Kim Hae-Il (Kim Nam-Gil) is a hot-tempered Catholic priest with a burning sense of justice. He heads to Busan to pursue a drug case which originated in Gudam-district, Seoul. Helping him in his pursuit are Prosecutor Park Kyung-Sun (Lee Ha-Nee), Detective Gu Dae-Young (Kim Sung-Kyun) from Gudam Police Station, and Detective Gu Ja-Young (Bibi) from Busan.

KERivers Jun 02 2026 1:40 am Why is it that the fans that leave comments are those who want to speak negatively about a sequel. I personally loved the 2nd season because it was not a repeat of season 1. There were more twists and turns in the 2nd season and the comedy was more spontaneous. All of the characters were able to develop their own personalities which I totally appreciate as a book reader. It was almost like each episode was a chapter in a book that allowed character growth and backstories which didn’t really happen in season 1. I also appreciate the writers blend of Christianity into the characters everyday life challenges and roadblocks. It’s hard to strike a balance as a writer to not get to down in the weeds of Catholicism. It reminded me of the writing in “Stigmata”. Working in the Bellators, Comes, and Fautors into the storyline was genious. I also love the cross dressing undercover work that went on in the 2nd season. I wish there had been more in Season 1. I’m a fan of both Kim Nam-Gil and Lee Hanee and love how you worked in the musical numbers since a lot of the cast has just beautiful voices. Thank you for your hard work on bringing us Season 2 and I’m praying for a Season 3 so that the cast can get together again as a family and have a lot of fun. Bless you Lee Myoung-woo and Park Jae-beom. The Fiery Priest 3 gives me inspiration and courage to continue fighting the injustices and inequalities here in the USA.

noname May 23 2026 6:19 am Basically has similar opinion with others' for the season 2. Almost can't believe it was written by the same writer of the season 1. I thought the writer must be drunk when writing the script. Just felt that the story was all over the place.

Now, I'm surprised that the season 2 actually wasn't directed by the director of season 1 (Lee Myung Woo). In his other dramas like Backstreet Rookie, One Ordinary Day, or Boyhood, he was usually introduced as the director of Fiery Priest. So surprised that he dropped out of the season 2, and only the 2nd director of the season 1 directed all episodes of the Fiery Priest season 2.

thepianorockstar Feb 01 2026 5:04 am Season 2 is more comical than Season 1. They also made it very musical. Lol. My reaction every time it happens is like, "Wow! So out of this world!" So epic.xD As a Catholic and have friends who are also from the seminary and other congregations, I'd say that somehow, how they've shown the relationships with seminarians and priests are somewhat accurate. Also, I agree, and somehow prefer the atmosphere and plot of Season 1 for it is somehow more realistic than Season 2. Was also hoping , while they were in court, there would be discovered evidence like that in Season 1; the other frozen bodies confessed by the others caught from the gangs, or the drugship or the drugs itself, exposing the relationship of Prosecutor Nam and Kim Hongsik. Was also wondering what happened to Detective Gu Jayeong's teammates. Lastly, I was looking forward to Songsak speaking Lao to Hongsik. Lol.

I love the confession part of Sister Martha in Season 2. I was also looking forward to the musical auditions, like, what was it for? Was hoping they'd perform for the elderly in Gudam. Lol. Also, Kim Namgil sings well, and those who sang in the Nam Duhin, Go to Hell.

Please have Season 3!! Rooting for you all! May there be a comeback of Ryong from Season 1 and Detective Seo too!

Mariz Sep 02 2025 4:16 pm I really love this series especially the 1st season, all actors and actresses were great, they've always delivered the needed acting. But I must say, this 2nd season feels really forced and exaggerated comedy unlike the 1st season. I get that a lot of people really loved the 1st season therefore they came up with the 2nd season. But it's also kind of disappointing in a way because all of us had waited for it but it's not giving its whole potential of what it could have been. There was a lot of room for improvements as well as better storyline, so I'm not really sure as to what happened. They did their best but it's still lacking at some point. Although, they have hinted another season at the end of the last episode so hopefully, it would be much better than the 2nd season, as well as well written for each characters. I feel like they went all over the comedy side for this 2nd season so it kind of went astray of the original storyline. Please make the next season better.

