When they were little, Edward Elric (Ryosuke Yamada) and younger brother Alphonse's mother passed away. The brothers attempt to revive their mother and perform a human transmutation which is taboo in alchemy. Their attempt fails. As a result, Edward loses part of his body and Alphonse loses his whole body. Edward sacrifices another part of his body to affix Alphonse's soul to a body of armor. Edward goes on to become an Alchemist. He sets out on a journey to find the “Philosopher's stone,” which has the power to get back what they lost.

Based on manga series "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" by Hiromu Arakawa (published from August, 2001 to July, 2010 in monthly magazine Gekkan Shonen Gangan).
Filming began June, 2016 in Italy and finished August 26, 2016. Filming took place in Italy for about a month and then in various locations around Japan.

Re.vivver Jul 29 2019 6:59 am I'm shocked read the comments. I agree there are some unanswered question, i'm frustrated with these because i don't watch the anime nor the manga. For those who followed the source of this movie, i can understand that this movie can't fulfill your expectation. But in my oponion, live action adaptation was created to tell other person who doesn't really into anime or manga (for example, me right now) how great the story was. And then, this movie did it. Now i know why fma is so popular. This movie almost make me watch the anime (yeah almost, i don't watch it in the end because i'm too lazy to watch so much eps)

The pacing of the movie is too rushed for the characters to develop. It falls flat from the beginning. Not sure if it's because the bad directing or cgi or the casts over-acting (that almost too comical), but everything just seems out of place. I enjoyed Yasuko Matsuyuki and Dean Fujioka performances tho, but it still not enough to change the fact that this movie is plain mehh...

And bruhh... even Nina + Alexander's hair looks better than Edward's wig

If you don’t watch the anime, you must watch it, because it’s really cool. The Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is the best anime i have watched, yes, I can said like that.

I bet you will cry when you watch the anime. If you look in the google, this anime is always in the article with title “The Best Anime Ever”.

The casting was Perfect but the story and plot was flat was very disappointing, at first it was interesting then it became confusing the writer could have done it better. A lot of Questions that has been left unanswered like: -Where is Ed's & Al's Father? -The lack of introduction of the Homunculus -Is Envy an Androgyny(combination of masculine and feminine characteristics)? -They have budget for Alphonse and other costumes, but not enough budget for Ed's wig I have nothing against using a wig but they should look make it more realistic like what they did for Riza Hokuai .

The actor Ryosuke Yamadais is like a long lost brother of the Korean actor Lee Hong-Ki(see A Korean Odyssey for reference) because of the way they talk, their gestures are almost a like and they even have similar face.

Hien Mar 16 2018 10:23 pm I watched the movie. I feel sorry for saying this but I didn't enjoy it as much as I should, considering some of my favourite actors and actresses are in here. I don't think the acting was not good in any way, but the length of the movie was too short for the plot, so we didn't get much insight to the characters, even Ed and Al.

FMA is my favorite manga and if they're gonna make a live action out of it, they'd better be all out. The teaser looks promising, & the CG is pretty decent too. Can't wait for next year!

Why is Shou Tucker there but not Ling Yao, Ran Fan, May Chang, etc. Why is Edward's hair such an... unrealistic shade of blonde? His outfit looks like it's made from cheap cosplay material as well. :/ Isn't Misako Renbutsu a bit too cute to be playing Hawkeye, though I must say I'm fine with Mustang's casting LOL. Nonetheless, though a bit anxious, I'm excited to see what comes!

Now.... tbh, we always knew that there were gonna be the anime weirdos who would throw a hissy fit and be all like 'Don't touch my anime/manga, leave it alone'. Let it go, you all knew this would be made into a live-action someday. Change is good, and I would like to see what FMA can be on ALL platforms. I don't just stick in my 'anime-only' bubble. Sure, I like anime. But come on. This is reality, and live-actions are way more dope than a Japanese cartoon. I like to see things with REAL people, not something animated.

It's been my on my wish list for so long I was about to give up on the idea of watching a live action movie of FMA .< I bet Dean Fuijioka is as dashing as Mustang! :D And.. and... Ryosuke Yamada have the right height to play Edward Elric, lol no offence to the fans though :) Also curious on Al's character, they most probably gonna cast a girl as the voice actor, me thinks :3
