Soon-Ok (Kim Hae-Sook) lives on an island in Jeolla Province with her son Ki-Kang (Son Ho-Jun) and daughter Ki-Soon (Nam Bo-Ra). Ki-Kang dreams of becoming successful and he decides to go to Seoul to pursue that dream. Ki-Kang though becomes a criminal there and he eventually receives the death sentence. To save her son, Soon-Ok needs to write a petition. She is illiterate, but learns how to write to save her son.

When my older brother had a case, my mother did everything the same as Ki Kang's mother, but when my older sister had a problem, my mother didn't want to do anything, she just told my father to find a solution. I sympathize a little with Ki Kang's younger brother in this film. I also respect the mother's struggle in this film for her son.

IM Nov 05 2020 7:39 am A tearjerking movie indeed! True, mother's love is unconditional. Both of Kim Hae Sook & Son Ho Jun portrayed their roles very well.

Make a time to watch this movie, you wont regret!

Kat May 17 2019 5:32 am Got a chance to watch it. Son Ho Jun was sooooo good in it! He played a bad boy and he was convincing and at times scary with his hot temper. Even though he is known for being a shy and soft-spoken guy in real life and with his comedic roles he plays...he really pulled off the role! Hope to see him play more of this kind of roles in his dramas.

Of course, all the actors are good too especially the Mom and his sister. The editing and flow of the story is commendable. The violent/beating up scenes are so realistic that I think the actors might have gotten hurt for real. :( That's not so good, but it made the the movie more "authentic".
