Bong-Pil (Kim Jae-Joong) has been preparing for his civil servant exam for the past 3 years, but he is not enthusiastic about his studies. He becomes disappointed that his lifelong friend Soo-Jin (Uee) will soon get married. He has loved her in vain for the past 28 years. Bong-Pil then falls into a manhole and travels through time. He struggles to prevent Soo-Jin’s imminent wedding.

Maybe because this drama thought me that we shouldn't linger on things we could have done before, more often we couldn't move on in our lives because we are full of regrets thinking if we did the other way around, our life would probably change big time, yeah its true but you could also lose all of the things you have right now either its bad or a good one because of the little changes you’ll do if you could go back in time. If you have watched the entire series you’ll know that, because of little changes he did in his past during his time travel, his future was also got affected big time. There's so much lesson in this drama I know that there’s so many plotholes but still, this would be one of my favorite kdrama. The ost is so good i swear I listened to it every time I get sad. (Sandeul B1A4) if you're looking for a sign to watch this, this it it!!!! Watch it guys!

They are unable to say how they feels but also they are way too obsessed about their feelings. Selfishness doesn't mean love. Despite bad plot and some logical problems, actors played well.

ARMY Mar 11 2018 6:51 am It's really sad that this drama got very low ratings. I don't think this drama was too bad. A lot of people complained about the plot. I agree that the plot was a bit awful. However, there's some interesting and funny scenes that will make you enjoy the drama. Uee's acting was good but I think they should've chosen a younger actress. Jaejoong was good too but I think a younger male lead was also needed. Both of the lead doesn't really look good together. I watched this drama from episode 1 to 16 and all I can say is don't bother of what people are saying about this drama. Go and watch it if you want to and judge it with your own preference. Thumbs up for the other cast too and I kinda enjoy this drama :)

I started this because of jaejoong (who could have chosen a much better project.) uee character here is annoying... the plot is sooooo slow (I think it would be better as a movie.than 16 ep) it had its moments but its was not thrilling. there was a few funny moments. but not enough to waste my time and energy. I have lots of other dramas to catch up on.

Instead you got dragged in pointlessly plot that could make you mad and asking why this and why that. While I love Uee then I really disliked her character in this drama. First, ep 1 the plot a little bit slow still watching (to early for give up) but it become more interesting in ep 2 until ep 4. After ep 5, it become more bored. I still dont get it why bongpil wasting too much time back in the past and comeback again in the future(2017). he tried change his past but still in future it will become more worst so what the point travels through time? I dont get it . bongpil love soojin and soojin love bongpil. Simple just married or be good couple. Why travel through time to change it? Not a good drama for me .I give up. Well, this only my opinion.

Allusion Nov 29 2017 11:28 pm The drama is slow at the beginning, but gets better with each passing episodes. The actors' performance are what held this drama together. The script isn't super, but it's not horrible. If you have nothing to watch, I would recommend this drama.

The pace is a bit slow and the ambience works better if you watch it at night rather than during the day but i will say this: It has a super dope script and the actors did a great job. The script was thought through; it wasn't some ridiculous time travel theory as is common with some of the unicorn plots that have garnered more ratings due to the leads and nothing else. I like the paradigms it presented with regards to how the future is directly linked to the past. I like the lesson it gave: some changes will make horrible outcomes no matter how small. Manhole was a nicely written script and I appreciated that

LL Oct 13 2017 1:57 pm Time travel is a common trope amongst Kdramas lately. Manhole joined that trend but added a little twist of their own. It had a lot of potential, as the lead casts are versatile and established.

Things I enjoyed: - Watching Jae Joong, in different characters - OSTs are good. Especially U-Kiss and Sandeul's - Cinematography - EP 5 and 6. I cried, seriously. - To some Bong Pil might be stupid for following only one girl, but realize that sometimes, you can't just force yourself to like someone else. Him being loyal and faithful was charming but also excruciating to watch sometimes lol.

