Kang Ha-Ri (Kim Joo-Hyun), with her bright personality, works part-time at a stationery store and a nail shop. Min Deul-Re (Jang Seo-Hee) was a popular actress, but she isn't so popular these days. Kim Eun-Hyang (Oh Yoon-Ah) worked as a secretary prior to the birth of her daughter, but she now focuses on raising her daughter.

These three women lose their most loved ones around the same time. Even though they are not related, they rely on each other to get through the tough times.

Notes

"Unni Is Alive" takes over the SBS Saturdays 20:45 time slot previously occupied by "Our Gab-Soon" and followed by "Bravo My Life" on October 7, 2017.
First script reading took place March 8, 2017 at SBS Ilsan Production Studios in Goyang, South Korea.
"Unni Is Alive" airs once a week on Saturday, instead of Saturday and Sunday like previous drama series that aired at the same time slot.
From ep.1 to ep.40 each episode is 70 minutes and two episodes air on Saturdays, but from ep.41 (September 2, 2017) each episode is 35 minutes and 4 episodes air on Saturday.

Park Min Sep 30 2022 7:50 pm The lesson to be learned here is reckless driving got consequences. The drama started with no one to root for, none of the characters were interesting or likable enough to care about them initially. I ended up hating more than half the cast by the end. It's infested with plot holes but I guess that's expected from long running makjangs. Sound design often fails every other scene. Some scenes were echoing while other were muffled. The "improbable coincidences" factor goes to extreme levels in this drama, kinda makes it hard to watch.

The bullshit starts after the first 1 year time-skip. It's impossible for Se Kyung hair to grow this long in a year lol. The drama hit the shitter after episode 32. It's impossible for someone as rich as Pil Mo to be this dunce, the dude got a single digit IQ. Kang Ha Ri is a main character but she almost doesn't show up in the second half, 5 episodes can pass without seeing her.

Worst time-skip ending in a long running drama ever, I'm not satisfied with this half-assed outcome. This 6-years time skip was awful, none of the stories ended up as I hoped. Not a single pair ended up together "officially". The pairings were awful altogether anyway. Dal Hee didn't get punished enough.

Random remarks: Hong Shi smile will resolve any conflict in a second. Since I saw Byun Jung Soo in "Manny (2011)", I can only remember her as Janice as she screams "I'm Janice!". Lee Yoo Ri cameo around the ending was superb.

Some serious illogical assery in spoilers: - Dal Hee/Sera Park, Miss Lee and Tae Soo all were alive and barely punished at the end but Se Kyung is dead. In what absurd logic does this make sense!!

- They built up Ha Ri and Gi Chan to be together for +50 episodes, they confessed their feelings to each other, their parents in law agreed to give them their blessings, yet somehow for whatever bullshit reason the love interest shifted towards Se Joon in the last 5 episodes. They didn't even have that many scenes together, let alone the none existent chemistry. Kang Ha Ri got robbed, barely any screen time and shitty love path.

- Eun Hyang and Hwan Seung not ending up together is another random bullshit. Oh Yoon Ah put 200% in her performance.

Lola Dec 16 2017 10:05 am TBH i started this drama because of Dasom and while many netizens hate her acting in her previous dramas but i think she pretty much embodied the character of Yang Dal Hee, an improvement happening here. However, instead of watching this for Dasom i watched this drama with deep interest on the story plot itself. Not going to say the best kdramas of 2017 but definitely one of the most interesting dramas this year and for a long-term drama project, this one surpassed my expectation. Never thought it would be exhilirating as hell but it did! To some of you who are reluctant to start this drama for its long episodes, dont worry cuz it's just that good. Give it a try, seriously :)

And I especially loved the storyline of yang dal-hee i watched it only bcs of her cuz i find her an interesting character and ADORE the girlxgirl scenes between yang dal-hee&yong min jung (i don’t know if i spelled it right) in 1 episode it was kinda short tough but i enjoyed every bit of it and kept replaying the scene still wished they’d kiss T^T...it gives me such a LGTB vibe~ ??️‍? I love hong-shi,vicky jung,sera park and goo se kyung others were great too such great acting! ^-^

