Baek Seung-Soo (Namkoong Min) is the newly appointed general manager of professional baseball team Dreams. The team ranks bottom of the league. Lee Se-Young (Park Eun-Bin) is the operations manager of the team. She has so much love for Dreams and she never gives up on the team.

Heeb Tahara Mar 04 2023 4:10 pm 10/10 rating. Great kdrama. Having watched kdramas for 4 years, this was one of my all time favorite. Although I am a baseball fan, this shouldn’t deter a non-fan from watching. The acting is great, writing is great, touch of humor, a designated villain, no romance though. Which is fine. There are so many wonderful scenes. It was a pleasure to watch.

Producers may want to consider adding this to Netflix’s stable of kdramas. Share it with the world, not just Viki subscribers. Have many many non-Asian friends who have become kdrama fans from watching what Netflix has to offer.

arianne Jan 15 2023 12:18 pm rewatched and it's literally like im watching it for the first time haha still one of the kdramas i have watched. not really a fan of baseball but this one got me into it even though i don't really follow the terminologies despite it having definitions on the screen lol it's actually not a sports drama. it's more on the business/management drama that focuses on baseball. i totally love how mr. baek handles the situation. proves that the quiet ones are the most dangerous ones. his negotiation skill is ?. and to all our current kdramas, That Is How You End A Show!!! 10/10

The ending with Manager Baek left me thinking about the possibility of creating another season with him working to another kind of sports. HH2 Feb 05 2022 4:26 pm Any news about season 2? The ending made it seem like Baek would be joining a franchise of a different sport.. I'd love to see how that plays out; different challenges and different narratives. I'm kind of biased here but I wish the next season would be about Soccer/Football. I watched this in 2022 and it's been 2 years since the last episode aired so it's kind of sad to see there hasn't been any further news about the possibility of season 2. I wish it somehow happens.

anyway this drama is beyond perfection, I'm still speechless why is this drama isn't talk in town in twitter but it found out to be one of the most successful drama in term of korean rating and award and I have no idea that baseball has large fandom there.. furthermore the plot also suit for those who have 0 knowledge on baseball because all we have to do is understanding the heart of the drama.. and this drama has hearty writing despite of some heavy plot

I want to say a lot about this drama but it will be ended as an essay with full of spoilers to praise how amazing this drama is

This drama is not your typical korean drama but it is one of the best and unique drama i can say? I never seen any drama like this before, it is Masterpiece. now crawling up into my faves drama list omg. If you have not watch this drama, pls watch it. It worth every single time you spend on it. But still, even tho many people dont like the ending, i think it is the best they could do. The best, and more realistic to the real industry. As i saod before, it s not your typical kdrama type. So the ending got to be more realistic then. Please watch this drama.. oh and they won almost all of theawards, i have been wondering befote why did they won so many? Is this drama that good? Because the title not really attracting my attention but then when i watch it, i could not stop :(( and now gonna miss the dreams team. P/s: it is worth it even you know nothing about baseball. ^^

The best!

The title isn’t that catching for me at first but because I am such a Namkoong Min fan I decided to watch it, and oh boy that was such a good decision! I love the story so much, the acting is superb and I am happy that they did not push for any romance on this as I think that’s better - just focus on the good storyline they have!

I recommend this 101%

GT Jan 03 2021 6:43 pm Nah, I don't buy it. Oh Jung Se's character has always been a mean-spirited, vengeful one with a severe chip on his shoulders. I'm thus not convinced at the last minute about-turn he did in the series, no matter how much the writers want to convince me that he was a victim of circumstance - he was not, he made his choices willingly. So that's what left a sour taste in my mouth - the scene of him sharing a cup of coffee (made by his own Nespresso of course - cue product placement please) together with Nam Gong Min's Baek. I get that the series was trying to create a multi-layered character in Kwon, but he had done so many awful things to sabotage the Dreams that the last-minute bit he did really couldn't convince me that it was a good call on the writers' part.

