irish Nov 02 2025 2:28 pm I’ve read a lot of comments saying that reply 1997 is the worst in the reply series but it’s actually my favorite! Reply 1988 was a masterpiece but it’s too long for me. The same goes for reply 1994 — the episodes are long and i got bored. Reply 1997 on the other hand has shorter episodes and has such a cute story. Well, except for the part where Yoonjae’s brother falls in love with Shiwon (his late fiancée’s sister!) I also find it a bit weird since he used to be a teacher at Shiwon’s school. The bond and friendship between the six of them are so cute and touching.

This series made me fall in love with Seo Inguk!! <33

Admit it, without Reply 1997's big success we wouldn't have Reply 1988, even Hospital Playlist.

Kana Nov 11 2024 9:45 am This drama was the first drama that director's worked on, he edited this all of his own, and the budget was too small (only 60M won for each episode) You can't compare this to another Reply series. But for me, Reply 1997 was the best among the trilogy. And I think, without Reply 1997 success, there won't be another Reply series. I'm on my third rewatch now, the story and actors are good. I love every episode. You should try watching this.

Oct 14 2023 8:48 am i really loved this season. but it is just a bit weird for me considering the fact that the older brother has been in love with the female lead before. to add, he was a teacher while she was a student. nonetheless, I enjoyed the series, I was a bit hesitant at first since it is underrated unlike 1994 and 1988 but It really is super good!!

Johnny Fever Dec 26 2021 1:32 pm I love Eun-Ji as an actress and singer, but I didn't get what the big deal was about the Si-Won character. Yoon Jae spent too much time brooding.

Si-Won's Dad was way over the top, although I did feel sad when he was diagnosed with cancer.

I feel so sorry for the Sung-Jae character. What is it about comic characters where script writers automatically do not grant them some happy ending of their own?

risha glenda Dec 06 2021 2:49 am beeest reply series ever for me!!! i watch this in 2013 and i was so thrilled at the end of each episode that i needed to continue the next episode Right Away hahahahahaha this gave me so much unforgottable memories with their husband hunter concept that i didnt even feel curious and thrilled anymore in the next seasons so this became my best reply series all the time. i also love love love the osts that eunji and inguk sing together!!! We all have different opinions but its unfair to say that the other Reply dramas were worse....I mean the different stories from the series may depict some of the lives of the people out there...and plus the cast members did their best to provide professionalism in acting. This series Drama is the Best Ever because being born in the millennium era I get to have a good idea of what life was like in the time when my parents were youths...so I recommend watching all the Reply series drama....sometimes what you expect from the drama does not show...but that's how it is because life is not always about the smiles....

By the time It got to the romantic side, I lost all interest in Reply 1988. Reply 1994 it was just to fill be another part of Reply. No offense but I'm sorry I watched the other two parts of Reply. If I were to give notes Reply 1997 it would be the only part that would take 10 out of 10. Reply 1994 i will give 3.5 out of 10, Reply 1988 would take 5.5 out of 10.

Ciepao Dec 31 2020 1:57 pm I still didn't watch Reply 1998 but in my opinion this drama is one of the best drama that i've watch... it's not that bad... i watched tons of k-drama this year and i really like this kdrama...the chemistry between the main characters are really cute... yeah the "shouting', 'yelling' and fight parts might be a little annoying and cringe but its bearable....their acting is really good too! especially Do Hak-Chan, the way he acts awkwardly everytime the 'girls' or his girlfriend is around is the best! i always found that part funny...

The things i dont like in this kdrama is Mo Yoo-Jung always threats hakchan that he will break up with him, and the yelling parts...but in my opinion they are all bearable to watch....

overall i will give this kdrama an 8/10... and i'll recommend u to watch it cause i think this drama is worth it

I thought in korean culture the young people usually polite, but OMG..... i really want to slap si won. Childish spoiled annoying character ever, I really don't get it why screaming and yelling is funny. What is funny from a girl using physical abuse to her friend, yelling at her father and being die hard fans? I give 1 point to this drama

Leah Oct 07 2020 9:09 am I am 8 years late watching this drama probably when I tried watching this in 2012, I was so bored and gave it up. But since I am lot older now, I appreciated it much better and love the series. Plus I am sucker for childhood friends turned lovers.

I think a lot of people would be bored because this is a slow romance. We only got a real kissing scene at episode 14 and the romance only picked up when they did time skip. But I think the slow romance and the nostalgia this drama brings is so good so please be patient in watching.

The only think I disliked from this drama is the creepy relationship of Shiwon and Taewoong. I am really nauseated eveytime they have scenes because it just looks creepy and weird. He is a good brother but the daddy long legs part, yuck, yuck, ewww.

