When Kim Ji-Yong (Nam Joo-Hyuk) was a child, his mother was beaten to death by a thug for no reason on the street. The thug only received 3 and half years in prison. Kim Ji-Yong is now an adult and he sees that his mother's killer hasn't changed at all. Kim Ji-Yong takes matters into his own hands and beats him brutally.

Since then, Kim Ji-Yong begins living two totally different lives. During the weekdays, he is a model student at the police university, but, during the weekends, he punishes criminals who received ridiculously light sentences and continue to commit criminal acts. Kim Ji-Yong is now called Vigilante and he receives help from Jo Gang-Ok (Lee Jun-Hyuk), who admires him. Meanwhile, Jo Heon (Yoo Ji-Tae), who is the team leader of a police investigation team, chases after the man called Vigilante. Choi Mi-Ryeo (Kim So-Jin) is a reporter of a broadcasting station and she covers Vigilante.

miyu May 25 2025 4:41 am I know vigilanteism is wrong irl, but damn! the people the MC came after are all so vile and evil, and the justice system is so weak, corrupt, and unfair that i can't help but think vigilanteism might be a valid answer. Besides, it's fiction—so seeing the end of evil people's existence is so satisfying.

I like that our vigilante at least sorta gives the justice system a chance because he only attacks those who resume their criminal acts after serving their very light sentences, or those who escaped punishment altogether because they manipulated the corrupt system. Sadly, it's a reflection of our reality. Heinous criminals are let out after serving short sentences and they frequently re-offend. Rich and powerful criminals get acquitted or they don't get caught at all because they control the authorities and they have the best lawyers who can make the law work in their favor. Instead of being reactive—like waiting for the ex-convicts to re-offend or waiting for the rich and powerful to make a mistake, our vigilante is pro-active. We can tell that the evil people he comes after are hopeless—they haven't changed and will not change. So to save innocent people from becoming their future victims, it makes sense to just take them out as soon as they are caught attenpting to do more bad things again.

Our justice systems in multiple countries have become so weak and bland, and so against capital punishment even when it's clearly called for, that it's no small wonder others don't take justice into their own hands more often. I loved the cast, many have been my favorites for more than two decades! How time flies.

I loved the main actor cause he infuriated me so much but I also understood the characters point of view he had nothing to lose so why not die trying to make the world better place!!! The show was 15/10 but the ending was 9/10. How someone die from 1 stab wound but another person lives from 3 gun shot wounds and multiple stab wounds and I’m not even talking about the big dude that was also invincible for no logical reason . Still 10 out 10 would recommend . Also the main character and his roommate were sooooo hot!!!

kaito Oct 29 2024 8:01 pm Likable characters, decent acting, great action, and raises real world issues. The plot is not extraordinary. Vigilanteism has been touched upon so many times in other films and series, but i personally cant get enough of them. In reality, no one or very few could be that brave and successful, so at least in fiction it's so satisfying to see the vigilante succeed and the bad people get their comeuppance. I like that he goes after those who have clearly NOT been rehabilitated, those who are already "punished" by the law but only very lightly so they continue with their evil exploits. Such people don't change and the world would be a better place with them dead.

Revenge thriller is such a complex genre that is often poorly executed because of the many facets to the story but vigilante is brilliant with its fleshed out characters and fast paced storyline that does more showing than telling. The subplots embellish the main plot instead of taking away from it and the side characters bring a breath of fresh air to the screen.

The acting from the cast is top notch. The last drama I watched of nam joo hyuck was weightlifting fairy and between that drama and this, he played a completely 180° different character and succeeded in bringing it to life! Although her character made my blood boil, Kim sojin did wonderfully with her role!

The ending scene where everyone stands and salutes during the police academy graduation but nam joo hyuck's character does not gave me goosebumps. So much of his chraacter's resolve is shown through a simple gesture!

Sincerely hoping for season 2!