That said, I love the show, and I understand how it had surpassed all expectations. I like that the romance love-lines were kept to the barest minimum, and that many of the supporting actors had their own moments of glory or were allowed to shine throughout the show. Of course, the stars of the show were obviously still Nam and Oh (meaning I loathe his character but I love his acting). The second leads Park Eun BIn and Joe Beong Gyu did a wonderful job with what they were given, especially the latter whose wide-eyed rich kid trying to fit in kinda role provided many laughs.

The jargons are kept minimal but focuses more on storyline. Very similar theme to other dramas such as Prison Playbook, Live, Misaeng, My Mister, etc which very much grounded to reality. Worth the watch and lots of potential to become a franchise series. I would like to see Baek Seungsoo to manage a soccer or swimming team the next round!

Took me a while to finish watching this drama due to 2 devastating typhoons that came to make our country and people suffer in addition to the pandemic. Glad tho to be able to watch a great drama that tells of a story of victory and redemption despite of the odds.

Very well done Hot Stove League Team! Would be nice if the producers can do a 2nd season with the same cast. After a year of taking on a job on another sport, Baek Seung Soo returns to PF Dreams.

It makes no sense to me at all and has frustrated me throughout the series so far ... Why would yo bother to fund a team and then do everything in your power to stop them winning and want to disband them ? Maybe there is something i dont understand about baseball but ... it seems nuts to me ! Haven't finished watching series yet so maybe its explained?

anddd OMG I want another season! I mean We Need Another Season! Though as much as I want all the cast to be in the next season and continue the story with the Dreams Team, it might be confusing for Baek Seung-Soo's role due to his last scene. If season 2 will happen, I'd expect it to be about another /different/ story for a different sport. Basketball or soccer?? Of course, we wouldn't want the same underdog team "plot" of a different team getting revived by Baek. If not, which is unlikely, the story would continue with the Dreams Team but without Baek :((

Hopefully, Writernim would create another great story for season 2 to happen!

I see here people complaining about the little scenes of the match and the baseball players. me too, I want more scenes of the match but in the beginning it has stated that “this isnt a story inside baseball, but a story outside it”. thats why I didnt complain. Its still interesting and fun to watch. The ending was happy but why am I a bit sad? Dreams without Baek Seung Soo feels so empty. It would be perfect if at least he was there with Dreams for the last time at the league. I want a scene like the promotion pic where baek seung soo smiles genuinely with all the dreams staff and the dreams team together.

I had finished this drama in 3 days and even didn't realize the last 6 eps is divided into 3 parts.

The most disappointed part of this drama, I can't see many scenes of the players. I really want to know more about Yoo Minho and his senior's relationship.

eyevan May 19 2020 6:03 am I got so attached to Dreams, especially with Yoo Min Ho. This kdrama was so good, the ending caught me off guard. I also didn't expect Pengsoo too be here lol.

Definitely a really good kdrama, it deserves more recognition tho. I finished it in two days bc of entertaining it was. I also loved the chemistry between the actors ahhh~

Otakuxhallyu Mar 08 2020 9:17 pm I am glad to watch this drama. The storyline is neat and intriguing. All the characters in it were written well and given justice in their own character developments. I have never seen this touch in other Kdramas. And romance doesn't really need to be inserted here at all.

I love how this drama has no damsel in distress characters, each character has powers on their own way, mainly mind and intelligence powers. Acting performances by the ensemble cast are on point.

The music was superb and matching with the tone of the story

Kudos for the writer (Lee Shin Hwa). A promising female writer who write good characterizations, strong male and female characters, fresh and compelling storyline, badass scenes (mind games, strategy battles, relatable conflicts, etc). The fact that many of this drama's audience are male makes me considering this drama for her parallels to Fullmetal Alchemist for Hiromu Arakawa (male pen name of Hiromi Arakawa, another prominent female writer in shonen demography in Japan), where both authors successfully write good stories with badass scenes hooking the male audiences to enjoy their writing.

