Plot

Jeon Doo-Gwang (Hwang Jung-Min) is the commander of the Defense Security Command and founder of the secret military club Hanahoe. Over a period of 9 hours on December 12, 1979 in Seoul, South Korea, Jeon Doo-Gwang leads the "12.12 Military Insurrection" and orders the arrest of a general without the authorization from the president. Lee Tae-Shin (Jung Woo-Sung), who is a commander of the Capital Security Command, stands against the military insurrection.

Filming began February 17, 2022.
Movie is based on the true event "12.12 Military Insurrection." The incident took place on December 12, 1979 in Seoul, South Korea.

country bumpkin Feb 14 2025 4:56 am first time i watched a, i dunno what genre this one is, political thriller flick perhaps. The movie is that good, less than half way i feel like want to instigate a coup attempt. lol. The tension built up was awesome, and the pace was like getting faster and faster. I have to stop in the scene where the shooting started, because, somehow, i got so into it. lol. In for Lee Sung Min, but so far, every other actors turned out to be even more captivating. Respect..! btw, this is a fiction right inspired by factual events, but still lots of fictional addition, right? I mean c'mon, Korea is such a well developed matured economy, so no way this took place

The real events took place one year after I moved from South Korea back to the U.S. The movie brought tears to my eyes at seeing so many innocent ROK soldiers die for someone else's power hungry phycology. I couldn't believe that Lee Tae Shin (Jang Tae Wan) was tortured for doing the right thing for his country. Great acting by all!

MR Jun 01 2024 12:38 pm Gripping and suspenseful. Had me hooked from start to finish. I'm unfamiliar with the real-life event so the ending both surprised and broke me. Every country has a dark history. 12.12.1979 wasn't ROK's finest hour but this movie is definitely one of ROK's finest movies. A masterpiece!

Max Feb 14 2024 12:06 pm i read around and president did die and chun did rule for 10yrs or so, but the lead up to his victory was so bad, surreal, level 3-4 managed to turn the tables on all the heads above, just seem nonesense, you might as well said the cleaners kicked the govt as they are many and access etc. I guess the writer didnt know the real reason and just make lots of poor dots to join them. i do not know why it is so good
