Hatori Matsuzaki (Mirei Kiritani) is a female high school student. She has a crush on her childhood friend Rita Terasaka (Kento Yamazaki) and believes he will eventually choose her as her heroine, but Rita Terasaka begins dating Miho Adachi. Meanwhile, the most popular male student, Kosuke Hiromitsu (Kentaro Sakaguchi) takes an interest in Hatori Matsuzaki.

At first I watched this because of Yamaken but I dislike Rita's character and ended up rooting for Hiromitsu instead. It was very fun to watch Hatori and Hiromitsu together.

2 hours wasted, but if you're in to the conventional love square this might be a hit for you.

Kentaro was awesome though and I get how brilliantly he portrayed his spoilt brat character in Gomen, aishteru now...when I watched the series I was mostly annoyed by his mannerisms as being overly cutesy but in this film it worked and he outshone the other actor/actresses.

As for Kento I am willing to forgive him for disappearing for bits in the film, I blame the screenplay writers for giving him little to work with...which is why

I am thankful that the lead actress was not demure but lively, confident and beautiful ... She made me believe that both guys were totally smitten by her.

Whatever you call me after read my comment but admit it i got the point May 27 2019 12:10 am When I was watching this for the first time, I had liked Hiromitsu from the start and at that time I felt sad when Hatori didnt end up with him. But now with my more mature mindset I'm glad he didnt end up with her. It's not because I ship Hatori and Rita, it's because Hatori were really not worth it (not just for Hiromitsu) but for all the guys who will love her wholeheartedly, as long as she still attach with her sentimental-childhood friends-relationship with Rita. So does with Rita. Adachi could be annoying but Rita is honestly jerk. He's not fuckboy, he's clearly a softboy who sometimes looks soft and harmless but actually a jerk.

So I'll just straight up say this movie could be toxic/give wrong perception to those teenagers beholder who still has dreamy mindset about love affairs. You can call me arrogant but I sincerely hope, for those with naive perception, i hope through this movie you'll realize that ;

1. Dont ever fall in love with someone who still attached to their first love / most memorable ex. Even if they say they really end their feelings, like Hatori and Rita said ; "the feelings will never lost"

2. Don't keep your obsession.

3. If you are the one that had "never-ending-feeling" with someone, you better not giving hope to other person who truly likes you.You're not guarding their feelings, instead you're underestimating them and wasting their precious time.

P.S. why i prefer Hiromitsu, despite of his appearance, i think his role has the most common sense over anybody who are wishy washy and childish.

Mindy Sep 23 2018 3:46 pm Disappointing movie. To put it bluntly, the female lead was slightly annoying tbh and the male lead I found to be quite boring. His character lacked development and so I ended up not really getting him as a person. The second lead was kind of attractive, with a likable personality, I'll admit.

Overall, I felt the plot was quite dull and frustrating to watch. I didn't understand why the characters made the decisions they made and that really killed the joy of watching it. Honestly, I didn't find it very funny, either.

Wouldn't recommend it. Utter waste of time.

Hmm Jan 29 2018 5:18 am While reading the manga of Sensei Kunshu, I read somewhere that this is a spin-off story of Sensei Kunshu. So Kentaro is the brother of Ryoma Takeuchi in Sensei Kunshu. Just saying.. :D

But for 2014-2017 movies so far that i've watched. This one is by far i loooooove. Funny but serious at the same time. The acting was not overrated unlike the others and i wasn't bored at all when i watched this.

I have read the manga and I was always rooting for kosuke.. i did like him in the manga but the live action mad me fall for him.. kentaro's portrayal is so good. and as iritating as rita in the manga, kento's portrayal of rita made me hate rita much more.. thus making this movie really really great.. though i hope they had made this longer, like a drama, to further express the feelings

Im a fan of Kento Yamazaki but Kentaro though...he made me agree that this movie have the stronger 2nd male lead syndrome!

Mirei is so gorgeous...like she was the most beautiful leading female cast I've seen from all the Japanese movie I've watched!

Hiromitsu character is made with the purpose to make we all fall in love with him. I mean, he's so perfect. He almost had no flaws. He fits the 'hero' role so much better than rita.

