When the door to another world opens, demons exists there. Gu San-Yeong (Kim Tae-Ri), is possessed by one of those demon. Yeom Hae-Sang (Oh Jung-Se) can see the demon which has possessed Gu San-Yeong. They try to figure out the truth behind the mysterious deaths related to the five sacred objects.

Gu San-Yeong is busy working part-time during the day and studying to become a low ranking public officer at night. One day, she receives some articles left behind by her late father. Since then, mysterious deaths take place around her. She also finds herself slowly changing.

Yeom Hae-Sang comes from a rich background. He teaches Korean folklore at a university. Since he was a child, he has had the special ability to see demons in this world. He even saw his mother killed by a demon in front of him when he was young. Yeom Hae-Sang meets Gu San-Yeong and he faces the demon which killed his mother..

Lee Hong-Sae (Hong Kyung) is a lieutenant in the violent crimes investigation team. He only cares about advancing his career in the police department. Due to Gu San-Yeong and Yeom Hae-Sang, he gets involved in mysterious cases.

Alex May 05 2026 5:20 am The character ages make zero sense. In episode 9 during the flashback, the detective Seo Mun-Chun looks like he is in his twenties in 1996 but suddenly ages 20 years by 1999? Why couldn't they just use a different actor?

I watched a lot of thriller kdramas and tend to guess who’s who but this drama made me interested until the end. The acting of the casts are really good, too. Kim Taeri is really a versatile actress. I hope she will land in a fantastic drama very soon.

I really liked it and it kept my attention, there were many moments when I was shocked by the outcome! You expect one thing, and it happens completely differently! That's exactly why I watched the drama in one go, I played the episodes one after the other. All the actors have a perfect game, they were amazing! I am very impressed! I haven't seen a good horror show for a long time, so once in awhile when a great show comes aboard, I always remember to thank the production team and the people behind the curtain as well. They deserve the awards and way more than that actually. Kim Tae Ri was great.

This drama conveys a lot of message, I also relate and see my self with Sang Yeong's character. Specially on the part seeing how privilage her other friends while she is struggling. I feel the same way and ask my self why they are so Lucky to have those kind of things and why can't I have that same Luck. But like in the drama Money can't buy Happiness. Please be Kind to your seld if things get Hard and Difficult. Always remember It Is Not Your Fault.

aeshin Jan 28 2024 9:48 pm I can't describe how insanely good this drama turned out to be. This is easily the best drama of 2023. In terms of plot, acting, casts, everything are just perfect. Kudos to the production team on how they managed a good pacing in just 12eps that are packed with thought-provoking and brilliant twists.

What a performances by Kim Taeri, she definitely deserved the Daesang. She nailed every single roles she had. Fell in love the first time I saw her in The Handmaiden and Mr Sunshine. I think we can considered her as one of Korea's best right now.

Not to mention Oh Jungse, I already knew how good of an actor he is. When you talk about versatillity, it always remind me of him. Absolute massive performances by him but I'm still baffled he didn't win an award for the drama. Like others comments, I too think he got overshadowed by Kim Taeri's. I wish more people can appreciates him more.

Honestly this is the first time I saw Hong Kyung's acting and I already love him. He was great and I thought he also did a fantastic job in his role. His facial expressions and body movements were on point in every scenes. He knows what to do and don't. He definitely has bright future and I'm waiting for his next works.

Honestly, there's only one thing that keeps bothering me in some scenes. It's when there were a running/chase sequences or something big about to happen, they somehow always chose that one goofy background song that keeps replaying over and over in every scenes. It's actually annoyed me and I wish they just put something else or just leave the scenes without any background song. I think that will make it more intriguing and interesting. But that just me though.

This drama is really a masterpiece in storytelling. Probably one of the best drama ever. You should totally watch it!! Thank you Revenant!

L. S. Dec 29 2023 12:56 pm Here after sbs drama award. Don't know what's their standards but after seeing many of the cast got awarded i really hoped they had given oh jung se something. Maybe he was overshadowed by taeri's performance which absolutely deserved daesang but i believe he did the best for the scripted charecter of the professor. As the male lead i hoped his acting had been appreciated more.. Anyway 2023 is about to end and this drama is still the best i watched this year, totally my style.

I love Revenant because of its genre which is Mystery,Thriller but a bit Comedy. The mystery is what keeps me going and finish this drama in 1 day ??. Kim Tae Ri did an amazing job playing Gu Sanyeong i love it when you can tell if shes Sanyeong or The Evil she played it so well!! Oh Jung Se also were amazing in this kdrama. Yeom Haesang is smart, curios, easygoing. I love his character the way he dont even care about all the wealth and decide to live on his own, that what makes is amazing. So Revenant for me is 10/10 im loving everything about it. You guys should give it a try.

