Drama series follows the daily lives of a chaotic family. Moon Tae-Joo (Kim Sang-Kyung) is the second highest ranking employee at Daeoh Company. He thinks he's better than most other people and he also has a trauma with love. Things change though when he meets his secretary named Cha Gang-Sim (Kim Hyun-Joo).

Ji Sep 13 2023 9:01 am I remembered watching this drama years ago and enjoyed it so now I'm rewatching it. I don't really like Youngsol, but she's a part of family member most of us have anyway, so I can actually accept her. I don't like Baek Solhee for all the right reasons. Her son, Yoon Eunho isn't all different either. The guy can't take no for an answer. This might be resulted from the way his mother controlled him and how he was bullied growing up, but come on.

You'll get hooked easily because the sequence of events isn't messy. While some scenes were unnecessary, it didn't mean to drag the story. For me, the story started getting interesting in the latter half. It gave direction towards where the story is heading (watch and you'll understand what I'm saying)

Aimen Apr 26 2023 10:09 am I might be late in writing this comment but Trust Me in years and years of me watching K-dramas, this is Absolutely one on The Top for me.....I'm not good at remembering anyone's name but I still remember every character's name vividly....Whenever I see Park HyungSik, my brain automatically goes "Look that's Cha DalBong.." or "Our DalBong is soooo grownup and manly now"...I just found out that Yoon Park's gonna be in an upcoming drama and I felt fireworks in my heart thinking "KangJae's back again"..... I have soooooooooooo many Wonderful memories with this drama...<3

Because his act was the most difficult n the emotions n facial expressions were worth watching. Past few days it looked more like I had a family to sit n hear with. Excellent story, great editing n sincerely wish u can continue another story with same cast.

On top of that, this drama has a good lesson to everyone. A bit dragging but you can skip the unnecessary parts, there are many of them. But all in all this drama is good!

Tip: Skip every part of Baek Sol Hui, she's really annoying. Really.

Until this episode she is acting like a 16 year old teenage girl. She really pisses me of. I want to skip every scene with her but I have to watch because of Moon Tae Joo. This drama has so much we can learn from it. At the beginning it was very hard to watch because of the annoying children but it got better with every episode. The scenes with Moon Tae Joo are really my favorite! He always makes me laugh. I can’t believe I only have 3 episodes left. I will miss this family ? I laughed, I cried and laughed again. This is a must watch drama for everyone.

there might be some parts in th storyline that seem exaggerated but they can really happen in real life. What made me continue to watch is SunBong (Dad) who was the glue/heart of the family and imparted a lot of life lessons everyone.

Another is Seo-ul, who from an outsider's point of view gave us a peek of what wrong in this family...and if we are to judge or emphatise.

Yes the 'evil' relatives might put you off but like in real life, are not always evil and can be a source of strenght in times of need and of course, each member's success/failure becomes a uniting force for this dysfunctional family.

zed Jan 09 2022 5:21 am im back, and honestly theres much to say. this drama is like a simple drama u can watch a few episodes of everyday, after getting home from ur 9 - 5 job. it has a lot of episodes, and isnt actually draggy - just very fleshed out. which is fine, but halfway through its a bit tough because there are some unlikeable characters for a long period of time before they get a bit better (yeong-seol lmao and hyo jin sometimes) and everyone is just very immature. but what did i expect, i keep watching anyway. towards the end (SPOILER) the dad kinda treats dal bong like shit and i cant take it. no matter how much you dont want ur son to follow in ur footsteps, calling him a loser, saying hes never been successful, being disappointed of him every single time, saying hes never been sincere and only does things for money - its disgusting. dal bong, out of all the siblings is a bit reckless, yes, but hes lovable and emotional. hes a bit dumb sometimes but you can tell hes always appreciated his dad. i hate how he gets treated.

Overall though, I believe its a simple light hearted drama that you cant exactly take too seriously. The children are annoying at first but thats the point - this drama isnt exactly suited for those that love the modern kdramas where it ends on a good cliffhanger, short, and has strong and good flow of the plot.

