Hwang Do-Hee (Kim Hee-Ae) works as a general manager for a strategic planning team at Eunsung Group. She is good at dealing with public opinion. She takes care of disturbing cases for the company and she is highly trusted by her employers.

One day, she joins Oh Kyung-Sook's (Moon So-Ri) campaign to become the mayor of Seoul. Oh Kyung-Sook is a human rights lawyer, who often went up against Eunsung Group. She decided to run for mayor with the goal of fighting for the weak.

During the election, Oh Kyung-Sook and Hwang Do-Hee often butt heads with differing opinions, but they strive for the same end goal. That is to make Oh Kyung-Sook the mayor of Seoul.

AA Jan 15 2024 11:36 pm I like it for the drama and confrontational scenes, but the political stance, especially for the lead woman, seems petty. All they do is contradict what the male villain is proposing, and that's it. The series ends with no real platform laid out, action-plans on how to implement it. The way they campaigned is to throw mud at each other, in their own words "end them", like there's an elimination game wherein the candidate who gets the least scandal somehow wins? I dont get it. Why cant the peope choose based on the platforms of the party/candidate? Or maybe, I just dont understand how their culture works.

I dont know with SK, but in our country, the mayor is more on programs. The anti-corruption stance is a good touch, too. But those flowery, abstract, big concepts are more fitting for national/presidential positions, not in mayorship. Mayors are more about local projects and programs. What are Kyung-Sook's programs? I really didnt understand.

OK series if you're used to kdramas, you might even find it refreshing. Characters are very simple and obvious. But if you've seen a lot of western true crime, evil corporation fights, you might find this really really petty and quite unbelievable.

Park Min Dec 24 2023 1:07 pm While it may have had a gripping introduction and an attractive selection of cast, however, it couldn't maintain its momentum later on. It started off as a fully fledged political drama then added a mix of other genres and cliches with an overpowering flavor of Netflix-esque type of production. Within a few episodes, it quickly lost its creative edge and began to recycle and re-skin the same attacks and counter-attacks between the involved parties. It made the scoop of the drama quite limited for its +11 hours runtime. It's a female centered plot so naturally the spotlight was on them. Each received decent characterization, good introductions, showcased interesting dynamics, and donned fashionable attire. However, by the end of the drama, all of them blended into a bland and vexing mix, losing their initial allure. The drama may have been alright but it's not quite there. At least it didn't stretch for the typical 16 episodes so that's a small win. On another note, the superheroes slo-mo walking shots were cringe. And the brief teaser at the end for a potential 2nd season was tasteless.

deliriouslin May 28 2023 10:00 am You know what to expect when you have 2 veterans acting in one drama. Queenmaker started off slow and when I thought it's a typical political drama, Kim Hee-Ae turned the tables around and with her amazing performance, the plot gets intense and chair-gripping.

Coupled with Moon So-Ri's acting, the duo proves that women’s power is strong even in politics and how women support each other in desperate situations and also tried to deter the forces of chaebol’s power. The drama brings a mixture of feelings and at times you will think that they will give up but it’s not over till it’s over. The plot is really well-written and hopefully, there will be a season 2!

Renwa May 21 2023 10:56 pm Queenmaker is a riveting tightly wound drama. The casting is just outstanding. So many despicable characters played by our favorite actors. I just adored the actors and hated the characters at the same time. Just when you think you’ve witnessed the worst of the worst behavior, it gets even worse. OMG. Non stop twists and turns…just a lot of fun. Lots of women power in this drama…Strong Characters played by consummate actors. The direction had to be top flight when such consistent high level performances keep the viewer so engaged & revengeful. Couldn’t wait for end so everyone got what was coming to them. Many award worthy aspects…performances, screenplay & directing. Don’t miss this 11 episode drama.

I surprisingly enjoyed this political drama as it wasn't about the political aspect, just set the stage.

I liked that it was 11 eps and the ending was perfect as it showed there was life after incarceration for dohee.

This kdrama like fresh air and empowerment, because the women on it seems powerfull and dominant. In real life, some people view SK is old fashion and sensitive to women topics. I think the writer-nim (Moon Ji Young) heavily inspired by Scandal (USA political drama/Kerry Washington). And i recall there the dialogues similar with Itaewon Class.btw,This kdrama have flaws but still interesting. Bravo to the cast, esp Kim Hehe Aee, Moon So ri and Kin Sae Byuk.

Every episode is entertaining and the cast is stellar- from the two female leads to the supporting cast! Kim Hee Ae is incredible as usual.

Initially excited because I have been Jin Kyung's fan for sometime. She portrayed yet another villain character, even more evil than the one as Melacholia's headmistress Noh Jung Ah. The yelling and smirking, ahh it made my blood boil.

Kim Hee Ae and other ensemble female casts were outstanding!!! Looking forward for this drama to win award!

Country bumpkin Apr 16 2023 4:29 am jin kyung in ep 7 from min.34:00. wicked but somehow adorable. or cold blood but warm. ruthless but she got 9 year old puppy eyes. an oxymoron .! i repeated the scene. couldn't help but giggled eventhough she was being diabolical and ruthless or manipulative or all adjective words related to that. Think about it, the casts are all perfectly chosen. So far there are three female leads. All eunsung family are top notch! Lee kyoung young, Kim byung ok always delivered. When kbo scolded fl, yelled at her, within only a split second, i cringed. scared me good. But jin kyung, since her awesome performances in extraordinary lawyer, i always look for her. I think I become a huge fan of Jin Kyung.