Sister is alive the best family drama ever. When I watching episodes always I am going crazy because thinking about what will happen next episodes. Really really I love this drama. All actors and actresses were did their best, specially I want to thank you Oh A-Rin (kid). She is adorable, gorgeous, beautiful, kind, smart, funny,..... Her acting skills are superb. And the Three main characters did their best too. Kang ha ri, Min Deul Hee, Kim Eun Hyang I really respect them. Yang Dal Hee ( fake Sera Park) Lee Gye hwa , Koo sr kyung, while I watching this drama I really hate them. Finally I realise that they portrait their evil characters best to bought this drama this long, Yong ha's acting good too. Koo Pil Soon you're a best Spy I have ever seen. It's worth watching. The story line was amazing.. amazing.. amazing.. Finally I must thank you Director Choi Hyeong Hun, Writer Kim Sun Ok, SBS team, all the actors and actresses.. my English isn't very good. You can tell each and everyone is doing their job right - making it a great drama to watch and love. I want to see a sequel - even though I have not seen the last episode. You all are the best - keep it going. Hwang Yan Young Hee - I enjoy her character whenever she gets mad - her acting skills so good and very funny !!!

this is literally my favourite sbs drama weekend maybe it's because of my fav writer from jang bo ri is here if u have not watch it do it now trust me it is worth your time.

I don't know if their information is correct or they're just guessing.

Im going crazy and oh my daughter (she's only 6yrs old)also is so inlove with it....i hate yang dal hee and lee ye ghwang lol!

I like the continuos suspense but how about some relieve too? At least let one evil character get her punishment, don't prolong everything. I love the drama but it's beginning to annoy me.

June Aug 24 2017 11:00 am This drama is interesting in the aspect that it's still a typical good vs evil kind of drama, but at the same time unique because while the show is based on the three heroines who lost their loved ones, it seems to focus more on the villains, and shows that they all are driven by weaknesses, be it loved ones or from being turned evil by someone else. It does kind of drag on a bit, but overall interesting. And I honestly believe this showcases Dasom's acting, sometimes I feel as if she's the main character since her character is the one who started the whole mess. I'm glad the drama is doing well.

Very old storyline about evil woman trying to gain power and destroy love enemy but then the production team managed to make it so interesting and anticipating to watch.

Agree with past comments, amazing cast and top notch performance. *clap clap*

With only 18 episodes to go, I hope the baddies in the drama gets what they deserve & the goodies find love & happiness with happy endings.

I hope Sera Park's sister will be adopted by Al Pacino & wife & not sent to the States.

She is one of the best actresses in the business...she is very funny...love all the extra comedy in this drama. They give each character a good story. Gorgo Jul 25 2017 12:07 am An amazing cast of players! The villains are each giving top notch performances as are the good guys. Jang Seo Hee never seems to age. She is still the fairest in the land in every drama that I've seen her appear in. Pyeon Jung-Su and Yang Yeong-A are great as always, and the little girl is so cute and another great child actress in the tradition of Korean drama. How they keep coming up with these talented children is just astonishing, The never seem to run out of talented kids and beautiful ladies...

Miro Jul 04 2017 12:30 am ... after seeing the 23rd and 24th episodes of this drama, I'm beginning to feel that his contents correspond to a description of horror rather than a romance or a family story - only in horror can the evil of the duo-monster Yang Dal-Hee + Lee Gye- Hwa, so lucky that everything that they do to them goes so easily. Their actions are completely transparent, they involve so many dubious people who can reveal them at any time that me me irritating their self-confidence ...Lee Gye-Hwa comes out as a mentally disturbed personality - a psychopath, or rather a murderous virus. I'm curious how Koo Se-Joon can handle it when he learns what his mother has done, especially what role he played when his grandmother died (Sa Goon-Ja). I admit that I do not like horror, and so it is tedious to watch for me in so many parts of the devastating sack of this pair, although (I hope) deserved retaliation catch up and I hope it will not be in the last series. Perhaps the writer and screenwriter is allowed to "fry in his own juice" in several parts of this drama, before its conclusion ...

