Kyung-Mi (Jin Ki-Joo) has a hearing problem. She works as a sign language counselor at a call center. At night, on a street in Seoul, she meets serial killer Do-Sik (Wi Ha-Joon). Kyung-Mi tries to run away from him.

Filming began September, 2019 and finished at the end of 2019.
Movie was originally scheduled for release sometime in the first half of 2020, but the Covid-19 outbreak caused its release date to be postponed.
"Midnight" will be released in Korean theaters and online video platform TVING June, 2021.

She managed to get away from a serial killer even after being hearing impaired, ran barefoot and, also got him caught while the police did absolutely nothing. There was nothing frustrating about her at all.

It has the usual frustrating moments where we criticize the characters for their choice of actions, but if they didn't make bad decisions, there isn't a movie to enjoy. We see how frustrating it is for the hearing impaired to convey their thoughts, and how easily people are duped by the bad guy because the hearing impaired characters can't communicate easily. There is plenty of suspense, and it has a nice surprise ending, which really caps off this movie.

I mean why would you negotiate with the criminal? He could have asked for a back up instead of running and find his sister to the deaf’s house only to find out that she wasnt there?. I did not finish the movie because it was just a plain s t u pidity

There are no one more incompetent than them!!! They should never be police but ironically there are a LOT incompetent people become police like them.

Lay Jan 01 2023 7:03 pm If executed right this could’ve been a great movie. I’ve loved Wi Hajoon in everything I’ve seen him but this was not it. His character is supposed to be a serial killer but it was the most “cartoonish” villain ever, just plain dumb and Sloppy as hell. I mean his killer car had fluorescent lights for goodness sake’s !!! and the clothes rack didn’t even hide all the weapons, he was literally displaying them… and himself for that matter *sigh* Police were dumb af (but what’s new in kdramaland?) Jin Kijoo’s character was also dumb, you literally just showed him your address why the hell would you go to your house and wait for him ? -_- And lastly, half the movie was literally him chasing her all throughout Seoul and Not One Soul Saw Them!!! Ridiculous…

Eula Nov 24 2022 3:23 am I think the protagonists is not just mute but stupid as well. So annoying and frustrating! I get it that she's deaf so she can't use her sense of hearing but common since she has that disability all her life her instinct should be active especially if there's danger. Even if she's busy with whatever she's doing she should be able to sense something's off especially she just experienced something terrible. It's like all of her senses except her sense of sight was not working.

The movie was great though it's just frustrating and annoying to the core. .

A lot of scenes make no sense and not rational like how the police can be so foolish and the people in the street just watched and misunderstood what was happening like idiots, the heroine had a mobile phone most of the time but she never dial 911 or text the police!!!!!!

Wi Ha Joon's acting is great, but Jin Ki Joo really nailed the role. Gil Hae Yeon too. I thought her acting in Beyond Evil was superb, but this one too.

I was not aware that jin ki joo could act ike this as if he really can't talk and hear.

I felt sad when kyung mi begging for help and no one could or would like to understand her. It is so frustrating to see since i have seen in real life how they would like to talk but could not he understood by people.

Wi ha joon is such a superb actor. I have been searching on where can i watch some of his movies and series.... But i must say, he pissed me off in this movie... ? I felt soooo mad at him. He really did great for making people got mad at him. He really deserve to have an award specially when he was shot by the police. I can't imagine my self acting in front of people.

Thank you to the director and staffs that made this possible. Such a great director.

The Big Brother is the most stupid one. I understand that you must save the younger sister but leaving a helpless girl behind is just a no no. . Anyway I enjoyed this movie. Might rewatch it again...

Some people really dont take those with disabilities with proper help to normal things. And that's what make me sad. Espexially when she ran in Hongdae? With plenty of people? No one even helped her ( Spolier alert) And thats what frustrated me, rheir world is really difficult, and we should help ghem once we encounter them in our life. Love you all.

