Dae-Gil and King Yeongjo enter a match. Dae-Gil bets his life and King Yeongjo bets the entire Kingdom of Joseon on the outcome.

Dae-Gil is the best gambler in the Joseon era. He holds deep resentment inside, but is also cool on the exterior. King Yeongjo is a man who never lower his head without a convincing reason. Meanwhile, Dam-Seo exists solely to take revenge upon king.

liveforit Apr 18 2022 10:35 am this show started off fantastic, I live the actor that played King sookjong handsome and gave us his all. however this show does not need to be 24 episodes, it went on for toooooooooo long and got boring. at some point the characters were just talking too long and it was pissing me off. 16 episodes max if they hadn't wasted so much time talking and giving us unnecessary plot twists but overall it was still a good show. it went from great to good.

Bin Mar 17 2022 8:20 pm The drama overall is average, pretty boring and got lots of loopholes. I still watch it til the end but just as a forgettable filler to fill in time while I eat/relax since I couldnt find other sageuks to watch. Some characters are just so irrelevant to the plot like Dam Seo, waste of screen time. If you're a fan of yeo jin goo, his character here is very weak, useless and annoying. It even made me think he's not well suited for historical dramas at all. The best part about this drama that made me keep watching was the King. The acting was superb, he really gave that aura of a Tiger that they keep talking about. The beast with 100 eyes & 1000 ears, his character was superbly carried I feel like he deserved a whole movie of his own. The rest are just time wasting. Jang geun seuk's character only starts getting a bit worth watching after he got stronger. Most of the plot here doesnt make sense tbh & the fights are kept short and boring.

Logic? Lol this drama was a joke in that area. The guy got his hands broken, legs broken and twisted yet still can limp through, got an arrow to his chest yet survive a fall from the cliff, rested for 1 week and immediately managed to do hard labour without dying, mind you bones dont heal in a week, then he got beaten in a straw mat for God knows how many times but voila, still alive. Oh he also got 2 gunshot wounds to his body, and it took him just 1.5 DAYS (not months) to heal and walk completely normal. Idk what the director was thinking tbh, it's already the 21st century, why do they still make these ridiculous plots..

I just want to write more about him, 'wish I could' please forgive my ... For this king. He is a very brilliant actor (perfect to be precise) Hope to see more of him in more dramas, with a suitable role. The movie is great and so are the actors.

The villain is like a God that can do everything, and his life is always safe by this and that just to make the series last longer. I can say that the storyline is pretty poor. But I like Yeoning character's development.

Overall I liked all the men in this series they did well

babybean Jan 04 2020 10:59 am I can’t finish watching this with all the plotholes. It’s so sad because I love JGS and YJG so much but the writing is just too full of crap. All the amazing actors are wasted. And what this is 24 episodes? Lost it in episode 7 because a lot of things doesn’t make sense. I’ve watch Empress Ki with 53 episodes twice and wasn’t bored like this.

Diane Dec 29 2018 10:00 pm Good cinematography, nice action, and an incredible cast of sageuk stalwarts should have made for a much better drama. Unfortunately, the writer seemed to get lost and bogged down with an implausible female lead, and poor dialogue. Only the veteran actors with their merciless plotting stood out. Choi Min-Soo absolutely deserved the award of the year for his portrayal of King Sukjong. I was very disappointed to see that he didn't get one, so I suppose the award ceremonies are getting just like Hollywood. They only praise their friends, not the best performance.

I've seen lots of his dramas, be comedy etc...amazing! The way he deliver the lines, WOW! Can't help to admire him so much! I laughed so hard on his Man Who Dies to Live...hahahah!

He is not only a beautiful face, but an excelent actor who has been growing more and more....Congrats JKS, you did it! Yeo Jin-Goo is a so young actor, but it seems having years of experience, I loved his acting so much. Actually all the main characters were excelent on their roles. I certainly will watch "The Royal Gambler" again! Thanks a lot.