But that whats this movie is all about, just like hatori herself is a 'failed heroine', rita is also one. He's lacking a lot. He has weakness, insecurities, and sometimes he made a lot of mistake, so much the opposite compared to hiromitshu..rita is not perfect, but he's a perfect role for a "failed hero"....

Thats why rita and hatori made a great couple as a failed hero and heroine. They've been together for so long. No one can stop their bond (even hiromitshu was well aware of this).

And I really really happy because this movie unexpectedly good. I think the last time i have so much fun watching this kind of movie was when i watched kokou debut.. Yuri Jul 20 2016 11:30 am If I were to put myself in Hatori's shoes, I don't think I'd be able to handle Rita. But her persistence ia charming. And it's true that for a person with a lot of emotional baggage, you would want to care for them more and as a result, you'd fall in love with them more.

As for the acting..I found Kento's a bit lacking. The feeling was just wasn't there for me when it comes to how he portrayed his role. On the other hand, Mirei and Kentaro did a good job. They expressed their emotions neatly throughout the film. Overall, good job

Rae Jul 03 2016 7:50 am SPOILERS AHEAD. I liked the movie version more than the manga to be honest (I'm surprised myself, it's a rare thing right?). It's really funny how they were able to show Hatori's face as well and how annoyed Nakajima is all the time lol. The best part about this, compared to the manga, is how Rita had shown his emotions which made me understand him more. I really hated (on the manga) it when Hatori chose him even after all the BS Rita gave her. But this movie has given Rita justice. TLDR, it's perfect and a must watch if you really like Shoujo mangas. Good job, Kento. Improving movie after a movie.

This isn't just comical, but the actor could portrayed the character greatly! I really could feel the "feelings" of each character ^^ Love them! Especially kiritani mirei, yamazaki kento, & sakaguchi kentaro..

sakayama May 01 2016 11:19 am Sakaguchi kentaro was former model who become actor starting last year (2015), but he already got five project movie from his debut. Eventhough it still supporting role but its awesome for such newcomer. Yup his age is 3 year older than yamazaki kento, but for acting i say both in equal positions. And kento have been doing acting for 6 year. For yamazaki kento point, i think he is in his peak now. That's why he being everywhere. Same as sota fukushi few year ago. It's not that kento playing safe, i think his agency the one who doing this. Have you wacth the latest death note drama version? Kento was act as L in there and his acting was good. I just hope that he will get his first lead role in drama next year, because its impossible to get it this year with his super busy schedule.

IT'S SO CUTEEEEE. I literally screaming (almost) the whole time. Mirei is so funny especially when she scream "Nakajima" and those facial expression XD AND I'M FALLING FOR KENTARO OMG. Second lead syndrome all the time:') His smile I can't and he is so handsomeee!

I love this movie more than the other live-action movies from manga I had ever seen before!

She is bad and she knows it, yet she still love Rita with all her heart. While I understand and relate to her, I also think that she didn't deserve such love from Hiromitsu and she herself knows it. That's why I think it's perfect fit that she ended up with Rita, who didn't realize that Hatori is the one he liked from beginning. Rita and Hatori is just meant for each other since beginning.

I think he did great in this movie. I like Yamaken but L-DK, Orange, Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Oji and now, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. Well he's everywhere. It's good to see some change, though.

Actually i am agree with some aspect of lola said but ririko also right too. About kento should dare to try chalenging role as a professional actor. Not only depend on his look and loyal fans. About yamaken newcamer award and his gain popularity specially for female fans.

Kentaro acting is way more good than kento im HS..probably because his acting is more mature than kento and the role is very fit with him. Thats the point is..an professional actor should choose the role who really suit with him. Even he is 2nd male he can steal the audience attention more than the lead male in HS.

Kento acting is still in "NG" level now..but if he dares to choose more difficult role not only shojo..bcause recently he gain so many critics on twitter of other forums, most manga reader entitle him as "shojo actor" this is not good for him as an a professional actor.

Ririko Apr 04 2016 2:28 pm Sorry to say Kentaro Sakaguchi, if your fans have the needs to feel sorry for someone, they should feel sorry for you instead of Yamaken. It may appear that you shine here but that's only because the script and the director makes your CHARACTER so. Don't be confused!