Anyways, the romance of the main leads are quite cute but yeah sometimes brutal LOL. But their chemistry is really great.

Noh Eul Sep 16 2020 11:49 am This is my favorite and have watched it many times because it is funny and related to my fangirl life. I watched it from the beginning before I knew it would be a series. If you watch it from the beginning and in sequence, you will connect with the jokes in the next series. I saw a lot of people who liked Reply 1988 not watching from the start of the series. "Too many shouting-at-each-other scene", because you guys have seen Reply 1988 first. And the background of the place is Busan, every time I see a drama with a Busan accent, they are like shouting. LOL. Each series has its own story. This is Shin Wonho PD-nim's first drama project, you could say it was successful and finally there is a series. Ratings? Ratings cannot be trusted 100%, many Korean dramas are overrated even though the stories are normal. And this is on Cable TV in 2012, most artists still don't want to take dramas on Cable TV. LOL.

Marathon24 Sep 05 2020 1:28 am Stopped at eps 4. Just couldn't stand them because they were too loud and noisy. Too many "shouting at each other" scene. And for me it was too obvious who's going to be Si Won's husband. LOL. Reply 1988 is still my all time favourite.

Reply 1988 is really nice. Very friendly and united neighbours and strong bonding amongst everyone. Love it!

This was their breakthrough drama as they both came from making variety. Give respect to the eldest gem of Shin Won Ho and Lee Woo Jung babies. And lets support the Wise Life series. ?

I started losing interest in the show after the 9th or 10th ep and I almost stopped watching on the 12th ep but I continued anyway because there were only 4 eps left. Siwon's relationship with Yoonjae was low-key high-key abusive same with Yoojung and Hakchan's relationship. I've seen several dramas where the female leads act like that towards their s/o but this was a bit too much. She keeps hitting him for the smallest/dumbest reasons and it wasn't fun to watch.

I love the friendship between Shiwon and YoonJae! Love the friendship between their core group of friends actually! Definitely recommend this drama for anyone who loves nostalgic 90s!

Loved this show, and after watching R1994 afterwards, prefer this one of the two.

Love the storyline with Hoya - still a very controversial subject in Korea now, unfortunately. He portrayal was realistic and outstanding.

Sung Dong Il - loved him since I saw him in Hwarang and have loved his character portrayal in all the dramas I've seen him in. Though I am still confused as to why he and Lee Il Hwa play characters with the same names in all three shows but with different children - and why they both kept their real names in the show, too. It may be a language barrier thing that gets lost in translation. LOL

Next on my list is 1988 - which is closer to my generation... ;)

oof Jan 26 2018 1:05 pm this is really amazing. made me think back to the 90s when i was also obsessed with sechskies :') i only found out recently that they had made a comeback. i cried for like 3 hours. i only have one criticism for this show and its the fact that it was all about the mystery of siwon's husband but i literally guessed episode 1, which was kinda disappointing. i suppose the show isn't necessarily focused on just that but also just throwback to the 90s in general and i loved it.

I was never into dramas, I saw a few because of my favourite idols and I liked them but mostly, I didn't feel anything special or after a few episodes, I got bored. Reply was a whole different thing. I started watching it a Sunday night and I completed it the next friday DURING SCHOOL, when I barely have time to sleep. It was seriously addictive. I loved every single character, every relationship. The mood took me away and I wanted to live in the 90s (and I still wan, tho). I wanted to stan H.O.T, I wanted to sit all night in front of music store, waiting for the album or a concert ticket, I wanted be a part of this world. I wanted freinds like JoonHee or YoonJae, ShiWon or anyone in the story. They were the first characters that really got me. I respect JoonHee and Hoya so much, I can't even express it. Hoya surely needed courage to play this carachter and he expressed his feelings so well, like a professional actor who has been acting since he was born. JoonHee was just an amazing guy. He hide his feelings for years and although he was crazy about YoonJae, he only said it once because he didn't want to ruin their friendship, plus he knew he love ShiWon so much. In the beggining, I was praying for them to be a couplebut at the end, I realized it will never happen and I was happy about it because ShiWon and YoonJae had such great chemistry. I loved ShiWon so much because he was basically me. I usually get annoyed by the main character but not in the case of Reply 1997. I could feel here, I understood here, we were on person. Also, I'm thankful for her because I was able to get to know APink and since that they, she's my ultimate female bias. Love you, Eunji, Seo In Guk, Hoya, Reply 1997, Sungjae, Hakchan, Yoojung and H.O.T

I also grew up in 1990s so I can relate to almost all 'old' things that appear/happen in this drama. and although we idolize different group, but siwon's life in general is pretty much like mine. fangirling, watching concert, fanwar, writing (m-rated) fanfic, and even at the part the our love for those idols we love finally help us to get into college and find a job. this is a lovable drama with lovable cast and lovable storyline. I watch it at least once a year. haha.

