Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki Staff ©
Elderly woman Kang Sang-Hee lives in Nabeup-ri, Jeju Island. Her husband Kim Bong-Soo was killed during the Jeju Uprising. Controversy exists in Gangjeong Village, Seogwipo City over the construction of a naval base. Protest banners go up stating "Revengeful spirits of the Jeju Uprising wail," linking the issues of the naval base to the Jeju Uprising back in 1948. The camera then arrives on the front yard of Kang Sang-Hee. She doesn't remember when she started, but she places a sharp iron under her sheets. That's a local custom on Jeju Island when people suffer from nightmares. When can Jeju residents put away their sharp irons?
Notes
