In 1945, after the end of Word War II, Hatao Yamamoto (Kazunari Ninomiya) finds himself in a concentration camp in Sibera, Russia. He keeps telling his fellow Japanese prisoners "Don't give up hope. The day will come when we can go back to Japan." Hatao Yamamoto believes firmly he will return to Japan someday and see his wife Mojimi Yamamoto (Keiko Kitagawa) and their 4 children. 8 years later, Hatao Yamamoto receives a postcard from his wife Mojimi Yamamoto. The postcard states "We are waiting for you to come back." Hatao Yamamoto can't help shedding tears, while thinking of his wife raising their 4 children alone. Meanwhile, Hatao Yamamoto's health is deteriorating rapidly.

- Based on non-fiction novel "Lageri kara Kita Isho" by Jun Henmi (published 1989 by Bungeishunju). The novel is based on the life of Hatao Yamamoto (1908 to 1954).