This man really reflected the acting of a 25 yrs experience actor as Daegil.Yeo Jin Goo also proved to be a super fantastic actor. JKS again proved he is unbeatable actor

They tried to make dae Gil a demi god or something that cannot be killed from anything from arrows, falling off cliffs to stabs in the stomach to bullets. Prince Yeoning/King Yeongjo seemed a human with human strengths and weaknesses that most of us can relate to. His character was developed beautifully and he was the soul of the drama. and jin goo is such a fine actor. Just 19 and is so awesome already!

miaca Aug 23 2016 4:48 pm My expectation was wrong. I thought it was bad but I eventually like it. Jang Geun suk is still an excellent actor.. I like how they include gambling in politics.. But I was quite disturbed with the last events..I feel like the story shifted its focus. I am looking for more exciting gamble at the end, like how the king and In Jwa used to battle. Still, I am happy that Dae Gil was not killed at the end. Saeguks usually have sad endings. Also, I like that they want to emphasize friendship than romance. For this purpose, I believe, Lim Ji Yeon is fit for her role. All other actors made a good performance. I am happy that I watched it.

Danniah Jul 14 2016 11:15 pm This drama came after Six Flying Dragons whose strong and clever characters, not surprised if Daebak is being compared with SFD. But, for 24 eps drama, I can say that Daebak is worth watching. Sure, it isn't as intense as other Sageuk drama that have 50+ ep.

If you want to enjoy this drama, don't expect too much from the characters. You won't meet great villain as Mishil or quick-witted woman like Empress Ki. But, the King Sukjong and King Yeongjo are tough and enough to stand against the 'know-it-all' villain Yi In-jwa.

I still don't understand how Yi In-jwa knows everything before hand and also I still can't believe that the (lead) character Damseo is sooo stupid. I just give up to believe that she would bring any enthusiasm after I watched ep 8.

Victoria Jul 01 2016 10:53 am l'm really disappointed with this drama. As l said in my comments before, l watched this because of Lim Jiyeon, but her character is plain and stupid. Actually the characters in this drama are stupid. Daegil acts like a hero, but he keeps saving Lee Injwa's life, and other villains, saying he's not supposed to die yet. WTH?

A lot of unnecessary scenes, 2-step lost fighting scenes, repetition pattern. l kept ROFLing watching the fighting scenes, which always ended in 2-steps. lt said they are the best fighters, but lost in 1-2 steps? They looked like doing body gag, l used to do that with my cousins when we were kids.

The acting was great for some, but the story is awful, even Daegil's character is boring. The ones brought this to live are Yeoning and King. Lee Injwa was great until his plan became repetitive. The others are pure plain. l don't know if the writers were out of idea but it doesn't need 24 eps to finish it. The ending is basically the same with SFD. My fave characters are Yeoning, King, the twins and Sanggil. At least the twins stay alive.

In summary, if you want a drama where bad guys always win, or the hero keeps saving the bad guys, this drama is for you.

yanti Jun 18 2016 2:34 am Just finished watching this historical drama...and all I can say I am so mesmerized with all the actor and actresses. I must say each one of them has succeed to carried their own character's very well...everyone to me has shown their credibility eventhough to a very small roll. As for yeo jin goo...he is the youngest amongs them but he managed to gave out his best...especially during his age as a king. With all the moustache and beard his really look matured. Congrats to the director, actors, actresses, scriptwriter and the crews. U all have done a good job. (It is sad to learned that the king son's have been poisoned and how the king had left alone with no one he can trusted)

I'm so grateful you list all the actors with their pictures and not just the main stars. I don't know how any times I found this information helpful in my research. There are so many good character actors out there that are not considered the main stars. You have become my go-to-guys. I'm a Korean historical drama junky and absolutely love Daebak. It stars my all time favorite Korean actor Jang Keun Suk that I longed to see on the screen again. And Daebak is just loaded with so many others actors that I love.

asha Jun 15 2016 3:13 pm thanx god people here are praising this show ..elsewhere is like a disaster ..I read many reviews hating on this drama ,I really really liked it and I will miss it >< Geun suk and Jin goo were great and the story was so cool . only in the end it got a bit slow and I guess thats why most ppl lost interest but still the whole drama was epic :) at least I also appreciate the hard work of all the actors ^^ Daebak was really Daebak .

vmi Jun 14 2016 12:20 pm I am going to miss this drama, true to form during the younger years of King Yeongjo ... should have been 50 episodes at least. JKS fit the role of Baek dae Gil ( in history if I am not mistaken "Park Mun-su or Bak Munsu- who had earned great merit in putting down Yi In-jwa's rebellion"). And good that there's no sticky love interest marrying whoever in the end haha

Victoria May 26 2016 1:24 am l'm getting annoyed with this drama. l don't like both lead actors, but as time goes by, l came to like Yeo Jin-goo as he is really good acting as Prince Yeoning. He made me into his story and keep watching this. King Sukjong is also awsome! Choi Min-soo is definitely charismatic actor. While Dae-gil's story is plain bland, boring.