Things I disliked: - Dysfunctional friendship. They always dismiss each other's feelings! - Didn't feel like a rom-com halfway through, or earlier - UEE's character didn't feel that relevant, not until towards the end :( - The story didn't really establish a real and progressive relationship between the characters because of the time travel and their future changing. This made the drama stale. It didn't build enough tension between the lead characters. - The ineffective use of flashbacks. Seriously.

It's unfortunate that we only got to see Jae Joong and UEE's chemistry on the last 2 eps, which I loved and enjoyed.

1. I love the cast & really great characters. Each characters have their own distinct personality.

2. I love the time travel concept. Plus it's scientifically true that if you change the past, the future will definitely change too

3. The sad thing, there's too much unnecessary talking

4. The drama moves too slow for me, like super slow

I gave up at around episode 8 I think. Throughout the years, I've only gave up watching on less than 5 kdrama

Absolutely amazing acting performance. Hyperactive, clumsy, at times almost stupid but so profoundly honest and good intentioned - just adorable.

1. Writing time travel fiction is hard to do for even the best writer's so idk why you guys were expecting anything great.

2. No resolution for what seok-tae and jin-sook did to keep pil and soojin apart. (Stealing mail) like were suppose to believe that they would want to stay friends with people who break privacy laws?

3. If your time travel laws aren't going to make sense at least have fun with it.

4. This drama could have been way shorter if lol had enough balls to just tell her like a man that he liked her. (I know it's hard to do from personal experience but still man lol)

5. It's written really poorly, but if you shut your brain off while watching this then it's so bad.

Pilluvu Sep 25 2017 2:49 am Luv this drama......very refreshing for summer. The male main lead character himself is different from typical cool character. Bong pil character is 'very human' in my opinion (not all guy in this world are perfect and cool).

Some might find his character as annoying in the first two episode but for me, rather than annoying I would say the drama start with us seeing his very uncool side and it is understandable bcoz he is in a very shock and 'urgent' situation bcoz his 28 years unrequited love is getting married in a week and nobody telling him that making him acting like a crazy guy. Then the story get more interesting as it goes on.

I also love how this drama show the live story of a normal person. Not those who live and work in a high class society. Very simple and nice. Life are like that somehow.

As soon as his friend reported the possible assault, he should have been running to the location. I'm going to watch the rest of the episodes and hope for a happy ending, but I wonder if any of the characters deserve it. Can't stand Seoktae. Would you really want to have a friend like him?

Some other dramas started promising but became incredibly predictable and draggy. Not this!! Love episode 14 when the first love between Pil and Soo Jin is reignited in a tense and despaired situation. May the cast and production team of Manhole continue fighting and put up a great finale that put all critics to rest!

M Sep 21 2017 7:51 pm Honestly, I love this korean drama. It is not predictable like many dramas are. It doesn't follow the kdrama formulas we are used to. I really applaud it's daring approach to Time Travel while still making it seem realistic. The Time Traveling shows the consequences and the "reality" that results from minor changes in Pil's life. But it also shows that despite piecing it all together in the way he wants it to be, life will play out as fate decides. I think the chemistry between the two leads is very convincing. They portray the suppressed emotion between the two. They also portray the consequence of love that constantly pushes and pulls them towards and away from each other, and how that will create a hopeless, lull between the two. I think it's honestly perfect

Same with his friends, they trust a stranger more than him. So Jin deserves what's coming for her. Goo Gil is an idiot for cutting off the posibility that Jae Hyun is the assailant even he has seen the scar. This drama makes all characters stupid. If I were Pil, I'd get off far away from Soo-Jin and his friends, find a better girl worthy of his all out devotion.

