Park Min Dec 08 2023 8:02 pm The first paragraph of the synopsis felt like and turned out to be a big copium moment to whoever wrote it. The first couple of episodes started with a big bang, big sets, big budgets, a few sex scenes here and there, a casual killing for the sake of it, and a god awful laughable open mouth kissing scene. It was obvious they were trying to pull all the strings to attract viewers because none of that lasted shortly after. The cast performance was attractive at first before they turned into generic soulless zombies right after the first half. In fact, the second half in general was a significant downgrade in all regards. It was almost incomparable to the first half. It became as dull as you can imagine without any "character" left in these characters. They stripped every ounce of character from Ji Sung.The trend continued towards the end since it ended abruptly, I refuse to believe this was planned. When zooming out and looking into the drama as a whole, nothing seems to be properly planned from the beginning.

Ciepao Feb 27 2022 6:29 am I didn`t get hooked up on the story of this drama too much. I do like watching historical dramas but this one is just not it for me. The actors and actresses did great, the fighting scenes are good, you can feel the chemistry between the main leads, but somehow I still find it boring. If not because of Na-eun I wouldn't even watch and finish this.

I'll give it a 4.5/10. I think I would give this a higher rating if the episodes would be much more shorter than 35. It took me almost a month just to finish this Korean drama. I wouldn't recommend it for you to watch this.

Tara Young Nov 17 2017 2:15 am I just watched up to episode 8 (and probably will continue). Honestly I watch this because I want to see how the notable historical figures one like King Gongming, Lee Seong-Gye and their respective sides/men doing. The story of Ban-Ya, Ji-Sang, Hae-In, Jung-Geun etc is still also interesting. One that bothers me (and I greatly dislike) is the drama about the parents, Ryun-Gae and Young-Ji. Ryun-Gae is just the typical evil, seductive and manipulative who held respectable position and power but I think she is kinda bland, aside from her manipulative nature, I feel like she is just establish as the evil lady that we'll love to hate her but trying too hard imo. What's up with her constantly slapping her minions whenever they failed that's very annoying I think she's just trying to be Mishil 2.0 from "Queen Seondok 2009 (MBC)" by being ruthless and seductive, but Mishil's ruthless actions weren't overly done like Ryun-Gae imo (the scene when Mishil ordered the guard to whip the slave or when she finally killed a random man/supernumerary with a sword, and her (wicked)smiles). Also when manipulative character like Ryun-Gae might be interesting, her rival Young-Ji is no match to her. She is too soft-hearted (yeah, though I think typical K-Drama rivalry is between good-vs-evil/kind-vs-ruthless instead of gray-vs-gray morality that I love the most) and she is also less cunning and had less power. Honestly I found their clash very boring. I feel like I want to skip any Ryun-Gae's scenes, though I would like to see her downfall but typical character like her rarely have satisfyingly ending, she probably would die by suicide rather than get killed/executed/imprisoned (even if she get imprisoned she likely would poison herself/etc). I still continue watching though, still excited with the story between the fall of Goryeo and the establishment of Joseon depicted in this drama.

Ozzie Santagada Mar 16 2017 11:02 am This series is only passable. The characters look pathitic and there are none who live up to their task. Except Ahn Kil Kang and Lee Jin. Jin Ji Hee is a great actor but not for dramas, but for a romantic character. It was not necessary 35 episodes for this series: with 20 would have been enough and left. There are many repetitions and the series becomes boring and silly. Do not waste time with it. There are better things.

I kept in waiting; it is going to be better. How could you? You are such a great actor... leave that shit Lee me ho He is already making legend of deep blue sea.... So disappointing.....

passing by Dec 04 2015 10:41 pm I was reading the comments to see if this drama is worth watching or not and from nowhere a strange comment jumps up in front of me crying about ugly people and beautiful people... really ? At this era there are still some sick individuals who judge a person by her or his appearance not by merit. Life should be really unsupportable for those who have this sickness.

Beauty is a matter of perspective what you see ugly others may perceive it beautiful and the inverse applies, but the real beauty isn't about looks it's about deeds, if you are full of good deeds if you are humble and forgiving if you don't judge others by their looks then you are a beautiful person. In the opposite side if your deeds are bad and you think you are better than others if you are shallow enough to judge people by their appearance then you are the ugly one.

