Seok-Woo (Gong Yoo) is a fund manager in Seoul. He is separated from his wife and lives with his daughter Soo-An (Kim Soo-Ahn). Seok-Woo doesn't spend much time with his daughter or show affection to her. On the night before Soo-An's birthday, Soo-An insists on seeing her mother for her birthday. Seok-Woo has no other choice, but to take her to Busan. Early the next morning, they board the KTX train for Busan at Seoul Station.

Before the KTX train leaves Seoul Station, a zombie like girl jumps onto the train. The girl is infected with a horrific virus that is spreading like wildfire. Seok-Woo, Soo-An and the other passengers on the KTX train must now fight for their lives.

One of the best zombie movie ever (my top 3). I've seen it more than 10x since it got release in netflix malaysia. Storyline, acting, directing, suspense. It is so good and I didn't even know a single cast then. It's bcos of this movie, I started watching all the main cast kdrama/movies to see their consistency. And they are no doubt high quality acting n directing. Korean filmography and acting are truly best in class. They deserve all they hype they're getting today. And I hope they get more investment to rule the movie n drama industry .

My other top 2 zombie movie: world war Z, and shaun of the dead.

This is better than goblin or coffee prince he is total and better in this movie. Overall this is an exciting movie with a unique asian folklore type story plot.

MINKY May 01 2019 3:30 am I watched the whole movie for some reason it did not contain caption for english, but I could still see the graphics and get the jest of what was going on. I will watch it again with closed caption on my friends copy. It had awesome zombies, kind if reminded me of the World War Z zombies, they looked so real, and the background was incredible. Was always something going on, not a slow lagging movie, it was fast pace from start to finish..One thing I had problems with and that was relating with one of the characters. Believe it or not, but I could not get any feeling built up for the little girl. Sorry, but she was just pathetic thru the whole movie, she just was a character I could not warm up to. I felt for everyone in the movie except, the zombies of course and the older guy in the suit who kept throwing others to the zombies to save his ass, and the little girl. In a situation like that it was like it was all about her, instead of being helpful, she moped around all the time , she seemed too needy, and kind of spoiled. I would not have been upset if something had happened to her, sorry to say that, but I felt her Dad had more to worry about keeping them safe, and she seemed to pout alot.Or the plot concerned her feelings more than everbody elses.. I did hate when the pregnant womans man got bit and changed, also when the young man and girlfriend was bit and changed, even when the bum gave his life..Those were characters that I felt for, but I just could not get sympathy for the little girl. But I would rate this movie high as far as zombie movies go, most are stupid and the zombies look cartoonish, but like I said everything was top shelf in this movie, but the One Character.....

Kris Sep 12 2018 1:28 am I was VERY skeptical of watching this film when it initially came out. Mainly because I was unsure of how well a zombie movie would work out. All the previous ones had either disappointed me, or disappointed everyone else. Some had just too much violence and no plot. Others had so much plot that they forgot that they were making a zombie movie, where the zombies became nothing more than meaningless props that made an appearance every now and then. This movie however, was beyond a step up from its nonexistent competition however. The plot was amazing, you could tell that someone worked out every kink in the story. The actors were superb, all of them. The characters were to be expected, but the personality types were executed so well that the previous was easy to skip over. And the ZOMBIES? Brilliant. The zombies didn't feel like props that were thrown out for no reason in the story, they felt like characters. Those zombies, each and every one of them held a story. And as a viewer, I felt as though I were watching people I knew personally-- acting out in such a ( horrifying ) way. Which leads me onto my next point. The connection, that you as a viewer will have with this movie is strong. They don't leave room for painfully obnoxious plot holes or just terribly unrealistic character choices. There is not one point in the movie where you will feel disconnected from this world. To summarize this, because this review is becoming VERY LONG: You will cry. You will smile / laugh in triumph. And after watching this film, you may even start feeling more grateful that you live in the current reality that you do.

Its kinda sad throughout the whole movie because people keep getting turned into zombies.

I expected it was exciting movie but the story continued and it became something different and unique. Relationship among people changed when danger came upon them. Gong yoo changed from selfish to hero while some other people just cared for themselves. The sisters were lost. sigh! Final scene and song just touched everyone. Sacrifice! Will we do that? I don't know. Zombie just provided background for revealing human true nature no matter it is good or bad. You just can't forget this movie.

And even not bother their life but helps the people who are in big trouble. The negative rolled by hero Kim Eui Sung really a selfish man, instead of saving/helping others life he drag other's life in danger. Its not a good man or hero. Thinking positive is best solution and helping the poor and trouble people will one day filled with full of peace and happiness. This is true. I salute the father like Gong yoo and Ma dung Soek acting as a hero in this movies.

jinjoo Jun 13 2017 12:39 am at first i was not keen bc of scary bloody scenes which i thought were kinda brutal but wow it really got me going and at the edge of my seat while watching this movie! what a gr8 production and Gong Yoo and the child actress were amazing! sad in a way he didn't survive after what he'd been through as well as the husb of the pregnant woman! it deserved to win in cannes film festival! 2 thumbs up waaay up! am glad i stayed through the end to watch it and didn't regret it! i highly recommend this movie, one of the best k movies made!

