Han Tae-Hee (Joo Sang-Wook) is the heir of a large company. He is suffering from a broken heart syndrome due to a psychological shock. To get the woman he loves back, he completely changes an unattractive and overweight Sa Geum-Ran to beautiful Sara (Han Ye-Seul). In the process, Han Tae-Hee falls in love with Sara.

Xii Sep 21 2022 1:52 pm Love this series it's my 2nd time watching it:) When I'm in need of comforting things, I watch all my old favourite movies and series over and over again. Great stories make you feel happier & a little more positive about overcoming difficult times and that good does ultimately win over evil.

PS: if anyone else was being driven crazy wondering what that catchy melody in the soundtrack reminds them of, like I was, I finally found it after listening to many songs. It was Fergie - Clumsy song lol :)

But I am curious about the story of the Birth of Beauty, when I saw some of the TikTok videos relating about the real life of today's generation. My curiosity brings me a story of a woman who's genuinely in love, and willingly fighting for her marriage. In contradiction, knowing that he's husband has a mistress and wanted her to suffer from the distress caused so much by her husband. In a sudden, after surpassing the tragedy of death. He met this someone who changed her a lot from appearance and brings out the best in her. In the process of revenge, they fall in love and found the real love instead. They together fought everyone whom tormented and tear them apart..In conclusion, they successfully made up their plans of getting married and have their happily ever after. I learnt a lot from the story, one is you have to courageously fight for what is right, and the best weapon you can use is your brilliant mind and heart that is full of love. I wish you could read my feedback. And also wishing for another KDrama Series starring (Joo Sang-Wook) Han Tae Hae/ and (Han Ye-Seul) Sara together. I'll be waiting. . . Hoping there's another story of you! ??‍♀️?? I Love This Story So Much! More Power and God Bless!

This is the worst kdrama i have watched, from the storyline to the plot. I am giving this with 2 stars only.

glen Feb 12 2022 12:13 pm The major stumbling block in this series is too hard to overcome. Namely (with no disrespect to the actress) there is no way that Lee Gang-Joon would ever have been attracted to Sa-Geum Ran. We never saw how she looked before she gained weight - but even so - she simply wasn't in his league. Added to that the fact that she never tried to lose weight seven years into her marriage - and she knew he was having an affair - didn't say much for her determination to "protect her marriage" How did she think she was going to accomplish that whilst threatening to expose him to the media? All this in the first four episodes. I couldn't suspend my disbelief as required. Series in this vein always overstate the shortcomings of the heroine - "She was pretty" is another case in point. and "My ID is Gangnam Beauty" the transformations were just too drastic to believe.

I admit it starts off slow but once you get thru the first episodes, it becomes very intriguing and addictive. A great plot, a story with a lot of sickening, nerve wrecking twists, conspiracies and plots. Great to watch and takes you in no time thru the 21 episodes. A beautiful lovestory with great chemistry between the lead couple although it missed some hugging and kissing. Superb acting of all the characters but the leads really a great performance. I love the actor Joo Sang Wook and the gorgeous actress Han Ye Seul, both an outstanding acting, both so pretty. To me: A Must See!

Finally! Thanks to nerflix app! Im already at episode 16. So sad its near to end...

Their chemistry is superb! Joo Sang Wook is the first oppa that i have known! Oppa of my generation i guess....

Han Ye Seul, Joo Sang Wook & Kwon Hwa Woon always makes me smile when they are in one episode. I think they really carry this series so good!

Ciepao Jan 15 2021 12:56 pm I thought I'm the only one who was lost and confused about this drama but when I saw other people's review and comments I'm not the only one. This drama has 21 episode but many things and events already happened in the first few episodes. That shit makes me confused as hell. Like in the first 3 episodes (¿) she had amnesia, she already had a plastic surgery, she died and she already wants her husband back. And the rest of the episodes are more on flashback when she was fat and revenge. Like whattttt???? And in the first episode they already said that Sara and geum-ran(the old her) are one. I just can't tell and elaborate how complicated the first few episodes are. I literally lost the motivation to watch this (but I still finished it) after episode 1.

Some actors are cute and pleasing to watch but still cringey most of the times, and the OST's are good too.

I"ll give this drama a 5/10. Will I recommend u to watch this? No. But if you want to, then go give it a try, I guess.

