I also learned some aspects of the culture and fell in love with that as well. I enjoyed the slow roll of the beautiful love story that underpinned the drama nicely. This story has multiple layers that, as they unfolded, compelled me deeper into the story until the last episode. I have a question: I edited a memoir that is now published, and the author's story needs to be told. Might you read her story and consider whether you would write the screenplay for it? Stuart Gassel Mar 01 2023 8:23 pm I have watched season 1 three times. Each viewing exposes more insight and a deeper understanding of human nature. What an incredibly beautifully written drama. The emotional depth of each episode is simply remarkable. Thank you for creating this masterful series. I anxiously await season 2. Michele Jan 28 2023 4:32 am Hi Ji-won - thank you for writing The Extraordinary Atorney Woo - Excellent production. But I want to ask you to move to the next level and write the more complex story of someone like me - on the spectrum but looks normal - mostly - a bit odd. Maybe masking or not, I don't think I do. But people misjudge me. I think it would be really educational for non-autistic people to see how people like me feel and struggle - trying so hard, too hard. Brilliant but unwanted. I really want the world to get us and give us a go - even if we are a tiny bit weird and annoying. Another thing is, that being Korean, judgmental Westerners feel like they are watching another interesting world - the Korean world of Kimbap and bows - yet the feelings are all there just the same. Thanks. Gregg West Jan 15 2023 4:12 am I hope you read English. I just finished watching the first season of Extraordinary Attorney Woo (with French subtitles as I live in France) and I was Very impressed by a host of things. Fine acting, fine directing, and above all, Amazing screen writer talent! You've combined moving dialogue, a wide variety of social issues (feminism, treatment of the handicapped, ecology, business ethics, work ethics, spirituality and so much more....), and very touching human relationships to make what, in my humble opinion, is the best-written television series I've seen in my 70 years of existence. Park Eun-bin is astounding, as are several other actresses and actors in the series. But I especially want to congratulate you Moon Ji-Won for your incredible talent. May life continue to shine on you. eclipse s Jan 02 2023 11:56 pm i have cried so many times watching this show. as someone who likely has autism (undiagnosed) with a variety of friends who have autism and other disabilities, this show was an incredible refreshment. from woo young woo’s characterisation as a child, to the side characters introduced, the show portrayed in incredible amount of nuance and information about autism. ive seriously never seen a show like it. a show where autistic characters are recognised as having autonomy, where they arent all young white boys with interests in science or trains, where traits other than the most well-known ones are shown so incredibly accurately and respectfully. i was amazed with the level of detail in each interaction and each detail of each character. things like woo young woo’s struggles with deception, romantic love, clothing, food, selfharm when overstimulated…. they really hit home. i felt represented in a way that i never have before. so many depictions of autistic people in media are either repeating the same narrative given out constantly, which never offer any other perspective of the spectrum, or pander to an allistic audience and allows them to make fun of autistic characters, skewing their real life perceptions of autistic people. i cannot properly express my gratitude for the writing of this show through words, and am honestly crying as i write this. i just finished the show and i cannot explain to you how much meaning it will hold in my heart for the rest of my life. it also helped me in my own self discovery, and i will eternally be grateful to the writer moon ji-won for his incredible levels of detail, nuance and respect for autistic and other disabled people (along with any other people responsible for the writing and production of the show). junhos characterisation as an allistic love interest made me think about my own fear of romance because of my character, and gave me hope. seeing someone truly love an autistic character, fight for them, defend them but also be honest with them, help them through life but not act as an allistic saviour, was truly something ive never seen on tv before. i dont have the words to express my amazement. with all of this, and the plot of the show, each episode being enthralling and interesting, emotional and incredibly well thought out? i dont know what to say. though he will probably never see or hear my words, i hope that he feels the love and support from people worldwide that i have seen so far. millions of us feel grateful and relieved for a show like this. thank you, moon ji-won. Valerie Brown Nov 11 2022 4:33 pm This was my first exposure to K-drama, and I was so impressed with the production quality, the writing