Lim Jin-Joo (Chun Woo-Hee), Lee Eun-Jung (Jeon Yeo-Bin) and Hwang Han-Joo (Han Ji-Eun) are best friends and they are all 30-years-old.

Lim Jin-Joois a drama series writer. She has emotional ups and downs. Her personality is a bit unique. Even though she is a drama series writer, she tries to write her scripts with a literary style. She also makes conversation with a luxurious bag in a shop window.

Lee Eun-Jung is a documentary director. She has enjoyed documentaries since she was a child. She runs her own production company and she is the only staff member in the company. One of her documentaries becomes an unexpected hit.

Hwang Han-Joo is head of a marketing team for a drama series production company. She is a single mother. Hwang Han-Joo struggles to balance her work and raising a kid.

Kdrama Llama Jun 04 2026 2:41 pm This is probably the funniest Kdrama I’ve ever watched that goes far beyond, but also includes, fart jokes... I loved the three female leads (and the brother) and their relationship as well as the relationships they develop with their different love interests. The meta moments of a show that’s about writing a show, including a great skit about the difficulties of product placing massage chairs in scripts, were perfection. Watch it, you won’t regret it!

GM Apr 17 2026 8:30 am I’m glad I finally watched this drama. It’s beautifully written and acted out. I love the stories, except for that of Jaehun and his gf. I think they had the most toxic relationship - the kind that no one deserves and should never stay in. So I am so baffled that in the story, it was Jaehun who was blamed even if he seemed to not have done anything wrong other than stay in the wrong relationahip. and Hayun was the one hurt? Eh??? She was a liar, cheater, practically alcoholic and possessive as hell. I’m so confused. But never mind that, I the story I loved the most was Eunjung and Sangsoo’s. Super cute.

Rose Oct 02 2025 6:41 pm I can't believe I passed on this drama for so long and only just seeing it in big 2025! First, I loved the drama in a drama backdrop, Jin-joo's characters mirroring the characters we're watching, and the Easter eggs splattered across several scenes. Comedy landed in every frame, and I laughed hysterically at many scenes. You could tell that some of the actors were fighting for their lives in some of the funny scenes, and that makes it even more hilarious. The heavy subjects were balanced with the comedic ones, and the whole drama is just absolute chefs kiss!

But once I learned to switch to start thinking like the characters, I was able to enjoy the remarkable dialogue and the humorous quirkiness with a whole new perspective. Only one small query: why is it necessary for a band to have a rhythm guitarist who doesn't even sing while the vocalist already plays the guitar??

How about you farting in front of your lover / husband / wife? Very funny but maybe you will be discussed it with your friends. And oh yess... The episode when Eun-jung meet So-min for the first time after long time they're not meet each other, at talk show. So-min expression was hilarious!

okja Mar 31 2024 2:26 pm i would always see this in the netflix listings for "k-dramas" but never noticed it until "chicken nugget" came out and they made a lot of (very funny) references to it. makes sense given that 90% or so of the "nugget" cast were in this.

if you've ever seen and enjoyed "because this is my first life" you'll like/love this one. real people doing real things but with a "meta" theme as they're all involved in making a k-drama and will talk about it when it's clear they're also talking about the show they're in. this is especially well done in the final episode but i won't spoil how or why.

the cast is amazing and the mood will shift from a mix of gilmore girls+deadpool style banter to some of the most heartwrenching scenes i've ever sat through (mostly the character "eun jeung" and how she deals with the loss of her boyfriend). where the characters end up isn't formulaic or predictable which is a nice change from by-the-numbers dramas.

though the entire episode devoted to farts might not be for everyone i'd give the show an overall 10/10. ratings aren't everything.

Ciepao Jan 18 2024 10:04 am There are no "big" events in this drama or scenes that would keep you on the edge of your seat. It is just a show about four characters and the people around them in their jobs and lives. This is just a simple drama, but why do I rate it a 10/10? The answer is the flow. The way they tell and show each character's story will connect you with them. Individually, they are all strong, independent adults in their 30s, but once they got home and were surrounded by their loved ones, you could see how vulnerable and gullible they were and how much they needed each other. This hits close to home.

