A man risks fate for a woman he loves.

Soo-Ho (Kim Rae-Won) is a successful businessman who lives abroad. Those that oppose Soo-Ho always seem to suffer misfortune. He decides to go to South Korea find Hae-Ra (Shin Se-Kyung), but first he goes to Slovenia.

Meanwhile in Seoul, Hae-Ra works at a travel agency, but she has never had a chance to travel abroad. She had a happy childhood until her parents died. Her life has been miserable ever since. She thinks back to a purple cashmere coat that her parents ordered for her as a Christmas present, but she could not pick up because of their demise. She decides to go to Sharon's Boutique and look for that coat in hopes of changing her fortune. After meeting Sharon (Seo Ji-Hye) at the boutique, she opens her eyes and finds her purple cashmere coat. Afterwards, people who give her a hard time suffer misfortune. She goes to Slovenia and meets Soo-Ho. Their fate has been intertwined since their past lives.

I'm so into this kind of genre, still watching it and so far it's actually good. Got the 2015-2020 vibes like Goblin and Bride of Habaek.

Gagetti Dario Aug 29 2024 11:03 pm A K-Drama very different from many others. Starting with the romantic part of the 2 main characters. Their behavior was more similar to us Europeans than to typical Koreans. The story itself was not exciting, especially the mystical part which intensified in the last few episodes was not very captivating. On the other hand, the ending was extremely touching and sad, despite its regularity and simplicity. We cried a lot. Again, a different TV-Series that set a fine example of how people should behave with his partner.

deana Sep 21 2023 12:50 pm my favorite romance drama! this really brings back memories because i haven't watched romance drama since a few years ago. loving raewon's natural acting as moon sooho because i felt it's his real life character.

every character has their own funny characteristics and i can't even hate the villains because i'm loving all characters!

really love the chemistry of raewon and sekyung. i also love watching raewon and jihye because i have watched their drama before this, 'punch'.

the cinematography, the cast, ost... everything about this drama is beautiful. i'm glad i found this drama because it's so hard trying to find a hidden gem like this.

it's a typical romance drama, but not all romance drama are perfect as this gem. i mean... because this is a 2017-2018 kdrama, they still has that 'old, nostalgia' kdrama vibes.

this drama will be my comfort drama! barely surviving from TFR withdrawal, so i've been binge watching raewon's past movie and drama.

Noe Nov 11 2021 9:31 am Idk why this kdrama is soooooo underrated!!!! I like Shin Se Kyung's acting here and Seo Ji Hye. I can't stop crying in final episode, true love is reaaaal. I pity and feel bad for Sharon, she just wanted love and affection from a person she thought is hers. She is also a victim of fate and manipulation. I hope she could find someone who truly loves her and would conquer the world for her.

More female leads to come SSK and SJH juseyooo.

Rima Aug 18 2021 2:19 pm I am very disappointed that this series is so Underrated, should get a rating of at least 95%!!! This is a Masterpiece in every way. I loved IT so much. True it is fiction, true the ending is bittersweet but what an amazing story this is. The storyline is superb, the OST very nice and the cast is just excellent. All of them just great acting ; Seo Ji Hye, Jang Mi Hee even Kim Seol Jin all powerful acting. The story is so addictive, it takes you in no time through the 20 episodes. I definitely will watch this drama again and again, i also recommended it already to my friends in Belgium. The 2 leads: my sexy, hot, gorgeous and favourite actor Kim Rae Won and the beautiful, sweet Shin Se Kyung, Wow, man, what a chemistry, what a natural and powerful acting. Just Top! Both really high talented and very skilled, A++++ actors. I rate this series 11/10 and is a definitely must see!

I like the actress SSK but why does she rarely have a happily ever after ending? High Kick 2, Fashion King, 6 flying dragons.... She usually is put in a sad ending.

Frances Apr 03 2021 3:34 am What has happened to Kim Rae Won. In doctors his face was soft and romantic now he looks hard and shows little emotion. Has he lost too much weight? There is no chemistry from him and he looks more suited to playing a villain. Also in Doctors and other kdramas the soundtrack is usually so catchy and adds to the atmosphere but this is also lacking. After Doctors what a disappointment.

Mr. Moon Soo Ho looks more like he could be a older brother to Hae Ra, giving her advice, she having a crush on him. Not for him to date her, or him marrying her. The young man who was her boyfriend, he was a fake lawyer or something like that.

But Ms. Hae Ra fought her back, when Sharon cut her with scissors. If that was me, I would not sit back let someone do that to me. She did not know who Sharon is, Ms. Sharon to be a friendly person. Sharon is evil lady young, and during time when there were Kings and Queens in Korea.