Ban Ja and Hae In are such good actresses, but in this drama they just don't fit at all...as for ji-sang- his best acting was Kim su Ro. After that protect the boss, royal family- i didn't like at all. He isn't good in this as well. A little disappointed with the star cast!

He's the mastermind in overcoming the most difficult obstacles and cleaning the path for his king. He's like a divine being sent down, the great seer!

DC Jan 08 2014 1:03 am The relationship between Ji Sang and Ban Ya was so disappointing, I was really looking forward to it. They finally reunite after all those long years, still sharing similar feelings. Then moments later she completely doesn't care about him anymore, to pursue her "fate" ... Good thing we still have Hae In, lovely Kim So Yeon, let's see what happens with that.

Magdalena Aug 19 2013 11:42 pm This is a wonderful drama. The story is good and the main characters are great. They are Ji Jin Hee, Ji Sung, Kim So Yeon... The acting of Ji Jin Hee and Ji Sung is marvelous. I love them so much as they are great actors and got best acting in this drama. I like this drama.. The romantic love story of Ji Sang and Hae In is lovely and love chemistry is great. And I am happy that the ending is Happy Ending. It is recommended to watch this drama. This is the great historical drama that you will ever watched.

The ending is a total disappointment, I think it is really hard to have a proper closure especially for documented history.

CiCi Dec 21 2012 8:38 pm As much as I tried to like this drama, I find a few things too confusing to connect to the story due to some of the main characters. I really think even after all this time Lee-Jin should have been kept in her role as Young Ji "The Princess" since she was such a powerful force in the beginning. A little make-up added could have aged her a bit if needed but seeing that others didn't age I don't get the point of her being replaced. Sorry, it still bugs me cuz I think she was the most interesting and prettiest female lead from the start. There's is a saying "don't change horses in the middle of a stream" for a reason. I feel for the actors and actresses here because someone in charge seems to not be not paying attention. Very few of the main characters have not aged, except now the Queen is the only one with graying hair. The King looked no different either but he's dead now so that's a forgone conclusion. The High Priestess and Lee In Im among others look the same from frame one. So, when I see "12 years later", and "five years" later on the screen, it's seems a bit redundant. Anyway, I really like Ji Sung and Ji Jin Hee a lot and they seem to be the most consistent in holding this thing together. My love for Korean Historical dramas keep me hoping for the best.

First of all why would the queen go to visit the Priestess and drink her tea when she knows that the Priestess has been trying to hurt her for a long time now. Then why did no one question the tea?

Secondly a king who is already so paranoid is very unlikely to give all political power to a monk, who looks crazy by the way, just because he predicted that he would have a son. That is a 50% possibility anyway.

This was such a well written drama until now. It takes the power out of writing when the writing becomes only about dramatic effect.

The writing is just audacious. The esoteric references are knowledgable and so interesting. The set designs are very creative and beautiful.

The General is such an amazing character. I hope that Ji Jin Hee receives an award for acting for his portrayal.

I wish they had not made the mother Princess such a harsh character in that she had no qualms in torturing people. Also Ban Ya is quite despicable as an adult. Love the older monk. It was interesting that he said that the younger monk was only extending the corrupt rule. Not surprising that it would be corrupt when one sees what spawned it.

CiCi Nov 09 2012 4:07 pm I really liked this drama at the start but from the episode where Ji Sang and others are grown, it has become confusing. I don't understand why the director or whoever decided to seriously age Ji Sang's mother, who's in prison when the King, Queen, High Priestess, to name a few, all remain the same. Why only change and age her? Also, although I really liked Kim So-Yeon's acting in "Iris", she seems mis-cast here. Her constant pouting and frowning (maybe it's just bad directing) drags down the scenes she's in and she also doesn't really look like a student. There are a lot of characters that keep this intriguing though like Ji Jin-Hee, Ji Sung, and Kang Kyeong-Heon. Lee DaWit and No Young-Hak and Lee Jin also did a great job.

I am hoping this comes together because I love watching Korean Historical dramas.

Watching the Great Seer and JJ Hee acted very well in his part as the chief as well as the general, , 1st time watching his different character in this sageuk dram, much different from his role in Dae Geum & Dong Yi, JJ Hee a very versatile actor, and WoW I love him in this cast..... I am watching episodes 3 now... Good choice of selection as him for this movie...
