Sherlock (Yuko Takeuchi) has a peculiar character flaw. She does not open her heart to strangers. She is Japanese, but was born in Britain. She now works as an investigation consultant for the police department. Wato Tachibana (Shihori Kanjiya) is an excellent surgeon and is guided by the principal of justice. Sherlock and Wato Tachibana get to know each other through a case and begin to rely on each other.

A fan from the UK Sep 30 2020 8:04 pm I had not heard of Miss Sherlock until Yuko-san's tragic death was announced on the news; may she rest in peace. Without knowing what to expect, I was surprised and delighted to have found a new, albeit, short series. Yuko-san is an excellent Sherlock and I completely agree that she carried the show - if only it could have been longer!

Unlike some others, I rather liked Wato's character and had the show been longer, Shihori-san would no doubt have done her even more justice, which I think she did do within the confines of the canvas given by the producers. She is the polite but resilient contrast to the strong individualistic character portrayed so well by Yuko-san, and that's alot of why the show works.

And who doesn't like Mrs Hudson (Ran-san) who provided comic yet insightful comments, and the police department duo, where had the show been longer, the banter between Sherlock and Tomoyo would be even more memorable (as well as Tomoyo's long suffering admin role under Reimon). Did I forget to mention various other eye candy characters (Moriya) and the therapist, who just keeps on giving?

Of course there some weak points to the plot ( the lack of phone tracing being one rolling-eye moment) and if you can look past that, the fact that both leads were female, and set within Japan was, I think, a real fresh take on the classic, with their snipes at breakfast and other interactions really demonstrating the Sherlock-Watson bond in a uniquely Japanese and female way that I enjoyed watching as a viewer. The show also alluded to some of the darker aspects which I shan't spoil, but the thought of it is infinitely more scary than just some guy with a knife, especially in light of recent incidents including Yuko-san's own death, and indirectly highlighting the importance of mental health and a (good) support network.

So whilst I'm sad that there won't be more, I am glad that the producers did make the series, so that we got to see Yuko-san's talent (and others too) and hope others will make time to watch it.

KYT Mar 09 2020 6:36 pm A fascinating Japanese take on the BBC Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch. The actress playing Sherlock is fantastic, I loved the smirks and quirks she brought to it. Watson (Wato) is a bit too naive, bland and weak though. Not sure if it's how the character was written or the actress, but she is the only slightly weak link. Yuko Takeuchi really carried this series. I hope we get another season. Though it seems unlikely as Yuko Takeuchi recently got married and had a baby. Who knows if she will come back to acting at all.

Manuel Aug 11 2019 9:15 am I largely prefer the 'classic sherlock' - the one in older days England/London riding a dilligence instead of driving a car... But I know very well there are quite good adaptations of the genre (like 'Elementary'). So I don't bother much if a modern day version is placed somewhere else than England, or if the main lead is female etc.

Having said this: I care a lot about 'is the plot interesting', 'is the acting good' etc questions.

To be honest - if you look for light entertainment, this 'Miss Sherlock' is good enough (the actress playing Sherlock is doing a quite good job - honestly). BUT: The plots are VERY EASY to look through (they also have few suspects eacht time)... and the actress playing Wato (obviously Dr. Watson), although she is a good actress (she can show this as accountant solving crimes in Yabe Kenzos 1st season along with actor Suzuki Kosuke) sadly can't show her potential. Wato is extremely naiv... rather displayed quite silly. And towards the end of that series, he appears INCREDIBLY STUPID - up to an almost unbearable extent. She will get valuable hints pretty much as a 'hand-out', but she still can't figure out something must be at miss...

If you get 'pissed-off' by a dull display of a Dr. Watson, better don't watch it!

Shreynnie Apr 06 2019 5:51 am Please watch this show as its really amazing and totally on later with bbc's Sherlock series for sure. The plot twists are so intriguing that they keep you hooked till the end. You totally will fall for the female Sherlock's eccentricity for sure as its really entertaining to watch too. The side characters are on point to as I enjoy Sherlock and Shibata's bickering way too much. Then our Wato (Watson) is played well too. The interactions between Sherlock and Wato were the best and the cases will never ever let you down! You have to watch this show for sure :) and we need a season 2

Anyway I love how Yuko Takeuchi portrayed Sherlock but I wish wato's role could leave more strong impact instead of following sherlock around and connecting the case's dot without her realisation when she is actually a doctor, I wish I could see more of useful wato yet I admit she is a a contra to sherlock where she fit in perfectly in sherlock's flaws.

Ali n Sep 10 2018 12:12 pm I am still unsure of how i feel about this series. The main characters are quite lovable and have good chemistry, but i notice that the Cases and culprits/villains are very comic; they can easily be a chapter straight out of detective mangas like Detective Conan, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, or Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbou. It

Admittedly I am curious for the second season. I'll be keeping an eye out for it.

Amyus Aug 07 2018 10:36 am Disappointing. Casting Holmes & Watson as women brought nothing new or interesting to the story. Whilst the actresses did what they could with rather lacklustre dialogue and forced humour (I do feel sorry for them), the overall production was mediocre at best. I watched all 8 episodes in the hope of seeing some character development and a unique, female angle being explored, but feel that this was sadly lacking. I won't bother with the next season. There are some characters that should never be cast as the opposite gender. Good heavens, whatever next - a male Miss (Mr) Marple? A female Poirot?

Teja Jun 18 2018 10:17 am If I were to compare Yuko Takeuchi's Sherlock to other Sherlock versions, I think she resembles more to Cumberbatch's version in terms of wackiness.

Hope they will make a second season of this, if possible.

It is an interesting adaptation because holmes and watson are kinda different from the other adaptation, but they still have incredible chemistry and you can't help but love them. The acting in this show is superb and Yuko Takeuchi really is amazing as Sherlock. Shihori Kanjiya is really a lovable Watson. The other cast members are also great.

Lina Jun 14 2018 5:44 pm The murder mysteries are my favorite because the suspense and the solving of the crime is the best part. The humor in this is funny and cute. I love the stories are never boring and always interesting and different each time. Truly a great script and also amazing actors! I really enjoy the cast from main characters to supporting and each episodes different character roles. This is a really good jdrama I hope more people watch!

Sabrina Feb 20 2018 11:28 am God I've watched EVERY versions of Sherlock Holmes movies & series, and I cant wait to watch this one!!!!! Yuko Takeuchi as Holmes is a great idea, but it'd PERFECT if they find an actor as Holmes and put Takeuchi as Watson instead❤
