18-year-old Choi Joon-Woo (Ong Seong-Wu) has gotten used to being lonely. He is not good at expressing his emotions, but he has a cute side. He transfers to a new school where he meets Yoo Soo-Bin (Kim Hyang-Gi). She is a top student, but her life is controlled by her mother. Yoo Soo-Bin dreams of becoming independent. After meeting Choi Joon-Woo, she experiences small changes in her life. Meanwhile, Ma Whi-Young (Shin Seung-Ho) is a student who seems perfect and gentle, but he suffers from a complex. He acts like a strong person, but he is really a timid 18-year-old boy. After Choi Joon-Woo transfers to his school, his life begins to change.

When it comes to teenage/school dramas, bullying/hierarchy/classes and school pressure aren't doing it for me unless they take an interesting angle of which this drama failed to do. It fell into the endless pit of vexing mediocrity. On another note, sloppy writing that is sincerely flawed and only focuses on the shininess of teenage fluff and antics, further demoting its poor efforts in creating a story. On an unrelated note, I wonder when Kim Hyang Gi would graduate from playing student roles, it's getting stale. Also, it's a waste for the adult cast to be involved in such drama.

Rima Apr 28 2023 4:11 pm I loved All of it, i loved All of the cast! It s an amazing wonderful drama with a great story and beautiful music too. I loved the leads Ong Seong Gu and Kim Hyang Gi. Great performance and great chemistry! Amazing job! Also Kang Ki Young, well done, a very strong performance. To all the cast: Bravo! I enjoyed it to the fullest, not a second bored, nothing cheesy… I hope there will be a season 2!

May Apr 27 2023 10:28 pm I really hate the character of Whi-young, his mom Young- joo, pretentious Ro-mi, Sun-young the mom of Soo- bin. They are all irritating and toxic. No wonder many students are commiting suicide due to pressure from parents. This maybe a drama but the way I see it, this is really happening. I hope parents learn to appreciate whatever achievements their children's have and not expect too much. There are so many dramas that I watched that have this kind of plot to be an eye opening but still no one ever learns.

I think this show deserve a second season to see how O-Je, Soo-Bin and Joon-Woo, Why-Young, and all other couples stories will be evolving. And Mr Oh is the teacher that everyone should have had in their school time.

Queenie Feb 28 2023 9:57 pm I really liked this series. I know you can’t always have a happy ending but that’s what I wanted to see. Is this the reality of so.Korean students? Mega pressure to always study? Seems like they study from dawn till past dinner into early evening and then go home and do more.!!! I think the cast was excellent especially the 2 main characters. Story line made your heart break just watching Joon woo’s sad life all on his own. Would love a season 2 but would want same actors! Loved the teacher!

O-Je comments are worth thinking about, Pil-Sang comes across as being a delinquent but his hearts in the right place and Chan-Yeol is matter of fact no nonsense but humorous at the same time. Everyone needs a teacher like Mr Oh. It took him a while to grow a set but when he does, he's brilliant. I would definitely watch a season 2.

Keekaye Jan 09 2022 11:06 pm Beautifully-done drama. Loved how these high school students handled their problems maturely, even if some of them took a longer time to do so.

Jun-u and soo-bin's handling of their relationship was also very matured. At the end of the story, you just can't help but sympathize with everyone.

One character that stood out for me the most was that of oh han kyeol, the teacher. His was the single character that tied everything up. If only all teachers were like him, I know there wouldn't be a student's life wasted.

Wouldn't hurt to have a season 2, as some here have said.

ashauyh Feb 10 2021 12:13 pm minor opinion, I actually more interested in the story of the side characters as well (like the math genius, the male lead's best friend, also the teacher's story). I actually enjoy the drama till first half (around ep8), but then I started to feel like there's just too much problems/drama in the main character's life. Idk if some people also have that much problem when they're in high school, or is it just me who had a very calm high school w/o any drama with friends and family. The problem in the drama keep arising one after another, that I feel it's too problematic to watch :') It also took too much time for Hwi Young's character development. Indeed I understand that irl it may take longer time than 16ep of drama, so it's very realistic. I just don't like how most problem in the drama caused by him (if not by the students' parents). W/o Hwi Young, the only antagonist would be the parents.. So it's really unbearable for me to see Hwi Young doing bad stuffs. It feels like they only put him as an antagonist there. Also how unlucky for the male lead to keep meeting problem either in his old and new school :( How could he have a consecutive bad luck for years.. So yeah, after the first half, I just skip around few last ep (only checking very few scenes for the side character's story), as it's obvious what kind of ending the main characters will have.

