A lawyer (Kim Myung-Min) goes by fair play or foul methods to win his cases. An accident though leads to the lawyer losing his memory. He then goes up against the very law firm where he work at previously.

Zahav Mar 07 2025 7:06 am I watched this drama which is also called Redemption and am totally disappointed. First of all, the title does not make sense. Even though the ML (lawyer) developed amnesia after an accident, he is still the ruthless lawyer. Yes he took one pro bono case but the fact that he got his fiancé and her company off the hook and all the small people lost all their investments. She and her family continued living rich and all the smaller folks suffered. How is this turning over a new leaf. He continued to be very selfish and he treated the intern like trash but treated his “fiancé” better when she lied to him about everything. They should have developed the hunted romance between the ML and FL. There are some many holes in this story and the ending does not make sense. The ML continued to be selfish and not care for the smaller people. No redemption or turning over a new leaf here - Sad!

Henna Jan 24 2024 4:21 am Could've been better. There are two things that can be improved, I think. First, there isn't much conflict in the plot. You don't hold your breath waiting for a genius way out! The resolutions are almost instant leaving little room for anticipation. The second is Park Min-Young character. I've seen this several times in k-drama. An outgoing/cheerful character doesn't have to be caricature-like. Horrible performance. Oh Jung-Se's character is a breath of fresh air.

del Aug 09 2016 1:04 am @Boon Ang, I thought the show was forced to rush things in the last 2-3 episodes due to the 2-episode cut, but to my mind the various threads were properly and realistically concluded:

1. Park Dong Hyeon's murder: probably committed by the hostess' boyfriend, who in turn had probably been terminated with extreme prejudice by Park's family. It was the prosecution's job, not Seok Joo's, to investigate further; Seok Joo was only interested in saving Jung Hye Ryung.

2. The "bank's culpability in the CPs": I think you have conflated two separate cases here -- the CPs had to do with Yoo Jung Sun's family's Yurim Group, while the banks were the ones flogging the dodgy foreign exchange option thing to innocent SMEs. Resolution: in both cases, the bad guys mostly got away with it, and the little guys mostly continued to suffer. Seems pretty straightforward and realistic to me.

3. Jeon Ji Won's career at Cha Yeong Woo: as shown by his rather enthusiastic participation in the foreign exchange options case; his continuing at the firm after Ji Yoon's departure; and his explanation to Ji Yoon about why he did not want to be a judge any more, Jeon Ji Won had accepted his fate as the next heartless, soulless Cha ace -- i.e. as Seok Joo's successor. Seems pretty straightforward and realistic to me too.

4. Park Ki Cheol's suit: see 1. above. Since Seok Joo had revealed to the world that the hostess' boyfriend had gone missing after being spotted on CCTV by Park Dong Hyeon's "secretary", the prosecution would probably have started keeping a beady eye on the Park family, the number one suspects with regard to the boyfriend's disappearance. This means that, for all his yelling at Cha Yeong Woo (the only time I felt sorry for Cha), the last thing Park Ki Cheol would have had time for was suing Cha's firm.

As for Seok Joo and Ji Yoon, I am not sure Seok Joo cares about justice as much as truth and logic. One of the reasons why I like the character of Seok Joo so much is that he really hates stupidity, and pointless emotions and idealism, and time-wasting. E.g. when he realised that he could go no further in helping the victims of Yurim Group and the banks, he was upset but just moved on. So I don't really see him with bleeding heart Ji Yoon. The calm, mature and equally cynical Jung Sun is more his type.

Boon Ang Oct 28 2015 1:56 am I agree that this drama started very well and was very engaging. But it fizzled out leaving too many loose ends, especially towards the end. Many situations were left "unfinished". For example, the murder of Park Dong Hyeon, the bank's culpability in the CPs, Jeon Ji Won's career at Cha Yeong Woo, and Park Ki Cheol's suit. Perhaps, the serial was "aborted"? I also thought the narrative somewhat disappointing. I think the story would have ended better if Seok Joo and Ji Yoon became a couple. I thought that usually happens to the two leading roles. But that aside, I think that they would be more compatible as Ji Yoon and the "reformed" Seok Joo had more in common about justice and she was more like his mother who supported his dad's zealous sense of justice - she even gave up her career to follow her values, and Seok Joo. Sorry, I am a romantic.

Rose Jul 02 2015 1:41 am Ji-Yoon has no idea that her girlfriend was dating a married man, I believe. Attorney Kim must have intervened in the situation as he told his sister-in-law, was it?, "that it won't happen again or he took care of it." But the girlfriend that was getting married didn't explain anything to Ji-Yoon and so she got the wrong impression of Attorney Kim. From what I see, he was at the wedding to make sure she got married. And that part never got straightened out within the show between Ji-Yoon and Attorney Kim.

