When Ko Jung-Woo (Byun Yo-Han) was 19 years old, he was a high school student in Muchon Twon and about to enter a prestigious medical school. But, Ko Jung-Woo was arrested for murdering two female classmates. Ko Jung-Woo could not remember if he committed the murders or not and the dead bodies were never found. After serving 10 years in prison, Ko Jung-Woo returns to his hometown. He decides to leave the area for good and start a new life, but a series of strange things happen around him. He is unable to leave because of this. Somehow, Ko Jung-Woo gets involved with Detective No Sang-Cheol (Ko Jun) and they try to uncover the truth of what happened on the day when the two girls were murdered. No Sang-Cheol was an elite detective, who graduated at the top of the police university. But, on his wedding, his bride was brutally murdered. His life completely changed afterwards and his career was ruined. He was then demoted to the police station in Muchon Town. Due to an incident, he begins to reinvestigate Ko Jung-Woo’s case.

Meanwhile Choi Na-Kyeom (Go Bo-Gyeol) was Ko Jung-Woo’s high school classmate. She has had a crush on him for a long time and she devotedly supported him while he was in prison. Since his release, she dreams of having a happy life with him.

Ha Seol (Kim Bo-Ra) took a leave of absence from medical school. She traveled all around the country on a scooter and she happened to stop at Muchon Town. She ended up staying there, while doing part time work at a restaurant.

"Black Out" takes over MBC's Fri & Sat 21:50 time slot previously occupied by "The Pork Cutlets" and followed by "Doubt" on October 11, 2024.
Based on novel "Snow White Must Die" by German writer Nele Neuhaus (published 2010).
Ep.10 will air Friday, September 20, 2024 instead of original time slot on Saturday, September 15, 2024. The delay is due to the Korean Chuseok holiday that starts on the weekend of September 15th.

He and his family were betrayed and framed by the people they trusted the most. No Sang Cheol (the detective) and Ha Seol are the ones who helped him escape the dark forest, like knights in shining armor. 9/10

Hana Kimi Jul 18 2025 8:49 am This drama is so good, and the plot twists are truly mind-blowing! 9/10 for me! It’s a 9 because they didn’t show how the villain got punished. Because of jealousy and greed, the people you trust and love the most can betray and frame you! It’s so sad to see Go Jung Woo and his family suffer such a painful fate and memories. And I really hate the short detective (Hee Do) — his character only knows how to scream. I honestly want to slap him a thousand times! Such an incompetent police officer.

The show starts with Goh Jeong-woo, a once-promising medical student whose life is shattered after he wakes up from a night of drinking with no memory, only to be accused of a murder he can’t remember. Ten years in prison later, he returns to his hometown, where everyone still sees him as a murderer. The series isn’t about big action or flashy twists. It’s about suspicion, regret, and the way a small town can turn on one of its own.

The acting is solid throughout. Byun Yo Han does a good job as Jeong-woo, looking lost and worn down, but never giving up on finding the truth. Go Bo Gyeol’s Choi Na-gyeom is more than just a loyal friend, she’s the kind of person who quietly stands by Jeong-woo even when everyone else turns away. Her loyalty is touching, but as the story goes on, you start to see another side of her. Na-gyeom’s feelings for Jeong-woo run deep, and her actions sometimes cross the line between support and obsession. This adds tension and makes her a character you can’t easily figure out.

Ha Seol, played by Kim Bo Ra, is a newcomer to the village who works at a local restaurant. She seems like an outsider at first, but as the mystery deepens, she becomes a key part of Jeong-woo’s search for the truth. Ha Seol’s calm presence and sharp instincts help Jeong-woo and Detective Noh uncover secrets that others want to keep buried. She’s not just there for background, her role grows as the story goes on, and she’s one of the few who sees Jeong-woo for who he really is.

What stands out is the atmosphere. The town feels closed in, everyone watching everyone else, secrets hiding behind every polite smile. The show takes its time revealing what really happened that night, dropping clues and letting you guess along with Jeong-woo and Detective Noh. It’s not a show that gives easy answers, and it doesn’t paint anyone as purely good or bad. Even the “villains” have their reasons.