Are you watching the story of this drama at all, or are you just staring at your idols? .That's what Kang Ha-Ri would have "won" if she looked and some, for me, incomprehensibly mistaken, could open her heart to this toff. Why should she as an intelligent and honorable girl be interested in someone like Koo Se-Joon? When things go so that justice overcomes all the evil caused by the four Yang Dal-Hee, Lee Gye-Hwa, Koo Se-Kyung and Choo Tae-Soo, it would be equally right for Kang Ha-Ri to end up in a couple with someone this drama will be returned to his legitimate place and is totally different somewhere other than Koo Se-Joon - I do not want to pair anyone here and I do not know what the writer's goal is, but it would normally be clear to everyone where the story goes even though there is even more than half .... :)

The film character that has caused so many tragedies and evil in the first 4 episodes and seems to be doing so much to the end of the series, I really hate it. She played it really credibly ... it does not change that I hardly like her - but that's just my subjective opinion, so I apologize to all her fans ... I just hope that at the end of the series everything will not turn again and she will suddenly be an "angel" she did not do anything ... everyone should carry the consequences for his actions. I'm wondering how the writer will cope with this, and also the script ...

LKB Apr 12 2017 10:36 am So a mostly good director partners up for a second time (maybe third) with a mostly horrible writer whose only, from what I have watched(which is most or all of almost all her works), only wrote a decent piece when working with this director who likely changed a lot based on how her other works are all very similar and the one that stood out as different is w/this director... Anyway, while I wonder is he will salvage her script again or if it will be another miserably poor drama... I am pretty scared to start it. Beware, some naive girl is probably going to be overlorded by another girl... I noticed Ahn Nae Sang in the pic and indeed he is listed... Sadly his role seems minor (and he has cameoed and featured in SUCH an astounding number of shows I could never watch BECAUSE he is in it, amazing short true story based AWL an exception as he is a co-lead in it)... 50 hours of that writer... The one good thing she did was less than half that length and the really bad ones are longer...

Why bother writing it? To give a heads up as the unni to a majority or ahjumma more precisely... Some 150+ Kdramas watched, I can say confidently that 50-hour shows are much harder to pace and stay focused and clear the whole way through/not sidetrack and in general they disappoint more often than shorter ones because frankly VERY few writers can handle 50 hours of content. For anyone just watching whatever looks interesting from episode 1 or a synopsis or just watching for a star that is newer/fresh/young and likely gorgeous therefore worthy of hunting down in dramaland... Well, beware. If ONLY having pretty people in it isn't enough to make you happy investing 50 hours, perhaps waiting instead of being sucked in (waiting til it is 60-80% over, the 75% mark where most can say if they give a thumbs up while a thumbs down often is given between the halfway mark and 3/4 of the way through as that is where many writers just crash, this one in that group... Anyway, after 35 hours or so, most will know if it will survive since that final quarter is the easiest to write well)... Oh, while many hate her endings, this writer's biggest weakness seems to be character development... She has a handful of stock characters, a bit like those tacky awful Harlequin romance series that are basically one of 8 or so storylines with the timeline/order of stock events and character names shuffled randomly and the whole book tossed out in a few days... My advice is go watch the massive number of tried and true shows while waiting for ones with a high chance of flopping to either survive or fail! Really great shows will usually have top top stars, amazing vetted writers and directors etc or in the case of cable networks they discover a lot of new talent and often "make" stars out of lesser role actors when they see potential (esp. tvN!)... Anyway, take it or leave it but at least LOOK at the writer's shows to see if your reason for watching this 50 hour show right NOW before anyone can say it is great...see if it is worth the urgency felt watching as they air! If not, enjoy something of known high quality!