You all need to watch this, I like Jung woo's k drama, I love how he deliverers the story and so does the others. (My mother likes it too) you guys should watch it, it doesn't seem so complicated, maybe the cliche but it was interesting!!

I just can't continue watching it with all the complicated scenes that were thrown out, some scenes that just doesn't makes sense to me and the script being overdone. It will probably better if they plotted it into a lesser complicated nonsensical cliche events and focused more on the comedy, life and light side of it like really what I had expected from this drama from the beginning. I love the comedy part of the drama and I feel like the main characters are more well fitting playing that, their acting was so good and fun as well as their chemistry!! That they don't really need to make it even more complicated as it is.

I mean they are obviously incredibly talented actors but their roles and the childish way they are meant to act. Completely illogical. Would reccomd watching until around episode 16 and then stopping as going further ..well you could predict what is going to happen. The 2 main characters will remain together in the end blah blah happy ever after.

His dialogue delivery sometime very childish. I am an Indian but I really hate Indian drama because the story of Indian drama drag unnecessarily, I felt the same thing about this drama, This drama should be ended within 18 episode. Anyhow I like the female lead.

Sometimes is really exhausting see "how korean actors shout and shout" As my friends say "It seems koreans don´t know how to talk! Because all time is shouting and shouting!"

By other hand, the script of drama like "Birth of a Beauty" is really an insult to the intelligence of the viewers. "Too many" illogical and ridiculous situations!!! Looks like a pretty drama, but it has so many foolishness! It seems the writer is insulting the intelligence of all of us! Or may be the writer was trying to create a cheap comedy only?

Marie Jul 19 2016 8:42 am I thought the house that the Lees (Sa Geum Ran's (Han Ye-Seul) in-laws) lived in looked very familiar.... when I checked, it was indeed the same.... the same house in the drama "Cunning SIngle Lady / Sly and Single Again" that was the "dreamhouse" built by Cha Jung Woo (Joo Sang-Wook's character) for his wife Na Ae Ra (Lee Min-Jung's character). :)

I loveeeed his acting in Cunning Single Lady, and his chemistry with the actress lead was no joke. Sadly, in this drama i didn't get the chemistry between JSW and Han Ye Seul. The story is a bit boring and you can predict the ending. I'll give this drama 3 stars out of 5.

KC Aug 05 2015 1:04 am I'm on ep.15 and I think it's a good drama although it's not one of the best I've watched. At the beginning, I feel sympathy towards Sa Geum-Ran but when she becomes Sara, there are many scenes where she overacts. So far, what I like the most is Joo Sang-Wook's acting. There are a lot of funny scenes with the lead actress. However, I'm still not convinced that Han Tae-Hee will love Sa Geum-Ran if she did not do the plastic surgery.

But if you seek something cute and sweet you may end up liking this drama (forget the logic) because I personally like the couple moments of the OTP. Joo Sang Wook was so dreamy in this show but have you seen him in Cunning Single Lady? He totally killed it. To be fair I still prefer Joo Sang Wook in Cunning Single Lady than in this drama :)

First of all, although the main character acts silly in the beginning episodes, everything goes uphill from there there is this transformation from being a weak and naive ahjumma to a woman who learns how wrong she was and gains self confidence. Furthermore, Joo Sang Wook is wonderful in this drama and although very goofy in certain scenes, that's what made this drama all the better, the comedic relief he brought with his acting was hilarious. They both made a lovely couple, their intimate ahjumma/oppa scenes were so crazy but cute and even the villains acting was great enough to hate their guts. Even the OST's matched the life changing story of the ahjumma. Overall, I think he view of those negative comments were superficial they did not understand the meaning behind a life changing transformation from idiopathic to Self sufficient.