One of the best and very moving family Kdrama i have watched!! I laughed and cried and so many things going on with this series which all of them I have enjoyed! Trust me!!! im an avid fan of Kdrama and one of the best recommend family drama which everyone can relate. Thank u writers and directors for amazing idea and to all the talented actors !!! 10/10 wow wow!!!

It is NOT cheap entertainment and comedy, but a carefully crafted artwork where every word and every scene is meaningful. I haven't been as thoroughly emotionally impressed as with this piece of cinematic artwork. I realise, it's not easy "food" to swallow, and those who are looking for soppy love stories or mind numbing action won't be impressed, but trust me, it's GREAT!!!

Kurosyamito Jan 27 2021 8:26 pm Just finished this drama. I am a blubbering mess now. It is quite rare that I am hooked to a Korean drama, but since this is a family drama (I am a big sucker for this time of slice of life drama), i thought i give it a try.

The first 20 episodes move rather slowly as it shows their daily lives and how the kids brushed their father aside. But this is vital to set up what is happening next. After the court arc started, it get more interesting seeing how the kids reacted to the father suing them.

I think I cried the hardest when Gang-sim and Soon-Geum found out. Boy, I was glad I was watching alone. haha

I laughed, I cried, I cringed, I went "ooh" and "ahh". Overall, this is a great family drama.

This drama does delivery what it says. Drama at its finest where you feel more mad than anything else. It's not really a mix of emotions you feel when it's mainly anger.

Out of the 14 hours I've watched so far there has been less than 10 minutes where I haven't been sick to my stomach. Only Dal-Bong and Seo-Wool seem to have respect for family. Waiting for any backstory as to why they're all the way they are. Gang-Jae is honestly the most ungrateful son.

I sti amazed on how Kim Hyun Joo got so bright in her acting. I saw her in drama I have a Lover, she could be really different acting.. and I found her changed again in drama Twinkle twinkle... And in drama the Land, I shocked how she could be in different acting again... Sorry for my goofy English.. All I want to say is that this drama is Great, so damn great and Kim Hyun Joo has always her best performance, she's very professional... Daebak!!

In making her look so pretty and cute, they forgot that her role is basically a countryside poor girl who is mooching off another family yet well dressed and has a lot of time to interfere in other people’s lives. Yeah, she works sometimes at a restaurant as a cleaner but that’s it. Where is she getting all this money to have a nice laptop? So many loopholes with her character. She is better dressed than the cousin who has a husband (working). She even has money to go to a hairdresser to change her style. Is her rich love triangle guy on the side giving her money and things? seriously this girl has so many outfits!

Dr. Jackal Aug 12 2018 10:24 am Really loved this drama. I laughed most of the time and there were times I cried as well. From a loving aunt to the simple, helping cousin in law. I was not expecting the middle sibling to be such an a**hole, but he comes very close to being a villain. But he redeems himself later on.

The most refreshing character of this series is the Director Tae Joo. He's far from typical Chaebol characters that many KDramas have. He's naive, simple and borderline dimwit, but that makes him more likeable and his efforts to win Cha Kang Shim over are really funny. He remains true to his feeling till the end.

Watching this drama really makes you realise how important the time with your loved ones is. The story goes smoothly, you'd think writers have all the time in the world to develop all the characters, but I feel like character of Eun Ho was underdeveloped and the love triangle was incomplete.

The ending is great very fitting. Invest your time in this 53 episode long drama and learn to love your family. It definately is one of my top 5 KDramas.

marrissa Feb 05 2018 8:56 pm worth watching Korean Drama, one of the best as expected from KBS, all actors are great, the storyline is daebak! awesome, indeed it's simply amazing..I just recently watched this now for 1 week I finished the 53 episodes although it's quiet old but highly recomended , resounding applause for all the cast and thanks a lot to the writer, the director for bringing the best of the actors performance.