It makes me remember the me around that age, who was struggling to find my true self and how to solve the problems I had. Soo Bin and Hwi Young made me remember how I studied hard to made my mom proud, secretly dating with my crush coz my mom didn't allow me, acted like I'm okay at that age and having fun my friends. Such precious memories that I want to keep. But just like they said, we were just 18 at that time and a lot of things would happen in the future. And here I am, feeling much better after years. Kudos to the actors (esp my Ong Seong Wu, who did great even tho that was his first drama), the writer, PD and staff.

About the ending, they made it to be opened. Well, I don't think that was bad. It makes us wondering about their future, but also allows us to make our own ending. For me, I will make it to be a happy ending. After they separated, Jung Wo helped his mom, joined a new school and courses. He worked really hard and came back to Seoul to joining university in art major, after his mom business went well. And then he met again with soo bin, perhaps in the Uni of Seoul. They supported each other until graduated and finally soo bin mom allowed them to be together. Then they got great jobs and married, lived happily ever after. The End.

The young casts' acting are commendable. the entiere series may be filled with many subplots and secondary characters but each are given ample amt of detail without muddling the main story which is about the journey of the main character of finding himself.I also love the OST.

Be prepared to cry for the first few episodes, at least I did, an other parts inbetween. It’s realistic anf accurate, it shows the individual lives of each of the cast and their side stories without taking away from the main story. Feel good feels. I admit the ending is bittersweet but you can’t be mad at it really as it’s realistic, they’re 18 and this is just the beginning of their lives. This drama really holds a special place in my heart, 9/10 would recommend <3

diwaiji Apr 28 2020 2:17 am Took me so long to finished this drama but I have to write this review. Its a slow drama. It is mellow, sad, 'romantic', with that bits of high-schooler freshness side. And it is full with moral values too. I am more invested with stories of the side characters rather than the main characters tbh. But i love how the 2 main characters faced their problems maturely. Soobin is such a good daughter despite having a mother who literally controls her entire life, even tellingher who to friend with and who not to. But in the end, both Soobin and her mother learnt from each other to be a better person. 4/10.

But BTW, all in all, this is a warm drama for me. This drama teaches the Parents that dont pressure your kids in studying coz you will never know what they are going through. I will not say the plot is very special, but they didn’t leave any holes in the drama and everything is covered nicely. Some high school dramas even though they have an interesting plot, but it seems kinda unrealistic and you can see holes everywhere ? Not to mention the small details of this drama is really realistic too. I can relate to this really really well since I just went through the same process as them as an 18 year old. Their acting, damn. All the details they lit into their acting. I know most of the actors since I watched a lot of web dramas and their acting ?? They’re from web dramas but their acting can already beat most of the big drama actors man. I’m a big fan of soobin and teacher oh’s actor too. I give it a 10/10 cause I really really enjoyed this drama, and also I major in film and I see no mistakes in the drama’s editing and all that. Like some dramas you can find accidental mistakes in it pretty frequently if you pay well attention ?

The story is telling about the trauma of parents at the age of 18 years, so that it has an impact in educating their 18-year-old child. I don't really like the slow-flow of this drama. I get bored quickly by watching it.

I know that the title of the finale has said that the separation is not forever, maybe it's the most realistic one since jung woo and soo bin are still high school students. they have to be more focus on their last year at school. I really need to see jung woo and soobin happily ever after on screen. Oh...my heart is aching. ..

CONTAINS SPOILERS* I watched this drama when it started, but I somehow stopped (idk what was the reason) I watched it again during the semestral break. All I can say is, WE WANT SEASON 2! The ending was just not it. I feel like it's missing something. Most dramas have these '1 or (what number) year later' and shows what happened to the characters and all... and yeah, I cried a lot. Hyang gi's acting was so on point (as expected) I really cried on that flashback scene when Soobin was a kid and tried to stop her mom from leaving while crying. It was just so heartbreaking. Seung woo was also amazing considering this is his first drama! He played the character well. I also really liked the character development of the characters like Hwi Young, Ki Tae, Pil Sang, and Ro Mi. I just really hope that there will be a season 2. *cross fingers* (BTW This drama deserves more recognition! I hope others will watch it too!)

