After the dethronement of Gwanghaegun, the country's best swordsman Tae Yool (Jang Hyuk) vanishes. Joseon itself is in chaos due to the conflict between Qing and Ming Dynasty. Gurutai (Joe Taslim) is a member of the imperial family of Qing. He makes unreasonable demands upon Joseon. Under this situation, Tae Yool’s daughter Tae Ok (Kim Hyun-Soo) is taken by Gurutai’s subordinates. Tae Yool picks up his sword again to save his daughter.

Norik BC Jul 25 2022 8:43 pm I just watched the Swordsman with my all time favorite talented , handsome Jang Hyuk the Great (my nick name for him) . Once again and again he amazed me with his acting skills . I highly recommend this movie , just so you can witness an accomplished seasoned actor in action. Other members in the cast were also highly commendable. You will see more action than dialogue, however the story is so intertwined with the expressions and artistic actions that it doesnot necessitate much of a dialogue. Bravo to the director, writer, scenery and the super cast . I Highly recommend this movie where you can see Jang Hyuk , a super talented and seasoned actor plus many others in their acts .

jojoanna Oct 08 2021 1:15 pm Just watched this series because of Jang Nyuk. As usual Jang Nyuk is one amazing actor. In this movie, his eyes and feelings speak louder than words. Am so glad Gurutai is dead. Gurutai lost it when the western girl of his got killed. When Gurutai took Tae Yool's daughter...Gurutai should be prepared what will happen to him. Gurutai knows taking Tae Yoo's daughter will make Tae Yoo mad. To me the highlight of the movie is when Gurutai died in the hands of Tae Yoo... not so much the rescue of Tae Yoo's daughter. Am glad Hwa Seon and her bodyguard help Tae Yoo. Kudos to Jang Nyuk for another fantastic acting

A young Tae-Yul is shown riding away with a baby in his arms, depicted as perhaps the overthrown king's daughter. Later, in the grand finale sword fight with Gurutai, he states that "his daughter is his nation", i.e. she is the Queen.

Did anyone else conclude the same?

It should be released sooner, so the audience reaction could be even better. Unfortunately, this film was released to the cinema during the Covid-19 pandemic.

HV Dec 06 2020 1:08 pm Wow!!! That was beautiful. I have not seen fight choreography sequences like these in Korean films since Six Flying Dragons. The storyline was clear enough for the limited timeframe and Jang Hyuk, as always, was fantastic.

This was the Joseon version of the film series, Taken. “Be very careful who you mess with”