I loved the previous one that I started looking for more series with the both of them. However, after watching the first 12 episodes of this drama, I became an avid fan of Nam Ji-Hyun and Kim Hyun-Joo. Cuteness overload for Dalbong and Seoul.

I almost pass on this one because of the 50+ episodes, but glad I didn't because I wanted to see Yoon Park. It's a really heartwarming drama about family, love, and life in general. I cried so much towards the end. Watch it, you will not be disappointed.

The dialogues (as conveyed through the subtitles) were simply memorable, acting was superb by each and everyone of the actors and actresses. Enjoyed every minute of watching the episodes and we truely miss it now after watching the final episode yesterday.

Mike Jul 05 2016 11:53 pm I forgot to make mention of a couple of other nuiances that this drama could have certainly done without: constant interference from the characters Cha Soon-Guem (Cha Soon-Bong's sister), her daughter No Young-Sul, and son-in-law Seo Joong-Baek. No Young-Sul is just about as bad as Kang Seo-Wool, especially when it comes to the personal life of her cousin Cha Gang-Sim. In turn, and knowing that her cousin is intruding on her personal life, Cha Gang-Sim should have put an end to it - not very realistic letting it continue. It also isn't very realistic that she would fall for the first guy she encounters after being chaste, strong-willed, and career oriented for 17 years, especially one as immature as the character Moon Tae-Joo. The father vs. children plot could have carried this drama by itself - all the other stuff is just bad window dressing. It is a good drama, though.

Mike Jul 05 2016 7:38 pm We are at ep. 28 and I like the drama so far, but the character played by Nam Ji-Hyun is not necessary and has become a little annoying. As the character Kwon Hyo-Jin stated in ep. 27, the character Kang Seo-Wool should not be butting into family matters - I agree in that she seems to have her nose in all of their personal business. I'm glad that the father took the drastic step to get his children to start acknowledging their lack of respect towards him. As always, love the acting of Kim Hyun-Joo.

I don't really watch dramas that run into 50 plus eps. H/w I gave this a try and find it a gem. This is a budget drama so don't expect frills like grandiose bldgs, fanciful oversea shoots with music from popular singers to prep up the mood in every other scene. The overall performance here surpasses many of those hoarding the headlines nowadays, those that sell on looks, popularity, media play and the scream and shouts of the fan base on social media 24/7.

@Wen Xi:) you're right about the part on cherishing the loved ones. The msg of this drama is to appreciate and be patient with our loved ones, including those who fail us again and again.Many a time we take them for granted and focus only their fails and realize their absence only when they are gone.

Wang family was also studio shooted but it was much better. Also the actor in father's role doesn't seems to justify his role, acting all kinky from time to time( it literally gave me goosebumps). Actor in similar role in "smile you" gave the best performance. And elder daughter in law my goodness why does she speaks from her nose she is improving a lot though.

One is Empress Ki and the other one is this. I think that the most important thing all of us would have learnt is about cherishing your loved ones/ those around you because one moment they may be there, the other moment they may not be. Also, Ms. Ko said something like this, "This is exactly what the role of a father is. When they are there, you don't really notice them but when they aren't there, you would actually feel/ know their importance." I find that really really true. I hope that everyone of you who watched this drama series have enjoyed it and at least learnt something from it. I cried many many times watching this drama and laughed many many times too... this drama would make you cry but also make your day. Enjoy for those who haven't watched!!! (I would actually like this drama more if there were more scenes of Gangshim and Taeju...)

The acting is good and -natural 3. The characters are so true-to-life, rounded characters with human foibles and strengths, except perhaps the noble,sacrificial and forgiving father. Even then, it is not too hard to believe since many parents are prepared to do so much for their children. Perhaps, Miss Go is the least difficult to identify with, too good to be true. 4. Even the other subplots support the main plot in a not- overly contrived way that depends too much on ridiculous coincidences. 5. The story line and what happens are events that we can totally see happening in real life. 6. the sad, poignant moments are mitigated somewhat by the humour, yet it is precisely the humour that makes the poignant moments feel all the more real, unlike the usual tear-jerkers melodramas which leaves the viewer sad rather than touched. 7. There is less emphasis on looks but more on qualities of people. 8. Last, but not least, it awakens the need to be more appreciative of the elderly and to make time for them.