Some viewers might find the pacing slow, especially in the middle episodes, but if you stick with it, the payoff is worth it. The ending ties things up in a way that feels earned, not forced. Black Out isn’t flashy, but it’s quietly gripping. A strong pick if you like mysteries with real emotion and characters who feel like people you might actually meet. Recommended if you don’t mind a slow boiler!

looki May 27 2025 7:24 am i find myself fast forwarding so much. damn i cannot stand how the characters r so hierarchical in the young & old way,so hierarchical in their ranks. it ripples through how annoying they talk and shows how prideful they are. i jst wanna find out who the killers are man, not watch through petty behaviors.But kuddos to the actors who really nailed the characters, bcs man most of them r annoying, its like the whole time they needed someone to blame..thy r really good at acting as annoying human beings??

You're still missing and in love with Da-eun? Seriously, dude? She cheated and slept with another man! Her death was the karma she deserved. Just mentioning Geon-oh and Bo-Young (two loyal friends) would have been enough.

Fearless Sep 29 2024 11:47 am I just got notified of this awesome drama and honestly, it is so binge-worthy. Patiently awaiting the last episode. One aspect of this movie that got me strung on apart from it being a thriller crime trope is the bromance between the two leads... lol... the moment Detective Noh took Goh jeong woo to his house, I already knew we are almost writing a Bl trope.. lol... Nice bromance between them and cool chemistry with the rest of the cast. I, for one ship the detective and Goh Jeong woo...lol.. my opinion.

That Na gyeom ssi... she is just ugh!!

That's terrifying to think that people are really like that. This is true that not everyone who smiles with you is happy for you. The fathers and the kids are all despicable.

Fizzy Sep 24 2024 5:51 pm Choi Na Kyeom and Yang Byeong Moo and the nurse guy are the most evil people in this drama including the Chief Police. Like especially the Chief Police and Choi Na Kyeom (Deok Mi), and I will tell you the reason why. The latter watched the so-called person she claims to love go to jail when he was innocent and didn't say anything for over a decade, if that's not evil then I don't know what is. The chief Police on the other hand prosecuted his best friend's innocent son due to jealousy and inferiority complex. I will also come for the villagers especially the culprits fathers who singlehandedly ruined an innocent boy's life and sucked the youthfulness out of him, even after he served jail time they were still pointing accusing fingers at him. All of them are evil, his friends too that are the culprits went on to achieve their dreams, i just feel so sad for the ML.

Male lead chooses his projects wisely. Misaeng, Mr Sunshine. This drama elevated him to another level.

It is also good that they seem to have made a lot of changes from the source novel so reading spoilers from those who have read the book did not really affected the thrill and suspense in the drama.

This drama is a wonderful lesson on respect for the Creator and Humanity. Black Out is going to become a true classic worth repeating for years to come. God help Korea bring all the more quality like this drama. Congratulations Korea for a masterpiece.

You already know after few episodes who the real culprit is but the writer keeps adding new dramatic scenes even though it’s not necessary. The protagonist, Jungwoo, is very hopeless. He’s not really looking for the evidences because all evidences are coming to him, and he’s acting like he did a lot? How’s even the mother? There isn’t even scenes with her anymore. I hope they will not drag everything

Angela Henderson Aug 29 2024 7:55 pm The US version seems to have a lot of cut scenes from the original and that's not good. It's on Hulu USA and on the 1st episode things shown are confusing. I would like to know why the US version has scenes cut. It's making the whole series so far confusing because a lot seems to be missing. I read a recap of the 1st episode after I just watched it and many of the things mentioned in the recap just didn't happen in the US hulu version. Why even show it if not the full episodes??

Chief is covering up his son whereas he didn't even try to protect his friend's son.

Including the victim's mother considering the recent episode. So in my opinion everyone is guilty lol except the ML

I suspect Han Su Oh, he is either the suspect or the killer...but what I am sure of is that he was there that night the incident happened, because he drew and painted the whole scene. And I think his Detective father is aware, then when I saw the Assembly woman's picture, she was the same person in the drama Longing For You, so I definitely don't trust her one bit. Fingers crossed though, let's just keep watching...just wanted to share my two cents! Then the ML's mother could have actually done better, she never visited her son throughout his 10 years stay in prison. Phew! And sth smells fishy in that community, they never found the bodies of any of the girls, and even the accused and convicted person blacked out and couldn't remember a thing about the incident. I am SAT!!!
