Love story of two sisters and two men. The older sister has everything, including a beautiful appearance, and the younger sister only has a warm heart. One of the men lives on a rooftop apartment and the other man comes from a wealthy family.

Actress Baek Jin-Hee was first offered the lead female role, but declined.
Early working title was "Yasoowa Minyeo" ("The Beast and The Beauty").
Namkoong Min's first lead acting role for a major broadcasting station.
Namkoong Min previously worked with director Baek Soo-Chan and screenwriter Lee Hee-Myung in 2015 SBS drama series "A Girl Who Sees Smells."

Someone Mar 05 2022 12:51 am A production that hits the target, light and fun. You can laugh at the supporting characters while dragging the Gong Shim from start to finish. When you come across hollow and assertive productions in the style of Hometown Cha Cha Cha, their value becomes even more apparent. Excellent casting.

Namkoong Min - this super talented and handsome actor can play any role! Love Ahn Dan Tae - cute, handsome, funny, quick wit, caring and cheesy! What else can you ask for? And Gong Shim, such a lovable heroine, even at her lowest point, she is true to herself.

The entire cast has good chemistry too. Love every single episodes!

glen Dec 08 2021 9:43 am I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder - the title was a misnomer. It seems to me that Korean parents are rarely shown in a good light - they favour the child who can give them the most money and prestige - not nice. I found the male lead tended to grin too much - he looked years older than Shim. Her sister was hateful - a very unsympathetic character who was totally predatory - it was just nasty for her to end up with Joon su. He got over Shim pretty quickly too. It was telegraphed from the beginning who Dan Tae was. It was too long - too unbelievable and too neat a wrap at the end.

dramalover May 23 2021 4:55 am just completed..wow...it got really draggy and lame after ep 10...and the ending also left me like ??? seriously the main lead became a jerk after a while..I mean you couldn't send 1 text or 1 call while you're away? really? wow... I feel like the only good and saving character for the show is the 2nd male lead! Gong Shim should have dumped the male lead and gone with the 2nd lead who was upfront about his feelings and intentions from the start and didn't leave the girl hanging. Only watch this drama if u really have a lot of time to kill and don't mind a draggy and predictable storyline.

The psychological subtleties of relationship dynamics, and the plot itself are stunning. Andante Jan 07 2021 11:42 pm This series is very entertaining. Exciting, funny and romantic. The end is pretty satisfying, so it wraps up making me feel good. I just wish that Gong Mi ends up paying for all her bad deeds, but the writer just let her go with all that :( She should pay for her hypocrisy and her being mean to Gong Shim. Too bad she doesn't.

And I love seeing Nam Koong Min as An Dan Tae, he's good looking and manly, and I love it whenever he shows his love toward Gong Shim.

Can anyone recommend any other similar drama? Funny, romantic, exciting, with a happy ending?

It was entertaining enough for me and Namgoon Min was, as usual, exemplary even if some of the scenes and situations were hard to believe.

cheronicles Sep 03 2020 2:45 pm I'm 1 episode away from finishing this. It was pretty enjoyable. Nam Goong Min is stellar as always. I don't get why he is still a bit underrated. The 2nd lead, Oh Joo Wan, was also good and I was actually rooting for him in the beginning. The soundtrack of the show was great too. It's funny that the only thing I dislike is the titular character. I mean why did they have to write her character to be excruciatingly annoying? I would even use the term dumb. If you take out her character the storyline would still be the same. Oh and they also sort of gave up on the sister too. After building up her character to be a certain way, nothing actually came out of it. She would have been an even better antagonist if the writer maximized her storyline. Everything was predictable but the great acting and the soundtrack made watching enjoyable nonetheless.

Otakuxhallyu Feb 24 2020 12:11 am Additionally, the song "Struggling to You" by Woo Ye Rin, the OST part 1 of this drama is the song that stands out the most. Lyrically and melodically it speaks a very important message about self-love, appreciation, and acceptance. It really uplifts and empowers the listeners...

For those who are struggling, even those in depression, or those who consider suicide, you have to listen to that song and know the meaning.

