Kazuki Yoshinami (Atsushi Ito) is a pharmaceutical researcher at a university. His friend Wataru Kashiwagi (Ren Kiriyama) is also a pharmaceutical researcher at the same university. They are rivals, but talk to each other about their dreams. One day, Kazuki Yoshinami has a groundbreaking discovery. This leads to Kazuki Yoshinami and Wataru Kashiwagi becoming involved in a competition among companies over patents. Newspaper reporter Tomoko Kawahara (Nozomi Sasaki), who is Kazuki Yoshinami’s childhood friend, becomes aware of this.

Grandmalee Oct 25 2021 3:16 pm Not a convincing drama about pharmaceutical scandals, nor do the behaviors of the leading characters make good sense. Kazuki Yoshinami (played by Atsushi Ito with the usual intensity) starts out with the goal of creating useful things (food- or medication-related) for society but turns out to exploit the affection of his private tutoring student and boss's daughter (played by Ryoko Fujino) in becoming a corporate monster. Why is it necessary for him to burn down the warehouse? His childhood friend (and secret sweetheart, played by Tomoko Kawahara) lacks the professional judgement and objectivity as a reporter by obsessing herself with the one case, that is, one sample. Even with 7, is that enough to be legally viable for a court fight? The professor (played by Hideaki Yamamoto) has all the hateful mannerisms of a stereotyped villain. Ren Kiriyama does not have much room in his role to show his acting skills. The one redeeming feature of this otherwise boring drama is Masahiko Nishimura, who plays the CEO with balance. Despite his greed and other faults, his character does not come across as a really bad guy, the kind that probably exists aplenty in the business world, toeing the fine line between legality and profit.