mia May 02 2025 7:38 am so we had to wait 5 years for the second season only to get a slopy job...i liked fiery prest season one. it had some forced comedy here and there but was balanced out with tougching sad moments and moal life lessons about the conficliting choices they had to make. second season relied completly only on slapstick forced comedy to the point that these characters who once had depth and inner moral conflict became complete cartoon charicatures for the sake of comedy. not to mention the misplaced cast: Sung Joon as a drug lord will never be convicing to me, i love BiBi but i am sad they replaced the previous actress she was much better, and what the hell did they do to Kim Won Hae role, man - they ruined him too. this new character Ko Martha is absolutely useless and doesn't belong in the story at all just a waste of time. and the plot is soo messy and poorly wirtten, even the dangerous situations look extremly unbeliveble. i am not surpised this second season was soo short compared to the prievous, it was much lower quality. what a shame. they took 5 years to return with this weak messy story. fans who waited so long deserved better. what a deep dissapointment.

Of all the times KNG declined second seasons or sequels, WHY did he do this one? Did he not read the script? I just can't. I have to really hate something to not finish it. I couldn't even bear to watch my All-Time Favorite SK actor - because he just could not save this mess.

It was a hit and successful but i think this season got too much of humour and funny scene. there was not even a single scene that had a serious mode, even in a very critical / thriller / sad scene.

season 2 was enjoyable but season 1 was more more enjoyable and realistic.

if i were to rate, i would rate 6.5 out of 10.

In comparison, in season 1, viewers likely laugh throughout the series. hopefully season 3 will be better, if they plan in.

Father Kim Hae-il, once a fierce and unpredictable force driven by deep anger and conviction, is now a caricature of himself. His righteous fury turned into over-the-top antics that feel more like a parody of his former self. His outbursts, which used to be raw and intense, now feel scripted and exaggerated, robbing the character of the weight he once carried. The wildest and most charismatic character from season 1, Kim Won Hae’s Russian gang leader is suddenly the most rational and reasonable person in the show, making more sense than the actual leads. The show no longer builds tension naturally but instead relies on slapstick and absurd misunderstandings, making what were once sharp conflicts feel like forced comedy. Watching season 2 feels like seeing a sharp, well-crafted story get watered down into something safe, lazy, and unrecognizable.

Mary Mar 02 2025 2:54 am 5 episodes into the series, I am unable to tolerate this anymore. Season one was of top quality and everything was so good. From the mail leads, to the villains to the supporting cast, storyline etc., But this one seems to be a parody version of season one. The comedy is over the top and cheap, the villains are not convincing, and dear Sung Joon, you're too sweet to convince me to be a drug lord. Fiery priest is more like a Crazy priest. I used to have a lot of respect on the priest character, but here I only see him like some retard. There are too many unwanted scenes, in the name of comedy. Like the motorcyle scene where Yohan and Songsak are coming to Busan, the priest dodging the dean every night and behaving like a naughty teenager in those scenes, and auntie-neice-uncle comedy between the lady detective and Guidance Daeyoung, etc.,

I wish I can unsee this series and just live with all the beautiful memories from season one. I'm sorry guys, the Busan dialect is also super crazy. I hate it. After watching Reply 1997 series, I was crazy about Busan and Busan dialect and had a crush on all idols who came from Busan. But this is not it. Something is just so wrong with all the characters from Busan and I'm stopping this drama with episode 5. I hesitated a lot to start season 1 as it was 20 ep long, but after starting it I binge watched it and there was not even a single boring scene. But this one, I don't know. I find myself forcing myself to watch it. I also started watching Doctor Prisoner which is too good. So I'm stopping season 2 here. Sorry about my long rant guys. But please let me know if season 2 gets interesting after episode 5 and whether it would be worth my time to watch it.

I really tried to enjoy ep by ep hoping the vibe would change, but until the end its the same. What happened? All people in the series seem to have a mental issues/ crazy or what?! nonstop yelling, force comedy that far from funny. The series wont be such a trash if they can be a little bit serious or act normal sometimes! Me watching the series by skip it time to time is already feel "Oh My Goodness this is so bad" i dont know how the actors feel.