Reply 1994 is ok but not as reply 1997. This drama gives me heartbteak when tae woong didnt get two girls with same characters. But I love eunji and inguk couple. Their scenes takes my breath away. Yes , when they kiss . :D I also like their friendship. Looks real not like other ones. They fight, then they laugh. I cant move on. Hahaha

anh Jun 12 2016 2:26 am Because of this drama that I was introduced to my beautiful ultimate bias Eunji. I can't imagine anyone else playing Shi Won besides Eunji. She carried out this role so well. I had tears from laughing. I wish Inguk and Eunji would play in another drama together. They have awesome chemistry. Joon Hee got me crying the most, especially that scene where he confessed and Yoon Je took it as a joke..So heartbreaking. Although this drama is super predictable, I love the emotions and laughter that it brought me. It brought me back to my memories of my first love and the innocence of youth. I felt really good and warm watching it. This drama is one of my top dramas.

maansc May 14 2016 1:31 am WARNING: SPOILER maybe it's just me, but the ending is predictable and heartbreaking as well. I feel sad for Tae woong's character, why let him wait for 6 years. From MY point of view (woman) it's too misleading and giving false hope to a guy. 6 years is just too cruel. I felt bad for him and cried a lot while the two main characters are kissing! Hahahahaha :) The characters that strikes me the most are Sung Dong Il, SunJae and Ji Won's characters. Tho I'm not fan of how the story ends, this drama brings a pang in my heart. For sure, I'll remember this drama for a couple of days and be sad thinking about it. Sigh.

But, Reply 1988 is better, even when the drama is yet to reach its finale. Maybe because Reply 1988 got more episodes than Reply 1997, so it have longer story lines which makes you more attached to the series. No offense, Reply 1997 is the pioneer, and Reply 1988 is the successor, which is of course more successful than Reply 1997.

I'm your kind of people, I don't like watching something that has no theme, but I tried to watch this and this is honestly THE BEST WRITTEN DRAMA I've ever watched. The writing is so good, the plot is coming back and forth but by no means caused confusions. It's like layers and layers of thin clothes worn by women in their ripened age, and slowly being taken off layers by layers, until a beautiful ending was shown in the end. The slice of life drama bits weren't boring - FAR from boring. The narration doesn't feel preachy, but we can totally relate to the story. ESPECIALLY when you're above 25 y.o. This drama seems to be designed for your adults, so if you're a young-adult, please do come and watch.

I must say, I have fallen in love with both Eunji and In guk! The cast has great chemistry. It's that kind of drama that is very cheerful and bright yet undeniably tugs on your heartstrings. If you remember your 90s, this drama will surely give you a warm nostalgic feeling. One of the best dramas out there!

retro Aug 29 2015 6:49 pm i cant believe i just watched this drama after watching all of Seo In Guk's dramas. this drama is so funny and sad at times. and the nostalgia! not a fan of idol groups but lead actress is great, and i understand hoya is also from a boy group, he's also good. and of course, my main reason for watching this is SIG. he's always super adorable when he plays a high schooler. highly recommend this drama!

This very show took kdrama to another level and inspired more provoking contents to write, especially in cable TV. What a surprise since I initially took this drama as a joke, but I find it very beautiful and honest and touching at the same time. Moreover, I was born in the 1990s and even if I'm not Korean, I resonated with these characters so much without ever realizing it before. Excellent beyond compare! Much recommended.

rara Jan 16 2014 5:40 pm dr-acid you should watch Reply 1997 first. Why? Simple reason: this is the first season of the series. R1997 came in 2012, so people considered it to be the original. R1994 came in 2013, so people considered it to be the sequel/spin-off, although the characters and story are quite different but same. Plus, you will not understand anything in R1994 when R1997 came as cameos. Only those who have watched R1997 feels the warm, excited feeling when 1997 casts cameo-ing in 1994.

Also, reply 1997 is more mysterious since this is where some of the tricks started. Both drama have the similar plot but with different concern. reply 1997 tackles the lives of high school friends while reply 1994 deals with 5 college students, that comes from different provinces in SK, who gathered in a boarding house and become friends. Overall, both drama is a must see. It will bring tears to the viewers because we can relate to what they experience.

Although I was in college during the 90s, I didn't realize that time period had any significance until after watching this drama. I just loved that the writer(s) had the foresight to preserve this time period with a film, with a really good story. Don't sleep on this one if you're looking for that next drama to watch.

The series is unique in itself. It wasn't just a South Korean thing, this was an intentional thing. I always appreciate well made art and this show was exactly that: Art. If you are more of the "typical" rom-com affair, check this one out. It's a breath of fresh air and you won't regret it.