Instead of relieving stress, the male lead's character gave me more stress. Sooo stupid and selfish, making everyone's life difficult over a girl. Childish is an understatement. And the female lead, I have nothing nice to say. Seriously, she needs a slap in the face for being equally stupid. And by the way, I hope she's healthy, that skin and bones appearance doesn't look good on her. The other protagonist characters are fantastic. But I think Kang Hongsuk shines more in musicals. He's fantastic.

I missed the first few episodes. I hope they will be replayed. I watched them on WANN-CD Atlanta T.V. Station. Great directing job, good story line. Great cast of actors. I am now a fan. [spoiler] I realized after I watched ep 9, that not only Phil and Jinsook, and Seok Tae that was hurt, but Soojin, too. I didn't expected because from the very first time we only knew that Phil likes Soojin, and Jinsook like Phil and Soojin likes Phil, too (yeah finally we know the truth!). But she just hides it. She hides all of her feeling for Jinsook because she feels it such a late for her and Phil to be together. She loves Phil, but she loves Jinsook, too. And Jinsook doesn't realize that yet. And Soojin thinks everything will be alright if he let Phil go for Jinsook, but the fact is, she's wrong. She doesn't realize yet if that hurts Phil, too.

Oh gawd, this is make me so sick, but addicted at the same time! So this is what exactly u feel when u find a drama with all the characters u love and u just want them to stop hurt each other bcs it will breaks ur heart too for sure.

I feel like they are back pedaling now with the whole Soo Jin held back because of her best friend. It really didn't seem like she was going to hold back all those times he tried to confess. I was almost swaying to Jin Sooks side but stealing mail is childish.

Overall the drama is still interesting and I'll continue watching. Definitely not the worst drama I've seen as others have said.

Intercepting Pil's mail was so childish and that right there shows that they (Pil and Jin Sook) shouldn't be together. Also, what was Suk Tae's reasoning for intercepting the mail? A very dumb and childish reason. He's supposed to be your friend but you hurt him? Suk Tae and Jin Sook truly do deserve each other due to their childishness and selfishness. Soo Jin and Pil truly love each other and there's no doubt about it. I'm starting to grow tired of this back and forth. I just desperately want them to be together. Also, I would love to see Jae Hyun's true colors exposed because he's a piece of sociopath, obsessive, and cheating trash.

So, maybe we could get rid of the main romance aspect, and turn this into real sci-fi. After getting together with Soo-Jin, Pil thought it would be over. But the manhole opens again and he goes back to the loop. Now he needs to find a way to get out of the manhole.

But of course we're not getting this scenario. I think the drama had low ratings because he time traveled too much and because of Pil. I never seen a male lead so entirely focused on his love life. Usually this is the female lead's role. i just find it frustrating.

scarletberry Aug 26 2017 8:08 am The latest 2 episodes (5 & 6) are so touching! This drama gets better with every episode. You can feel how much Pil loves Soo Jin, and you find out more about the rest of the characters too - their feelings, their sentiments.

At first this drama may seem superficial but it's really more than that. There are depths to the characters and you see it in every episode, where you learn something new all the time.

It's a tearjerker, but also a silly romantic comedy that will keep you laughing! Recommend!

Maybe it's because Bong Pil still doesn't have a clear grip on how he's affecting the future by changing small things in the past (talk about butterfly effect). But EP04's ending might actually hint a progress with the plot.

I guess people are only noticing now about UEE's new look. Since I've been closely watching Manhole's progress ever since the announcement, I've already seen how thin she got. I think that was UEE's take on her character (especially that the scenes jump from HS-> College -> present). I hope netizens stop hating on her for that reason.

I saw a lot of comments talking about surgery or shaming by netizens... This is super sad. Her character is pretty bad and seems like the ideal pretty and feminine girl who doesn't do much and is rescued, wich is super annoying, but her acting seems to save it up so far... Idk, I really have mixed feelings about it so far.

It's just too tiring to watch. I loved chicago typewriter sooo much big kudos to the writer. Loved loved the best hit as well. I don't know if other time traveling kdramas can keep up.