I am watching it for the second time - the lawyer jargon is a lot to figure out at times as the main actors really talk fast. I thought it was a good show

"This drama was original scheduled for 18 episodes, but cut to 16 episodes due to the actor Kim Myung Min is on the set of his “Detective K sequel” by the end of June. (Source)

I kind of think that who ever hit Attorney Kim Seok-Joo with the motorcycle, and that guy he defended for beating up his girlfriend who wanted to end it with him, (can't remember that guy's name right now) and then was killed, might have been someone related to the girlfriend. Or possibly some other case he was involved with. but it is odd the 2 incidents happened close to each otherr. That was never explained either.

Same thing happened with Blade Man - maybe because the ratings were not good for that drama, they cut it short, but it didn't answer some of the questions that needed to be answered . Whether the ratings were good or not they should have finished all the episodes.

I think the part where Attorney Kim was in the hospital was really good and very funny. I never saw him in any other shows, but he is a good actor.

claire murphy May 17 2015 7:03 am What really amuses me is this: for a show that has no central romance, is crammed with legal and financial jargon, and seems to be k-drama's answer to Occupy Wall Street, A New Leaf still did better in the ratings than Naeil's Cantabile, Hyde Jekyll Me, The King's Face and Blade Man. Er, okay, scratch the last one, which was always going to be dubious.

It is disappointing when the creators rush the end of the series. I hate it when it becomes to this! I feel wronged!

jen Aug 02 2014 4:18 am Gotta agree with gasenadi's comment. A lot of viewers and reviewers think the writer went overboard on the themes of corruption etc, and bemoan the lack of conventional closure and even development for the story and the characters.But I respect the writer's decisions, and think that the supporting characters, even when as cursorily drawn as Jung Sun or (especially) Ji Won, came across vividly enough. And while I was initially puzzled by the Baekdoo case kinda hogging the finale (and still wish that we had got more about, say, what happens next for the hero and his friends), I guess it was consistent with the rest of the series in pushing the social, economic and political concerns to the fore. Anyway, maybe it's not really important what Kim Seok-Joo does next -- what's more important is that his reasons for taking the Baekdoo case and his way of dealing with it show that he has finally, genuinely, turned a new leaf.

gasenadi Jul 22 2014 5:40 am The very first minutes of the first episode made clear to me why this drama was cut, with or w/o the KMM excuse. A New Leaf touches consistently on issues of corruption, fraud, lobbying, corporate greed and a messed-up "justice system". YAY! Other dramas I've seen have touched one or two of these lightly, under layers of melo and romance. But none has stayed the course, episode after episode, like this one. And its not just in S. Korea and other countries - "Citigroup has agreed to pay $7 billion to settle a federal probe over its sale of toxic mortgage-backed securities that helped sink the economy and displace millions of people. The deal includes $2.5 billion in relief for those who lost their homes. " (Democracy Now, July 15, 2014) I will definitely rewatch.

huh? Jul 10 2014 9:47 pm Is it only 16 eps? Where is the ending? I kept checking for next ep and didnt realize it had ended....what a waste for this good drama without proper ending!!!

marla Jun 29 2014 3:21 pm Although i watched this drama because of Jin Lee Han, I am so dissappointed! Storyline is quite interesting, so i can leave without seeing so much of JLH in this drama, but it ended just like that....in a haste!

Anyway, everybody acted good in their own way. The drama although good can be more better, i don't think it deserve a high rating but maybe the people who watched it are also not aware that it will just end up just like that. Whew, gotta be careful next time i choose a drama. :(

marla Jun 29 2014 3:06 pm Although i watched this drama only because of Jin Lee Han, the story became interesting to me, All the casts have done their part well but.., it is quite dissappointing that JLH have so little cameos and just as i became interested in the whole story then it have to be finished a nd reading the other comments here, I have learned that they have to cut two episodes just because KMM have busy schedule. What a waste of a beautiful drama, i have already "sacrificed" not seeing so much of Jin Lee Han's acting talent and now i have to just be satisfied that the drama ended just like that....maybe i will be careful next time. It is just so dissappointing. :(

mili boot Jun 11 2014 3:34 pm First, I wanted to watch this drama only because of Park min-young because I thought " wow, since she is the lead here the drama must be amazing " and when I saw the first episode it was really amazing and the second too,and then I said "as I expected the drama is rocking" and the episodes after that had no sens the leads didn't get close and the funny moments were ..., and all the expectations that I made were not found anywhere, I hated Park min-young and It was SUCH A WASTE of time for such an amazing actor like Kim Sang-Joong I wish they kapt him in DOCTOR STRANGER. I think that this drama don't deserve that rating up there, you people why don't you try something else meaningful as TRIANGLE.

Noot Jun 06 2014 2:08 pm Just discovered by chance this show and got immediately hooked to it...it demarks itself from the rom-coms that are proliferating these days and is really enjoyable.(so far at least). Likes the actors but stangely I have started to get irritated by the actress Park MY...got the feeling that she just is not up to the level of the main actor and in some instances it is an abyss...but at least I have to commend her efforts...obviously she would get better..(got so much potential). Anyway I would highly recommend the show and am eagerly anticipating the next episodes.

