Yeon Ji-Young (Lim Yoon-A) is a French chef with a cheerful and determined personality. One day, she wins a French cooking competition, but she somehow finds herself transported to the Joseon era. She happens to serve her food to King Yi Heon (Lee Chae-Min) of Joseon. He is the worst tyrant who wields absolute power. He does have extraordinary sense of taste. He is able to taste differences of food when even the weather changes. He happens to try Yeon Ji-Young's food and likes what she made. He decides to take her to the royal palace and have her cook for him. Yeon Ji-Young, who was offered work at a Michelin 3-star rated restaurant in Paris, finds herself working for the tyrant King Yi Heon and presents fusion royal cuisine just for him.

Meanwhile, Kang Mok-Ju (Kang Han-Na) is King Yi Heon's concubine. She is greedy and hides her endless ambition for power. Prince Jesan (Choi Gwi-Hwa) is a member of royal family. He is the most powerful political enemy of King Yi Heon.

Based on web novel "Yeonsankunui Chefro Salanamki” by Park Kuk-Jae (published October 5, 2022 - August 31, 2023 via Naver).
Actor Park Sung-Hoon was first cast to play the lead male role of King Lee Heon, but he was involved in controversy after posting on December 30, 2024 an explicit image from a parody AV video of the Netflix series "Squid Game" on his Instagram Story. Following that incident, production company Studio Dragon and Park Sung-Hoon came to the decision to have him step down from his role in the drama series.

CHOI Jan 26 2026 9:35 am Absolutely loved this Kdrama. Excellent acting, especially from Lim Yoon-A, who was utterly convincing as a highly proficient chef, and very funny too. Great ensemble piece all round really. This had all the really excellent qualities that I have come to expect from high-level Korean dramas. Unlike some other commenters I found the narrative entirely engrossing and the parts involving food extremely interesting and actually exciting. I do get the feeling that people who don;t like it wanted it to be completely different - I'm judging it on whether it succeeded in what it set out to do, and that's a complete success. Apart from anything else I will at least try watching anything with Lim Yoon-A in now.

Sorry I really don't get what was nice about this drama with making food, recipes and drawings of food.... as the main theme...

And I am not giving a better review despite of excellent cast - the script was boring...

irish Dec 29 2025 10:21 pm I’m glad this drama turned out to be good and not just overhyped because of the leads. The episodes are long but they’re not boring. I just wish they had shown us how Lee Heon was able to clear his name after Jiyeong disappeared. Thank God Lee Chaemin ended up playing the king! I don’t think it would have hit the same if it had been played by Park Sunghoon

William Dec 05 2025 12:21 am This show was really good until the last two episodes. The female lead became a tragically stupid character and the King became just as idiotic. The stupidity of the actions damn near made me forget what made the first 10 episodes good..

There must be an award for writers who are this terrible at coming up with a sound ending. It didn't have to be perfect, but to make the characters insufferably dumb i ruined the show!

Mae Phils. Dec 02 2025 5:42 am I watched Bon Appétit without expecting anything. I wasn’t even familiar with the male lead at first, but as the episodes went by, I was genuinely amazed by him. His acting was so natural and powerful that it completely drew me in. I even caught myself searching for his other series because I wanted to see more of his work. But honestly, he absolutely nailed it in this drama, his performance made the whole show unforgettable.

The actors are unquestionnably very good. But the story line is dragging specially on the first 3 episodes

Theresa Oct 24 2025 3:41 am Seriously one of the best Kdramas I’ve watched recently - especially in the historical/fantasy genre. I don’t usually watch sageuk unless it comes highly recommended, and yes Bon Appetit Your Majesty didn’t let me down.

We know it’s a fantasy with time-travel, but it’s also rich with historical details, clever references, lol moments, inventive cuisines and of course heartfelt romance.

Being a rookie, Lee Chae‑min’s acting really impressed me (I remember him from a small role in Crash Course in Romance). And Yoona (still love her in K2) was just a sweetie. Their chemistry was honestly great despite the 10 year age gap.