Meanwhile, l really HATE Lee In-jwa, Dae-gil, and Dam-seo. How come a villain knows everything? He's like puppet master, making everyone dances on his palms, and everything goes on his way. Just kill him already and move on to this Jung guy!!! Dae-gil is so stupid, selfish, arrogant, acting like Mr Know-it-all. Unlike Prince Yeoning, he doesn't care about the people in Joseon, he only cares about himself, his father, and Dam-seo. So sad to see Prince Yeoning tries to protect the kingdom and people of Joseon alone.

l hope that there is witness about Lee In-jwa killed Hwon, so that stupid Dae-gil and Crown Prince would finally realize they had let go off a killer. l'm glad Dam-seo died, she's useless. l hope Dae-gil will die as well. l just don't want that twin protectors die after King dies.....

Yeo jin Goo is just phenomenal in this! i watched almost every character he played except for very few but the boy never disappointed me in any of this. Hwayi, No Jun Hyeok (Hongberg), Jung Jae Min and Prince Lee Hwon is my favorite characters he played up to this day. Hope i get to see this guy becoming king Yeongjo in this one. is there any character that Yeo Jin Goo cannot play? just love this guy! others are doing great too. Dea Gil, Seol Im and i have no problem with Dam Seo too. Wonder what would she become at the end. i'm curious about it! Yeo jin Goo fighting!

She can not even project a better expression Her acting is very poor, she needs to undergo a lot of acting workshop and seminar. Her beauty is not even outstanding. She does not even fit to portray an epic kind of role. She is far behind the other actors and actresses who are really brilliant and perfect in their acting in this drama.

gagak May 13 2016 3:42 am @Chaos17: there are so many interesting & brilliant villains in six flying dragons with various personality, you named them lee in gyum, gil tae mi, hong in bang etc. but lee in jwa is simply predictable. he's not clever, he's just playing bad guy all the time. he's so cocky and boring old man, even lee in gyum is more interesting than him. i prefer to see bang won vs hong in bang in a battle of wit, rather than the king vs lee in jwa.

Bang Won from 6th flying dragon would been great with them playing chest/gamble, they would've been terrific villains together haha.

And for the love of god, the actor playing the king is awesome. Everytime he show at the screen he is able to capture the atmosphere of a fearsome king. Yi in jwa is also a terrific villain, that guy isn't where is now for nothing. He is f***ing too clever!! Him and the king make the show for me.

Ain May 12 2016 2:54 am why this drama is worthing to watch,,? because 2 unpredictable plot in this drama : First, who is the villain in this drama ? the king (the person who steal other's wife with a dirty trick in gambling game) / lee in jwa (the person who want to make a better life to the people in Joseon with whatever effort (wrong or right way) / or all of them are villain Second, who is the final couple of baek dae gil? dam seo (his immature first love that have a connection with his father dead) or sul im (the girl who help him when baek dae gil became a slave), but i am pretty sure one of the girl will die and other interesting story that cant be waiting in this drama : 1. When baek dae gil knows that he is a son of sookbin coi who leave him when his child and have a good life in the kingdom,, how the drama will showing baek dae gil feel about his mother = really miss her or really hate her,, 2. Who is the next king? baek dae gil who start his life from the bottom or yeongjo who have a good quality to be a king,,and if yeongjo became a king, the next question why baek dae gil not became a king and the last i hope baek dae gil is a son of baek man geum not premature son of the king because when baek dae gil was child, the king tried to kill him. i hope this is the answer why baek dae gil dont have desire to be the king. He's awesome! l never thought he's actually a kind person, as well as Golsa. l was confuse why he's so kind and care about Seol-im. l thought he is her real father. LOL. Maybe his brother? But his possessive towards Seol-im is kinda different. So he really likes Seol-im? l think it's really cute of him to have such soft spot! Thought it's impossible, but l really want him to stay alive. If Gaejakdoo survives, he could team up with Dae-gil. It's better that way rather than killing him. He is valuable for his skills and information.

l kinda want Seol-im with Dae-gil, but now knowing Gaejakdoo's feelings for Seol-im, it's best for Seol-im with Gaejakdoo, and Dae-gil with Yeon-hwa. l think it's either Seol-im dies because she meddles between Gaejakdoo and Dae-gil, or Dae-gil eventually saves her and Gaejakdoo dies. If Seol-im dies, l think Yeon-hwa will replace her and hopefully coupled up with Dae-gil. He's a prince and main character.

