think everyone did a great job portraying their own roles. I might have been a little bit disappointed with the ending, because I wanted more, and the fact that I didn't want the series to end yet. Nevertheless, I loved it. Definitely one of my personal favorites.

I really recommend this drama, for it teaches a lot of lessons and discloses the real situation that is happening, though the ending was good, I find it lacking at the ending especially for Jung Ddol Mi and Lee Hae Sung to have no so much time together, but overall this drama is fantastic, I wish that this will have a SEASON 2..

Watching this made me want to pursue my dream of being a doctor. :3 The actors and actresses were all great in portraying their characters. :D I loved the plot twists and the cute couples, Hae Sung and Dol Mi, and So Yool and Dae Gil. XD <3 The ending was also good. :D I am satisfied with it even if little time was given to Hae Sung and Dol Mi since the story does not really revolve around their feelings for each other. In fact, I still find the ending super sweet. <3 <3 <3 :D

Maybe some of the first-aid procedures are accurate but for heavens sake, the scene when the D-Day earthquake strikes, WHY ON EARTH would you go and bring your son inside the car and worst DRIVE away when you know that everything is shaking????!!! The disaster assembly people of all people should be the one practicing the do's and don'ts do when there's an earthquake, but NO they just panic and run around. I like this drama because of JSM and the actors are doing good with their characters, but even the actors good the director and the writers are just plain stupid. can't watch this anymore. I'm being pulled to a very low point that it makes me angry with stupid people. So frustrating.

naisy Nov 20 2015 7:54 pm @sofiagarcia, in my opinion, the leads did well (i am already at Ep 19). I am wondering why u said the support Actors outshined the Leads. They did great esp Kim Young Kwang and Ddol Mi. Most of the difficult scenes, he did it with flying colors, what are you looking? Well, if you are not a Fan of him it will be hard for you to appreciate. Anyway i respect your opinion but i have my own too. And i don't agree with you. Good luck to this drama!

A drama that has nothing to hide,the bad side of the politicians,the doctors, the coverment and the real life. A big applause to the cast that truly make us be angry, laugh, cry,wondering and be happy. Also i have to say that the music that surround the drama is amazing too!! The last 2 episode on the go!!! Fighting!!!

sophiagarcia Nov 19 2015 12:08 am A SPOiLIER and an opinion : the antagonists outperform the protagonists. i wanted to squeeze and hang up to dry the director, the politician, dr. han and the fat intern because of their characters and their responses to the calamities surrounding them. the director was so effective as a mean character making me feel ughhh being reminded of people i have met who are so like him.

as the drama progressed, the leads' performances lost effectivity and their characterization went gone down to oblivion and lost their depth leaving the impression that their ideals, zeal and struggles have dissipated a few episodes back and they have still a few more to go.

it would have been a good plot : a mega-disaster had hit the busiest city in korea. it should have ran much longer. the impact of the disaster had a lot of stories that  can be told, many life-saving incidents and damage controls that could keep us on the edge of our seats but sadly, the scope was limited only to saving the characters' relatives.

a love story it was not, because the flame has begun to dim between the two. when ddol mi left for busan she seemed to have experienced "out of sight out of mind" syndrome because when she returned, the spark is no longer there.

as earlier stated, it has a good plot and has a lot of promises but somehow it misses the punch and gets lost along the way.

i will still watch it until the last episode though. it is not too late to prove i might be wrong.

Wishing the best for the medical team (as if they're not going to have a good ending tho lol) and dr. Lee haesung's family!

It was suffocating watching that selfish director who only thought about the future of the hospital aigooo

Btw, I love the intense feeling from this drama as it shows what happened to the hospital staff, the firemen and netizens in 72 hours from the earthquake.

rosemary Nov 02 2015 5:21 am Well, I love Hae Sung the main male character (I watched 5 episodes so far). He's not-so-perfect kind of the usual main character. He's great with what he's doing (being a doctor I mean), and I like how Hae Sung is the type of guy that will apologise if he thinks he's wrong even though he's a stubborn guy (for good reason though) And I think this drama is fast and quite intense (the pace i mean). But I'm hooked to this drama because it's not like the usual Korean drama. It's pretty good. I just don't like how Hae Sung and Ddolmi met. I think they should know each other for a while before getting into those messy stuff. Well I mean, at least they bumped into each other for few times, it would be nice. It's the only thing that I'm complaining. (I know it's about the earthquake, but still...)

PS: The flashback effect thing is like on the game "Life is Strange", if you know what I mean.

Especially when thedoctor must take a decision whether to save one soul or to save many people instead.... I think this drama is good for general people but not for the medical staff.

Lead actors' and actress' acting: 10/10 (especially for Young Kwang's acting, personally - he's like switching personalities from one movie/tv series to another)

Supporting's acting: 9/10 (1 for improvement for the beginning actors' acting)

Plot: 8/10 (-2 for dents the clinical eye could roll their eyes on)

Pace: 7/10 (fairly good. -3 for making flashbacks drag sometimes.)

This show is recommendable people! The cast and the story line are both great!

thumbs up to the director and the writer!!!!