I really looking forward for the season 2 because season 1 is superb, but seems this times season 2 there are a lot of force comedy. Hopefully the director/cast/script writer rewatch back season 1. The cast is good just maybe finding back the chemistry and review back the script. Acting in season 1 seems more smooth and more natural in their comedy. Season 2 seems they try so hard to be funny. What happened with Season 2? The comedy wasn't vibing, the plot became absurd, the characters felt forced. I'm at episode 4 and I'm barely holding on. I'm on the verge of dropping this.

Don't get me wrong, it was funny but most of the time it feels too forced. Like the writers have no idea what to write so they just cover it with senseless comedy.

TBH Kim Hong Sik (Sung Joon) saved this season. I kept waiting for his scenes every episode. I felt like his character has so much potential for more. Why he fell for Park Kyung Sun, is it related to his mother since PKS looks like his mom. Writers could have made him regret his wrongdoings, fight for justice and pay for his sins. Ugghhhh there's just so many things that we missed.

Now I'm waiting for Sung Joon's next project....

I so adore her role in TWOE. I was so eager to start this and BiBi made it more exciting to do so. I hope I enjoy this as much as I did the first season. Will be back here after.

The 1st one got just nice funny moment and doesn't seem like they forcing them self to be funny. However, this 2nd season make me feel a little bit annoying seeing those funny forcing moment despite they got good actor & actress for this drama at some scene. Overall I still enjoyed it but hopefully on 3rd season they can make their 1st season as their reference because seriously 1st season got so much fun watching it. Please still maintain the main casts because they are so good and hopefully can include Eun moon suk. His interaction with ahn chang hwan is so naturally funny. Please keep the OST of this drama as well. It just That Good. It does represent Kim Hae Il well. Keep the justice and spread the goodness.

i watched as much as i could bear because KNG is my favorite actor. I mean - KNG has skipped second installments of other shows (i.e., Pirates) WHY?

Everything that was good in Season 1, you've ruined it with overtop, annoying actors who did a rubbish job. The whole production team who thought this was going to be a good series should all be fired. What a disgrace this series was, I'd rather watch paint dry.

The jokes were so hard to watch. The storyline is all over the place. I did not enjoy one single bit. There's simply no heart in this writing, just plain milking the success of S1. Do not watch this. Complete waste of time!!!

Han Dec 27 2024 4:19 pm S2 is just a time-pass watch, with no comparison to S1. The story in S2 falls flat. S1 had 20 episodes filled with twists and a captivating cat-and-mouse game, whereas S2 only has 12 episodes. If you remove the unnecessary comedy, the story could easily wrap up in just two episodes.

It feels like the characters were fed into ChatGPT, which then generated a flat and uninspiring story. I can’t believe this came from the same team that gave us intelligent and funny dramas like Good Manager and Vincenzo.

Kim Hae Il has nothing similar with himself in the first season. He acts like a 15 years old lunatic. He was an agent working against terrorists and what not....and he acts like a chicken in some situations. I believed that they gave us everything stupid possible in the series and at least we will have some decent last two episodes... then I watched 11th episode and saw how they got rid of this whole hostage situation with prosecutor Park....it couldn't be more silly and stupid. Are we some joke? Can't believe the high ratings Koreans give these series. They want to tell me that they enjoy this nonesense? No hate but I'm so disappointed.

I love Chun Seob's and his partner's (asianwiki hasn't listed him here yet as of today) characters so much they're so loyal and always stood out whenever they came on the screen! Am i the only one? It doesn't make sense at all to kill him ?????????

hihi Dec 19 2024 11:16 am Part 2 seems more entertaining. KNG is not as cool as part 1. There is more humor but the drama is not as intense as before. The fighting scenes are still very exciting. I feel that because part 1 has exploited all the characters, part 2 seems to be created to continue the success and end the story. The funny juggling scenes of the police and the priest seem a bit too much and silly to try to make the audience laugh. Bibi is really too beautiful. I like the way Honey Lee portrays her character. Crazy, passionate, stubborn in pursuing the goal to the end. KNG is still very attractive and charming even though he only wears a black cloak for 30 episodes. The supporting characters seem to be more obscure because part 2 added a new character line. I am not trying to compare the 2 parts but that is a common motif of dramas that have sequels. Same with Taxi Driver.