I just love movies like this, not only the plot is beautiful but this movie is also heart-warming and opened my eyes to those with hearing disabilities, their world is so difficult ;-; But still, what I love the most is its my first time I watched Kijoon and I love her acting, I look forward to more projects. I'm glad to see my fave actors Hyeyoon and Hajoon in one movie ♡ Kudos to the director and writer of this movie. One of the movies I will never forget ♡ 100/100

Kyung-mi, the deaf/mute girl, is smart n independent, yet she is rendered helpless in a "hearing able" but listening-handicapped world. The police lack patience/consideration to communicate with/listen to the mute girl. They don't even make the effort to understand her. When she almost got away from the pursuer, the off-duty soldiers captured her n handed her back to the serial killer. Yet she is in touch with her humanity... She wouldn't abandon the wounded victim

matchagal Oct 20 2021 8:08 am Okay. I like the pacing,the acting and the actors. Jin Kijoo's acting was superb! It's frustrating yes, but it makes sense. A deaf mother and daughter being a target of serial killer chase is really difficult and they remained strong to keep themselves alive. They are not stupid,they are physically challenged. They couldn't tell the police immediately because guys there wasn't paper and pen outside the station. Since this was a good thriller,I agree that it would be great if there were more victims. Lol. But overall 8/10. Btw, Kijoo and Hajoon has the chemistry when they were so close on screen. I wish they'll be offered romcom together someday.

Just a movie to casually watch without much expectations of it being good and something to pass time. Acting was good, everyone portrayed their character well. The entire movie I kept thinking how hot Wi Ha Joon is....... :’)

You'll just be frustrated with the characters', especially the female lead stupidity. If you don't want to watch a movie where there's excessive stupidity, then don't watch this movie.

Frustration of why the character don't make better choices. Frustration of the character that is too nice when there is a serial killer. She is too nice towards everyone even when she was hunt by a serial killer a few moment ago. If it was me, I'd be wary of everyone, even the police. In the scene where they all were at the police station and the killer had a fight with the brother of the victim, I wish she would have slap the polices to their sense. I know that they cannot communicate easily because of their disability, but man, there's something that we call pen and paper. They could've just easily take those and write the full situation for the police to understand.

I disagree with the plot that because the main protagonists (mother and daughter) were both mute people, you will drag the story because of the consequences of their “unrealistic” decisions/actions. Nah. The main protagonists deserves better!

rena ahmed Sep 22 2021 9:06 pm the main thing i took from this movie is that the police are useless, how u gon let a man go after he almost killed someone in the damn police station, and why is it that just cuz the girl and mom can't speak they don't matter ???? they were literally treated like kids the entire movie just cuz they are death like ummmmmm. but anyways i only watched the movie to look at the handsome Wi Ha-Joon he is just so fine first squid game now this ugh! he needs a romance drama or movie. i did love this would rate it a 8/10 great acting and love the ending.

It's funny if you first watch squid game and to this, u will not hate ji hun hahahaha. I only look at his face and acting. If its not for him, i will not watch this movie. I'm so tired of them running and running. And there is no back story why he became a psychopath. 5/10 for the story but 9/10 for their acting

Biebo Sep 02 2021 8:21 am I get why many ppl think this is not that great of a movie but coming from what most of them said that the police looks stupid, ppl around acts stupid, some may think that no one will act like that in real life but this movie just emphasizes that anyone, no matter where you are even in your house, you can't guarantee your safety that even in a public place and it's clearly visible that you are in danger if there is no brave soul who would take the risk to help you and they just get scared to be involved and endanger themselves, then there's really no one who's gonna help you. That's why I think this movie is not that bad it's just you have to open up your mind and think with different perspectives to understand the message.

heidi Sep 01 2021 7:30 pm personally i really enjoyed this movie, there is some unrealistic scenes; yes. however hajoons acting just made it so much more interesting & he did such an amazing job with this role. kijoo also did a great job with her role. overall i think everyone should give this movie a go because you’ll either like it or you don’t! it kept me on my toes throughout the whole movie and i honestly didn’t know how it was going to end. the plot was suspenseful, action packed and very interesting and i’d rate it 8/10

Feel like the police just Park Hoon.. And the people around looks so stupid because how can they just standing there do nothing while the victim was bleeding.. I'm so angry and feeling stupid. The plot good but the suspect just too powerful and that makes me angry.. Overall 7/10 good! <3