The thing l hate the most is all characters (except King) and events are played by Lee In-jwa. He's like puppet master as he already knows the story, results, and everything always under his plot. That's so annoying! l really want to see him fail just once before the end!

Like in the last episode I saw where Dae Gil saw Yeoning and Dam Seo embracing- the emotion was not sustained in the next scenes. And enough of the cliches. I would love to see Jang Geun Suk in well-written stories again like You're beautiful, you're my pet, and love rain. He's an all-out actor. I feel like the projects he's into sometimes just rely on his charms to get the ratings high. They should give justice to his talents. Anyway, they introduced 2 new possible love interests besides Dam Seo so I'm really looking forward to the next episode. I"M GOING TO FINISH THIS K-DRAMA TO THE 24th EPISODE.

There are a lot of cultural aspects and political stuffs to learn *cough at Bored Ninja Pizza who seems not too knowledgeable anyway to be able to judge properly on this aspect... maybe learning some English properly to understand the subtitle better if you don't speak Korean either? oh yes, I'm being plain straight to the point here*. Ratings are (un)fortunately moderate, not too low- not too high- but it was pre-sold to Japan with a fantastic price per episode anyway, which is higher than the highest rating drama in 2016 namely DotS (you can check all the data if you want to compare properly). In addition, please look at the miserable single digit ratings of wed- thurs dramas as well... have mercy on those underrated dramas as some of them are also really good! For goodness sake, I really cannot stand reading comments who attack other people's preferences by telling them they are dumb.

And I've seen so many historical drama from great such as Jewel in The Palace, Tree With Deep Rooted Tree to not so good drama sucha Kim Soo Ro. People who has enough knowledge and culture will say Daebak is plain stupid (Why the rating is low in South Korea? because they don't know their own culture well? LMFAO). People which is smart enough as a viewer not a blind fan will say it's totally boring. Only kids or dumb teenagers will say it's great, just because Jang Geun Suk is main character in it. I don't hate Jang Geun Suk, I just being honest. Please SBS, end this drama immediately. I can't wait to watch Lee Young Ae's Saimdang, the Herstory. Hope it'll be better than Daebak.

Choi Min-soo is really scary! l don't even know why they all want to kill the king, he's a kind and just, smart and loving person. The bad guys are the ministers and nobles. l think Choi Min-soo really great and has this charisma that is perfect as "tiger king". Just like Dam-seo when she met the king, sometimes l'm too scared seeing the king. LOL

l don't like how there are too many bad guys in here. Good people can be counted with fingers! Prince Yeoning and his man, Sang-gil need to have more skills! They lack in swordsmanship! Feel really bad for Yeoning because he doesn't have backup in palace, so he has to depend on Dae-gil. However, l'm bored with Dae-gil. The story of prince Yeoning and Sukjong dynasty are enough for me. l'm excited to see more of those rather than watching Dae-gil. Like, the tension is toned down when Dae-gil appeared.

Yet, l'm glad that Seol-im came back! She looks great with Dae-gil! It's better that way, and Yeoning with Dam-seo~ but now Golsa's daughter appeared. Wonder is she will be another addition?

That slayer Gaejakdoo, he's actually a good person? Why did he save Seol-im anyway? l also wanna slap the Crown Prince for being so dumb! Half way to go!

After read the history, l'm glad that prince Yeoning lived long after became king. So that means he won't die in this drama. However, prince Yeongsu, which is Dae-gil, died in history. So there is possibility he will die, or disappear after succeeded in revenge. Anyway, l'm thinking that Dam-seo will marry Yeoning since they have more chemistry and story. Based on history Yeoning is married with girl from Seo clan. l wonder if that is Dam-seo?