Few kdramas could bring tears & laughter for me but this one did; and many times over the course of the 53 episodes which I completed over 4 days. Well-written & well-acted

Z Oct 06 2015 8:36 pm Whilst the main 'hook' of the drama is unconvincing i.e. The lawsuit. I did find the entire drama thoroughly entertaining and rather beautiful. I found the miserable children very relatable, in fact all of the main characters were rather realistic except for Yoon Eun Ho who is too perfect for this world. Children who take complete advantage of their father are not difficult to find. Being ungrateful and loving your parents is something of a trend in 'regular' households. Of course this was a drama so some attitudes held by the children were partiularly cruel. The aim of this drama I think was to show the beauty and love you can find in a family in all their different shapes and sizes, not so much about the changes that were forced to occur due to the lawsuit and the illness. The children didn't become good people because they were not particularly bad, they were very irresponsible towards people they were supposed to love and I think it was apparent how over the course of the story each character solidified their relationship.

BRAVO.. to Kim Hyun Joo, I think she is absolutely amazing actress.. She is the reason I finished this long drama. I find her acting so natural and mesmerizing.

This story covered so much and each character had their own important role that contributed to the whole. Well done to the writer/ producer. Very engaging story. It's 9 out of 10 for me.

davia May 11 2015 10:23 am Spoiler: This drama is entertaining for the first 3/4 then gets tedious for about 10 episodes with all the bickering in the family. The last episode is well done.

For the most part of the drama the characters presume everything without listening to each other.

The father gets cancer so the drama is very sad from about 1/2 way through.

Evidently the father is too nice to the kids and they grow up selfish but then when he slaps a lawsuit on them and starts shouting and yelling and kicking them they become good people. Please! First of all treating one's children with kindness doesn't make them selfish. He didn't teach them good manners. Then they start trying to do what he orders as part of the lawsuit and supposedly become better people. But they actually don't. We don't ever see any of the three do any household chores or really do anything for the father which isn't self motivated except for the doctor son when he is sick and feels guilty. Off course they are distraught and sad when they find out about his illness but those emotions do not translate into being a better human being.

The drama does have a lot of warmth though with some wonderful acting especially the aunt - Yang Hee Keong, Kim Hyun Joo, and Kim Sang Kyung who really save the drama with his comedic portrayal. Pretty much all the actors were marvelous except for the actors who played the father and the two sons I thought were a bit weak in portrayal.

Anyway I am writing all this for others to consider because it is a long drama and a huge time investment. Would I watch it if I knew what I do now after having done so. Not sure. Did I enjoy watching it? For the most part. There are a lot of wonderful scenes in this drama. It's an 8 out of 10 for me.

Davoa May 04 2015 5:42 pm I am half way through this drama and had to stop and write how disconcerting it is that the writer has made the adult kids a bunch of thieves. They are slathering at the mouth like a pack of wolves to take their father's hard earned money. They didn't earn any of that money and have no qualms or thought about their father, his way of life and how loosing his home and shop might affect him. What a bunch of selfish looser. I feel so sorry for the father. And for the aunt too. She wasted her life bringing up that bunch of ingrates. It doesn't really make me want to continue watching what happens to the the "cha ching"(as in the sound of a cash register) Cha adult kids. It's amazing how people can delude themselves into thinking that they are doing something for someone else yet be completely self-serving .

Korean drama lead than any because their set up location great, Very boring saw this drama almost 95% take on studio, very lack appearance from outdoor, No street walk, Bar, Restaurant.