It was unfortunately underrated. I believe that if more people listen to it, suicides can be prevented and many souls can be saved

Otakuxhallyu Feb 23 2020 7:56 pm I have just finished watching this drama. This feels like a good mixture of classic tropes in classic Korean dramas (Romance, Comedy, family, suspense, melodrama, fairytale elements) with fresh touch for 2016. But the combination really worked for me.

I perceive that the storyline in this drama is divided into 3 main story arcs overlapping each other at some points: 1. Gong Shim's metamorphosis arc : mainly ep 1-11, 13, completed in ep 20 2. Searching Seok Joon Pyo arc 3. Catch the Culprit arc And there are some fillers in the storyline.

I found this trick used in some Japanese animes (Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, Dragon Ball Super and later Boruto) which have long episodes, divided into some arcs, and inserted with fillers. And I enjoy this approach being used in this drama.

The music was superb. I was sad that the instrumental scores were unreleased as they are what hooked me the most. The dramatic instrumentals in Ahn Dan Tae's arc are my favorites.

The actings are on point. I love that the characters are written with their own imperfections which make them like real humans.

The lacking aspect of this drama was that one filler was not neatly enough inserted in the storyline, making the timeline in this drama a little bit messy in one point. And the story dragged a little in the fourth quarter of episodes.

My score : 8/10

I will rewatch this drama for the funny moments :))

J Jing Dec 11 2019 6:48 pm so i just finished it and felt like writing something tho it wont be a review. it wasnt bad it had good moment's fun ones.like ppl said before they just made too many episodes. 16 would be more than enough. if i have to point something i felt rather sad about would be the romance. like it was there. but i felt rather lacking. after all the actors aren't highschool kids. but rather adults. tho Gong shim having a more child'like personalitty would make more sense. cuz her character should be like that. tbh when i saw her on his bed on early episodes. i was like hell yeah we gonn have some good romance early on this time. oh well though it doesn't take that long for them to figure how they feel. it's just keep getting dragged on with some BS.i prob just wanted some lust in their romance. like even the interaction between Gong Shim and joon-soo last episode when he woke her up and touched her hair felt more like a couple. oh well tho it may look like im ranting on it. it inst a bad drama per say. just give it a shot Namgung Min is rly a good actor and got one of the best low voices out there Lul...

Credit goes to namgoongmin, arguably the best korean actor, he is like the johny dep of korean entertainment industry, such a quality actor, massively underrated, probably because he isnt as good looking as the other male leads, even though I think he is more manly looking, and most popular male celebrities are too girly xP

But anyways, its such a light hearted drama, Min ah is so adorable in her role, and the show is definitely a must watch for rom com lovers. 7/10.

While i find that this drama is hillarious and adorable, i can't deny that it's pretty boring. I'm writing this comment while i still haven't finish all of the episodes (on ep 15) but i've been watching this for 4 months now. I can't seem to finish it quicky cuz the story line is dragging pretty apparently and yeah, boring but gon' finish it amyway since i wanna see a happy ending between them two adorable lovers Gong Shim-ssi and An Dan-Tae-ssi <3

Namgung Min is funny that's why i finished the whole thing. The whole story was too dragging. And why is the title Beautiful Gong Shim when it's all about Ahn Dan Tae/ Seok Joon Pyo? Not sure if the writer wanted to go a different route with the story. The only thing I liked about this drama is the story behind Ahn Dan Tae/Seok Joon Pyo. That's it. And I noticed that Gong Shim has no significance in the story at all. This would have been a better crime drama for me. LOL

Arihant Aug 07 2017 7:00 am Great twist on kdrama Romcoms with a lead actress showcasing baldness(???) as a great impediment to self love. Nam gung min is utterly impressive as the "Professor Higgins" in this Pygmalion reimagining with Birth secrets and a main cast that actually shows true camaraderie.Min ah is terrific as well and I was surprised this was her first lead role. Brilliantly directed and shot with superb music (Again by wheesung and Face on fire are real standouts) ,this is one worthy competitor to Coffee Prince, my gold standard to kdrama romcoms.

This PD /writer team seems to gel togerher as they have done some really good dramas.While many reviews have basically negated episodes 10 to 19,i felt the opposite since the mystery did deserve the resolution it found and it allows us to see depth in what would otherwise only be a cute drama.

