In 1987, university student & pro-democracy movement member Park Jong-chul is captured by the police. He is then tortured to death. The police and government try to cover up the case of Park Jong-Chul, but the media and university students try to reveal the truth.

Movie is based on the true story of Park Jong-Chul.
Kim Yun-Seok, Yeo Jin-Goo and director Jang Joon-Hwan previously worked together in 2013 film “Hwayi: A Monster Boy.”
Filming began April 20, 2017 and finished August 27, 2017.

I am used to watch Korean historical/epic and Japanese-Korean time movies and never had I known that Korea has also experienced a revolutionary change in government/politics. This is such an inspiring event and I can't help but compare this with the Philippines People Power Revolution in February 22–25, 1986. I was then in third year college when the news of a military coup d'état lead by the military general and the defense minister broke early morning and my concern then was, will there be school/classes that day? Because it was our mid-term examination. It was early Monday morning, me and my sister despite the chaos that's happening in the city-streets, we managed to go to school. While the Cardinal has called for people to come out and pray and rally to support the rebel soldiers to prevent a bloody encounter,... me and my fellow classmates were in our classroom taking the exams. Our professor said, "let them be, mind your future, the revolution will not help you earn your degree". (Tuition fee was then too expensive and I was studying through academic scholarship -can't afford the risk.) Anyways, the difference between the People Power of the Philippines and the People Power of Korea is that Korean has now turned and become a very progressive rich country and now one of the leading power country in the world while Philippines has deteriorated - poorer than before, weaker than ever, more corrupt than it was. Korea's revolution brought a positive change while Philippine revolution brought despair, poverty, corruption and very heavy traffic!

MalibuDar Jan 07 2018 7:07 pm Just got back from the theater and I'm still feeling it. Great storytelling and movie making. The fact that it only happened 20 years ago is remarkable. I also wanted to clap at the end of the movie, but the entire theatre was quiet, in that respectful way when you've just witnessed history. And the images over the credits really put a cap on the whole thing. I was keenly aware that this theater was filled with Koreans watching their own history, some of the younger ones for the first time. It was chilling to realize that. Anyway, even without the history, it's just good filmmaking.

HS Dec 27 2017 8:29 am Just watched this— it’s an epic film that does good justice to the solemn historic events by conveying them in a honest straightforward fashion. There are few movies that keep Koreans on their seats while the ending credits go up and this is one of them. Little doubt this is going to be on every list of recommended Korean films for at least a few decades. If anyone needs an introduction to contemporary Korean history, I’ll recommend nothing other than this without hesitation.

I'm thinking it's going to be very similar to "the Attorney". A true story, with some dark violence, but great meaning to the film.