The 12th ep is so good, i love the connection between Daegil, The Prince and Seol Im..they are so cute. Maybe this drama is not the highest rating or super popular, but i'm glad to read the good reviews from K-netz and K-Media, it's rare to see the bad comments about this drama especially for their actors. They criticized Yoon Jin Seo and Lim Ji Yeon for their acting but they praised the actors.

Cisya May 01 2016 10:54 am This drama reminds me of plain shoujo anime. I stop expecting too much since the 2nd episode. The cinematography is ok, but not the storyline. The characters are not interesting as they intended to. In my opinion, Yoon Jin-Seo as Sookbin Choi is so wrong! She has no charisma to play the role. I also dislike Hong-Mae character, she's overacting & not funny at all. Jang Geun Suk is fine, but not at his best. I like Lim Ji-Yeon character, she's beautiful, dangerous but also has sadness in her eyes. Yeo Jin-Goo has the aura as a prince, but no more than that. Lee In Jwa is boring antagonist character, he's either stupid or too mean in his way to take revenge. I felt no strong emotion against him. The king is also confusing, he's too harsh for the real historical Sookjong of Joseon but easy to scam at the same time. The acting is fine, but IMHO the personality of the king character is so wrongfully interpreted. Kwon Soon Gyu needs to improve his writing skill next time. Maybe that's the reason why this sageuk has low rating in Korea. Thanks to Jang Geun Suk, Jackpot is favored by many viewer outside South Korea.

Like you know how some male actors look like a walking robot but they make him "cool" and all the girls love him. But if there was no spunky love interest and just another girl just like him no one would watch it.

If the boys didn't brighten the screen trust me I would not watch her.

It will ridicule Jang Geun Suk's character as he is the main lead of this drama only to be paired to a supporting actress not that i'm belittling her character and the actress. It's just ridiculous that some people are actually shipping them just because of that 2 episode they had. And yes, she might appear again in the next future episodes but she'll only be second to Dam Seo who already captured Baek Dae Gil's heart in Episode 4 and as to Dam Seo's feelings its already established that Baek Dae Gil has her heart in the scene where he falls from the cliff. Dam Seo running to look for him and shedding a tear was a sign for her blooming romantic feelings for my beloved Dae Gil.. It's sad though that Yeo Jin-Goo has only one-sided love because he's also a perfect lead for a drama but here he is just second to Jang Geun Suk but his role is still good because he is not an evil prince who will try to ruin Dae Gil. Instead he is warm, sincere though sometimes power-hungry but he's just like his Hyung, good-natured all in all even the crown prince is good though he's physically and emotionally weak. I had hopes for the three to have bromance but the crown prince seems that he will die soon. Anyways it's still okay i just hope Yeoning and Dae Gil will be friends despite the feelings they have for the same girl. But then again i want Baek Dae Gil to marry Dam Seo just like what he said when he first saw her. I still remember that he said that at first glance he knew Dam Seo would be the woman he will marry. It will be sad for Prince Yeoning but he has Joseon and he always dreamt of becoming a king so it's still good for him because Dae Gil will never try to steal it from him even though he is also a prince.

She was raised to assassinate the King and i believe if you were raised in Lee In Jwa's environment, emotions are not allowed so she grew up to be intimidating and emotionless but because of Baek Dae Gil's warm and sincere feelings she starts to grow up and you can see in episode 9 that there are already emotions in her eyes when she saw Baek Dae Gil and it's confirmed that she already loves Baek Dae Gil when she unconsciously called his name in Episode 10.. Don't judge her immediately but i can't blame you because this is a comment section for the drama but then if only you could widen the possibilities for her, she's really fit for her character and her interest for Baek Dae Gil has only just begun. She was ice-cold to him in the beginning because of his pursuit but when he stopped we can see that she longs for it now. Now we can watch more episodes of her having emotions. And by the way she's only a rookie actress, she's still learning so it's good if we can be more understanding that she still need to harness her skills but we can all agree that she'll be a great actress someday. She's just like Suzy when she started out in Dream High. She still has room for improvement so let's be more understanding.

It's not really easy to understand and it starts giving a multiple plot but so far it gets me hooked. I am looking forward to the day when the two princes work together to fight the one bad guy and his team. I am also waiting for the time where the female lead finally cracks her 'egg shell'. Im Ji Yeon might not be the most perfect female lead cast yet, however I'm still willing to give her a chance!