I also found this drama to have one of the most goodhearted second leads around who also did not literally stalk the heroine after the refusal.(another similarity it shares with Coffee Prince)

This secondary story really allows Namgoong Min to shine. He is a versatile actor that makes Ahn Dan Tae absolutely shine. The actors cast were perfect for their roles and the story is complete from start to finish. It contains the typical k-drama tropes but those can be ignored here because the core story is so compelling. I laughed, cried and shouted at this drama. Brilliant all around.

Namgoong Min and Minah have 15 years age gap. But their chemistry is good. This is the first time I see Namgoong Min play in romance comedy. Usually I saw him as serial murderer or bad villain. I hope he can play in more light comedy drama like this.

Despite the typical storyline, you will grow to love the cute scenes between the actors. Namgoong Min in particular is ridiculously hilarious with his antics and the soundtrack is one of the pleasantest that I've heard in a kdrama. Well done!

Yes, the plot was a little nonsensical, but I guess the main point is that, the producer wanted to remove the negative impression of Namgoong Min's character in the dramas Remember and The girl who can see smell. His role in Gong Shim was like a cutesy but adorable guy that would make the audience think "Oh, this guy can act on a ROMCOM series well." Let's leave it that way. You always have the right to express your opinion about this drama. It is better to have a guy like you who's been very honest about how you feel.

I still love this drama no matter what the plot is. hahaha I love Namgoong Min no matter what role he is in to.

Alfredo Kijung Aug 08 2016 5:35 am I'm now in the Egypt working at construction site for refinery, and in the late forties. even i haven't known the female actress before i first saw the drama, and now i can hardly wait to watch the whole again. wow, how good she and he was, i think the actors and actress starred on the drama performed and showed their greatness which i believe made me be a real fan to Gooshim, Min-ah. the gongshim Minah in the show played was kind of character who strongly makes all viewers feel empathy for her. i will join her fan claub, and already started considering what i shall do as a real fan....is it funny?, yea. i think the same way you do... but i can't do anything else because i have already fallen into love her...hahah....

For the job, of course he is the upper man in his company ( maybe CEO) bcause Jun Su's dad have been promoted to Chairman of the company. Dont forget that he is the only heir for the company and he just doing voluntering free service for the law firm.

But i just wanna see he is marry to Gong Shim and having kids, so this drama will be more insteresting. Overall I gave 5 star for this drama and especially their top class acting. At first I never thought MinA can act superbly. Highly recommended drama for this year ^^

Nicey Aug 01 2016 8:11 am What is the problem about Namgung Min older in real life than Minah?? He is a good actor, he performs well and looks younger for his age in this drama. It does not show that they have that age gap. Although i am not satisfied with the ending, this drama is good, highly recommended.

I thought it will be refreshing to see Namgung playing unusual character as a humorous man (if you watched sensory couple and remember, you might started to think he's a psycho because he played it very well). Both Namgung and Minah killed it here. Their chemistry was great and everything about them are so fine. Except the plot. It was dead boring and very predictable. From 20 episodes, it was only 2-3 episodes that gave me thrill. The story was too monotonous. It was pretty hilarious, but not really recommended for me.

I don't mean to start an argument but no one here seems to find anything wrong with a relationship between a 30-something man and a woman in her early 20's - probably just turned 20 (they never reveal her age in the drama). I find that to be a tad devious and creepy, which is what I've been saying all along.

Glad to hear your relationship is going well! The problem I seem to have is that it should come off as a little more mature romance. I can understand Ahn Dan-Tae acting a little childish at times, seeing that he is the older one in the relationship, but geez, Gong Shim just acts so bubble gum immature that she comes of as being irritating. The story is compelling without the romance, which makes the romance even more irritating.

I hate her sis. though, and I know I'm not the only one XD Though, I'm a bit dissappointed for the ending :3 The ending is quite... I dunno, lacking? I'm expecting something ( I really want to see them get married, atleast thats good for an ending for me ) It should be atleast 21 ep. The 20 is for the whole casts reconcilation or something, remniscing is also good. And they should atleast show atleast few scenes of what happened for the whole yr., when Dan Tae left. And 21 is for Dan Tae and Gong shims moments. Yeah, I know that I'm too demanding... But, waaah.. I feel like something is missing.I really hope that they will make an extra or special episode. I need it, really.