I've seen his performance in Cunning Single Lady and I love that drama so much but I have to admit that Birth of a Beauty is boring for me. I skipped almost every part just to see the main actor and actress because both of them are very cute together but for those who haven't seen Joo Sang Wook in CSL must watch it first!!! I was tempted to watch this drama without noticing the low rate :( now I know why people said this drama was disappointing

a man who watched from another star Jun 16 2015 7:49 am I love Han Ye-Seul and Joo Sang-Wook's Chemistry, I am not living in South Korea and I do not know these actors/actress but I enjoyed watching them. I believe that many people may say negative comments about the plot or the story, however I also believe that compare to "a related movie" this drama series is a unique and entertaining, it shows the importance of helping people, loving your family, respect to elders, importance of marraige, issues of liposuction and plastic surgery, struggle to survive and many more. I do hope that SBS will create another drama series with same artist like Han Ye-Seul and Joo San-Wook like comedy drama with a bit of action. I am sure that it will be a hit not just in South Korea but all over the world.

A woman who spent years being fooled by her husband and inlaws, normally would be cautious to the people around her, especially the new ones. But this Sara was extremely fool, that she didn't even know that Han Min Hyuk was the bad guy, the biggest enemy of her beloved Han Tae Hee. It's also very weird that Han Tae Hee didn't even try to explain to her about that from the beginning.

giselle Jun 05 2015 12:05 am do yourself a favour and don't waste 21 hours on this drama. the first episodes are interesting but it goes down too fast. too many episodes and everything's too exaggerated. there's something about han ye seul i dont really like in this drama. she looks too fake, like her acting is not natural. i also cant feel the chemistry between her and joo sang wook. plus sangwook looks so silly and ridiculous in this drama. i mean he's not bad looking, not too handsome anyway but once he opens his mouth he just looks so ridiculous to me. and the way he laughs. i never wish to watch this kind of drama again. sbs disappoints me for the 1st time

But some things just don't make sense and I don't really like Sang Wook's acting in this drama. He looks so stupid lol. Something is too exaggerated. The only thing I like is probably the inlaws' house, so funny to see how it's messed up. And what's with the annoying background music, tsk.

But Han Ye-Seul act so poorly... if the producer would have chosen a better actress for Sara's part, this drama would have been so much better. I can't wait to see Jo Sang Wook acting next to Kim Sun Ah. I love this drama, though, I don't dislike Han Ye-Seul but she's a bit disappointing.

dennis Mar 09 2015 5:05 am nice series ....it's not all about revenge....for me it was made to protect the family values how family in-laws take good care to their daughter/son in-law....when u r entering marriage there's no turning back accept he or she is.... willingness to love someone not because of money,fame and appearance but because what's his/her inside...beauty may fade but the heart does not... im looking forward to the next part of it....

the main message in this drama is about becoming more resilient after one faces many challenges in life which we usually go through together with our close partner or family members..

SW & YL illustrated this point where they portrayed very well of a couple whom shares similar past adversities where they lend strength to each other in over coming them and become an inspiration to one another..

Both taehee and geumran got happiness in the end and the villains sow what they did. Joo sangwook really did a good job and han yeseul too. Too bad the plot in the second half spoiled the good acting. Pfft... but overall this drama is one of the good ones.

Pretty and innocent as Sa Keum Ran, I couldn't help but root for her knowing what her character had been through.

Some times though for some reason.. because of that her character would mildly annoy me. Teacher, was awesome if not clingy and a big softy. The way we meet him comes with a kick and a punch. Pun intended. Can't imagine it's easy for a (Korean) man to come to terms that he's falling in love with someone who weighs 100 KG or...(Approx 200 lbs right? My conversion might be off...) when he himself is extremely good looking.

Of course there's the K-drama slump where for some reason the bad guys have the upper hand and here comes the spoilers: The inevitable break up......It dragged on for a few episodes and I forgot why Teacher and Ahjumma were together in the first place... so by episode 19 we're reminded why they loved each other to begin with.

Episode 20 and 21 gives us more than enough sappiness to remind us why they love each other. If it weren't for the Slump it would've been near perfect.

The fashions in this show are beautiful.

The phones are by LG AKA, and I noticed some LG G3 as well.
There's another android flip phone but I am not sure what name it has exactly but it's not a common phone so it's easy to find if you look up Android flip phones. I personally would've rooted for Han Min Hyuk if he weren't so evil but hey... you can't win them all.

The ending was a happy one so they got that going for them. Would recommend.

There were times that I got so mad about the plot that I started screaming at my t.v., wishing I had something close to me light enough to throw at my screen without damaging it But I absolutely adore the characters and this drama demanded damn near every emotion I have. I am so sad that it is over, but I loved how things turned out. I will probably continue to watch this drama over and over again.