Don't ever thing to made this kind of drama anymore.. If I been challenge to choose STUDIO drama, definitely I prefer watch U.S mini series

There's no way compared with them.. Korean drama strength by shooting location, there's land, sea, mountain and also street walk in neighborhood, don't forget that primary aspect from Korean drama

I don't know why this drama set up everything on studio, Finish watch Legendary witch its great and recently House of Bluebird also great, U can see the different of shooting location both them still ok.. Even 60% in the studio but around 40% take on outside, like Bar, Restaurant and Street walk.. That's refreshing enough to watch Korean Drama.. SO.. Don't made studio drama like What Happens to My Family anymore.. Boring.. Learn from two drama for comparison

K-dramas always has this unrealistic overrated perspective on life and its characters but still i find these two characters unacceptable, they truly have no right to behave in that way therefor these two are the only characters that i had no sympathy or whatsoever , plus Seo-wool is too good for that family she should just go and find someone else than dal-bong , seo-wool just go and live your life cause life is too short to waste on some worthless man like dal-bong and on the top of that his family ,just treat your own grandfather good and believe me you'll be hundered times better off that way than spending your precious time on people who will never see your true worth or treat you well as you deserve :)

Having lived through just about everything in this series, in real life, it brought back many loving and heartbreaking moments. All the actors were fantastic in their roles, I hope to see more from this whole crew. I will be purchasing it when it becomes available to have my children and their families watch it too. I was sorry to see it end, can't wait for more.

I watched it first because of Hungshik, but i completely fell in love with Kang Shim, her relationship with the Director was so interesting, this is one of my favorite couple in k-dramas. Kim Hyun Joo is such an amazing actress, can't wait for her next drama. Plus this drama shows how a family can be, with their problems, how to try to solve it... with lot of humor : I LOVE IT <3

What a gripping story! I love the great balance of wisdom, serious stuff, suspense, romance, family love & bickering, comic relief. However, I am squeamish about blood -- preview to episode 52 was too real for me - even woke me up in the middle of the night telling myself it was just ketchup. Learning about Korean culture, like foods and respect for parents and elders, sleeping arrangements, homes and decor, views of Korea and general manners with KBS dramas is wonderful. Have to try some Korean restaurants near my home. Surprised to hear English words used. But then every language borrows words from other cultures.

I was shocked to find that the results are "what happens to my family ep 50, 40.." I was thinking this drama was going to be boring to be extended to 50s episodes,

however I tried to watch the 1st episode and still rushing. watching 41 episodes in several days costs me the real panda eyes but still, I LOVE THIS DRAMA WOW.

I tried to skip an episode but I can't.. (of course).. because of the complicated and unexpected twist!!! I'm agree with others that I laughed really hard and cried during those episodes. I cried more actually :')

in the end I really like park hyungsik ;3

this drama also leaves me many life lessons. good job :) I LOVE IT this drama is so humane..

So when my brother told about an app that shows not only Asian movies but tv shows as well, I checked it out. After signing up, I explored and what do you know, I come across this drama and I watched the trailer. I then played the first episode. Since then, I have been watching this drama. Anticipating the new episodes every week. I love this drama. Great actors & actresses. I have cried and laughed to this. I have become one, like family to this drama. Is that weird? Lol. Although I am excited for the very few last episodes, I am sad to see this drama come to an end. The last episode will be bittersweet. But I will watch it till the end. Keep up the great work!

The cast is perfect, each one delivered their role superbly. I love all the scenes especially soon bong and tae joo. They're so funny together. I love the chemistry between tae joo and gam shim. I cry almost all episode start from episode 35. :'( I think tha actors /actress really did a great job in potraaying their character. Dalbong and Seoul is so cute couple. ^^ Mun Taeju and Gangshim is funny too because they always put funny background music for them. LOL! by the way, this drama is really really great. It make us feel grateful to have parents and friends. Happy watching!