Dantae's excuses for not contacting Gong Shim is so stupid like it doesnt even make sense. And the last episode are like typical happy ending like other korean drama. I thought the last episode will have some more creativity as the other episodes are unique and funny :l

Does it bother you seeing a "May-December" love affair drama/theme/story? The concept of the story was to provide a lasting impression of the characters. Namgoong Min and Minah really did well in this drama. The age of both lead actors hasn't really bothered the audience. In fact, it was really fun to watch.

Love can happen when you least expect it, and then age difference (not much in this drama) is irrelevant. Although, searching specifically for a younger girl to date, is perhaps the wrong way to go about finding anyone ... and sounds a tad devious and creepy.

Mike Jul 23 2016 12:50 am Don't know how it doesn't bother you guys but this Ahn Dan-Tae/Gong Shim relationship bothers me and turns this otherwise interesting drama into something I can't watch. He's an OLDER man and she's a young, seemingly immature girl who is infactuated with an OLDER man. He's just as bad because it looks like he's a desperate OLDER man who isn't able to find a woman his own age to date. The plot without the puppy love added in is really good - why is an OLDER man/younger girl relationship so fascinating to most of you? I can only dream about such a relationship because, in real life, it's only a pipe dream unless you're filthy rich and in need of some arm candy! Just finished watching Entertainer a couple of weeks ago and the same exact thing happened in that drama, too. I take it back - the next time I'm able to visit South Korea I'll go searching for a younger girl to date. Maybe it isn't a pipe dream after all!

Jane Jul 19 2016 11:15 pm Beautiful Gong Shim has been my source of energy whenever I feel sad. This drama will give you happiness especially the role of Minah. There are scene that will cause you pain and will make you cry cause it really happens in real life (esp the gas station scene wherein gong shim was humiliated by a rude/rich woman). This drama is all about love, love from your family, special someone and ofcourse on how to accept and love yourself. I'll miss every actor of Beautiful Gong Shim. They're all amazing!

Whether they are match or not are not the main reasons do not like the shows? Important is they matched to the roles and characters that they acted and I feel both the main actors, Nimgoong-Min and Minah are suitable in this show. I don't find any young actor can act as diligent and mimetic as Nimgoong-Min and innocent/plain-looking yet cute as Minah. Thumb-up for both of them.

Mike Jul 16 2016 12:50 am Mona, looking at tonight's episode, though, she does look underage when she is with him. She also looks quite immature when they are interacting in scenes. That is my main objection when characters of varying age differences are cast in the roles of love interests. I have the same issue with "Happy Home," (female character much older than male character) and "Entertainer." I guess I shouldn't feel so guilty, then, if I happen to become interested in a younger woman!

She has no idea what is going on with ah dan tae. it is not the actress's fault or her acting . It is the writer's fault for degrading the main actress into a secondary role. Not just Gong Shim being push aside. Her sister too. I expected that the story plot would let Gong Mi be the evil girl who aggressively tried to take away Joon Soo. But that actress barely has any time on screen. She show up every once in a blue moon just for decoration. Honestly I'm disappointed. This drama start out really well and now it is just dragging its feet.

What I see is the character Gong Shim with a high school crush on Ahn Dan-Tae, a much older man, and he seems to be falling for her. In this country, it is sometimes referred to as "robbing the cradle." If there are going to be dramas with a relationship as part of the story line, then why not cast actors that are around the same age? This isn't the first Korean drama that I've followed that does this and for me it just takes away some of the enjoyment I have in watching a drama when it makes me feel uncomfortable watching a much older guy involved with such a young girl. The plot is a good one and I'll continue watching but I can't ignore this. It must be alright in Korea if I'm the only one who notices these types of things.

He has the comedic style and expressions of Stanley Laurel, Englishman of the great comedy team of Laurel and Hardy. Laurel was an understudy of Charlie Chaplin. Namgung can also send shivers of fear down my back as in the part he played in "The Girl Who Sees Smells". I don't want this to end! I re-watch NGM'S pieces as I wait for his new works. Anticipating seeing "Light My Fire", his directorial debut piece! I look forward to Minah maturing as an actress. I will watch for her works in the future.