I agree with Swaz' comment here. I also think Namgoong Min shines most in non-romance dramas with good storylines. He shines also in dramas which premises might interest male audiences (as a semi-otaku, I feel them close to shonen and seinen), like Stove League, Doctor Prisoner, Chief Kim, and Falsify. He has successfully transformed from the Prince or Knight on the White Horse from some of his older dramas (Rosy Life, 12 Years Promise, Secret Hotel, I Need Romance 3), one of Second-Lead kings, into the Dark Horse (through his 2 prominent villain roles in 2015 in Sensory Couple and Remember), culminating into the true versatile actor who now leads the dramas (2016 - present and onwards)

The only note that I would give for new audience of this drama is, I would suggest you that it is better to watch this drama while you are in really good mood. Why? Because the scale of conflict brought by this drama is quite big and the tone of this drama is sometimes dark and depressing. You might feel exhausted after watching every 1-2 episodes. Don't worry, keep your patience and keep continue watching it after having breaks. It is not bad at all with the good storyline and characters, while this drama also shows that there is always hope even in darkest situations if we are willing to make it exist.

Spy-Romance drama is no longer that relevant now because viewers nowadays prefer a thrilling spy/action drama with little romance in it. That's why Stove League did well. Mostly because of its fresh storyline and organize plot. Also because the actors are all well-respected figures in the industry. Namgoong Min's non-romance dramas have always received positive response from the public. Many of the other actors in this drama also had worked with him before. Oh Jungse acted as his older brother in Falsify, Park Eunbin in Hur Jun, Lee Joonhyuk in Doctor Prisoner so that must be the reason why the chemistry between actors are so good.

I love how all the characters having development even the characters that we first hate will become loveable because the character development. This sports drama is awesome now i know a little about baseball and see it from different perspectives. But it will be nice if they could add 1 episode to show us their competition. But i think this ending is nice too ^^

But can't point out where but somewhere I feel empty like something's missing in the last episode. But other than that I loved this one.

Im proud this drama include in top rating drama all time. Suddenly I remembered the first time I saw this drama cause I love Namgung Min's acting. Then I wait with full hope. First episode not having so much attention from people but suddenly after 3-4 it rises above. Im so happy for this drama cause this storyline about baseball is different from other. nxneko Feb 02 2020 6:17 am I've been getting bored of Kdramas lately. Too cliche, all they make is just the same genre of romantic melodrama. Then come the ad for this drama. Watching the first two episodes, i was blown away. The script, the act, the suspense, the thrill, the joy, all packed to this wonderful drama. Literally, wow! Even i'm so touched about Gil Chang Ju's story and Baek Seung Soo's past. This was a masterpiece. Yet, it was underrated because maybe not much romantic thingy in it. Every second watching this drama is worthy compared to all lovey-dovey-drama-that-is-too-good-to-be-true. Hwaiting, Dreams! Kudos to the script writer, actors and directors!

He plays "unique" characters really well; don't expect to see him in any rom-com. No matter how sad or serious the storyline is, you'll get a few chuck and giggles. As for the setting, I'm pretty sure when they went for scouting, it was filmed in Oahu, not California. Becoming a big Dreams fan. LOL.

The story line were believable and true to real life, with a bit of spice here and there. Namgoong Min is very good in selecting drama. Not sure whether the dramas he starred were all well written or he just very good in playing his roles. Hope there are no romance in this drama. There are a lot more to be explored regarding relationship between man and woman, rather than just a plain romance.

As usual Namgoon Min looks like he will deliver another astounding character portrayal. If you’re not a baseball fan, you’ll still love the story, and if you are, that just makes it that much better. I’m really excited for the next episodes.

NGM is one of the best, right there with Ji Sung though they take quite different roles and their faces are suited for different kinds of characters they both seem quite able to take advantage of our stereotypes of and also outwit us with! She is so endearing and this role will definitely make me a bit girl crushy since when she plays roles where she's hopeful, wistful, and enthusiastic, aww, it's like having a really eager happy and cheerful puppy with you! A lousy lowest league baseball team is a good change from what's been airing lately. Been a while since things like Glory Jane, Basketball, etc. aired!