Florentina Jan 04 2021 10:55 am I’m suprised this didn’t have a lot of hype the year it was aired cause I absolutely enjoyed watching it. I actually hate that it took me so long to watch it. While I really liked it, the ending was just not for me. It was very bittersweet. It left me thinking the whole point of the series was just useless. And some of the characters decision just really annoyed me.

Considering it’s been 2 years since the last episode I doubt there would ever be a sequel, but honestly I just wish it didn’t end the way it did. But overall it was an enjoyable watch.

A fairly complicated storyline among characters which spans Joseon period to modern day. Greed vs. preservation and fate. What would you do if your partner cannot die and never ages? I really enjoyed this drama. Shin Se Kyung is beautiful, a great actress. Anything she does is a master piece. Beautiful ending. Give this drama 10 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

FMN Jun 07 2020 2:45 pm It is beautiful story. Love the idea of this story. Combination of fantasy & romance. Best of both world. Chemistry among the casts are good. The fussy feeling when Hae-Ra with Soo-Ho.

But, how the storyline was told is the only thing that suck in my mind. How I wish Baek-Hee character be more firm in her decisions & actions. How I wish Sharon character isn't childish & act her age. I understand Sharon character. The pain that she experienced, but should Sharon learnt from her past experience & focus on how to lift the curse instead of create mess around with Hae-Ra & Soo-Ho. Also how I wish Hae-ra character doesn't just go with the flow, embrace herself with the she going to be old & try to create a best memories with her husband.

TBH, sometimes I wonder what Ji-Hoon roles in the drama. He didn't bring much impact to drama. He just act as informant for Park Gon. I mean Park Gon is rich, might as well he hired a P.I to do the job. Supporting actor also suppose bring impact for the drama.

The writer shouldn't rush the end of this drama. She should insert the happy memories of Hae-Ra with her husband & sons (as the shaman predicted). Also, insert the glimpse of reincarnated Hae-Ra meet Soo-Ho & let our brain do the thinking. Hahaha... My imagine gone wild.

Except for the ending the story line was intriguing and kept a good balance between the use of the light and dark aspects of the storyline. After seeing the natural ease and joy that the couple developed with each other the fear based mindset of their relationship in the last episode doesn't make sense.

The fact that the events of the present life time would probably not have happened had Hae Ra had not cursed Sharon in the past life is never properly addressed.

I would have liked to have seen more background of Sharon's upbringing that created her the way she was. Also if some acknowledgement, of the pain that Sharon must have gone through in the past life, had been done she might have not been quite as crazy. On the other hand her obsession being so blinding it most likely would not have made a difference.

Both lead actresses were phenomenal. That anyone would think that Shin Se-Kyung facial expressions are flat doesn't make sense to me at all. The variance in her acting ability is a stunning.

christina Aug 16 2019 7:29 am Why would the subject of a prayer for safety ended up the same as those who were cursed due to their sin? Especially when they already had their fair shares of troubles. I can't seem to read the writer's mind. The drama was however beautifully done...the locations, the wardrobe of everybody and the chemistry of every casts especially the lovey dovey exchanges of the two main casts....so so natural. Have watched a number of dramas by Shin Se-Kyung but she seems to rub off much better with Kim Rae-Won. I was charmed by Kim Rae-Won's chrisma.

I rarely stop watching a drama after episode 5; however I got to episode 6 and the director has decided to make Sharon have the ability to switch to another persons body ( this was a big NO NO ) and I quit after episode 6. as a person stated earlier; Sharon is being punished for her sins so why give her such an ability ( makes zero sense and the only reasoning is to stretch out this drama).

Sundae Angel Nov 17 2018 6:50 am I liked the chemistry between the 2 main characters. It is a very romantic show and I was kinda hoping of a better happier ending. I was crying my eyes out towards the end.. it was really sad and I couldn't imagine how crushed Soo Ho's heart must have been. I blamed Sharon for everything, really, she was just pure evil. Her loneliness was her own doing and her nature was just repulsive despite her pretty appearance. I'm sorry but I think she deserved a worse ending.

Requires more engagement by the viewer. Something different than other kdramas. Refreshing in that you have to surmise more than you can see.

