Plot

Au-jin’s life is a series of boring days, one after another, until she receives a call from a stranger offering her relief from her crushing monotony. To a woman suffocating in a listless routine, the stranger – whom she knows only by voice – is her only outlet, a personal friend she can pour her heart out to. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when a certain Madam KIM rescues her from her predicament, and she meets a seemingly debonair Min-su along the way.

JEyon Sep 03 2012 12:37 am ignore the cheery smile on the poster above - this is a grim and somewhat realistic look at a young mother and wife struggling to survive in Busan South Korea - with 2 young sons and a ne'er-do-well husband - at the films start - she's taking phone calls from perverts - however there is an understanding caller - but out of desperation - she slides into escort service - then prostitution

Jeon Mi Seon (pronounced like: chun mee sun) is an discovery - she seems real and sympathetic from beginning to end - uncertain - vulnerable - yet - somehow - a survivor

Korean films invest a lot in characterization - and this is almost a mood piece - focusing on the emotional lives of the people in the story - there is one bewilderingly prolonged scene of a woman getting beaten - one mild sex scene - both in the latter half - otherwise the film is about the inner turmoil of the woman - and who better to embody it than Jeon Mi Seon