But really I don't remember when I stopped watching from and people's reactions are so funny. stop acting like I've just made an attack on your life it's just a drama LOL god damn you people are hilarious. but you guys have to admit some stuff they put in there are pretty weak, I was kind of writing that in anger because I really liked the drama and when that happened I just thought they could have done better and I had no idea what happened because the quality of the story line gradually decreased. I do still follow the drama just to see if there is any plot summaries to read instead of spending 50 minutes watching it and people are allowed to post their opinions of something even if it's not what you in particular want to hear but I have to say sorry for the spoiling I was just kinda angry at the plot. who knows, maybe right now the plot is better but I would never watch it now.

When Sara went with han min hyuk I disliked her just a bit but the main character can't always be an angel right?? If it was like that the story would be no good. I don't understand what does the police do in Kdrama , I never seen a Kdrama (not police drama) where the police do there job when someone get into accident or get killed as if there is no investigation is done at all until its the time for the villain to get punished the victim gathers the evident and the police shows up for the arrest .

Ofcourse, @evee, nobody forces you to watch this drama, maybe a little bit of sense? Also, nobody wants to see this kind of comments, at least. I`m agree with opinion, that in the 2nd half of this drama something went wrong. From the beggining, I couldn`t stop laughing, the story was interesting. I was so curious, what will happen in the nextr episode. In the 2nd half, it became annoying. I love the main couple, they are acting very well. Han Ye-Seul is such a beautiful actress (IMO the most beautiful korean actress which i`ve ever seen, really) and she is great actress. Joo Sang-Wook he`s very handsome, charming and great actor, too. But even the best cast (just like here), will not save this scenario. Sorry, but this is my opnion. Btw, I love the chemistry between the main characters, they are very naturally.

The story is one of the weakest I've seen, the main actors I used to enjoy watching working together now don't tell eachother anything, and the scene where they attempt to kill han tae hee with a wooden stick? wow really? the worst one I've ever seen in my life. and the peanut allergy and how she delt with it by coughing and passing out couple hours after the fact. wow really ? It's becoming so cliché and stupid I can't watch it any longer.

They hide the most obvious things, assume the opposite of what is most apparent " Because they don't want want each other to hurt." Then everyone is working idiotic cross purposes to thier intent.... M Dec 28 2014 3:53 pm uhm so so... i watch this drama every now and then but never in my top 3 dramas... and I get to do a marathon now that cantabile tomorrow and modern farmer has ended. Pride and prejudice is coming to an end too soon so amongst the remaining dramas, it's Birth of a beauty . I like the main actor Song-Wook oppa. The story is ok, not too heavy until you get to see ep. 14-16.

I barely watch Pinocchio... I even forgot where/what episode i stopped watching. Uhm right now I was waiting for Pride and Prejudice (which is also near its ending) so could you guys recommend? I kinda watched some eps of Legendary witch, I think it's also ok, but it did not get my full interest so i'm not 100% on it.

I'm just really waiting for January for Hyun Bin and Jun-Hyuks' drama. Last years' drama is better than this years' (I'm talking about the last quarter) for me... so looking forward to 2015 K-dramas!

While seeing the previews and the first couple episodes, I remember watching 200 pounds beauty and wanting it to be made into a drama. Now, my wish has been granted. I have missed Han Ye Seul's acting. It is always as captivating as her beauty. This drama is truly remarkable in its casting roles and storyline. The chemistry between the two leads is magnificent and definitely exemplified in the steady ratings. I cannot wait to see how the ending plays out.

emmageorge Dec 17 2014 9:09 pm After Episode 14, to speak the truth, I am only interested in watching Sang-Wook and Ye-Seul act, they are so entertaining together. There are so much chemistry of them both as a couple. Why I like Yi-Seul’s acting so much is because whoever she teams with, there is always a strong chemistry, connection and vividness to the character. This is great acting. They complimenting each other seamlessly as Yi-Seul had done with Eric in 'Spy MyeongWol'. After watching Sang-Wook in his previous piece of work 'Cunning Single Lady' , although his acting cannot be criticised at all but there is no comparison as far as the other lead goes. Without doubt, Yi-Seul has brought out the best of Sang-Wook and vice versa. All they both need is the very best script and strong production team in future to lock-in Rating 1. Good Luck to both!!! Looking forward to the next six episodes and hope the plot is stimulating enough with a beautiful Geum-Ran (not dwelling in the past and shadow) ending. It will be stupid to think that people who have changed their appearances will live in their old form, the old her keep flashing up simply because she has not rid of her painful past, that is all. Weight gain and loss in future, the face will never be the old Geum-Ran. Hope the writer and producer take note!!!