Yes,the storyline, revenge plot of S1 is better than S2. But I also understand the vibes they set for S2. S2 is more on comedy and unserious. S2 also felt rushed. But overall I am enjoying the scenes and I am happy to see my fave actors having a great time shooting this drama :)

blueeberry Dec 10 2024 3:39 am When i watch the first season with 40 eps i didn't even realize it just went by so fast bcs I really enjoyed it, from all aspects, the revenge plot and the villain in the first season were better, everything seemed make sense, and KNG's acting were very good and his anger were so natural, that's what made it funny and interesting and the addition there's long dragon and songsak story that really helped to raise the atmosphere even more, while in the second season everything felt forced, the revenge plot didn't feel tense, the jokes felt dry, the villains seemed boring, LHN and KSK were sometimes overacted, sometimes i also feel that KNG even looked he's not into kim haeil anymore, they're all were very cringe in some scenes and songsak - yohan they were so unimportant, disappointed I really had no interest in continuing it

The humour seems forced, the whole doppelganger thing is completely unnecessary and not once a call back to the reason why they went on the hunt for the drug dealers in the first place. They seem to have forgotten about the altarboy from the first episodes. Did he die? Is he in a coma? I don’t remember because the filmmakers seem to have forgotten about him too. I do love the cast though and Bibi has been a great addition. The storyline though is severly lacking.

FieryFlop Dec 05 2024 12:32 am Season 2 lacked a deeper sense of purpose for Father Hae Il, unlike Season 1 where he really wanted to take revenge and clear Father Lee Young Jun's name, as he is truly dear to Father Hae Il. And that was where the study began to branch out, including forming friendships, and ultimately, cleaning the city of Gudam from corrupt officials.

But this season seems like Father Hae Il and his team are just meddling with other people's business, without having a deeper meaning to it. Yes, battling a drug cartel is a big mission, but it lacks personal connection to Hae Il and his group. The altar boy's story wasn't even that relevant at all to the story. If I was the writer, I would have just connected a growing drug problem in Gudam or a corrupt official in Gudam connected with a drug cartel Busan. I think that's better given Father Hae Il's love for Gudam. But I am sorry, the story is too slow for me. It became more of a sitcom than a purpose-driven drama.

KNG Dec 04 2024 11:20 am Waited so long for Season 2. Cannot say if I’m slightly disappointed, but definitely Season 1 was better. In season 1, you’ll really feel where Father Kim’s anger is coming from. Its good that Season 2 also has its comedic side, but they are overdoing it. Still looking for the emotional side and wisdom in season 2. I think its true that the writers’ creativity wears off after a good season. Season 1 is still the best for me. Nevertheless, the show is still halfway on Disney+. I hope the series will redeem itself.

rosa Nov 30 2024 3:35 am I agree with most of commenters here. Season 2 lacks of purpose. One thing that made season 1 successful in terms of story, character developments, and even the dynamics between the characters is their purpose to find out who was the real culprit of Father Lee's murder. Purpose is important in any kind of story, and in this season, they seem to forget the real purpose of why they had to find the drug gang go to Busan. In the first 2 and 3 episodes, I thought the real purpose is because of the altar boy, but then they didn't even mention him anymore in the next episodes, even Kim Haeil seems to forget about it (?) It's okay to develop the conflict with adding more characters as victims (such as the murder of old lady), but what about the first 'drive' of the actions here? Was it the altar boy, no? I hope they put some scenes of flashback, at least, or someone sending updates about the boy to Haeil, just to make sure we are still doing this for him. We're already halfway through the story, so I hope it's getting better in the few next episodes.

I also agree about how the comedy seems forced in this season, too many unnecessary silly slapsticks jokes and some of their reactions looks unnatural or too dragged.