As someone who is still young, I always imagine what will and could happen when I turn 30. And this drama answered those questions. A lot of things could happen; you will mature, grow, struggle, and meet a lot of people who could help you or ruin you, yet you will still find yourself like the old you. In short, there is no big difference between your 20s and your 30s; you just have to embrace change.

Definitely worth watching and recommendable.

ColdeFiction Aug 07 2023 2:39 pm @Suzanne but that's what they are if you have lived in south korea or knew a few korean you would know that they love drinking (it's annoying in real life, I've experienced it.) it's embedded to their culture (they are one of the countries with the highest alcoholism rate per city) you can't change that. And of course it will be incorporated into the stories they wanted to be told.

Suzanne Jul 19 2023 3:16 pm I’m more than halfway through episode 3. Another scene of the characters guzzling beer. Whether it’s beer, soju or something else, I can’t stand the glamorization of Koreans getting plastered in dramas. Once in awhile, ok it can be funny or cute…maybe. However, are the writers so incapable of writing a good story without the need to work in drunk scenes? It’s certainly not original or creative, because they’re in almost every K-drama I’ve watched. It’s irresponsible, because there’s a serious alcoholic problem in South Korea. It’s RARELY cute when someone is drunk, passing out or stumbling around. It’s disgusting to hear the characters pressure others to drink or compliment another character on their drinking skills, which don’t even necessarily mean that they can hold their liquor without getting drunk, but treat guzzling beer after beer or drinking shot after shot as if it’s an actual skill, regardless of whether they pass out or run over to the street to puke. Still, I guess it supports the doctors specializing in liver & pancreatic disease & the police departments who have to check out calls of misconduct or domestic violence due to intoxication.

I loved the idea. it's new and unique. it reminded me of how all Reply dramas and even the other dramas by the writer are all related. I loved how they mentioned Reply here as well. I hope to see more smart dramas like them in the future

Softee Feb 19 2023 1:18 am A show within a show, this was written by professional writers. Every scene, every conversation was perfect. This wasn't a comedy but was one of the funniest and enjoyable shows I have ever seen. Every relationship was so lovely, so wonderful, I cherished every episode. The three female leads were all so different, yet were the best of friends. We all should wish for friends like that. It was so nice to see Chun Woo Hee smiling for a change, she is usually so tormented in her other roles. Han Ji Eun was very cute in her role. I loved Jeon Seo Bin the most, she was so sad, tragic, but I was rooting for her the most. I don't understand why the ratings were so low, but I'm hoping now that it's on Netflix it will get more exposure and recognition for how great a series it is.

Each episode is well written with witty dialogue and nuanced characters. I love all three FL and happy to see their growth, but Lee Hyo Bong has a special place in my heart!

I'm happy I found this gem on Netflix. I hope this kdrama gets all the love it deserves.

Watching this I feel like I'm reading the book at the same time (idk if it's based off a book tho hehe). They included so many beautiful memorable quotes and metaphors. The drama expressed things so well. (Spoiler) I like how they don't show Han joo's surprise boyfriend till the end. it made me feel like I'm part of the group just knowing it too coz she kept it a secret. The most important thing is that she ended up happy so it's fine even if they didn't show their relationship process. I find it different to other dramas I've watched so far :D

Red Aug 17 2021 10:46 am Now I'm 30 year old single woman and this drama is exactly on point. I feel so lonely, tired and depressed sometimes as I’m living alone.

BM drama tells a feeling of having someone we know will always be there in every difficult situation that we've been.

it's hard for one to deal with that issue of theirs. However, if only they have others to walk with them and hold on, they can pass through that problem safely and sound and they can continue their life. Because to move on, you need energy, you need courage, and more than a friendly attitude, you need sincere friends.

Can’t recommend this drama enough anyway! You’ll find yourself laughing hysterically at one scene, then being moved to tears during another.

The sound of Be Melodramatic is equally entertaining as the plot. There is a scene where the leads sing one of the OSTs - Your Shampoos Scent in the flowers and I was dying with laughter. It’ll be stay stuck in your head for the month tho!!

Spoiler Alert ? Really Disappointed!!