CICI May 30 2014 5:34 pm I was first attracted to "A New Leaf" because of Jin Lee Han. I think he's a great actor and has become a new favorite of mine. After one episode, I was so glad I found this amazing Kdrama with so many excellent actors and actresses, it's like watching a baseball team with "All Stars". Kim Myung Min is awesome and Kim Sang Joong is giving another powerhouse performance as well. I love Park Min Young and I think she's fantastic here. I am really enjoying "A New Leaf" and whoever did the casting, I say "THANK YOU" for doing a perfect job. The writing is really good so far and I hope it continues to equal the actors till the end.

yeoppo May 28 2014 10:36 am @Megumi though the rating of 'The King of Drama' didn't meet the expectation, this drama is the 1st KMM drama that I watched, that makes me fall in love with his acting. :) After watching TKOF, I started to find his other projects (Beethoven Virus, Bad Family, The White Tower, movies, etc). then I realized that KMM always make every project that he is in a masterpiece. And i love the fact that he does various genre drama/movies that give him challenges (and doesn't care about the rating/popularity things), such a good decision for an actor.

msPeachy May 27 2014 9:33 pm I have always loved crime and legal drama but this is the first Korean legal drama I've watched and so far it's impressive. The cast is great especially the lead actor. I haven't seen this actor before and he is natural and believable. Will have to look up his other projects.

Megumi May 27 2014 6:20 am I was laughing at one of the comment saying Park Min Young chose the wrong drama because the lead actor Kim Myung Min is not a big star, for an actress like PMM i don't think she chose the drama expecting high ratings, the only reason she chose the drama is because she likes the cast, she wants to learn from great actors like Kim Myung Min and Kim Sang Joong, although most international fans might not know much about KMM but he's a very popular and respected actor in Korea, this drama might not attract ratings because it's not a romance drama but KMM's dramas has always been hits, since his breakthrough as a lead in 'The Immortal Lee Soon Shin' his dramas has always been ratings hit, 'TILSS' had an average ratings of 29% and peaked above 30%, his next drama 'Bad Family' which was a comedy drama also had rating that reached 19.6% by the last episode even though the drama didn't have good casts except KMM, then he starred in his most successful drama to date 'The White Tower', not only did the drama had high ratings but the drama bagged him many awards, Producers Award for Best Actor, MBC Drama Awards for Best Actor, highly prestigious Baeksang Award for Best Actor and the list goes on, viewers in Korea were so impressed with his acting in this drama that they gave him the nickname, ' Myung Ming Bon Joa, which means 'True Guru In Acting' in English, after this succesful drama he starred in another hit drama 'Beethoven Virus' which had ratings that exceeded 20%, his role as a maestro in this drama created a sensation in korea known as 'Kang Ma Eh Syndrome' and earned him critical acclaim from critics and viewers alike, the drama also bagged him numerous awards, namely 2nd Baeksang Awards for Best Actor, 2nd Producers Drama Awards for Best Actor, MBC Daesang for Best Actor etc, only after all this hits he had a ratings flop drama which was 'The King Of Dramas', where he played the character of a CEO of a drama production company, this drama was a flop because this was his comeback drama after four years of absence on TV, he had ventured into movies and became very successful in that as well, he had many hit movies than misses, i sincerely hope that some international fans research more on the actor/actress before commenting something stupid about him/her, KMM is highly capable of bringing high ratings and even if he doesn't manage to bring in ratings your favourite PMM will get a chance to learn from the acting guru himself so that she can grow as a good actress, so far whether you believe it or not she gets a lot of criticisms for her acting by local and international fans alike, she's only known for her beauty, i'm sure that PMM is affected by critics and that is the reason why she's looking for dramas not only thinking about ratings but her growth as well, just look at Lee Yeon Hee, she used to be bashed for her acting even though she used to act in dramas that were ratings hit, she took it upon herself and took a challenging role as 'Miss Korea', the drama was a ratings flop but she got so much praise for her acting by critics and viewers alike, fans have to understand that sometimes the actors/actress are not only looking at the ratings but want to get praise from the viewers and critics, they want to be praised for their acting because after all that's their main job. I know this is a long comment but i really wanted to educate that stupid fan who thinks KMM is not a star. I love Seung Gi and all but truth be told he doesn't compare to a great actor like KMM who can not only make himself but his co stars shine through his acting.

From the description I read on wiki about the 4th woman on the series' poster, the description of her character says that: "Chae Jung-an as Yoo Jeong-seon: The granddaughter of a chaebol and Seok-joo's fiancée. Jeong-seon and Seok-joo became engaged after being paired through an arranged marriage. So when Seok-joo wakes up with amnesia and believes that their relationship is built on love, Jeong-seon finds herself pleasantly surprised and gradually learns the true meaning of love."

If the plot really goes this way, we will either get Seok Joo being convinced he is in love with her even though he doesn't remember it, or they might decide to decidedly go in the Kim Seok-joo x Lee Ji-yoon direction in which case Yoo Jeong-seon might not be someone we need to 'worry' about too much ultimately, ELSE, there will not much romance since this is ultimately a Legal drama first...

Mainly watching this because of park min young love her as an actress. she picked a perfect role to be cast in. kim sang joon is my favorite older actor I just love seeing him in dramas.