Although there is some korean specific humour, its relatable to every generation. It keeps you drawn in, there is no dragging, its all perfect.I originally had the lowest of low expectations of this, but I was shocked when I was proved wrong. Surprsingly great acting by non-experienced actors.

Is it sad that I re-watched this drama 4 times? I keep coming back to this drama because its just that good.

You won't have any question remained, all you're curious about, everything you're questioning like 'how does love still be in their heart after separating for 6 years?' has the answer. When you're thinking how unrealistic it is, this drama has its own way to show you that it's what happened. 2. Every scene here has the purpose of its own to lead to another thing that makes this drama develop more. I adore the scriptwriter for her idea to make us guess so many times : who among those friends will announce their marriage, who from 2 men is the baby's father, and everything other that made it a creative deductive plot. Everything is tricky at first but clear at last. 3. It's always funny to hear the goats bleating in the gags, hahaha. 4. That fangirls' lives, that great chemistry between In-Guk and Eunji, and their awesome acting skills (even Hoya made it almost perfect too!) I'll always adore. I love Eunji's acting at Episode 2 after kissing, it's so unbelievably natural from head to toe!! I RECOMMEND THIS DRAMA A LOT! WORTH WATCHING <3

" ok, I'll watch ", i said. man~ how happy i was to see them again, though only Tony.. and the happiest was during last episode, and my heart exploded and on fire when DBSK made appearance (though through name again) dae~bak! if I want to put my role in this drama, Taewoong's wife will be perfect, heheh~

Jul 16 2013 9:22 pm among all the kdramas i've ever watched, this one is the best !! it doesn't have the same old tiny pieces of cliches you fing in All korean dramas . it's hilarious. and each episode isn't one hour. so it doesn't get annoyingly boring like any other korean series. and its the only series that i never pushed the next button because it get freakishly bor-ing! this series is amazing! and for the viewer's sake will you make more of this kind of series with the standards that this one have provided?

Difficult topics are handled beautifully and there is much humor. The multiple love stories aren't perfect but they are relatable and handled well. I resisted for a long time because I didn't want to watch another "HS drama", but this isn't one. Loved it!

You guys did a fine job for moving the time back and forth and did a finest work by brought back such as 90's culture,attire,icon,trend etc. I feel like I'm living my high school again for crazy 'bout boyband and couldn't stop talking 'bout them like everyday at school, to put on their posters over the wall, to put on a fight with my mom cuz she's sicken the way I adored my idols. Everything at this move was just right.

My fave scene is when shi-won parents has to send their daughter for college but both shi-won and her parents couldn't express their feeling in how much they'll miss each other around and I'm feeling it.

To all the casts you did a terrific job although it seems like some of the characters doesn't suit the age for high school pupils and Yoon Tae-Woong doesn't seem aged at all in fact he has ages gap to his little brother, I'm just saying. overall this drama succeeded brings back good memories in 90's. Once again thank you ^,^

meeeh Dec 01 2012 1:40 pm i don't know why, i think this drama is not popular in korea. and maybe, the cast are not too famaous as an actrees/actor. but it's really really good drama and the cast are have skill on acting. this drama makes you keep guessing. i was confused all the time. its always unpredictable on each episode. its recommended for all ppl. especially for people who loves k-drama! anyway, i watched it online, then i think i want to download it. because, i want to watch it again again and again. does anyone knows where the website for download this drama with english subtitle? thanks:)

Peejay Sep 11 2012 4:52 am I agree, this drama is underrated. I've watched up to Epi 14 and it's the best episode so far! The drama started out soso! but as each episode unfold, you get a look at each of the characters story - some funny, some sad stories. I really love it and really look forward to each epi, like I did with A Gentleman's Dignity, and before that, Coffee Prince. Horray to the female lead character Sung Shi-Won played by Jung Eun-Ji, who has a very strong personality and always says what is in her heart. But sorry, I do not get the obsession with the boy groups. Just wondering how they will still develop the story when almost all the characters' love stories have reached their peak, and it's only Epi 14. I hope the ending will not be a disappointment, like Fashion King How many episode are there anyway?

Then when I saw that it had practically 5 stars on Drama Fever I was like, hmmmm something must be good. So I watched episode 2 and I've been hooked ever since. I love this drama and hope it gets like 24 episodes. (^ ^)

I never easily fall into K-Drama before, but this one definitely stole my heart. The leading casts are relatively new, but they prove themselves to be talented and great in acting. Without too much spectacular and glamorous reception, this drama rising its greatness week-by-week that never expected before

I feel this drama is underrated. But if you watch this, you'll find out it is different and fresh. It is realized us: "our life is actually a heart-touching comedy with a full of misunderstanding days that stretched since we born until our own death later"