Hello writers, a doctor wearing a mask in a hospital is very common. Is a mask really that hard to find? He shows his face to all bad people he meet, what do he expect from that??! This is really not logical for a vigilante. The writers need to watch Arrow (DC TV Series) from the very beginning to write about a vigilante. Or learn from Yoo Lee Jin (High School Soldier webtoon) about wearing a mask to protect people around him.

As expected of the storyline, there’s lots of physical action, with a simple uncomplicated plot, so for those who’re looking for a series that thought provoking or contemplative, this isn’t for them! Yoo Ji-Tae is built like a man-mountain, Nam Joo-Hyuk who has an athletic body, looks small in comparison! It’s a worthy watch for those who want to take a break from more mentally taxing shows, and who aren’t squeamish about punches and kicks being thrown liberally.

They should have given more depth to story, the showdown in the penultimate episode 7 was more exciting than the final episode 8 - why couldn't you just add 2 more episodes and finish the story with a flourish? Nony Dec 26 2023 9:32 am 100/10. I like everything. The satisfaction of beating the perp. The storyline. Namjoo hyuk hahaha. And its very fast paced. 8eps is enough to put everything. I just dont like the ending (its kinda predictable, i knew the friend thing gonna happen). But I guess thats the only way they can save the vigilante identity. I just think that it should be the Other friend lol. And the friend can be like the 2nd vigilante following njh path. I was hoping for more from his friends actually. Heard there’s gonna be s2? Cause the main problem isnt finished yet. But njh went to military already. So either they already finished filming s2, or waiting for njh to finish military or theres not gonna be s2 at all. The reporter played an important role imo in showing the positive side of vigilante and helping the public aware of their perps fault and weakness of laws. But yeah, i think people just dont like the actress cause many said that both characters played by the actress (in vigilante and through the darkness) are annoying. So i think maybe the actress? have an annoying face?

I would say the most entertaining part in this series was the subordinates Jo Heon adopted. And what kept me watching was seeing how heinous the crimes were. But compared to the crimes, the fight scenes between Jiyong or Gang Ok and the villains were lackluster. Like many others I thought Miryeo was annoying, I feel like her character was pointless.

David Nov 30 2023 4:56 pm I am a minority on this as I think the acting of the secondary cast was a bit over acting specially the newscaster not sure who is she tryng to emulate acting wise. Storyline was good but ending was seems like cut short but don't mind a season 2 but hopefully less over acting and real storyline.

They share the same last name. It was also hinted that Gang-ok knows Heon on a personal level. He kept calling him as a traitor. They can be brothers. They both share the same ideals but how they execute their justice is different.

Gang-ok believed justice could be achieved by going the vigilante route while Heon believed in the law. And the Chairman Gang-ok was referring to is their own father.

And everything about her expression kinda annoyed me. Just wanted to skip all her scenes but she is kind of an important character so difficult to do so.

This is most noticeable in the scenes between Choi Mi-Ryeo and her station boss where the dialog feels unnatural and the characters' responses disproportionate for the situation. What works in a webtoon does not necessarily translate to a television drama.

sf Nov 22 2023 1:51 pm I didn't know a bigger man than Yoo Ji-Tae could exist, but it exists. I don't understand why, at the end of the 6 episode, Vigilante appeared as the Vigilante and not as a police student or a simple civil person. Now is known by the people who should not known him.

Greatness Nov 22 2023 11:47 am Nam Joo-Hyuk is that kind of actor who always seeks to improve himself. He might quite stiff at acting in his past project around 2015-2018 but the moment he took The Light in Your Eyes, I don’t think people should doubt him again in terms of acting. His acting skill is skyrocketing in each project he takes after another and his eyes acting is superb. Mastering eyes acting is not something many young actors can do and he nails it everytime.

Glad he keeps proving to anyone who doubts him, he’s getting better and better and I wish to see him receive Best Actor in Baeksang in the near future.

Watched the first 2 episodes with enjoyment and felt a little 'scared' when Kim Jiyong turned into a 'Vigilante' at night. Seniors like Yoo Jitae, Kim Sojin, and Lee Joonhyuk looked amazing in the trailer and the drama. Looking forward to the next episode with excitement. Great drama, too bad there will only be 8 episodes.