I feel really really really sad for Jae Hoon!! I mean it’s okay Jae Hoon didn’t ended up with Han Joo or Han Joo choose another guys! I don’t care!

one of the main issues with their relationship is that Ha Yoon would go out and have sex with other guys!! But ! Realises that the problem with the way he acted was that he idealized Ha Yoon and therefore didn't see his girlfriend for who she was and got angry when she didn't fit his ideal mold of a woman?? Excuse me, what?? Her words to him at the end felt…harsh and unfair and left a bad taste in my mouth. The ending for certain two characters did NOT make sense at all.

I think the people who say this drama is boring don't really understand the true meaning of this drama. I am very grateful to Eun Jung for teaching me the meaning of letting go. I like this drama because of the character Eun Jung. I think we are very similar, maybe we all have some similarities with eun jung. either because we don't show our sadness or because of our loneliness and haven't given up something we really love. Eun Jung's character is clear evidence of the pain we feel without us knowing it. Thank you Eun Jung ?

Jst May 05 2021 12:09 pm Like some others, I found this because I searched Jeon Yeo-been's other works. She portrays a different character here than in Vincenzo, where she's bubbly and funny. Here she's a bit poker-faced, but still fun at times. I really saw the range of her acting skills, and she's so good. Anyway, I'm really thankful I found this drama. I finished it 3 days ago, and it's still on my mind. The light-hearted pleasure and entertainment it gave me will stick to me forever. Now, I'm just searching for a drama like this. Thankfully, I found Because this is my first life, which I think is really cute too. Anyway, Be Melodramatic is a must watch!! It so good that it hurts me that this isn't that recognized. I wanna do something to let more people know about this funny, witty, overall amusing drama.

Why did I miss this in 2019?? You can find all sort of emotion here, there're funny, sad, angry, satisfiying, romantic, comical & even weird moments. And the ost (shampoo song) is staying in my head till today. I wish they have season 2!

I finished this drama today and I don't know if the emotions I felt throughout the series will stay but I can say that the director, writer and actors really did a great job.

And there are some scenes that even without a dialogue from a character, just the look in their eyes makes me cry. The whole drama from episode 1 to 16 was like a roller coaster ride for me,there is so much emotions. This is the best drama that depicts my life when I turn 30....

I love the dialogues, the phasing of each episode and the characters that are so relatable. It was also cool whenever they break the 4th wall sometimes lol this was so beautifully written I hope this gets the recognition it deserves!!!

I actually skipped on starting this for a while because the actors looked so ordinary and there weren't any big names, but the casting proved to be one of its charms. Haha this is so good pls don't miss out on this!!!

Who would have thought that an extra energetic character like Cha Young would play a sad and silent character like Eun Jung. She really slayed this role and I'm still rewatching BM even after a few months ago when I watched it. I'm still heartbroken and wanting more for Eun Jung.

The 1 percent ratings remind me of the 1 percent ratings Jin-joos drama gets when it Aired, but slowly became a sleeper hit.

I think it's somewhat same at the fans of this show will easily put this in their top 3.

For me it's in my top 2 shows of all time (Yes including other media too)

I just hope Director lee byung hoon doesn't adjust on his future works thinking this one was not perfect. Cuz it is. It's beautiful, sad, funny and so real and lived it.

Her potrayed in Eunjung's life somehow speak to me even though I never experienced it. Her sadness, her longing for her happy places with someone she loved, and how she moved on really showcase a normal human being. A normal person who having hard times but tried to hide the struggle. Behind her alpha female like character, although everyone think that she's okay but the truth is she never heals. She just repressed her emotion and tried hard to stand tall. It really breaks my heart when she breaks down to her friends and said that she was having a hard time. I just want to give a warm hug to her.

This is so well-wrapped. Everyone is given justice, even the support roles. Nobody left behind. Everyone has story with its own depth. For example I want to talk about Jaehoon a little. The storyline is convincing enough to make me pair him with Hanjoo, since she looks like she has things for him too. But then I realize, she's wisely put herself as a more experienced adviser against him, nothing more. On the other hand, Jaehoon's relationship with his girlfriend is a kind of old love that is hard to break. It would be unwise to pair him with Hanjoo just for the sake of a happy ending. This is what I call justice.

Eventho I quite curious with Hyobong's story, but I understand it's (still) not an easy topic even in S.Korea. But he got justice in the end too. Overall this is a brilliant drama.

