In 2012, Atsuya (Ryosuke Yamada) and his 2 childhood friends do something bad and run into an old general store. They decide to stay there until the morning. Late into the night, Atsuya sees a letter in the mailbox. The letter is addressed to the Namiya General Store and the letter was written by someone to consult about worries. Incredibly, the letter was written 32 years ago. The mailbox is somehow connected to the year 1980. Atsuya and his friends decide to write a reply and place their letter in the mailbox.

Chichigo Mar 12 2019 2:45 am This movie was a masterpiece. The filmography is good, the story is heavy, but not too overwhelming. It just makes you feel warm and emotional. It reminds me of Orange and Kimi no na wa. The emphasis wasn't on the fantasy or sci-fi side, but on the emotions the stories, the characters, and the script were bringing. I'd say this film is one of the proofs that no country could ever beat Japan when it comes to the genre of slice-of-life and drama. Whether it be music, comics, films, or drama series, Japan almost often has this factor that appeals deeply to your emotions or provoke your thoughts.

Janekieyh Jul 19 2018 10:12 am It took me months before I really watched the movie. I binge watch movies w/o really knowing the plot, I just watch it. And even though I have exams tomorrow... I did watch the movie rather than reviewing and studying. (Don't follow me)

I didn't get it at first..... The timeline is kinda confusing..... Yet, I understood the whole timeline transition, I cried at the end. Really, no joke.. I cried. This was a masterpiece.

Definitely a must watch

Ruby May 02 2018 2:25 pm The movie made me feel warm. I just enjoy every scene/ story. And the last will/advice of Mr. Namiya really touched my heart,those were the words I wanted to hear at this very moment. These kind of movies are what we need. I really recommend watching this movie ?

Amanda May 02 2018 10:05 am Wonderful movie... How both the worlds meet... The past meets the future.... The past shapes the future and the future shapes the past... Both Yamada and Nishida well best...Especially liked Nishida... He is always great in whatever roles he plays....

At times,I was confused with the timelines. But,as the movie came to an end,I understood everything....

melody Dec 25 2016 12:48 am Namiya General Store is one of the most heartwarming original novel I ever read. But it consists of 5 tales that connects with one another, it's gonna be difficult to adapt that into a 1.5 hour long movie. I hope they'd do justice to the original novel