I even have a second lead syndrome again after Baek In Ho in Cheese in the trap. Seriously guys, you should watch this drama. It's not your typical romantic comedy or cheesy love story but If you'll just give it a try, you'll get hooked to it just like me.

Until now i find the story intresting, there good character development for the three main leads, and the heroin (even if i am not so fond of the actress) is actully a real character with her own motivation and purpose, wich is not really common in saeguk. She is not just the cute thing that the two handsome guys are fighting over !

There also good questionnements like who is actully ruling the wolrd, money (Yi In Jwa), Laws (Yeonim), Violence/army (the king) or the people (Dae Gil)

I hope the drama dosen't enlighten and become just about cheesy romance and comics relief, i hope the drama keep his line and dig his questions to give us a real answer !

Plus i would like to say that if i watch saeguk it's because i want to see combat, traps, death and torture (i'm not au sadist, it's just what i expect to see) If i wanted a cute comedy a would go see something else !

And finally (i know it's long and probably not really proper english ! sorry !) it's not because i'm a girl that i'm going to runaway because we see a bit of blood or a guy eating a snake ! It's not like we were seeing his brain pop out of his skull or his guts lying on the floor !

But the writer Kwon Soon-Gyu is the one to blame for many flaws in the storyline, he failed once again to create a great sageuk. I'm not surprised at this drama's low rating. Jang Geun Suk that I loved in Beethoven virus & Hwang Jin Yi cannot give his best as Dae Gil not because he can't act, but the bad story writing & characterization itself prevent him to shine this time. After all, JGS looks younger than he really are and I love to see him again on TV. Hopefully he'll take part in another sageuk, that is well-written & epic one next time that will let him shine again. Cross finger :)

I don't know the casts who're all playing in this drama nor anyone in Korea but I like the screenplay, acting, motivational characters built in this drama.

I'm not going to recommend this drama to watch. But I didn't wanted to explain why. Since we're all humans with acute intellectuals always debate and kill the time for nothing to change what's happening.

But I wanted to say something that we lost our insights,

Think optimistic and find fun in your time spends and get some interest and write some good comments to watch or watch some interesting drama and comment there good.

If you're hating this drama, you're passively watching this gaining nothing in the end. But those who're working in this drama gains anyways whether or not you enjoyed.

So, here's my most valuable advice,

Focus on your work and find fun in it and serve the nation. Don't lose the intelligence on judging some funless things you felt. Unless our working field is filming, we're not supposed to spoil one's own mood as well as others' . Try to learn from your experience. Be happy and try attract others to happy.

You have the Games Master, Lee In Jwa (a revolutionary) versus the crafty old King Sookjong (the beast with 100 eyes and 1000 ears) spar to install the right heir to the Joseon throne. Two half brothers become unwitting pawns in the power play. This is unlike any saeguk I have watched because power rests not only from the throne but to those who wield the power of money. Gambling, after all, is the exchange of money from loser to winner and with the House (gambling den) always on the take. There is also a shade of the classic story Count of Monte Cristo where the aggrieved has his day of revenge. Very promising piece of work!

See the line above: "Jackpot" takes over the SBS Monday & Tuesday 22:00 time slot previously occupied by "Six Flying Dragons". Most viewers won't move on easily after a epic drama such as Six Flying Dragons which is can be the best historical drama of 2016. Viewers -most of them are Six Flying Dragons viewers- have a high expectation of Jackpot, but they find it not as good as "our previous drama". IMO, Jackpot has many weakness compared to the other korean dramas in general. It's not about the stars (cast) or genre, nor fictionalized history thing. Jang Geun Suk, Yeo jin Goo, Choi Min Soo, etc, they're all unquestionably talented actors. It's not their fault if this drama was just another average drama that won't win the critics' heart. About not-so-historical drama, I think there are plenty fictionalized historical dramas that actually good and worth watching. It's the storyline, the writings, the characterization, you can put a long list of this drama's problems. It tends to be comical like Hong Gil Dong, but I find it Jackpot is not funny at all. It lacks of wit & humor... in the other hand it's not serious too. I think gambling is just a "makeup" in this drama, you can clearly see it but it's not the natural face itself. After all, the good thing about Jackpot is the cinematography. I hope it will entertain your eyes if not your hearts (& minds).