To be I enjoy dramas in this genre like fantasy. It kinda reminds me of goblin. Also I watched this drama because seo jihye and Kim raew on from punch were both inside. True Apr 28 2018 2:24 am This drama start off good but it deeps after ep6 it is draggy drama which could have ended at ep 16 and make it tighter. shin se kyung acting is pathetic same face from the start till the end even when she is happy she looks like want to cry. Sharon character was quite engaging but the director just make Sharon evil until the end , wish they could make Sharon wiser after living hundreds of years the ending was more and more pathetic. The good part is the music and ost are great the cast acting except shin se kyung were good the plot was different but could have been better

The long drag on too long 20 eps. From the ending, it sounds a series 2, if the ratings are good, as she said they will meet in another life, make the wish she make. Sharon is bad, but Hae-Ra is like a witch making so many wishes for self greed. She is never happy, but cares for sooho, so the story is really messed. Woman cares so much for the husband, would not think of herself so much and the looks. The ending were sad, but all he remembers were when she was young & pretty making gestures. However, love is about pretty in long term, as no one can be pretty forever. In this century they portrait, she is very old fashion and cannot accept she will get old, than him. Lots of female celebrities partner with young guys. I wish the story could end, he loves her whether she is old or not. She is happy she is finally away from her. She would enjoy at least 30 years more by having plastic or make up if ageing really bother hers. Overall, ok to watch, but poor director, poor story. The idea of past live revenge is cool, but badly done this time

peterh Feb 18 2018 8:22 am terrible endind it felt that all their struggles were for nothing. i would not be surprise if a chinese adaption was made. they love useless tragic love stories. i prefer a more western ending like the film stardust. despite the wife being immortal(star) they had lots of children and happy life. and the deathbed of the husband he was surrounded by his love ones. this kdrama ending instead left a bad taste in my mouth.

Moon Feb 18 2018 4:50 am Spolier alert! I enjoyed this drama to the very end. I'm a drama skipper and this was the first one I hardly skipped any parts. As for the ending. I assume that he probably will never die which in itself is a very sad life to live...But hey, we can only blame that on Hae Ra because it was HER wish upon that ring for him to NEVER DIE and it got activated when he got stabbed. Overall, what a great drama. An award well deserved!

They should have left it with the two women having a curse only and had the ring just have a temporary power like saving his life but not making that permanent. They strayed too far from them having a destiny together. Like the whole point was that they could finally be happy together and the writers ruined that. They didn't even show happy moments as she got older; they made it look like they lived a miserable life as she got older and he didn't. They ended up suffering more than the women. And it bothers me they never brought up having 3 sons again. Like it was predicted in their past life that she'd bear 3 sons but that never happened. Yet every other prediction did end up happening in some form. They should have focused on that for the last 4 episodes instead. An alternate ending episode should DEFINITELY be made. At least show him meeting her again and the prayer being lifted as Baek Hee said it might.

I totally loved the ending, what's more satisfying than seeing hae ra die and soo ho left all alone?? must be a psycho but well I really disliked them I only continued to watch because of Sharon, she was the true victim in all this. my girl deserved to be loved and to be happy even though she did some bad things. as always, disappointed with SSK's acting, it's amazing to be this bad. so awkward when she laughed, it wasn't natural at all.

However, lets summarise the whole story. This is the clear fact. Sharon's fate originally belongs to boonyi. Because of the switching of babies by baekhee, sharon (the beggar's daughter) able to enjoy a noble status, raised and married into wealthy family and became lady of the house which belongs to boonyi initially. The fate including sooho (love).there were meant to be as god intended.thus even he married to sharon in past life, he could not bring himself to love her.when sooho arrested, sharon forced boonyi to wear her clothes make her lady to accept the punishment so that boonyi could die.no matter sharon tried to break them they were still together. Even after sharon knew the fact of the switching she still could not accept sooho not belong to her. THAT WHAT MAKES DIFFERENCE. It wasn't love but an OBSESSION.sharon said why nobody was on her side? This because she stole everything belongs to boonyi (family, love,status even her ring) and she still didn't think she's wrong.sharon would go as far by trying to kill sooho more than twice to make him reborn as her man.then tell me is that love if you are willing to kill the man you love?

Not the greatest way they could have ended the story for the mains and especially for Baek Hee and Sharon. Best part about the last episode was watching Seung Goo dance. For me his dance was beautiful and captured more in his short part than when Soo Ho spoke at the end. Interpretative dance ... stunning Kim Seol-Jin, well done.

However, I really regret watching this show. And then sharon did her huge sin when she slandered her husband and the rest you know it that in the end she killed them both. And what? Sharon did just what a woman had to do? Come on ladies haha.

In order for her wish to come true, the ring must be near to him or make contact to his skin. Not sure though if he is immortal. It seems Hae Ra needs to remember the past to remove the spell of the ring and remove the curse of Sharon.