Not sure why San Yeong left the room on ep 11. She was successful in keeping Prof. Yeom alive in the train when she locked her self in the room then she left the room causing her mom to almost die.

Steve Aug 22 2023 8:01 pm Well told story with excellent acting. Kim Tae-Ri has established herself as one of the can't miss actresses in Korea today. SPOILER ahead. Despite an overall excellent drama, the last episode was unsatisfying. The writer made a point of highlighting the attraction between San-Yeong and Hong-Sae, but the relationship was left unresolved. The last episode was too rushed to provide a satisfying closure for each character if that was the writer's intention. Highly recommend this drama.

Jubilant Aug 16 2023 7:56 am Impeccable acting, great story, never dragged, and you'll be hooked from start to finish. (contain SPOILERS)

This series really drove home that humans can be a lot more scarier than ghosts. But what's more terrifying in this story is how they kept hiding things from each other. Although I understand their reasoning, it's still a bit frustrating seeing two separate investigations doing and uncovering the same thing.

I love all the characters except for the mom, doing more harm than good until the end. I think my blood pressure went up a few times because of her. A lot of the things that happened wouldn't have occurred if she just told San-Yeong about the freaky things that went on.

But anyway, great job on connecting the stories. They're all connected! Love love love how they already hinted about the ghost not being Mokdo from the first memory San-Yeong saw (putting the hair accessory). I was confused about it since it seems to be the only one not in first POV but it turns out that it was actually!

Great ending, I'm sad for San-Yeong but I'm happy she found her path even if she'll eventually lose her sight. Love the professor and the detective, they're so smart. I'm so tired of the supposed "brains" of the operation always getting trumped by the villains so it's great that we have capable characters like them.

Watching revenant gave me the same feels back when I watched black last 2016. Aside from horror, the mystery is to die for.

SPOILER - thought they would connect Hong sae and San Yeong's past by recreating the moment he helped her walking in the convenience store with the boxes. like instead of the falling petals and the snow, it could have been the glass she was about to throw in the floor... he could have hold her hand like he hold her arms to carry the boxes inside.

I don't usually rewatch a drama (because you obviously know the storyline already), but for this, I think I'm going to keep watching from time to time. Call me biassed, but I really love watching the scenes between Professor Yeom and Sanyeong. I know people are rooting for Hongsae because he's kind of cute, but it feels more one-sided compared to the professor. Just a reminder to those who love horror dramas but are kind of afraid to watch them: Do Not Watch This Drama At Night. You've Been Warned. I watched this in broad daylight, and it scared the shit out of me.

Future kdrama star Jul 31 2023 6:08 pm Kim Eun Hee with another smash hit drama! Her writing is the best! Kingdom, Jirisan, Signal and Revenant. This drama deserve 16 episode but it's really scary so 12 episode is better LOL.

Revenant drama is not for faint heart. It's like son: guest and kingdom which are the scariest drama ever. It has suicide and mature themes.

Kim Tae Ri wow! She played two characters perfectly. Her whole body changed when she was possessed. Amazing acting! The rest of the cast were great too. I think the directing was amazing. I'm still catching my breath from the final episode when Gu San-Yeong is trapped and being chased. I don't feel sorry for the ghost. She is just as bad as the killers.

10/10 highly recommend to watch. Watch in daylight and don't answer the knocking door LOL.

Waiting for the next Kim Eun Hee drama. Waiting for season 3 of kingdom!

Saki Jul 31 2023 2:21 am @ kim . from my from my understanding ( spoiler alert ) Found the body means the ghost will got the new body ( switch place with sanyeong ). To get rid Hyangi, they need to seal 5 object and the right name. Yeom'mother and sanyoung father failed because not only they got the name wrong, but the last object also wrong. The problem is, finding the last object means you'll find the body too ( coz they burried in the same place ). So, eventhough you found the last object , you cant get rid of her because by the time you found it, Hyanggi and Sanyoung will automatically switched. So the only way is to find the index finger and burn it.

With Sanyeong and possessed Sanyeong, KTR has given us two more iconic characters to cheer for and they join the legendary lineup of Na Heedo, Lee Ahn, Captain Jang, Go Aeshin and Nam Sookee. I'm always amazed how KTR transforms with each role and you don't see any trace of past characters. Best actress of her generation indeed!

Rider Jul 30 2023 8:17 am The ending reminded me of Possessed by OCN, which I think was a much better drama as a whole. Viewers didn't like Possessed because of its sudden tragic twist and ending - but what would you expect going against the ultimate evil. Possessed had good characters, humor, love, devotion, sacrifice, and a great OST to boot.