The incomparable cannot be incommensurable! Okay you're right, me myself, I'm hoping that yoo ah in can take over all the historical dramas, seing how much I loved him in SFD and knowing that no actor out there can act like he did. It will be hard for me to change yoo ah in for any other actor he is just the best. But it doesn't mean that this drama is not good, it is actually truly interesting and has nothing to do with true history, it was just set in a historical period. Enjoy the drama if you like it if you don't you can still give your opinion but for god's sake don't bring up six flying dragons, they are two different dramas, two different levels of cast, two different themes!

I would say the idea of create a historical drama with gambling theme is pretty ambitious. Gambling itself has many dimension, not only a bunch of people doing betting activities. It painfully boring watching gambling here and there sometimes for no reason, the writer tried too hard to convince the audience that: the theme is gambling, ladies and gents!! yeah, tell me something i don't know! If you want to see a realistic good drama about gambling, watch Lee byung Hun's "All In". You'll see & you will understand why Daebak is far from Daebak.

I like how different it is from the other sageuks, although the setting is actually the 'same old same old' Sukjong period. I like the veteran actors especially Choi Min Soo with his different portrayal of King Sukjong... you won't see the love fool & indecisive king here... you'll see a badass king who is the real alpha male himself! I also love how the element of gambling is thrown here and there in this drama. Quoting one of the reviews I read just a few days ago: "gambling is a distorted reality, a reality realized through dirty tricks." (from loving k-drama blog) And oh... really excited to see how Jang Geun Seok turns out to be a great comedian who brings a fresh air into the intensity the drama has been started with. Yeo Jin Goo is such a potential young actor, too. I'm really looking forward to how these two actors show their respective charisma further in this drama. 'Daebak' is daebak indeed!

We often see scenes of traditional card game (tujeon) or a simple form of gambling portrayed in a historical drama yet there has been no dramas taking this as a main theme yet. 'Daebak' might seem to be a bit confusing for those who don't get a thing about gambling and the metaphor it brings for people's lives. So far we've seen how different characters' lives in this drama have 'changed' in some ways because of gambling elements- both literally and metaphorically. I'm curious to see how the story will go after the younger generation of characters has been introduced in the latest episodes 3 & 4.

For having a husband like that, how in the world can she endure all of that if she were not to make such decision. Been waiting patiently for the 3rd episode now:D P.S there are so many good dramas airing at this drama(etc; DOTS,CBM,GB Mr. B that i feel like all my life is about are dramas dramas dramas now)

I think I'm gonna enjoy watching a rivalry between Jeon Kwang-Leol's and Choi Min Soo's characters once more, although this time it may not be as long as the one they had in „Warrior Bake Dong-Soo”. And it's fun to see Lee Moon-Shik in a buffoon role again, although it looks like things are gonna get pretty bad for his character.

lizz Mar 29 2016 9:42 am Amazing cinematography and great acting from Choi Min Soo and Jeon Kwang Ryeol. And Jang geun suk's eyes are really expressive and his voice is made for a saeguk drama. I love the first episode but my only concern is that why can't JKR just find an unattached woman to lure/tempt the King. It would be less complicated of a plan. Or maybe we could see in the future episode on why he choose "her".

These both actor really the best. The way Choi Min Soon acted, he's really gave me goosebumps with his calmly face. I think Dae gil is son of Jang Ok Jung and YeongJo son of Book Soon.

Yeon Jin Seo as the 'misfortunate' Choi Suk-bin is also good! cannot wait for the next one!!! this deserves a good rating for a start, really...

The last decent drama that I remember he was in was Mary stay out all night. His drama after that wasn't that good. I'm more excited to see yeo Jin Goo performance. Lately he and Kwak Dong Yeon steals my attention. Kwak Dong Yeon remind me of MIke D'Angelo( thai actor), that's why i like him...haha.

His last sageuk drama was 'the moon embracing the sun' and even if he only played the younger version of Kim Soo Hyun, he was really convincing in his role. Especially the part where Kim You Jung were separated. He's made for sageuk drama's. I hope Kim You-Jung and YJG will make a sageuk drama together in the future.