Not a fan but i think Shin Se Kyung improved on her acting on this drama compared to her role in the Bride of the Water God. I have to agree with some people here that some scenes are insignificant to the story but overall it is still a good drama. I enjoyed watching Kim Rae Won as the romantic and charismatic guy. It really fits him well and I loved watching Seo Ji-Hye and Jang Mi-Hee. Very impressive.

I don't think it's because of Sharon's good acting but the plot is quite thin. I thought the scene between SSK and KRW when she first knew he is Soo Ho was quite good. Writer should have continued in this mode. Finally by ep. 13 there is an obstacle to their romance , but if it is a weak obligatory obstacle , then let the whole show end faster. I look forward to SSK and KRW's next better production together.

In episode 12, he professes his love more to Hae Ra;- flirting to her. Red bean means "I love you", Cream bread means "kiss me" and Baguette means "come to emergency stairs". He then said "Hae Ra, 100 red bean breads for you", she then shyly answered "200 for you". The beautiful Slovenia scenes....

Nevertheless I really love the romance of the main leads. The scene where KSW asked SSK to lean and depend on him was so touching. SSK could not control herself anymore & embraced him briefly and felt shy later. KSW was caught by surprise from her action. Both their acting are so natural. Their kisses sizzles...not of modern days abandon & lust; but old fashion pure love.

The other scene where SSK cries running to KSW and his comforting, teasing and humoring her are just so classic and lovely for all die hard romance lover who simply love the old fashion fairy tale love story of the golden days of Hollywood.

Their love is so pure and simply love them together!

Personally, i think the script, pacing and yes sometimes the acting of both lead characters is a bit bad. I am more excited to watch the next episode for "I'm not a robot".

The story is interesting. But i hope at least the script and pacing improve for this show. I don't know if the lead actors could improve their acting though. I hope they can. Not familiar with any of their past dramas, like the lead actress. I've only read a few reviews of her past drama like Bride of the Water God. Shin Se-Kyung does not play 3 characters, she plays 2 in here. Seo Ji-Hye plays Sharon. I admit Shin Se-Kyung is always playing a sad, crying, unsure character but she is very good at it. Would love to see them give her a different role, be the bad one for once ... like Seo Ji-Hye, she's doing an excellent job, very impressive acting indeed for her role of Sharon. They need to give Shin Se-Kyung more of a range too instead of hemming her into the same type of character all the time.

Unlike those two, the male and female leads in Black Knight are both human while the other two ladies are supernatural beings. I hope people stop comparing fantasy dramas to goblin.

Saw him first in Doctors and he made me drop it. This drama is so-so and the main leads aren't doing it any favors. Un modeste admirateur Dec 14 2017 8:24 am I am currently at ep. 2 of "Black Knight", and it contains some of the most beautiful cinematography I've seen in a drama. Everything from the flawless camera work, to the exquisite sceneries and colours, without forgetting the charisma of the two main leads (Kim Rae-Won and Shin Se-Kyung), contributes to create an impression of beauty. Some of the shots remind of Belgian paintings or French photographies rather than film. I still believe "My Golden Life" is the best drama currently airing, because of the extent of its characters, but "Black Knight" is a strong second contestant in a very different genre. In any case, a country like South Korea that can line up "My Golden Life", "Black Knight", etc. within the same season is truly gifted and unique. Most world countries achieve such quality TV productions only once in a decade, if not once in a century.

SSK SUPPORTER Dec 11 2017 11:23 am SSK's acting has gotten better. Don't bash her because of BOTWG since her role there actually limits her potential. The reason why BOTWG got low views/rates was because of the plot not following the manhwa and that there was no suspense. If you watch her previous dramas (Six Flying Dragons for example), she can show you that SHE CAN ACT. Her role was pretty diverse (fun fact: Her role there was Boon-Yi, and in Black Knight she also plays a character called Boon-Yi) She can show a mature/strong side while showing a soft side. Want aegyo? Watch Sensory Couple/The Girl Who Sees Smell. She did pretty well. Don't blame the actress for everything (oh, like being paired up with Nam Joo Hyuk) , blame the director/PDs/script writer for BOTWG.

Only two episodes in, I want more and cannot wait for episode 3. I love the OST!!! Their chemistry started well, KRW might be added to my list of K-Actors to follow. It was interesting and damn, the switch between the past and now got me shookt. Good karma to come to everyone who supports the drama. Fighting!

I found it captivating and although not super fast pace, I'm looking forward to the next episode. I still can't decide on the female lead, I've watched so many of her dramas but she's still 'growing 'on me.