You can still see Possessed on Netflix. Check it out, and then compare it to Revenant. Revenant just seems lacking - I wasn't really drawn to any of the characters.

1. Prof Haesang’s mother might have gotten the 5 items or the name wrong as intended by his grandmother. Sanyeong’s father might have been very close to get rid of the shadow because he’s always like one step ahead of sanyeong and haesang.

However, he mentioned something about his greed and the shadow also mentioned that people always wanted something from her, so I presumed Sanyeong’s father wanted something from the shadow so kept her around until too late to get rid of her. Perhaps it’s wealth. Considering the extremely big house and the inheritance wealth he left for sanyeong.

2. In one scene, the shaman passed a note to haesang’s grandmother on the 5 objects and the name together with the index finger. There is a meaning to this scene. The subtitles have not translated the 5 objects and I can’t read Korean. Sealing the 5 objects should be one of the ways but I’m not sure if the shadow purposely mislead sanyeong and haesang to find her body so that they misinterpreted that hairpin as the 5th element which in fact, is an element for her to switch with sanyeong.

3. Therefore the index finger comes in as an alternative method to get rid of the shadow. Grandmother has hidden this intel until the very last moment before she died.

Already finished final episode just now. But there's something that I don't really get it. In final episode, prof haesang said, the 5 objects and the evil spirit's name will get rid the shadow but since hyangi and sanyeong's shadow switches it will harm sanyeong, if he seals the 5 objects by that time. Does it means that sealing 5 objects was only a trick by hyangi to own sanyeong body and soul? The only way to get rid hyangi is burn/rid the host which is hyangi's finger? And getting rid hyangi got nothing to do with sealing the 5 objects is it? By that means, sanyeong's father and prof haesang's mother were killed because they wanted to get rid the evil spirit and they got the wrong step(which is not by sealing the 5 objects)?

The drama the cursed is also based on folklore Japanese and Korean mythology so there is a blend of shaman elements from the two countries. This drama is also connected to the monstrous drama which is about a cursed Buddha statue. The cursed drama has a sequel to the film called The Cursed Dead's Man Prey

Pimil Jul 03 2023 3:03 pm It is not bad drama per se but for me it has one of the weakest scenario from Kim Eun Hee.

We still can't really totally see full story but I really dislike how cases are introduced and linked with main history. Kim Eun Hee almost always uses this schema: we get glimpse of big intrigue in first episodes and later it is slowly revealed through smaller cases solved by main characters. But she was always good with linking cases natural way. Here maybe because it is first time when main leads don't have investigator type of job everything seems pretty obvious to viewer. Mfl goes to the friend, without much foreshadowing ghost comes out; Mfl sees map after finding place ghost comes out; Mfl touch first book in her father's study in which one town is mentioned, go there and this time ghostS come out lol. I'd expect such obvious scenario from rookie, not famous screenwriter. Where is storytelling and intelligent foreshadowing?

Cases are not the best written as well. I heard that she studied folklore and that's the most interesting part of Revenant but plot of mini arcs are not groundbreaking (maybe because I'm fan of Late night ghost show which I recommend to everyone who want to get to know most Korean ghost/urban legend). It is always about Korean proverb" the scariest are real people". Still I think they'd have some potential if they were better told (especially story with loan sharks). They should focus more on showing what exactly happened with victims.

Besides main duo we have pair of policemen. Older detective doesn't believe in ghosts and suspects Mfl but at the same time he is closed friend to ml so there is no antagonism between them (often used trope to make investigation more interesting, very well written in Kim Eun Hee's Phantom). Both groups works duplicate in many aspects. Just in 4th episode, both found the same newspaper article and they got pretty much the same infos, just from other people. Normally if there are more than one group which investigate, other group should start from totally different place or show case from other viewpoint. Otherwise what's the point of them in the plot? You could cut policemen parts and for now and wouldn't change much except younger detective one sided love to mfl.

And last thing, probably more to blame director, horror genre is not well utilized. It isn't really scary or so mysterious probably because everything is shown so direct and atmosphere is not well build up. Especially past fragments of intrigue should be gold to create eerie atmosphere but everything is shown too fast.

Mostly I can praise cast as their gather extremely talented actors but I feel their work is wasted by so-so scenario and directing. And I thought we'd get another good horror drama which are so rare. It seems to me that Koreans don't feel 100% horror as their culture is pretty down to earth and pragmatic. Maybe again confucianism is to blame lol.They seem to be much more comfortable with thriller genre.