87 Sep 14 2019 12:55 pm SPOILERS! loved watching high school dramas and love this too! however, plot was abit slow. and the height different between soo bin and junwoo and hwiyoung was abt awkward. when they stand beside each other, kiss, and hug.

all in all, i loved the chemistry and friendship between junwoo and soobin’s mothers. secretly hoping that the two mothers and children will hang out together as a happy ending.

this drama’s ending left me with some questions. what happen to hwiyoung family afterwards? did they become a better person? what happen to junwoo’s mother financial situation? did soo-bin eventually got into the seoul university? wished the drama would show all these before it ends haha. (i’m too engrossed into the character’s life) heheh

As drama lover, At Eighteen portray Asians student life very well and I praised the whole crew and actors for this good drama.

But I did watch it because the story is great and the actors are good. Ong seung-wu is great although it's his first acting appearance, his emotions can truly move the audience and his eyes are expressive. Love it. Bravoo. Hoping there will be a sequel tackling about life after school with all the cast

Kim Hyang-Gi's acting impresses me more with each movie or drama I see her in. Ong Seong-Wu and Shin Seung-Ho were also standouts. I look forward to seeing these young actors in future roles. I am always happy to see Kang Ki-Young for the way he brings a soft comedic touch to even serious dramas.

Maybe a Season 2 to see where life takes these characters?

The parents were kinda scary and you sympathize because you know they only want the best for their child like any parent. Can’t believe the next two are the last two ep :(

This drama never disappoints me since the acting of all the cast was so good even the first time in a lead role Ong Seung Wu (I am a new fan, even though I already know there's a group called wanna one but never knew the members aside from Kang Daniel) I love his chemistry with Hyang Gi. They are so adorable together. And makes me crazy thinking what will happen after Soo Bin received a text saying that Jun Woo was using her?! Ugh I really want to punch who the hell texted SB. My thoughts will be either Romi or Hwi Young since they are both like Jun Woo and Soo Bin. And yes like all the comments below, please bring back Sang Hoon! He should joined force with Jun Woo about Hwi Young. Although I dislikes Hwi Young I pity him because of what kind of parents he has. Monster father and manipulative mother who used her power just Hwi Young remained in his position as being the number 1 in school. Ahhh I just can't wait what will happen, we have only 8 episodes left, and I still wonder what will be Oh je's secret?

I also meet friends who has problems like soobin, hwiyoung, and junwoo. This drama learn us more about parenting actually for parents who has children in highschool. Highschool life is also really difficult in that way. I love this drama! Fighting!!!!

The main character (Jun Woo) seems currently having no serious problem at all and Sang-Hoon has more things to be discovered. In addition, it's very rare in K-drama, there is a character who is a nosy, swell, snob and very genius at the same time. Too many to be discovered and explored from the character alone, like "Good Will Hunting" in Korean drama.Aarrgghhh... I don't know what to do. I love At Eighteen so much because of the characters there, and I love Sang Hoon's character most, and every time I see Sang Hoon on my screen, I replayed the scene multiple times because his scenes are often very short. It seems, in the next weeks, I don't think I would see Sang Hoon again.

I'm not familiar with Ong Seong Wu because I'm not a Wanna One fan but he's surprisingly good. I love Kim Hyang Gi too, she's such a talented young actress and have been a fan since her Two World roles. Shin Seung Ho is also a new face for me. I'm really liking the three leads so far. It's definitely an emotional roller coaster ride, looking forward to future episodes.

It will be interesting seeing him and the other newcomer alongside rock star veteran youth Kim Hyangi in a jTBC major time slot! That is a lot of pressure! The writer has a slew of excellent works whereas, much like the two young men beside Hyangi, the director's resume seems pretty tiny-and the direction of Hip Hop School lacked in many ways. I hope they make it work, challenges and all, if only for my selfish desire for great kdramas!