Ofc you can have one that you like better than the other but don't bring up that here you ruin the mood. Both AOY and BM is good. And both has really good soundtracks too. This kind of dramas has similar vibes with movies like How to be Single or Someone Great. Maybe they're not perfect, less popular compared to dramas such as Goblin or DOTS, and not everybody likes it, but intelectual and young spirited people would like it.

The story for each character seems interesting but the way the drama is being edited, it's too messy and confusing. I would have prefer if there are lesser narration and more smooth story flow chronologically.

I will still continue watching but it will be one of those drama where it plays in my background and I can do other stuffs at the same time.

I just wanna give appreciation to the writing for a second because this script was beyond amazing and beyond incredible, the way they joke with audience and go back and forth with us is just so so good, it was smart and funny writing! I love the characters like I mean there’s one or two that will piss you off but other than that I was just so invested in these characters and their storyline. One minute you will crying so hard and the next you will be dying out of laughter! If you are having doubts about watching this drama because it doesn’t have high rating I would say ignore the dumb rating and still watch it lmao because honestly i was going back and forth with watching watching drama and now it’s easily on my top 3 favorite dramas

Theres romance, lots of comedy, lots of tears. Feels like because this is my first life combined with fight for my way, a bit heavier.

Recommended if you like drama with beautiful words in it. But a bit slow it you like drama with fast paced.

goong Nov 27 2019 2:30 pm This was such a refreshing offering this year from the Kdrama world. It did not rely on ridiculous plot twists, over the top villains or crazy scenarios. That might make some viewers label it as “an average drama” or even “boring” but that’s really what makes this show very charming. The characters could be any of us in our past, future and/or present— embracing love, struggling with loss, frustrated with our careers and the heartache of a break up.

The characters are very relatable and likeable. The cast really did such a great job, especially the three leading ladies. They brought their own unique charms to their characters. Chun Woo-hee has such an endearing quirkiness about her which makes the screen light up everytime she was on. Han Ji-eun was adorable and childlike with just the perfect amount of sweetness. And Jeon Yeo-bin was a revelation, bringing a perfect mix of fragility and strength in her performance.

The men also held their own. Ahn Jae-hong proves here that he is leading actor material. Bright eyed Gong Myung is very charming and Son Seok-koo was a perfect late addition to the story. I was pleasantly surprised with how I enjoyed Lee Joo-bin/Kim Myung-jun (manager/actress) couple. Their chemistry is undeniable.

And how perfect is the soundtrack ♡

If there’s one thing I would complain about, it’s the editing. Although it made it unique and stand out from other Kdramas, I sometimes get so confused with how scenes would jump from present to past then back to present. It took a while to get used to. Also was the gay storyline completely abandoned? It was introduced briefly and then it disappeared to oblivion.

If you are looking for something unconventional with a simple feel good story, a great soundtrack and a bunch of great actors. I recommend this.

I laughed and cried at 3 am, fell in love with the characters and the story, tho it was simple, it still managed to have that unique and awesome vibe to it, maybe because the characters really had a certain depth in them making it work like magic. Sometimes you don't really have to have that really complicated story just a simple one with real good characters and real good script writing of the conversations is all it takes. If ever you're debating whether you would want to watch it or not i certainly recommend it. It doesn't punch you on the face right off the bat but it grows on you. Makes you feel sad and happy at the same time. Gives you butterflies in your stomach it was a real good experience really. Go watch itt!!!

I was captivated by the director and the writer's relationship at the beginning as they had this connection but when they became a couple, they just became bland to me.. the actress So Min and her manager had a lovely relationship which made me root for them. The relationship i rooted for the most was however that of Han Joo and Jae Hoon and the fact that the writers chose not to pursue it,disappointed me a lot.. i just feel that this drama had a lot of potential to do much better, but they just chose to make it an average drama.. all in all, i watched all the episodes and though i was disappointed, it was an okay drama.

CKW Oct 13 2019 11:13 am A very peculiar but nonetheless, an amazing drama. The best I've seen this year in fact! It's just so well mapped and written. The editing, direction, acting and especially writing seals the deal here for me. Lee Byeong Hun (of Twenty fame) yet again displays his strength here by pulling out such natural characters in his writing. It was reminiscent of Aaron Sorkin without the posh wits.