Black Dec 11 2017 6:11 am The name black knight reminds me of another fantasy drama black which to me is the best fantasy drama everyone needs to watch. But due to similarity in names, I gave this black knight a shot and I must confess,I'm disappointed in this drama. A lot of dramas capture my interest right from episode 1 but even after episode 2 I'm still confused with the plot and not sure if I should continue with the slow paced plot. Again one minute Shin Se Kyung's acting becomes so good and another minute it becomes boring again reminding me of what I went through in bride of water god. Though it's too early to judge but a 16 episode drama that didn't deliver even after episode 2 isn't a good drama.

And Seo Ji Hye is gorgeous. I have never doubted her acting skills. Can I withhold commenting on Kim Rae Won? I think you can put a skirt on a lamppost and he can make it react to him. He's that good. I have to commend the writing too. Surprisingly, the dialogue between Sohoo and Haera is not cheesy at all.

She's a growing actress and i definitly can tell that her acting has gotten better. Critics are fine if you HAVE watched the episode. Please be a smart netizen. At the time Sharon mentioned about wanting to become Shin se kyung, I think in the future she will steal SSK's body without asking. That's so promising. And the second detail that at the time SSK's parents died, no information about Kim Rae Won. And we saw that Jang Mi Hee came to him when he was crying. I'm sure her family was punished because they made him wounded. So he said that' Because of me that her family in distress'. Yeah, this drama' so interesting

noelle Dec 08 2017 9:13 pm I beg to differ. Shin Se Kyung does have chemistry with Kim Rae Won. It's still too early too judge since the plot just started. I didn't find BOTWG convincing since it did not follow the manhwa (i read it all) plus NamLee fans ruined it for me when they started bashing Se Kyung (like seriously? Ya'll bitter? It ain't her fault?) The drama is interesting, the cast is convincing, the OST is a masterpiece, the locations are aesthetic and so far, I'm enjoying it. Se Kyung is improving and I can see that. She shows more emotion, maybe because she doesn't have the burden of being the eldest among the lead cast (In botwg, she is older than Krystal and Nam Joo Hyuk) or the fear of being around water. I think it's also because of what Kim Rae Won said to her that chemistry is important and that she learns from her castmates. All well, let's respect the cast. No need to bash or say negative stuff. I'll continue to enjoy along with other while ya'll can stay bitter.

If the actor/actress keeps acting the same, the viewers will be annoyed at some point no matter how great their acting skills are. Another example is Gong Hyo Jin. I don’t hate her whatsoever as a person, just think that she’s not the best actor. I hope she improves in this drama because KIM RAE WON IS MY LIFE. Her acting is so dull.....!! she doesn't goes well with rae won oppa..... there will be awkward moment because of her bad acting. Just like she did in bride of the water god and the girls who see smells. hope that she manage to do well with rae won oppa charisma in this drama. rae won oppa fighting.....!!

Despite of her disappointing performance in Bride of Habaek, hoping she can improve her acting on this series. I’m a bit excited to watch this because of Kim Rae Won as he’s a goodlooking and an exemplary actor. Hope the story itself will be exciting as episodes gone by

She could win the lottery or be sentenced to death and the girl's face would remind the same... In the other hand, Kim Rae Won is a tremendous actor, arguably one of the best of his generation in the many roles I've seen him performing. He has nailed tough ones. Now, pairing them together...hmmm... I hope she lives up to the expectations and prove what she's made of, for she won't disappoint her followers.

I think Se Kyung has disappointed me thoroughly from Bride of Habaek despite that I like her in The Girl Who Sees Smells. She can do better. I'm kinda demotivated to watch this drama. tafadzwa Oct 18 2017 5:45 am okay i liked Nam Joo Hyuk he can act,....Shin Se-Kyung sucked in bride of the water god, she had the same face whether sad or happy, at least her make out scenes weren't as bad as her previous dramas, the only praise worthy acting was towards the end of bride of the water god when she finds the fate of her father. I actually liked Krystal more she can act. Shin Se- Kyung's better performance was in 6 flying dragons. I want her to show just a bit more emotion on her face and she will be fine .....she is a good actress but she appears one dimensional i don't know if its her choice of roles she picks which dont suit her or generally poorly portraying the characters.

It is confirmed plus script reading this Sunday on 8/10/2017. KRW drama comeback after big success of Doctors with 9 years age gap again but i will say this time his leading lady was a stone. I can't stand watch her drama to be honest.. When i watch her drama, i will ask 'what's wrong with her?' .. Arghhhh KRW, you should get better pair than her.. so many other young actress. For sure they will get praise for intimate scene like kissing, hugging or could it be bed scene as well in this drama? this writer drama in romance have a bed scene.