And one movie like this says nothing about an actor's career. Even after the success of this movie, while Yamaken went on to have another box office hit (Orange), get Japan Academy Newcomer Award, and be cast in lead roles in several high-profile projects, Kentarou is still stuck in supporting roles. All that happens when Kentarou's 3 years older.

It should be as clear as day now who you should direct your sorry to.

i think he is briliant, even with that good looking face kentaro prefer choose so many role..not only a flower boy like kento did. Yamapi should try different role too..

Kanna Mar 31 2016 1:07 pm I'm still not over Kento Yamazaki's performance in this movie. I mean all the cast were fantastic but UGH KENTO is just brilliant! He played his "lone hurt boy" role here with such finesse and class. Even though it's just another shoujo role, he worked his own magic into the character again.

Shezera Mar 31 2016 5:19 am OH MY GOD! kyaaaaaaahhhhh! the feels men the FEELS! Love this movie so much. Read the manga (it was good) but for me, the movie was even better. The movie gave me insights and some realization. I think that the ending was worth it. At first after reading the manga I actually disliked how Rita and Hatori ended up being together. But in this movie I finally understand why. HUHUHUHU. KENTO is so good, he portrayed his character even better than what i expected it to be like how it was in the manga. And hiromitsu kun too, love him. So cool. The girl also did a pretty good job despite having an overwhelming script she has to act(sacrificing your image so much T^T... it was cute though). Everyone did a very good job including the casting. This movie is so much worth my time. Love this so very much.

Is it wrong for me if I root the second lead instead of his crush??? gosh... I wish Kentaro will get another movie where he would act as the first lead and gets the girl..... I hope Daytime Shooting Star will be made as a movie and Kentaro as Mamura <3

Not to lie, this movie also has some sad scenes but seriously this is the best. I cant wait for "I dont want to listen to kurosami kun" live action. That one sound funny too. Now i'm watching the ongoing dorama(sumire sumira) act by mirei(the heroine)

It was such a great teen-romance movie compared to my last 2 jmovies (Ao Haru Ride and Strobe Edge). I didn't expect to be this good. It's one of the few movies that I literally didn't want to end... It was not cliche, it has no cringy scenes and most important it looks real in some kind of a way xD you can see a tiny--huge-- difference in the way it was directed that is different (dunno what... the script, the way the director made it etc.) it stands out from others Japanese movies and I love it! Too many main stream movies that are boring from my point of view these days. This movie has everything you want: from a beautiful female lead and not 1, but 2! hot male lead to comedy and not much but enough romance for a jmovie. I recommend it 105%! You'll not regret it! Trust me.

He's handsome, popular, loyal, clever, warm and understanding. He move from play boy to loyal boyfriend in this manga. If you read the manga you will more understand about their character. And i think this movie will better if they make to second season. So we have heroine shikkaku part 1 and part 2!

She's really comical here. ^^ And as for both male actors, they are great as well. I love how they portray their respective roles. I like the Hiromitsu-kun's character here than in the manga.

kentaro Mar 09 2016 2:08 pm finally watch the movie. as expected the casts was really great! mirei kiritani really perfect for playing hatori, yamaken and kentaro too, both of them really perfect for playing rita and hiromitsu. they are really match with the character. eventhought the story bit different from the manga, but it still acceptable. in the end, as fans heroine shikkaku manga i recommend all of you to watch this movie.

nath Jan 26 2015 9:00 am wawww,,, Shuusei & Mamura. I like both of them Kento and Kentaro. I wish that Hirunaka no ryuusei will be adapted to live action too and Sakaguchi Kentaro as Mamura,,yayy. As i know that Momoko Koda said that Mirei kiritani is a model of Hatori character when she was doing this manga, who knows Sakaguchi Kentaro like that too if HNR be adapted.

Although him would be perfect as Mamura if ever Hirunaka no Ryuusei be adapted to live-action. Hmmm I'm a bit skeptical about casting Mirei Kiitani as Hatori cause it willl be better if they cast a younger actress. But well I'll bet she willl manage to pull off the high school look cause she's always doing that kind of character anyway.