Sure, some viewers including me found the ending a bit rushed and under-explained but after all it’s fantasy, and who doesn’t want a happy ending ?

Kdrama Llama Oct 18 2025 11:29 am The fact it’s mostly a period / time travel fantasy drama meant I was a little unsure what the expect but I was curious after reading some of the early reviews… This was such a fun watch and it had lots of genuinely laugh out loud moments, mostly related to food and facial expressions. Lee Chae Min has reached 1ML status now and there’s no going back now, he was wonderful here as the entitled but vulnerable king and Yoona was again not the typical female lead, but as usual, she really delivers. I loved Yoon Seo-a too and her nose! My only grumble was the super quick wrap up and unexplained plot hole at the end (you’ll know it when you see it). Give this show a watch, you won’t regret it, it’s * chefs kiss *

It’s my first time seeing Lee Chae Min, and I must say, he’s an impressive actor for a rookie. He truly fits the role of a king — from his strong, masculine presence to his deep, commanding voice. I was especially moved by his emotional scenes; when he cried in anger, his tears fell so naturally that my heart ached for him every time.

I’ll definitely be watching out for his future projects.

Jia Oct 11 2025 1:19 am The show itself is enjoyable, but there's so much plothole and i feel like the writing is a bit lousy on some parts that could've been well prepared. A lot of the time things feels repetitive and rushed. By episode 3 i decided to turn my brain off just to watch it without actually thinking too much about how much doesn't make sense and are created for entertainment purposes lol. 7/10 from a personal standpoint.

Then gong gul Was just useless because as the spy he was supposed to have discovered most of it and prevented it. She she running faster than the uncles sword. Hmmmmmm. If it's Indian film we'd laugh but oooh it's K-drama, it's still not allowed. Good drama but terrible ending.

Rain Oct 06 2025 12:19 am I just hope, the production team or the writer of the novel collect and publish all the recipes that are cooked in the series, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, even the dishes that were made by the Mings. Please make it as a book titled Mangunrok and include photos of his majesty’s reaction to each dish and complete the look of the book with the Jade butterfly ornament/pendant. That would be a nice souvenir from the series and I will be the first in line to purchase it.

Chris Oct 05 2025 10:59 am Loved the drama, but I cannot stand the character named Yu Kun (Kim Hyung-Muk)-Ming Envoy’s group, trying to speak Mandarin. Other characters were also trying to speak Chinese but theirs is more accurate, while Yu Kun’s Chinese speaking is utter rubbish with no sense, hence that is just disrespectful.

All in all a good romance kdrama 7/10

Her villain roles make me want to jump into the screen and fight back for the main lead. Yet in variety shows, she’s completely different, so fun and lovable. She’s seriously underrated. I really hope she gets more projects because her talent deserves the spotlight Yoona and Chae Min did really well on their roles too. My only question is where did Cook Yeon's phone go? Lol

I sat down to watch it and I became consumed with joy looking forward to watching episode after episode and then when I could, every time I came home. As the plot unfolded and they cooked that lovely food, I was scribbling notes. It made me really smile and laugh with joy, especially when the food was eaten, I had an emotional connection. A beautiful story about love, food, royalty, the music, the martial arts. It was fantastic. I will watch it again. Well done to everybody involved.

Lim Yoona, she performed her role very well. It doesn't look stiff at all or crispy. SHe's very good. Read chaemin. This is the first time I've seen him play. It turns out to be no less good. He portrays the character of a good, funny and also assertive king. As well as the players of palace chefs. The point is that everything is playing very well. This drama is not too sadistic. A historical drama that I like. Rate from me 10/10.

First time in my life I had to wait weekly, looking forward to watch a series being aired. The food scenes, the visuals and the leads chemistry kept me hooked. There were times I smiled, laughed really hard and cried... I wish for another fun drama like this. I would really miss Bon Appétit

I absolutely LOVE Bon Appétit, Your Majesty! It’s such a fun and entertaining K-drama. I can’t stop watching! The storyline keeps me hooked, and the visuals are just beautiful. Yoona is my absolute fave (as always !), and Le Chae Min?? His talking eyes say everything without a word ... so expressive! The chemistry, the comedy, the food scenes… everything is just aww.