I specially like how it also touches on morality, and gets me to thinking "what would've I done?" in their situation. However, it's a thriller movie and that's it, don't expect to find out what's the virus, how did it start, what the cause/effect, etc. Basically, there's a zombie outbreak and may the luckiest guy/s survive.

As you learn more about the characters, you begin to fall in love and become attached to them, which makes it harder for you to let go of their character if something happens to them.

Good cast, unique story line... definitely worth the watch.

Thrilling, breathtaking, heartbreaking..It got me from crying to getting off my seat to crying again. The little actress is a phenomenon actress. Her cries ripped my heart apart. Gong Yoo delivered amazing acting. I'm becoming a fan. Choi Woo Sik was wonderful. I felt his heart. Everyone did so well. This is an outstanding movie, seriously.

Those scared of a zombie apocalypse need not worry America's the best place to go to. Zombies are staying clear of the red states that voted for the nation's new President, the brain-eating monsters figured they'd starve over there for lack of brains, jk.

Ozmo Oct 23 2016 5:37 am This is an amazing movie. The direction and cinematography were right on point. Certain scenes were deliberately underplayed which made them more dramatic. Wonderfully done! Gong Yoo never fails to deliver, he's one of Korea's finest actors, if not the best. The extras really need a mention, well done. Casting must have been on the lookout for anyone with loose joints who could distort their bodies. Fantastic! Whether you like the scary type of movie or not ... don't miss this one. Brilliant!!

I wish all of these articles would stop posting things like that and making it seem like it's a fact when it obviously isn't. If you read something that says that there will be a sequel it's probably fake unless it has been confirmed by the writers/producers of the first movie. People are going around and making fake Twitter accounts of Gong Yoo and are posing as him. They even went as far as saying that there would be a part 2. Gong Yoo's agency made a statement saying to be cautious of fakes because Gong Yoo does not have any social media accounts. So, no it has not been confirmed that there will be a part 2 to the movie.

mix Sep 27 2016 5:47 am Where did the virus/infection came from? Did it came from Gong Yoo's nuclear plant? Because in the first scene, the guards said that the plant is being sanitized that's why they don't want to let the truck driver pass, but still they let him. Then the driver hit a deer, and it suddenly became a zombie. When Gong Yoo and his daughter took the train, Mr. Kim kept calling him saying that there's a situation and he ignored him. And in the last parts, they talked again thru the phone and Mr. Kim told him that it's because of they plant why it all happened. Im not sure.

I think we can all agree that Ma Dong Seok's character was the best. This movie shows how far a father will go to protect his loved ones. I'm gonna cry just thinking about it.. It was the first movie about zombie that made me cry and it was the first zombie movie that i saw where the characters didn't use any guns to kill the zombies, instead they fight the zombies with their hands. It shows the real thing that will happened if there's a real zombie in this world. It was a unique and brilliant piece of movie. I so love it!

Bang Bang Sep 16 2016 7:47 pm I am not sure with this but at the beginning remember the part where the father told his worker to sell it (i dont know what but i think its the virus but they thought it was ordinary chemical)? i think that was where the virus started. Well the worker did said it might be risky.well remember the dude driving the truck? then a guard told him that his truck is leaking? that is maybe after the selling chemical happened. then the driver of the truck hit a deer right? the deer was supposed to be dead but since there was chemical leaking from the truck the deer became a zombie. If all of this is MAYBE true.. Then the one who started the apocalypse is the father.. But anyways I hope that there will be a sequel where the pregnant girl and Suu Ann lived together while her father still remembers her.

yybb Sep 15 2016 11:08 am The Zombie its kinda similiar to world war z movies (their look, their movements, etc). The story is great but i think its too fast. i'm mean they should explain more about The Infection. On the other side of the movie i see it's so realistic about how you can survive and how the peoples react around you, although I find there are some scenes with a facial expression that does not conform. The ending is so very touching. i think it's good that not all movies like this will be happy ending despite most of the people hope it will be. However it's still a great movie and has international standards but still have room for improvement.

Truth Sep 12 2016 3:45 am It was predictable, but with that said, there were characters you could make connections to, it was an emotional thrill ride, though I didn't like that there was one clear villain that didn't have anything going for him. Also the ending doesn't give us a clear indication of what happens to the little girl, although we know she's save, there isn't any true indication of whether or not she meets this mother that this train ride through hell was for.

The storyline is superb, as good as hollywood movies and it has a typical korean drama/ movies storyline, which is more to emotional, relationship kind.. But the ending seems incomplete to me.. It didn't show how the Busan after the zombie outbreak... But still, i love this movie..

Oh yeah, I just knew that the evil and selfish old man in this movie is the same person in W, Oh Yeon joo father.. Man, his role is really a troublemaker in both show.. hehehe...

Not much character development.. if one were to cut out 50 minutes of the middle and just paste the beginning and ending together, it would probably be the same movie. no climax, and the only emotions felt were progressing anger towards the antagonist. Wonderfully executed by Yu-Mi, Gong Yoo, and Kim Soo- Ahn, however! Its a shame that the movie didnt bring justice to their acting.