Risa Jan 08 2015 10:25 pm This drama is seriously an emotional roller coaster. Many of the characters can be really annoying but some of them will eventually grow on you. Kang Jae is the only one that hasn't yet, I don't think I will like him even to the end of the drama, but who knows what will happen. That's why I'm continuing the drama despite how many times it's made me cuss out my laptop screen, I really hope these characters will change! But you can't help but love the Father, Aunt, and Seo Wool, even Dal Bong at times. But the mom of Kang Jae's wife...oh my gosh I've never disliked someone so much. The story is great though, enough for me to let go how seriously fustrating it can sometimes be, I just really really hope some of these characters will change

Perhaps it's her beauty that isn't too outstanding that people judge her harder. This is true. People tend to be more lenient on their female protagonist if she is gorgeous. I also like Dabong's acting. It really showcases the clumsy, unexplored, embarrassing feeling of falling slowly in love for the first time. People need to think of the characters before judging the actors' skills. Acting awkwardly doesn't necessarily mean bad acting if the role calls for that. These young actors are really refreshing. Watch their growth with an open-mind and they will impress you. This show is great. It has many funny moments. Cute, heart warming as well as touching. Family is forever.

But now, I love all the characters no matter how irritating some might be. As someone who is not young anymore, I can relate to the different characters and hate no one. I think the directing crew did a good job selecting the cast. I'll only be disappointed in the scriptwriter if she kills of Mr. Cha in the end. Hoping for a happy ending. Dal Bong and Seo Wool are going to end up together so I don't see the point I'm having Eun Ho . But I do find myself rooting for Eun Ho he my favorite character I wish he would end up with Seo Wool . And trying to shoehorn in size 10 story into a size 4 plot just doesn't fit. I am not trying to demean the scriptwriters but the dialogue is awfully fake. And making the everyone seem to be incredibly obtuse and nearly functionally retarded makes it seem they are not actual people but cardboard characters.

Basis for the plot is good. Characters are simply written to be too stupid, too many useless, uninteresting filler, script is lame by trying force unrealistic actions and reactions. So, I will not be watching it any farther. But I'm glad that some people like it. Be a shame for the efforts to be wasted, I guess.

Whatever its worth but I think the father loves his children very very much and he is using this one last chance to give them another lesson. I hope he succeeds before he goes to another world as I think he has this illness which was what the doctor told him when he was hospitalized. Although I hate the doctor cha kang jae for being so materialistic but I think he delivers in terms of acting since I hate him so much, I don't wanna take him for my son. I love Kang Shim/director couple but not as much as I detest that aunt character and her ridiculously high-pitched rantings.

Conclusion, stopped watching because of that nosy-parasite-loudmouthed-shrieking aunt

To the point I pretty much no longer care what happens to them. Which was a shame, because the series started off good for me. I don't know. Maybe it it the uninspiring story, mind numbing dialogue, lack of honest drama, humor or suspense, the banal sets and the lack of visually stimulating cinematography.

But whatever it is, at times like this I hate my OCD-like need to finish any series that I watched at least ten episodes. I'm same way with a book. If I start it, I must finish it. No matter how torturous. Such a curse.

I love the show. It's a wonderful option to spent saturday and sunday nights at home, or a relax time before social activities.

It's a funny, touching and intelligent TV program, makes point about family values, and the actors an actresses are amazing!

Your country is beautiful (KBS Flying Korea...) and given that in the college I work there is a Corean Language Class, I'll make the time in my schedule to join in it. Maybe I could visit that wonderful country of yours in a not so far time.

How can she just have it her way and say shes in love with a jerk who doesn't talk to her and she doesn't know except for his bad behavior with his family ! I REALLY HOPE Kang jae will realise his wrong and end up with his former girlfriend who I find really interesting. Love how she talked to hyo jin. Go girl.

This drama is such a good drama, it's about daily family life and about what's happening to family in this century. I don't know why people find Kan Seo Wool's character so annoying, I think they are the best couple among the family. I understand people have different perspectives. This drama is worth watching it. I'm loving it. I just can't wait for the romance between Kan Seo Wool and Dal Bong (Hyunsik).
