Kim Mo-Mi (Lee Han-Byeol) is an ordinary officer worker. When she was a child, she dreamed of performing on a stage, under bright lights. As she has aged, she gotten "ugly," but she is proud of her good looking body. After her workday, and when she is at home, she puts on a mask and streams a live broadcast of herself as Mask Girl. She gets involved in an unexpected case.

Joo Oh-Nam (Ahn Jae-Hong) is Kim Mo-Mi’s colleague at work. He has a complex of about having an ugly appearance. He is a fan of Mask Girl and learns Ko Mo-Mi is actually her. He has a crush on her and becomes involved an unexpected case with Kim Mo-Mi.

Meanwhile, Kim Kyung-Ja (Yum Hye-Ran) is the mother of Joo Oh-Nam. After she divorced, Kim Kyung-Ja raised her son alone. He is the most precious thing in her life. One day, her son goes missing. Kim Kyung-Ja begins to search for his whereabouts.

logitech Dec 26 2024 1:52 am i watch mask girl and the writing up. the character is such poor written. even after so much struggle of the main lead i can't feel pity for her. as first i thought what kind of lady writer story like this. later found it is a male writer so i understand. the main lead lack self confident and kindness for others. people judge her cuz she is ugly and she want to pursue her dance and singing while wearing mask. but why perform adult series. why making herself prey to perverted people? she had crush on team leader (at first it show like she like her due to his kindness which is barely seen), but she was more focus on his looks, six packed and outer layers. she even get jealous of cute girl who try to talk to team leaders. she call her sly and foxy and talk behind her back. even when she caught him having affair with a girl. she like him still. but why the main character is so weak? she was such a hyprocrite, if team leader sleep her, she was ready but if another girl do the same she says bad about it and even tell others about the affair to spread the rumors. (acting innocently) there was another office guy who is older has crush on her and obsess with her. in few episode after many chaos. he went to her house and she let her in and even let her rape, keep the child and later abandon it to mother who she said she have no tie. that mother also, after mask girl loss self confidence and always hostile to her and later keeping the child showing same behaviour but have deep affection? what? people doesn't bond like this in real life and easily forgiven. there was a dailogue with mask girl and her frd who was running away in the car and she said she is pregnant and will give birth to ugly child. even if the child is ugly, i will tell her you are beautiful. what?? isn't mother supposed to be selfless and beauty in the eyes of beholder or mother sees their child cute and beautiful. that means, she is says the older guy is ugly. she crave for attention.

Jim choo May 17 2024 10:46 am One of the best kdrama i watched in 2024. Very well developed character, with a lot of twists. And the main character's background even was pulled until her childhood. I dont recall a lot of movies that actually spin around women like this one. At the end of episode, i gave a big applause. Very highly recommended kdrama.

Nevertheless, this drama showing life lesson; it is important to self love yourself, know your worth, how one bad action/decision can ruin your life/ making your life upside down, how the malfunction family structure can give bad impact to your mental. The message(s) in this drama conveys is perfect.

Yum Hye Ran and Ahn Jae Hong have my highest admiration for their outstanding performances. But the whole series would be much better if they added a few more episodes to explain some ambiguous parts of the plot. They never explain why Momi's mother was so cold to her from the start. Momi should've told Oh Nam's mother that Mimo is her granddaughter. It's also unclear why Momi became so religious by reading only the Bible. Yet, despite its flaws, Mask Girl is a highly recommended Kdrama, especially for people who enjoy thrillers.

I still can't believe that Kim Mo-Mi's aging role was played by a completely different actress than Nana. MoMi may be old and may have suffered in prison. However, the sudden change from Nana's face to Ko Hyun-Jung's face was hard to watch. I know that Nana is too beautiful and one&only and this is a drama. But you know. I thought that the plastic surgery backfired because Momi was beaten too much. Also, this drama did not live up to my expectations. Not recommended.

Jo Aug 25 2023 8:20 am I enjoyed the series, Hanbyeol did justice to her role ( not really sure if she’s the one dancing irl) and also Hye-ran’s acting is commendable. However, i’m a little disappointed with the ending. They never revealed the truth behind the murders of handsome monk and Chun-ae as well as Bu-yung no investigation happened they just assumed it was all Mask girl’s doing. Lastly, Momi didn’t even tell Ju Oh-nam’s mother that Mi-mo was her granddaughter, It could’ve changed her mind in killing mimo.

sh4y Aug 24 2023 6:46 pm Seemingly Oh-Nam’s mother never found out that Mi-mo was her granddaughter which was so disappointing because it would have made her feel more guilt for the shit she put that innocent child through. As much as i didnt enjoy the second half of the show as i did with the first, i would like to say Kyung-ja’s character was written perfectly. She accurately represented the mothers who do not acknowledge their children’s wrongdoings and only point out how their child was wronged. It was really infuriating to see how she didnt bat an eye at the fact that her son was a disgusting pervert and was in constant denial even with the substantial evidence. There was no progression in her characters nature and she eventually became the satan who she had once prayed would not influence her life and choices.

d33rama Aug 24 2023 4:02 pm SPOILER & TRIGGER WARNINGS: attempted sexual assault, violent rape, and several murder scenes in first two episodes. Was caught off guard by the graphic nature of it all. I stopped watching near the end of episode 3 because the shock and violence were to rough to recover from. I know it's rated TV-MA, but hot damn... by average K-drama standards (non-Squid Game) I expected the usual more tame violence levels were used to. Seperately, the story wasn't exciting or enthralling enough to keep us hooked--character development was shallow, only relaying on shock value. Hope the warning helps others skip this if needed.