Moon Nov 28 2024 8:33 am So far (Im in ep 6) S2 has too many silly slapstick jokes that it comes off unnatural to me. Often times I sighed whenever they dragged the funny scenes for too long. S1 has that too, but the jokes are much more subtle and are not overstaying their welcome. The storyline is good but the drive of other characters felt forced to me as they initially come just bc theyre being left behind by Hae Il, and not exactly bc they care abt Sang Yeon (I know they do, just they seems so mad silly all the times, that it overshadows their motives). It also doesnt help that theres lack of scenes or flashbacks to show Sang Yeon and others moment to really hammer in the gang connection as to further emphasize their reasons to go as far as Busan. Oh the villains tho.. They are solid. The actors done a great job portraying them. The nuance, the actions, their lines just on another level. The prosecutor who doesnt take bribe and all but keep everyone's dirt for him to exploit, the drug dealer boss who seems composed and well-mannered but easily disposed people. They truly one upped the villains in this season.

Overall the casts and story are great, S2 just lacks some charms that S1 has. Really looking forward to how the gang defeat the villains. Specifically hot tempered gang vs cool headed villains

Quinn Nov 27 2024 6:23 pm Season 2 is definitely nowhere near as good as season 1. I’m not quite sure why, considering it’s the same writer, director and cast as season1.

First, season 2 is very disjointed. Season 1 was strongly driven by Priest Kim’s vow to get revenge on the people that killed his mentor and senior priest. This season though has a much weaker plot; Priest Kim and his team are chasing after a drug gang in Busan. But I’m not entirely sure why - I mean there is an old lady who’s a victim of the gang and a kid that Priest Kim knew who seemingly is in a coma due to the drug gang. But both scenarios don’t seem to instill much deep or visceral rage in Priest Kim.

Second, this season has too much weird, cheesy slapstick comedy. It’s used too often and really detracts from the overall story. It also leads to the cast overacting much of the time.

I think that a lot of these second seasons of popular k-dramas that are being released this year like this show along with The Player 2 are proof that second seasons don’t work. They just don’t capture the same magic that made the first seasons so popular in the first place!

Missing touches i.e great lighthearted + clumsy scenes, perfect dedicated OSTs for each scene etc.

But overall, halfway over Season 2 & it's pretty great ?? Not all kdramas that got a S2 can keep up with the quality & expectation of it's S1, but this one does ???

Every week I wait for the episodes, maybe at the end of the year people hope for a better series. but I think to close this year fiery priest 2 is very good. The comedy is not funny but silly. Now I appreciate how there was at least balance in the 1st season. The villains are so annoying. Such a joke! No matter how handsome Nam Gil looks as a priest, even he can't save the series this time. So silly!

Maverick Nov 20 2024 8:28 am The premise for Season 2 is much more shallow unlike Season 1 when the death of Father Lee really guided Kim Hae Il to uncover everything in between. I think their relationship with Sangyeon is not emphasized a lot that is why I think what they are fighting for is not really much of their business.

The first four episodes are a bit bland for me. The disappointment is greater than the excitement I felt knowing there will be Season 2. Hope the next few episodes will create a rivalry now between Kim Hae Il and Kim Hongsik.

Elsy Nov 16 2024 4:37 pm As expected the 1st episode was a lil' slow because of the introduction of the new characters. I really enjoyed the 2nd and 3rd one and again the 4th gave me mixed feelings. The preview of the 5th doesn't seem exciting. I'm really confused. Wasn't a big fan of the 1st season either. That's not my type of series. But because of KNG it ended up growing on me. I revisit so many scenes to watch. For me the biggest problem are the uneccessary comedy scenes. It seems as if they are forced. And the acting on them is cringy and over the top. I didn't understand the Joker scene in the 4th episode, I just skipped it. In the 1st season there were also kind of cheesiness but here some of it doesn't seem alright. Let's hope for the better but they have only 8 episodes to conpensate. I have to lower my expectations.

I believe that Kim Haeil's illness won't kill him rather will make him abandon the priestship and the righteous mission then he will succumb to the secular life and that's how they will wrap up the last season. I definitely feel another style of direction. I hope they don't exceed the goofy and silly scenes. Sometimes they are too over the top for me. Overall, I will make my last review once the series finish.

And when he was giving ceremony in church, it also shows that his vision is blurry, which is one of the symtoms of multiple sclerosis. There is no cure for it, just delay the progress of the illness. This is gonna be the last season, and in gonna cry hard if hae il dies T.T
