12 boys and girls gather at an abandoned hospital to die for various different reasons. There, they find the body of a dead boy. The 12 boys and girl attempt to find the person who killed the boy. During their search, the reasons why they want to die are revealed.

I want to make a case for the third one - Watch it with an open mind and you won't regret it!

With every Asian movie these days dealing with revenge, gore, and sad endings, it's refreshing to see a movie take on a relevant social dilemma and not butcher it for the sake of addressing the topic. 12 Suicidal Children does a clever and tactful way of delivering a beautiful message - There's more to life than what you're faced with now. If it were down it, you wouldn't want anyone else to take their lives like you intend to.

Japanese movies, in general, have a weird way of expressing deep emotions. It often comes across as forced dramaticism. But if you've watched enough of them, you'll start to realize how different their cultures are from western ones, and to watch these socio-cultural movies through the eyes of a Hollywood viewer is stupid.

The movie does a brilliant job building suspense and does justice to the characters in the barely 2 hour movie. Mind you, there are 12 different characters to introduce and develop in that time. Add to that, the mind-bending plot.

After this, I've come to totally disregard IMDB ratings. These are given by either Asian-obsessed children who've never watched such shows or elites that assume they know how to review these movies, yet always fail to provide a cultural context.

My rating - 8.5/10

George Oct 28 2020 6:13 am The movie starts with teenagers gathering in an abandoned hospital in the midst of the city. First of all how do you even gather people that want to end their life? Do you just write a post on Facebook "All ye who seek death, come this way!", hahaha? Other than that the movie is perfect. It has great balance of suspense and comedy. Characters are all different and unique. They are all about the same age as me, so that makes the movie more relatable, although that is very subjective. The one thing i don't like about them is their motivation to kill themselves. It was interesting hearing all of their stories, but people killing themselves over herpes and celebrities is weird. Pretty much 80% of them had no real reason to be there. I understand why those reasons were chosen and that they were absolutely necessary for the plot, but still... All in all i thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie. Great visuals, an interesting plot and good acting all combine to make this amazing movie what it is. I strongly recommend seeing it. Congrats to everyone who worked on it!

I didn't watch it straight because I became so curious that I wanted to be part of the investigation! ? haha so I kept going back here and there before I proceed for more. I jotted details and things I thought was suspicious or questionable. (I ended using 2 bond papers lol) Damn I even googled japanese "alphabet" just so I could understand what's on the board ? I had really fun doing this and it's amazing when you're finally finding out who is who. The thrill didn't stop there though. The movie still had more to offer.

This movie speaks volumes and I hope that after watching, those who think that suicide is just stupid will realize and see through it. And to those with the 12, I hope we find each other. Who knows right? Well, no one. I cannot speak for everyone but who knows?

injungim Dec 25 2019 1:35 pm I just watched this and tbh this is very good! The script is really neat with almost no plot hole, they deliver the good value for teens who's about to commit suicide too. This crime/slice of life movie is honestly worth to watch!

Not to mention, the actors acting are all good and Mackenyu is really the eye candy who stole the show.

lumin Oct 03 2019 8:29 am the movie gets me hooked! might be slow paced for some but every minute is interesting which makes you think about – what really happened and life in general. we all may encounter thoughts like them and it makes me glad to see that they want to save each other after knowing their stories. It’s different from other movies