He suits the role perfectly, and it really brought out the best in him. He truly leveled up to be a leading man — charismatic, natural, and someone you can root for. Hats off to the entire cast, especially Yoona and Lee Chae Min! Their chemistry was everything! So natural, so heart-fluttering, and it made every scene they shared unforgettable.

Lee Chae Min completely amazed me with his acting. He brought so much emotion into his role that I ended up crying buckets. I can confidently say this is my favorite drama of Yoona too! She was truly phenomenal and once again proved why she’s such a queen on screen.

I’ll really miss every single character: the royal cook’s squad who made every food scene so much fun, the king’s royal taster, the loyal advisor, the king’s best friend, the king’s guards, the hilarious jester, and the brilliant inventor. Each of them added so much life and charm, making the drama even more special.

If only there were 16 or even 20 episodes, I would have happily watched more! For me, Bon Appetit Your Majesty deserves a perfect score. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants a drama filled with heart, laughter, tears, and unforgettable performances. And let’s not forget…the food! Every single dish had me drooling and craving a feast after every episode. Kudos to the team and to all cast for this masterpiece!

He was kicked off the throne he was hated so much and his brother took over the throne. Once I read up on him I found it hard to warm to his character in this series, which is made much more sympathetic. Oh and his mother was no little innocent either, she was a killer! Yikes, those were dark days in Korean history. I like the acting and the production values here, just wish they had chosen a better King for her to travel back in time to meet. Lol

He was casted just 10 days before the Filming but is proving to be quite an explosion in the show. You don't have to discredit someone because of the age. Some of the best Korean dramas ever made have been Noona Romances (such as Faith with Lee Min Ho). Generally only immature or newbie Korean drama fans seem to object to them, which is pretty shallow, unfortunately. Never reject a drama because the lead female is older than the male lead. Korea often does that, fyi, because it's wise to pair up an experienced actress with an actor newer to the profession who needs to learn from the best to improve his performances. :)

Bad casting and has put me off watching as it won’t be believable.

There is a list of at least 20 Korean actors between 35 and 41 you could have chosen. Shame as now I've lost interest. It’s supposed to be a romance.

Probably nothing Yoona has ever done or will ever do will replace my long time sentimental love for two of her early dramas, Love Rain and The Prime Minister And I, but I am willing to watch anything she chooses to do because she's just a perfect actress and always glows with beauty and intelligence on screen.

Besides, the writers seem to start running out of ideas, too many cliches in nowadays drama. Rarely seen stuffs on the same level as the Reply series or the likes. After so long, this was the first drama I watch. No need to overthink, I quite enjoy this one, it's light and funny and entertaining and I like Yoona's acting, so all is good imo.

We cannot expect less from Director Jang Tae-Yoo, who is known for his attention to detail, cinematography and direction. Yoona always delivers her best performance. Lee Chae-Min surprises us with his strong performance as the king. The entire cast stands out too. All these are the recipe for the success of this drama.

In comparison with other reviews, I especially enjoyed the scenes focused on cooking and dish presentations; as they are the theme of this series. They are all carefully crafted and visually appealing. I hope there will be a recipe book being released in association with this drama.

You know that you watch a good drama if you cannot wait for the next episode.

Anyways, I just finished episode 4. Someone in the comment below is right. Its all about cooking. Too much talk about food, you cant see the characters development. Still acceptable though since the title itself does implied that. BUT the outcome is always predictable. For an example, he would always loves her cooking since its tasty and extraordinary! And his reaction with the background effect and everything reminds me a lot to The Haunted Palace. I cant help watching and keep on comparing.

So far what I get from this story is, its basically about a man/tyrant with a mommy issue. I cant feel any romantic attraction between the main lead. He just likes her because the food that she made reminds him of his mother? Come on.