and directing, the actors, the music, everything. I don't usually like fantasy in movies, but I instantly bought in to the whales floating along with Woo Young Woo. Kang Tae-oh and Park Eun-bin were amazing, but so were all the supporting cast. I think every episode had something in it that brought tears to my eyes. I don't know how you learn to act like Tae-oh; the facial expressions and physicality he used were just spot on. I'm in awe of his talent. I could go on and on, but another element in all this for me is it cultivated a new interest in South Korean history and culture which frankly I did not have at all before watching this show. Thank you to everyone involved for this rich experience. Mark V. Nov 04 2022 2:53 am This is the first Korean drama show i’ve watched and i’m now… emotionally distressed. Somehow this show touched a few chords hidden very deep inside myself. I cannot express everything i feel right now, after just watching the last episode, and yet i cannot all conceal my being … drenched in admiration and love and… tears. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! Everyone. MARTHA NEUMANN Oct 05 2022 10:16 pm Hello! Please---tell me that the "corrections" to some of the Extraordinary Attorney Woo episodes will be reverted back to what we first saw!! As the writer, I think a great disservice has been done to your wonderful series. I hope that the original script can be put back. The actress that plays Woo's birth mother deserves whatever award is the most prestigious in Korea for her gut wrenching performance when Woo confronts her with who she is. We often watch this snippet, along with some other absolute favorites.....but when I recently went to rewatch it--I was floored to hear how it had been chopped, and rewritten, and just had to reach out to you to protest!!! Hopefully this series-and as many as you do-will be available on DVD--but not, hopefully, with redone dialogue!! We love the series, and the cast!! Great job...but, why mess with perfection? All the best!!! Charlotte Hunter Sep 14 2022 9:40 pm Spectacular writing about the multi-layered subject of autism. You gave us a heroine whose challenges were never really seen as scars, but instead were all the bright stars of her beautiful personality. I've been watching k-dramas for 6 years and this was #693--a masterpiece of heart, courage, innocence, intelligence and warm-hearted humour. I've admire korean screenwriters as some of the best globally, and it's so nice that more & more people are getting the chance to see life through the lens of korean culture. Many other commenters have mentioned how they were also impacted by the american series "The Good Doctor", but that medical drama series too ha it's roots in Korean storytelling. It's based on the 2013 South Korean series of the same name. Actor Daniel Dae Kim bought the rights, adapted the series and was able to bring on board David Shore, creator of the Fox medical drama House, to develop the series. "The Good Doctor" was written by Park Jae-bum who also wrote "Vincenzo" on Netflix. Like he did, I really hope you will continue to write more series as well. The world could use more depth of insight into the human condition. You, are a rich talent, please share more with us. Susan Wolf Sep 06 2022 12:25 pm I am a philosophy professor at the University of North Carolina. I just finished watching your delightful show, and was struck by a scene in the last episode, when Attorney Woo tried to identify an emotion she was experiencing. I wrote a book some years ago - which has been translated into Korean! - called Meaning in Life and Why It Matters. In it, I discuss the difference between feelings of happiness, satisfaction and fulfillment, understanding fulfillment as the emotion reflecting a sense that one is living a meaningful life. Could you have read the book? I assume that you didn't, but even so, the coincidence of our thoughts was a happy validation. Thanks for a great series. Thomas Aug 25 2022 12:00 pm Incredible level of emotional sensitivity in your writing. Everyone loves an underdog and you’ve written her with great depth of understanding. The narwhal in belugas analogy was literary perfection. If you ever decide to venture away from autism as the underdog’s plight, I recommend that you read KAREL, The Lone Wolf Howls about a small boy trying to grow up in WWII Czechoslovakia. It’s as heart rending and gloriously resolved as was Attorney Woo and should be a screenplay for TV. Congratulations! Best of all TV dramas I’ve seen including those on American TV. Guilty_pleasure Aug 22 2022 1:31 am Many thanka for writing mastepiece !! Maria MN Aug 18 2022 10:10 am Great job on a great drama. Cast was brilliant, and looking forward to season 2. Hoping that you bring back all of the original cast, don't ruin Season 2. I was always ready on Wednesdays and Thursdays to see EAW here in Dallas, Texas. Loved this love story. The crew and cast did a fantastic job. Can't wait for Season 2. When will dramas have meet the cast in USA cities. Masyurah Aug 16 2022 9:30 pm Congratulations and great job on