I am onto Episode 3, the plot is very comical but with her acting skill and her beauty, she has convincingly make the character come to life and the drama real entertaining....so far... Really hope that this drama is more creative and beautiful in the end and not pulling a stun like "Incarnation of Money" that the female lead at the curtain call grew back to her original size in her wedding. A typical and predictable twist of Korean drama writer's style. Sincerely hope it's not going to happen!!! Success to all!

Started slow but picked up midway. I'd love to see how they resolve all the issues: Sa Geum Ran's murder, Han Tae Hee's inheritance, the romance between Sara and Doctor...lol. This drama will grow on you so keep watching.

In the first episode when Chae-Yeon said to Geum-Ran, "Have you looked in a mirror?" I was honestly so utterly crushed and disappointed that Geum-Ran did not grab a handful of Chae-Yeon's hair and slam her face into the restaurant table 3 or 4 ,or 12 times. Then whisper in her ear, as Chae Yeon's blood gushed from her now-smashed nose onto the table that is now littered with her broken teeth, "go look in a mirror yourself and see how pretty you look now, bitch." Just sayin'...

Ah who am I kidding. I was disappointed before the restaurant when she didn't come out of the closet with two handfuls of wire hangers and go Joan Crawford their asses.

Overall, the show is ok. But I lamented the loss of Ha Jae-Suk. I really like her a lot. Not that I dislike Han Ye-Seul. To the contrary I loved her in Penny Pinchers. And I'm glad she is working again after the whole Spy Myeong Wol fiasco. But Ha Jae-Suk not staying the lead was sad to me. I liked her a lot in Protect The Boss and she really is an underrated talent.

I wish until the ends everything has all the parts that would explain the motive of the characters. More like some details, how it got to the rising action, climax, and resolution. I really like it. I think it will be the next best drama in coming 2015 :)

Really have to give credit to the director too I think for this as well as the actors and writer. The actresses playing the evil mother in law and youngest daughter are exceptionally hilarious also. I don't know if I have ever seen an 'evil' mother-in-law whose blatant narcissism is even actually funny. It certainly adds a lighter more entertaining touch to this kind of scenario.

If it doesn't fit you, then just leave it..don't waste your precious time. This drama shows us the reality in our world today. Feel it in every scene and you will gain something.

ahloon Nov 09 2014 8:07 pm I don't think we should take everything so serious... the story of "you who came from the stars" was ridiculous as well, yet they have the highest rating for year 2014~ and many other k-drama were not logic as well... it's just a comedy drama, just relax and watch it, if you dislike it, just stop watching it :) at least I am enjoying to watch the funny side of Han YeSeul, everytime when she says: "I am pretty, I don't need any plan", I just lol

Davia Nov 03 2014 10:33 am I am so glad that I grew up in an era when there was enough people who believed in the beauty of individuality and that one's own uniqueness is beautiful inside and out. The clone mentality that some Koreans have bought into is really freaky. Not only that from what I have seen I don't think Korean plastic surgeons are good at what they do. Not only are the nose jobs often really really bad but the faces often look off kilter and weird to. I think that if someone has a deformity than plastic surgery is a great help but otherwise it's really sad to not respect and love oneself enough. If it's true that it's hard to get a job in Korea unless one looks a certain way then shame on those employers. People should ostracize those companies. I actually think that the original Geum Ran is more beautiful. Her beauty would be even more enhanced if she was able to loose some weight. But if one looks at her face and not her weight you can see she's really pretty.

This story would have been more interesting and more original if she got revenge without having to change her look or getting plastic surgery. Her getting plastic surgery is just lazy writing and of course you can't have a fat lady as the lead actress. That's sad.

South Korea is a completely shallow and vain country. Plastic surgery is not the solution to everything. As much as I love Joo Sang wook and Han ye seul, I hope this drama bombs.