It is a recording not only for recipes but also his inner loniliness.Every dish she cooks seems strangely familiar to the king, as if he has already tasted them… but only in his dreams. It turns out she is destined to be part of the king’s life, and the book was her guide all along. Somehow, her copy of the book survived through time and brought her back. She may have been summoned by the king himself through his writings. The eclipse isnt random, it is cyclical,it will happen again. But the next time it happens, she must choose, return home to the modern world, or stay in Joseon with the king. To make the choice harder, maybe her modern life isn’t as fulfilling as it seems, and the king though a tyrant, begins to soften because of her food. Each recipe in Mangunrok isn’t just about food, it has magical properties like healing, love, memory, even control. The king wants the book for power, but she realizes it could change history itself depending on how she cooks. The tyrant reputation of the king maybe false, but rather a mask to protect his kingdom.In the end, after living in Joseon, her own experiences and recipes become Mangunrok, which is the very book she read in the plane. It’s a time loop,she was always the chef in the story. The Mangunrok book in her possession begins adding new recipes that aren’t in the version she read on the plane, as if recording their journey in real time. She discovers the note “My dearly beloved, if you were to read this someday, may you come back to my side.” It hints at fate, suggesting maybe the book was meant to bring her in joseon era. And the king softens he begins to rule with more fairness, influenced by her compassion. This is just a possible twist of the story.

Usually, time-travel dramas can be stressful because it’s hard to follow where characters are, but here the pacing was perfect—she discovered things neither too quickly nor too slowly. The actress playing the girl is fantastic and really elevates the series.

Unlike many K-dramas where romance takes forever to develop, here the romance is already strong and well-balanced. The mix of hate-to-love and genuine care is very engaging—you can see how he always looks out for her, helps her when needed, and wants her by his side. Both sides of the romance feel natural and balanced, which makes it feel real and enjoyable.

Overall, this series is gold from the very first episode and has kept me hooked through episode 2.

Seems there are a lot of haters here. It is not Lee Chae Min's fault that Park Sung Hoon didn't end up as ML, even if Park Sung Hoon would have been great for the role. Upon his withdrawal someone has to do it. Stop hating... If you don't like the drama or the actors, move on to the next drama, after all there are a lot of dramas out there. It's not necessary trashing the leads, it's just acting for goodness sake.

VL Aug 26 2025 12:05 am Looks like there are a few Park Sung Hoon supporters here. Actually me too! Lee Chae Min did a great job but I find myself always imagining Park Sung Hoon in every scenes. In terms of voice tone and body language, I think Park Sung Hoon fits better. Which was why he was offered the role initially, right? And I was so looking forward to his performance in this drama. Unfortunately, due to a small scandal, he was replaced. Still enjoyed the drama so far, light and fun. And the ending OST is great

I don't see the age different as an issue. That young King needs an older woman to teach him better manners! Yoona did that very well! Both of them are entertaining and act well! Beautiful production! Hwaiting for the rest of the episodes!

Lee Chae Min was giving justice to the role (amen to that) but there's just no chemistry with Yoona. Probably, because of the age gap. I mean Yoona, Park Sung Hoon and Kang Hanna! the show will totally be on fire.

I dont know if I can finish the drama without seeing PSH. He was like the 'ghost' in this drama Nonetheless, this is just my personal feelings and opinion.

April Aug 25 2025 12:41 pm This KDrama is loosely based on the real monarch, the tyrant Yeonsangun. After watching the drama, I was kinda worried about it because it's like an attempt to give a better light for yeonsangun, so thankfully, they change the name of the characters, even Noksu became Mokju.

It's a good start so far, but my heart can't help but be sad for Park Sung Hoon, this drama is supposed to be his biggest break. I know he's the best fit for the role. But I must commend Chaemin, I'm so shock that he's pulling off a character like this. Although age gaps are obvious, I'm ignoring it cause he's a great actor too. I'm so excited for the next episodes!

I can’t help but feel it was just a miscast, and still think it was wrong to let Park Sung Hoon go, he would have been perfect and clearly it was written and casted after they brought him on. I mean did you see the queen?But I liked the first two episodes we will see!