producing Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The story line is brilliant and the casts are gifted and talented. Worth five star rating! Celestine Aug 11 2022 7:12 pm I only started following kdrama about 3 months ago, needless to say, I am hooked. I have been a movie buff (American mostly) for years. Also worked in the industry for a while too. I thought I had seen some of the best in kdrama already until Extraordinary Attorney Woo. I really wanted to thank you Ms Moon for sharing this beautiful story. My heartfelt thanks to the director and actors too. I saw the American series of the Good Doctor and I was so taken. From the first episode of EAW I was blown away. Your story touched me perhaps because I am a mother of a child with autism. He is 17 now, not aspergers but high functioning. It has been quite a journey. As I watched your story unfold, there were so many emotions that I felt. It was heartbreaking to see Jun Ho and Young Woo break up but thank you for making it so real. I don't know how my son's story will unfold but I hope your story sees Jun Ho and Young Woo fight for their relationship to work. This will be my glipse of hope for my child too. Gloria McMenamin Aug 07 2022 5:43 am Thanks to your great story I’m enjoying EAW so much I have to give credit to your great talent , so refreshing , and heartwarming especially during this pandemic. I probably wouldn’t have watched Netflix if it were not due to social distancing. But so glad I did. Definitely should be dubbed in English to encourage people to watch it. Hope you can write more inspiring stories such as this. ❤️❤️❤️❤️From the USA. My 1st time to search for the story writer but you deserve credits. HugChair Aug 03 2022 10:15 am I watched 150+ Kdramas since 2020 and this is my first time to comment because I can't help it. I just watched the Episode 11 of Extraordinary Attorney Woo and I love it so much and this far. Thank you for the amazing lovestory of a person with Autism and a normal person. I felt their genuine love for each other and it makes my heart flutter everytime. I hope to see a very happy ending for them cause I don't like Atty. Woo to feel heartache and heartbreak. Char Aug 02 2022 12:58 am I resisted watching because I thought nothing could top "The Good Doctor" from years back, which I loved...but you did exactly that. Everything in this drama illustrates, illuminates and enlightens us about the Autism spectrum, and you've done it using fine, delicate character details and showed us the many the conflicting perspectives so many of us have around this condition. I fell in love with Attorney Woo from the start. Her autism was only part of who she was, and never defined her or took away from her charming self. The different cases she took on allowed us to watch her grow and find her power as an attorney as well as a woman. The actress who portrayed her had phenomenal skills and hopefully will win an award for this performance. All in all, writer-nim, you hit this ball out of the park. Congratulations. Orange Jul 17 2022 2:13 am I like Extraordinary Attorney Woo so looked up who the writer is. I found that your other movie you have screen-written is about law and tackles issues about autism. I love how you write the reality and creativity. Thanks for writing Atty Woo. One of my fave characters in Kdrama land. Thanks to Park Eun Bin who gives life and perfect as Atty Woo. Aja Writer-nim! Dian Jul 14 2022 10:20 am Its difficult to find great law drama after i hear your voice. But this drama from the first ep it will drag you to watch 2nd, 3rd then latter and even make u ponder about next. Such a brilliant scriptwritter you are, im a doctor itself yet there are so many thing we dont know about autism child, it is really a spectrum disease. The dialogue, scene, role there, just mesmerizing. It just really true when his father said that taking care of autism child is like a war that both of them a fighting the world together, u know he and she in that thing together but her daughter did not recognized him, so it was a lonely battle. It is really true when the client who have severe autistic child is jealous with the heroin who is the genius autistic person because most of the case, if the autistic child is born, 98% they were like her son. Kalenajoy Jul 08 2022 7:51 pm I am watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo and loving it! The writing for this show is brilliant! Big applause to the screenwriter, Moon Ji-Won, the producers, and also the brilliant cast. The cast of characters are all very enjoyable! I tell my friends and family about this show and encourage them to watch. Well worth a five-star rating on Netflix! hihihello Jul 03 2022 1:12 pm I love Innocent Witness! And it turns out it's not a coincidence that the movie was mentioned in the drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo. No wonder the drama depicts a very realistic image of someone with autism. Respect! DeeDo Jun 30 2022 8:00 am After watching Ep 1 of EAW drama..I knew there's something with Innocent Witness(One of my fav movie).. Wooyoungwoo make me think older version of Jiwoo..
