A wealthy family in Los Angeles experiences a series of bizarre supernatural events. The family contacts famous young shamans Hwa-Rim (Kim Go-Eun) and Bong-Gil (Lee Do-Hyun). After investigating, Hwa-Rim realizes that these events are related to the family's ancestor. Hwa-Rim asks Feng Shui export Sang-Deok (Choi Min-Sik) and undertaker Young-Geun (Yu Hae-Jin) for help. They find the family’s ancestor's grave in a remote South Korean village and dig up the grave.

cheryl Apr 30 2026 6:13 pm I found this movie very interesting from the standpoint of the writer/director's message around trauma, both to a family and a country. I though Kim Go-Eun was fantastic and her shamanic ritual scene had me memorized and the whole cast was superior. I enjoyed it so much, I have watched it a few times. If you enjoy supernatural stories, you might enjoy this one.

Thursday Mar 27 2026 7:40 am I've seen him in Melancholia, The Glory, Prison Playbook, Hotel del Luna, and now The Good Bad Mother. The depth and range of his acting is showcased in TGBM. I love his mischievous smile, the way he relates with his mom and the twins!! More power to you, LDHi I'm only in episode 4 of TGBM. Will post again after i finish it!

Mr.iraq Apr 10 2025 12:02 am Yu hae jen is one of my favorite k actors i thin his name is to big for the role he is playing being a side man for Legendary actor like choi min sik is absolutely fine but the role wasn't made for him , i enjoyed the movie alot i think its amazing..

Chiaki Nov 16 2024 4:23 am It was scary, I was scared. I was on the edge of my seat, I love how they reveal a twist after twist. It was unpredictable until it's not scary to me anymore.

It's also about nationalism, while Avengers have aliens from space as their enemy, these shamans, feng-shui expert & undertaker have a vindictive & traitor ancestor + samurai ghost as their enemy.

At least, you can fight the colonizer in ghost form, can't you, grandpa?

It has moral values & it dampened my mood (-_-)

love-it Nov 01 2024 11:11 pm and i thought we are almost done after granpa got cremated. Then the geomancer came back to the grave site and found another coffin underneath the previous one. i checked the time passed by watching the flick, it was only less than half way and i know things about to go bad, really bad. That sinking feeling, though, lol.... but then i expected too much. which was my bad habit. All actors delivered fully. For non-koreans, really need some look around a bit regarding historical, mithological matters after the first view. Then go for second round....The Far East aka the orient wow me good.

Well, to be honest I saw a few comments that the movie is okay but nothing special so I went to watch it without any high expectations. But I was wrong. The plot was interesting, the folklore elements of korean culture was brilliant and made the movie. Casting was also on point. I love Kim Go-Eun here, she’s a strong female lead who’s smart and have courage to do what have to be done. Her eyes are so expressive, she can say everything just with that eyes. I thought Do-Hyun’s role is bigger but it doesn’t bother me because overall it was interesting. I was sitting for over 2 hours and watching without any moment of boredom or distraction because I want to know what happen next. I was truly involved and they gain my attention especially for the first 60 minutes of film (it was a pure gold). The rest was good but the first part is on another level. I praise the movie for music and mysterious climate mixed with a dose of craziness.

So if you’re wondering whether to watch the movie or not I recommend it. It won’t be a waste of time, even if you don’t like it as much as I do. Ofc, if you like thriller/horror movies full of spirits and vicious souls. If you don’t like the ghost motive and unnatural stories it’s rather not for you.

thrillme Aug 23 2024 1:59 am It's a sloppy fictional way of trying to solve the bitter possessive remnant spirit behind the evils of the japanese empire. There's better ways to handle that in the supreme court of God that a shaman doesn't have legal right to handle since they're on the wrong side of the spiritual spectrum. It's just a fictional story with powerless ritual that "shouldn't" be taken seriously or imitated.

bella Jul 24 2024 1:49 am after watching this movie, my mind were going around these intense story of how rich family family turned into great nation korea problems where pro japanese has done something in the past. i watch this movie at night and in my dream i was shaman and was casting spells and doing shaman rituals. thats how impactful the movie it was.

Cheryl Jun 27 2024 6:48 am This movie was beyond my expectation as I did not realize the deeper story that is being told about the trauma inflicted on the Korean's by the Japanese during world war II. There is so much going on in this story and I love plots like this, that are complex and interesting. Kim Go Eun does an amazing job and the cast overall is so good. There is a subtly to the acting that adds impact to the storyline as ghost stories can be over played and campy. I enjoyed this movie for many reasons, the history, the insight into shamanism and the great acting. I would highly recommend if you like history or a good supernatural story.

xnana May 03 2024 11:25 am Just finished watching... Most comments says it has not exceeded the horror things.. I believe Exhuma is not a horror film but a thriller exorcism... I don't have expectations for this movie so while watching I think it's okay.. I was watching at night, it gets me nervous especially when u hear the trees outdoor swaying by the wind.. it creeps me out to the point that I am scared to go out and lock the door >< I think it's worth the 2hours. I just don't feel like the ending.. I have expected Go Eun to lead the closing but yah it's still good tho. 10/10 I didn't get boring tho