Not a single character and episode felt out of place here. I loved every character, even the ones that'd normally be less likable one in a conventional drama. I really enjoyed how quirky the characters were in a very natural and engaging way for e.g in episode 6, the two characters (whom I shall not name for the sake of spoilers) just sit in the couch throughout the episode yet they afford to make the scenes still captivating as heck.

Even the supporting characters worked for me, in fact some of the highlights involved the supporting cast. One of the highlight was Minjoon-Somin camaraderie and Somin-Eunjung repartee. I've never seen the actors who played Minjoon and Somin, but they portrayed the laidback manager and the hyper yet hypo-active actress so well. I couldn't help but anticipate their appearances.

It's definitely a must-watch show, albeit as a caveat I shall warn that it might not be everyone's cup of tea due to how unconventional the drama is.

I love the dialogue. The writer is such a genius! I have to say that the beg. of the drama was so confusing so maybe people give up after the 1st 30 minutes, but after finishing 2 episodes, you realize the beg of ep. 1 was a preview of what was to come. E.N. Sep 11 2019 10:29 pm Am I the only one who feels sad that Jin Joo did not treat Kim Hwan-Dong well, dumping him, but blaming him for how she is treated by him? She only thinks about herself, and seems to hook up with the uglier and equally selfish Beom-Soo. I think Hwan-Dong really gets treated bad by the writers of this soap opera. He is the nice guy at the beginning who has done nothing wrong to his girlfriend. I expected her to realize he was a great guy and she treated him wrong, but instead, they are steering this drama in the direction of her falling in love with that ugly Beom-Soo. So what if they get along as friends. A friend can just be a friend. Didn't she appreciate how great Hwang-Dong was to her? Why not? Jin Joo is such a selfish character. I do not like her at all. Hwan-Dong needs better treatment by the screenwriters and director of this drama. I really dislike Beom-Soo's character.

Hailee Sep 01 2019 6:19 am I do find the story a little bit slow. But it's interesting enough to keep me glued to it. All of the hardships portrays really resonate with me. I can relate a lot with what the story especially with the hardship of women in their 30s with no stable job whatsoever. This is the real problem on what tv doesn't always touch the issue. It's not that getting a job solves everything and even if you got a job, doesn't mean your life free of any problem.

and yes, I wanna see more the story of the gay couple. How people assumed being a guy free you from any emotional baggage. I hope they develop how guy couple can have feelings too and have problem like any real couple. Besides, they're cute together.

Yunyun Aug 31 2019 6:49 pm I really love this drama, it's honestly so refreshing and every character has its own story, makes it even more interesting. I would use the word "heart warming" to describe this drama cause it really gives me that vibe, it's refreshing, relatable, funny and also very emotional. I'm starting to get frustrated by Jae Hoon's relationship cause his girlfriend really treats him like shit, I don't think she has the right to throw a fuss bc he had a drink with his collegue when she literally cheated on him in the first place ! The way they argue also makes me frustrated cause I know this is what a regular fight looks like between a Korean couple, there's no communication at all, that's sad. I really enjoy other couples, JinJoo and Beom Soo are amazing and their dialogues are hilarious, they have such a good chemistry don't get me started ! Even if Eun Jeong story is sad, her character is so charming, I love the way she interacts with Hong Dae, he's always cheering her up and joking around, they truly loved each other... In a way I know she needs to get through this painful grief in order to start anew, I know she needs to let him go, but man...that shit hurts, I don't want him to be gone. On another note, I love So Min and Min Joon relationship, I don't know how it's gonna end tho. The only regret I have is that we don't get to see the brother that much, I mean, I want to see his story too + gay couples are not often represented in kdrama !! It could be so interesting, I want to know how is his relationship going, I need him to be portrayed as a real character and not only as an emotional support for the girls :( I understand we already have a lot of different side stories to catch up with but still, I hope they'll develop on this a bit more.

I love how Ahn Jaehong's character is annoying and funny at the same timeㅋㅋ can't wait for Bumsoo & Jinjoo to progress faster!! Btw I'm concerned about Eunjung tho :( she seems chic and strong from the outside, but the way she handles loss is so heartbreaking. I wish she'd move on and find happiness with someone else?
