Jang Tae-Jun (Lee Jung-Jae) graduated from the Korean National Police University and worked as a detective. He wanted to gain more power and decided to work in the National Assembly. Now, he is the chief aide to a 4-time lawmaker. He has excellent intuition, a cold-blooded decisiveness and a strong desire to win. He was able to place his lawmaker in the position of the party representative, but Jang Tae-Jun has higher ambitions.

Meanwhile Kang Seon-Yeong (Shin Min-A) is a first year lawmaker who got elected through proportional representation and is a spokesperson for her party. She worked as a lawyer and hosted a current affairs TV program prior to becoming a lawmaker. She is ambitious and does her job well. Kang Seon-Yeong and Jang Tae-Jun are also secretly dating.

wntrina Apr 05 2022 7:04 pm this drama is just too underrated. maybe it's because k-drama watchers rarely dives into politics plot/storyline, they miss this gem. I'm that kind of person who don't sit to watch romcom cause I skipped a lot of its scenes but when it comes to law/crimes and poltics dramas? you'll see me with my snacks.

ok first, the male lead is so different from those usually too kind-soft hearted ones. he knew being involved in politics is not something where you can stand with justice. everybody plays dirty cause who wants to lose their position? everyone wants to rise up in rank even more that they're willing to do Anything! even taking lives. though, yes, I do get pissed off with his antics every episode of how he risked his collagues lives (two at that) I mean it's not cause of him they died but half of his conscious plays part. he deserves to get punish with those dirty assbags politicians.

now here comes kang seonyoung. she, oh my god she is The Queen. said what I said. she separates her personal and work life. even when she got critiqued being a 'woman' by those old fossils she still stands tall. her character was written beautifully. I especially loved her in ep 10, where she's not afraid to speak about her view on abortion law. she didn't want to risk the teenage girl's life that she went up there to the debate to fight! what a brave woman she is. honestly, she is just too good for tae jun. hyewon too. both of these girls deserves someone better ok!

Missed again my stop. Over shot to Marymount. Finally got it right on my 3rd ride. Decided to watch the other ep at home ?

And i think that, it is between Song Hui Seop and Sung Young Ki will be the culprit. And i think Tae Joon will successfully done his goal, that's why he'll get ambushed. And that's the sad part. Chief of Staff is now on my list of my favorite kdramas. Kudos to all people behind it.

^ haha.. No, he doesn't have a sister. But yes, since his debut, people always say that he and Han Ga In look like siblings. He went to many variety shows and dressed(?) as the male Han Ga In. Funny fact that he once met Han Ga In's husband and he was so shocked and panic and he saw Dongjun from a far. I laughed hard at that moment.

Btw, he does have an older brother who lives in Australia.

Politics is a dirty game which you must compromise with evil that is if you wanted to make a real change but staying good is selfish cos that's just saving your own conscience which you wont make any real change just like Lee min sung cos good and evil are relative concept no one is pure but still if jang tae jun really murdered ko seok man then that is beyond reasoning as for all the rest of his decision's I am 100% with him because killing a friend for the sake of political ambitions those are traits of a monster not just a grey area politician. I hope the next 10 episodes are more thrilling than the previous season

Tara Jul 07 2019 7:41 am @Leena: Try watching eps 5 & 6 and see if you change your mind, because it starts getting REALLY intense in those eps (the first 4 eps are also intense imo, but probably not as much as the next ones).

For those wondering why there are only 10 eps, there will be a second season!

Leena Jul 06 2019 2:36 pm I watched the first four episodes, but unfortunately this drama did not manage to win me over - which is strange, considering the plot sounds quite intriguing. It's simply that none of the characters particularly speak to me, and that even though Jang Tae-Joon schemes a good deal and struggles with his own morals, he does not have enough of an edge for me to get invested in what happens to him. 6/10

Aide Jun 28 2019 7:38 pm I am not into political dramas but the cast has drawn me in! Lee Jung Jae and Shin Min Ah are such visuals. Great pairing and I love how they help each other out in their careers. But... I fear how long this will last! This drama has me on the edge of my seat at the end of each episode. Not your useful fluffy drama but it's definitely worth the watch!

It seems strange that the review score is below 80. I enjoy Mr. Oh especially. He is bad but not completely bad. Tae Joon is good but not completely good.

There was a scene when Han Do kyung was remembering how Tae Joon was the only man who had faith in him.. a hospital scene. So why was he so clueless about him? His looks clearly stated he doubted Do Kyung being Mr Oh’s man!! Plus i hope Tae Joon doesn’t backstabs Ms Kang :( she keeps telling him she is there for him. And she proves it too....

Though I must admit SMA is pretty good in this drama, LJJ is the one who shines the most (not to mention he's very charming, though his look is not really my type). Also, pay more attention to the writing, people! I'm not usually into political dramas, but this one got me hooked right from the start.
