Kim Byeong-Gook (Bae Sung-Woo) works as a section chief at a company. He is a family man and reliable with at his job, but, one day, he kills his entire family and disappears. Detective Jong-Hoon (Park Sung-Woong) investigates the murder case and talks with his Kim Byeong-Gook's co-workers at his office. His colleagues though are not very forthcoming with details. Besides, Lee Mi-Rye (Ko Ah-Sung), who was very close with Kim Byeong-Gook, they seem to be hiding something. Detective Jong-Hoon checks the CCTV system and observes Kim Byeong-Gook returning to work after the murders, but he can't locate when he left the office.

Meanwhile, the co-workers at the office become shaken with anxiety over Kim Byeong-Gook's whereabouts.

Kalikiano Kalei Jun 06 2021 6:53 pm Without question, this is a long film. I cannot analyse this from a Korean perspective, but rather from that of a Westerner. In my opinion it suffers from a number of lapses in continuity here and there and better editing/writing would have likely improved its impact considerably. The acting, on the other hand, was generally quite good across the board and the 'false leads' and 'blind corners' in trying to second-guess the twists and turns of the plot did add quite a bit to the film's adeptness.

As has already been noted by Yumi, the film and its plot are indeed a good exposure of the stresses and pressures of the typical Korean corporate office environment and the potential effects that high-stress milieu can have on its employees.

Despite the film's protracted length, I very much enjoyed 'The Office' and the twist at the end of Mirae accepting a new job interview (to potentially repeat the process) after her discharge from hospital is quite intriguing!

Ejlonebluetear is also correct! Parts of the film were VERY creepy (and thus enjoyable!).

anu May 10 2021 9:11 am plot wise maybe this isn't the best one, but for the acting, Ko Ah Sung really nailed this movie. Her acting was so great so it can help this movie to be watchable movie.

Fayesha Jul 31 2020 5:36 pm I Think the writer is intently makes the ending to be a sh1t hole, because too many plot hole. i read a disappointing comment hear so i can handle this disappointment, so i hope you read this and brace you're self for it. and if you love thriller and mystery genre, i think you will still watch this, because 4/5 of the movie is not bad. the rest 1/5 will torture you for a bad writing.

I think it shows a good glimpse of the Korean office environment at a top-rate company (maybe a bit exaggerated) and what's at stake as an intern/temporary worker. Now, the ending has some plot holes like [spoilers!!] why tf didn't anyone call the police and how was Mirae able to wrestle that knife with Wonsuk when she's this petite little girl.....but setting that aside, I think what's even more annoying is the vague ending where the police catch the wrong killer and let her go free. Mirae and Mr. Kim represent two broken people who were unable to adapt to the cut-throat environment of the office. They begin as kind people, but as time passes they realize that they are just small cogs of a bigger monster; their lives and their families mere secondary to the most important thing: working and profits. Because of this Mr. Kim kills his family probably triggered about what his boss said about taking care of his sick son. Yet, he decides to kill himself at his company, most likely in order to ruin their reputation. The rest plays out more like a revenge sequence. I see this as Mirae finally adapting to the dog eat dog world. Also the fact that she isn't caught by police but goes on to another interview is a testament that this was her way of surviving the Korean work culture and that in the end, even the police officer who is a government worker and was determined to uncover the truth and probably even knew the truth, wasn't immune to the enticement of a promotion. The ending is merely that; a manifestation of the greed caused by a broken system.

motorradhermes Jul 02 2016 2:16 pm I agree with the comment below me, this movie was more like a psychological thriller. The movie for me was an okay watch.. nothing special or extraordinary. Like most thrillers I was hooked until the end but I was not satisfied with the resolution of the film.

I rate this movie a 5.5/10.