The movie is good, however, the plot is quite peculiar, which I can't tell if it's a good thing or not... My expectations were very high, and maybe that's why it felt a bit bland for me towards the end of the movie... From the trailer and all, I had such a hope that this movie will be on the level of Na Hong Jin's horrors (The Wailing, The Medium)... But, I don't this is as good as Na Hong Jin's horror movies

Anyways, this is still better than 80-90% of horror movies nowadays which has nothing to offer but jumpscares... I rate this 8/10

Ryunami May 01 2024 7:37 am Exhuma tells us how the Japanese Military buried their conquest's relic in Korea in order to keep their hold over the land they conquered forever. A kitsune/Japanese fox monk embedded a katana inside a decapitated samurai's body, turning the samurai into a ghoul and Ji-yong's grandfather's grave serving as a cover for the relic. The relic is a sword embedded in the ghoul's body.

This reminds me of the old folks' story about why, unlike the British, the Japanese Military (which invaded our country during World War Two and chased out the British colonial for a while) never left behind a cemetery or a graveyard of their soldiers in our country. It is believed that their dead soldiers were never buried in a grave; they were cremated and their ashes and bones were buried inside the buildings where the Japanese stationed their soldiers while occupying our country. After the war ended, scary tales about the ghost of Japanese soldiers in schools, police headquarters, prisons, fortresses, occupied palaces and government offices are heard even till these days. Their presence has never left the countries they once occupied even after they lost in WW2 for almost 80 years ago.

April Apr 27 2024 6:12 am I've seen Revenant (KDrama with 12 eps) so It's pretty clear that I have the patience to watch Exhuma. They have similarity in plotlines, but since Exhuma is kind of a big deal now in SoKor, I was kinda expecting something big of a plot twist. But nope, maybe that's the reason why some comments here, even in other review platforms, laments how boring it is. For me, it's okay. Simply because I have high expectations and I have something to compare to.

Am a huge fan of horror especially this kind of horror. And from what I can say is that the korean filming industry is really getting good at producing horror movies. Am impressed.

I actually find myself so on edge at every scene nd every scene made me excited as to what would happen next. After so many months I could watch such a good thriller/horror movie without any jumpscares.

Would only recommend to you if you're a fan of such things. Tbh this movie exceeded my expectations it was actually better than i thought it would be. So do not read comments before watching, that's actually one advice. Nd yes watching the movie in one sit is so much better.

The worse horror movie I have ever seen. I don't understand why this movie can reach million of audience to watched it. It was not scared at all And the plot is suck , just about samurai japanese from the past

Hana Apr 12 2024 1:12 am I'm fighting with my self just to watch this movie. I'm not a fan of horror/occult or thriller movie but I watched this movie. Midnight theater. After that I wish to watch it again but it's already taken down because I watched in at the last week of show. I can say that, I really like this movie. Just like Yoo Hai Jin said in an interview with na PD, this movie doesn't have jumpscare and yes, that's right.

Lila Mar 18 2024 8:11 pm I know it's early but this is definitely going to be my top 10 movies of 2024. The quality of the production, the scoring, the plots, and the top notch casts already speaks for itself. It explores the concept of shamanism and feng shui at the beginning, and then all the terror started to take over.

If you think this movie is going to have a lot of jumpscares, you are wrong. The horror in this movie is depicted by the mix of myth and history of Japan colonialism in Korea, which become a great trauma for all of Korean. The way it started slow and then after the 3rd part it escalated so quickly, leave no room for the viewers to take a break from all the terror and horror that present time by time.

Rating: shamanism 4/5, terror 4/5, cursed burial site 5/5, the giant ghost 50/5, and bong-gil is def 100/5 cause that man is so beautiful hahaha Overall i gave this movie a solid 4/5, great!!!!

LDH Fan Mar 15 2024 1:53 am Top quality production, enjoyable plot & strong cast of 4 main characters. Lee Do-Hyun slays Bong-Gil amazingly in his debut movie with coolness in looks, handling the ritual drum, scripture chanting & etc. He is so natural in acting, especially slurping his food & effortlessly spewing Japenese language when he is being possessed. The wonder is he had to juggle his debut movie with few other ongoing shootings - The Glory, The Good Bad Mother & Death's Game back then. Catch Exhuma in cinemas for better sound & visual effect if u could.

twsbypledis Mar 03 2024 1:02 am Exhuma (pamyo) is one of best Korean horror movie in Q1. The synopsis is not giving away anything and the plot is not just that but there’s many layers from myths to historical aspect, kinda make sense why the family have generational bizarre events. Everyone acting is amazing, i love kim go-eun so much and hope she could work in this kind of theme again. I respect Lee do-hyun he acted on Exhuma at the time he acted on 2 others drama, and he always delivers. Choi minsik characters is kinda cute grandpa, like have a comedic touch in between serious and tense atmosphere. Yoo haejin also good, like we always know he’s really good at acting.

The horror Exhuma shows is the feeling of terror of such an illogical being and the helplessness of human when they facing thing they couldn’t beat. 9/10 from me, please watch if your country have it on cinema.
