Yusuke Urameshi (Takumi Kitamura) gets into fights almost daily. One day, he saves a kid who is nearly run over by a car, but, Yusuke Urameshi gets hit by the car and dies. After this death, he becomes a ghost and meets a messenger from the spirit world. The messenger tells him that there isn't a place for him in Heaven or Hell for him, because he lived his live doing bad things, but died doing a good deed. Yusuke Urameshi is shocked. He is then offered a position as a detective for the spirt world. After going through a couple of tests, he officially becomes a detective for the spirit world. He is returned to his human body and begins to work. His job is to crack down on misdeeds caused by demons in this world.
