Set in the year 2019 in Japan. In order to crack down on free expression, a new law is passed, which allows for the government to create an armed force to find and destroy objectionable printed material. Meanwhile, to oppose this oppressive crackdown, the Library Defense is created. The Library Defense, including instructor Atsushi Dojo (Junichi Okada) and Iku Kasahara (Nana Eikura), work to protect the libraries. A fierce battle then ensues between these two groups.

Based on the light novel "Toshokan Senso" by Hiro Arikawa (published February, 2006 by MediaWorks, Inc.).

Brian Glubok Apr 01 2017 2:18 pm I just finished writing a screenplay ("Yoga Ninjas") in this genre - action comedy - set half in Japan and half in Brooklyn / NYC. Main characters are mostly Japanese.

 Does anyone have an agent's address for any of these people (Director / Producer / Star(s)? They are my forebears and I didn't even know about this movie! I would like to contact them about development.

EvelynW Dec 03 2013 10:00 pm It was such a joy getting to watch this movie first-hand in the cinemas for the Japanese Film Festival here in Melbourne, Australia! :) I am hoping to join as a volunteer for next year's film festival. Thus, am hoping I will be staying in Melbourne for that. Don't know if it will actually happen. Unfortunately, my friend and I were close to missing the last train so missed out on meeting the director. :"( Makes me tear up. The movie was so worthwhile! :D And neatly done. I think the actors did such a good job. And man, THAT DROP KICK. WOAH. Haha. Super! I loved the colonel too. I sincerely believe this movie lives up to its manga and anime counterparts. It could not have been better re-interpreted. :)

Icchan May 17 2013 6:15 pm I read Library Wars, the manga and love it s much!! I watched Kakusho and thought, Nana Eikura would be perfect as Iku if the movie were to be made... and then I stumble upon this here, Oh My Gosh!!!! It came true!!