How did momi know her daughters photo is fake. After hitting ohnams mom she could have tied her up and escaped the disaster but instead she let her be and the hell broke lose. Also dont understand how did momi know her daughters photo and phone number are fame, werent explained and also hpw she trabsformed into a religious person.

The use of religion here seems so forced because no matter what faith ohnams mom followed the church she was attending wasnt encouraging any killing and stuff, it was her own delusion who was using bible or lord as an excuse to kill the girl or mother.

As of ohnam the only reason i dont feel bad for his murder was because he also killed and cut up someone, but i dont think he deserved to have been killed by momi.

Also why police never discovered chun ae's body and didnt catch ohnams mom for that murder, when momi was arrrested she should have spilled it all, who killed whom and stuff. And honestly the discovery of corpse at ohnams place was already proving his role in what he did.

All momi castings were good except the last one. Like go hyun jo is running away in car and she is injured and all and is scared for her daughters life and she calls her mom and she says in such bored and relax way her daughter is in danger, like she was asking has she changed light bulb.

Nana and hanbyeol did justice to role.

I personally believe problems started from momi's mother. Momi was subjected to harsh comments her mom never supported her emotionally, don't feel much sympathy for momi too because she was a hypocrite she herself was trying to sleep witb a married boss but when she discovers his affair she rats the girl out subjecting her to same kind of hate and harsh comments that she had always faced for her looks. Momis mom was the most important person ib building her confidence in looks but she abandons her. We were never told why her mom jated and isolated her.

Then same thing was done to momis daughter by her mother again. She never raised her grandaughter welll, had she supported her against hate and criticism mimo wouldnt have gone to this extent. Also it was her job to keep check on who she is talking to and what kind of stuff they are feeding her, then when mimo was given hate and she was violent she shoulf have helped overcome her violent streak but there was 0 support for the girl which led to so much chaos.

As adult working at a corp momi was responsible for her mistakes, but her daughter hadnt grown up enough yet to know what to do in thsi situation.

I also have to say momi had another hypocritical trait, she was an average looking girl but like everyone else around her she also wanted super good looking partner and didnt look much at average looks' men.

Aaron Aug 22 2023 2:36 am I really enjoyed this series, after waiting all summer for it. I feel seven episodes was quite short and could have had at least an extra episode for the 00s and 10s. The only real criticism I have of this series is the fact 3 different characters played Kim Mo Mi in a series that only consisted of 7 episodes. Nana could have easily added grey to her hair, or even age-progressing make-up could have been applied, to play the 2023 version of Momi. It didn't make sense to have a whole different actor play the same character, if no plastic surgery was involved, in my opinion.

Anne Aug 20 2023 6:45 pm This show will keep you on your toes!! 10/10 would recommend. The suspense, dark humour and the emotional scenes really keep you hooked. And the acting is super, especially Yum He-Ran, she deserves all the awards! Don't see the ratings - it's all from the people who watch cringe shows like King the Land and expect the same from this one.

Also I find it so silly that people are complaining that this show is "americanised" or becoming "dark" when apparently "kdramas are all about the light." Did people really not see that this show is A-rated?? Some of the best shows out there like Squid Game, My Name, Taxi Driver and Sweet Home are A-rated. Stop judging a show because it was too dark and brutal for you to handle, when you should not even be watching it in the first place. Kdramas and Movies (especially so many amazing horror ones) have always had a dark elements. Constructive criticism is you complaining about the plot, pacing, acting, etc. Not about "Korea, please don't make dark trash like this. People want to see things that will uplift, inspire and encourage. There's enough darkness out there as it is."

Syl Aug 20 2023 6:47 am This was a good binge! The themes of generational trauma and self acceptance were well incorporated within the episodes. There were no bleak scenes anywhere - from seat grippers to heart wrenching acting.

The directing and filming of many of the scenes were amazing and had the ability to portray an aesthetic yet eerie vibe. The entire show is heavily flooded with dark themes so if you don’t like it watching that, then just don’t watch it. I’ve never read the webtoon and I could only assume that it would be challenging to condense a webtoon into seven episodes but this show did a good job of conveying a plot that was as so suspenseful, shocking and intense. Again, for those who kind of like darker, more intense content, def recommend checking this show out

After I finished watching it, I could only say... erghhhhh why did it end so quickly. Because the ending was too rushed. I really like Nana there, because Nana's acting is very good in my opinion.
