The dirge singer is paid to attend funerals and mourn for the dead. They are viewed as belonging to the lowest class. Yeon-Sim (Kim You-Jung) is brought up by her mother (Hwang Mi-Seon) to become a dirge singer like herself. Yeon-Sim refuses to follow in her mother's footsteps and cry for others. She flees to a home to become a gisaeng.

Yun-Su (Seo Jun-Young) was born out of wedlock and is only half a noble person. Because of his birth status, he can't attain the stature that his brother (Kim Dong-Yun) has. Yun-Su and Yeon-Sim meet at a delicate moment in their lives.

vitz Jun 12 2022 4:14 am Perfect Kim Yoo Jung's movie. It was done right, the focus was on HER. I hate it when some few directors tried to divert the focus from her while she always dominate the scene by her presence. This director appreciated Kim Yoo Jung.

Her Saeguk teenage years were the best because she effortlessly acted good. She carried this movie. Not a single dull moment. She made me teared up when she sang to those drunken men, really touching. No other actresses have made me cry like that.

She also had the best "dirge singing" aka the "aigooo, aigoo, aigoo". The other dirge singers sounded like ahjumma with back pain, but she cried sincerely.

Purple&Green Mar 19 2022 3:48 pm Kim Yoo Jung really nailed sageuk dramas no wonder she's the sageuk fairy and now already considered the Goddess of Sageuk dramas, her portrayal of her character in this special drama was outstanding. I liked this so much that I've watched it many times.