Seo Hyo Rim looks ulgy in Sungkyunkwan Scandal.However, in this drama, she is tall, slim and gorgeous. Minah acted well although she is still an amateur actress. The humourous scenes brought laughter into my life and brighten up my day.

Migthy Thor Jun 16 2016 3:17 am I think the writer mistitles this drama, I would suggest "the Crazy Ahn Dan-Tae" After all, the story revolves about his identity (life) and the lead character of this drama is Ahn Dan-Tae (Namgung Min) not really Gong Shim. Anyaways, this is really a nice romantic-comedy drama. I really enjoy watching Nam Gung Min. He's truly a brilliant and versatile actor.

Made me laugh hard. Minah is just gorgeous in here, even with that wig on. She is so charming, really suits the character, it doesn't make you question why the two lead guys like her.

To those people who complained about the main actress not "getting" that the guys find her attractive....THAT is the point! She's been so dumped on by family , friends and society that she cannot believe that someone would actually fall in love with her. But despite the fact that odds are against her in the game of life, she perseveres and does not give up on herself. THAT is her charm the two gentlemen love. Kudos to the acting ensemble!!

Well...we never know whether we can do it that good or not when we are in their shoes. and to @ Krazy ,,this drama is not boring after all,, Dan Tae and Gong Shim have so much chemistry, I really don't have a second lead syndrome here. And I've got good news for people who love this show, this is a 20 episodes long drama! I'm so happy, I can watch more of them :)

Maya Jun 03 2016 5:29 pm OK,there are a lot of negative comments that come from the people who aren't patient enough to see the development of relationships of the actors, obviously in episode 1 or 2 your not going to find out every reason as to why a certain character behaves in a certain way!

OK now that I've ranted I just want to say I love this drama especially because it's uplifting and humorous but it has the tendency to be dramatic (you need the drama), and heck everything about Namgung Min is adorable and cute in this drama. Minah is obviously a new actress and her skills are for a beginner are awesome, and she bring the sass out the character like any other good actress would!

Finally! People give this drama a chance! Don't stop right at the beginning and make judgements that aren't representative of the whole drama because it would mislead other potential viewers! Oh no I ranted again didn't I?! Oh well, this drama is awesome and I highly recommend you to watch more than 2 episode!

deedee May 31 2016 9:40 pm when I first watched NGM's role in this drama, it was weird as I just watched Remember. but right in the mid of episode 1, I am totally in love with his acting skill. as well as Minah's. both have a very good chemistry, and it's funny. it is not boring at all.

so, if you feel NGM's acting is not good, or the drama is boring, then stop watching it. like i did with "another miss oh". I stopped watching it, because it's boring.

andy May 30 2016 7:16 am What the f are you guys who are saying that Min Namkoong suits evil roles only? Have you guys even watched him in anything other than 'Remember' or 'The Girl who Sees Smell'? Because the first time I watched him was in 'I Need Romance-3' and he played a sexy, cute and caring second lead! I fell in love with him in that drama and I have watched all his dramas and movies after that! And I can with confidence say he's such a good actor because even though he plays similar roles in 'Remember' and TGWSS he has put in such distinctive characteristics in his roles that anyone who has studied cinematography or has any interest in movies will tell you idiots that he is a brilliant actor! And it is not easy on anyone to act as psychopath, it is mentally and socially draining and tiring. Even he has lost so many advertising offers and roles after he started taking on evil roles. Especially in a country like Korea where the citizens like to point fingers and can't differentiate drama between real life.

Anyway I didn't come here to bash anyone but I had to let this out after reading so many comments on this nonsense....

Dan Tae and Gong Shim have so much chemistry, I really don't have a second lead syndrome here. And I've got good news for people who love this show, this is a 20 episodes long drama! I'm so happy, I can watch more of them :)

The cast is not that attractive imho compare to other drama I've watched.. But it just make the drama relatable as they look normal like common people, they're not overly attractive but still good looking.

I hope they could keep the good performance and a good story to watch and a good ending.. I just really wish they didn't end up like cheese in the trap. AMEN
