Kim Hae-Kyung (Song Seung-Heon) is a successful psychiatrist, but he has only experienced heartbreak with women in his personal life. He is also a foodie and sometimes meets his clients, while having a meal.

Woo Do-Hee (Seo Ji-Hye) works for a media company that produces content for streaming services like YouTube. She goes to Jeju with the feeling that her boyfriend will propose to her there, but she only finds heartbreak. While she reels from her latest breakup, she runs into Psychiatrist Kim Hae-Kyung, who sat next to her on the flight to Jeju, and they decide to have dinner together. A love-hate relationship soon develops between these two headstrong individuals, even though they don't know each other's name.

When they get back to Seoul, Woo Do-Hee's boss wants her to produce a new show with Psychiatrist Kim Hae-Kyung or she will have to work with her ex-boyfriend. Woo Do-Hee is unaware that Psychiatrist Kim Hae-Kyung is the man she sat next to on the flight to Jeju. They meet again accidentally one evening and decide to become dinner mates.

ICE Jun 13 2023 8:41 pm Just finished watching the whole series in 2 days. Watched for both Seo Ji Hye and Lee Ji Hoon (my new favorite actors) AND the whole thing was cute, shed a dew tears here and there. The leads were superb and i learned a few things in this show. 10/10 ❤️

Renwa Jun 01 2023 1:20 pm Dinner Mate I so wanted to Love this drama but I found myself leaving it and returning too many times. Reviewer Sentinel was on point commenting the drama’s direction & editing were wanting. I’d add the script was sloppy needing serious restructuring/review. It could have been a 10/10. The main leads SSH, SJH, LJH and LHJ & PHS gave memorable performances saving this drama. SNE’s character and/or acting was so irritating causing me to leave the drama. The plots & sub plots had an identity crisis resulting in a hot mess at times. The character responses during certain poignant scenes were not always realistic reflecting lack of proper professional research. Mental Illness/Health as a main theme was interesting & laudable but not handled scrupulously as it should have been. The romances were handled with charisma between the actors/characters. Although a non Korean, I adore & get Korean humor as the best irrespective of where it shows up in a drama. That said, the use of humor perhaps for comedic relief in this drama was ill timed, misplaced, unnecessarily gross (a word I’ve never used for a K Drama). My apologies to all who worked so hard on this production and who saved it. My critique while perhaps over the top is a reflection of how invested I became and how seriously I take your hard work. Thank you.

Sentinel Aug 25 2022 7:07 pm [9/10 ] A good old rom-com, the story between two 'miserable' people with delicate heart finding themselves destined for each other. The story is bit cliche but really well written. It has plenty of really nice OST with various genre, just not so good directing and sloppy editing. If not for those, this really could've been 10/10 drama. Nevertheless, it's good, entertaining and actually worth a rewatch. (P.S. Seo Ji-hye's character here is very different with 'Lee Dan' from CLOY. It makes her smile all the more charming and actually adorable when she acts cute. A so-called *gap-moe* in the language of weebs.)

I am also glad that SJH took WDH's role. She is so perfect as WDH. Complicated, Witty, Selfless, Vulnerable, Lovable. Such a great actress. She has proven she is a Versatile Actress, A Chameleon.

This drama is just 'alright'. Not bad, but not good either. There is really nothing memorable or 'impactful' scene in this drama. The chemistry between the main leads are so-so. I only watched this drama for Na-Eun (Jin No-Eul) but her character annoys me (I believe that's a good thing because it means she did her character well that it makes me want to slap her because of her selfishness).

On the other side, the coloring of this drama is very pretty and aesthetic looking, and the OSTs are good.

So far my least favorite type of dramas are dramas about foods.

Ji Oct 24 2021 4:23 am I like the first episode. It really catches attention, a girl so happy with her relationship but ended up finding out she's been cheated on. He's even preparing for an engagement, and his employees know about it! How stupid and betrayed she must've felt. That's a total hook. Just like the first episode of fight for my way.

Unfortunately for dinner mate, it gets more and more boring. I can't really see how the 2 main characters come to like each other. Surely there are moments, but they're moving enough I guess. They're just flat.

It's kinda hard to sympathize with the characters. As someone who's been betrayed by love twice, Dohee moves on way too easily. I don't see her struggle that it's hard to be happy with her when she finally finds love again. The fact that it takes literally a day after she had her heart broken doesn't help at all.

The other conflict, which is the ex is also boring. This ex isn't the one who broke her heart recently so I don't get why she's that bitter about him. I mean, even compared to the latest ex, that guy did less damage.

While he is in the taxi cab in episode 3, there is background music called "Eight" (Prod & Feat BTS Suga) sung by IU and Suga. You will be enthralled by this Kdrama Romance Comedy. SSH is an outstanding performer. Highly recommended. I love his movies and Kdrama. He is our ultimate bias as an actor.

Anti No Eul Jan 27 2021 11:49 am Dude, i've been watching Kdrama since Autumn In My Heart (SSH as main lead also) and i've never hated a character like Jae Kyung and No Eul. sorry not sorry. most of the characters here are annoying, which means the actors did their job right. except for SSH/Dr. Kim Hae Kyung, wonderful and handsome as always. they should changed their titles into 'Deranged Exes' as their exes having too many scene here.

As someone who's been watching kdramas for years, I wasn't expecting the plot especially since poeple said it wasn't good but I think there's just something wrong with em' ? It's really addicting that I couldn't finish my tasks due the next day and just binge watched the drama

Elle Nov 13 2020 8:17 am I delayed watching Dinner Mate but when I did, I binged the entire drama. It was so good. I wasn't expecting the plot to go where it went with the ex-bf but it wasn't bad.

Initially, when hearing about this drama prior to it airing, I figured it would be similar to the Let's Eat drama series. It was nothing like that at all. I also enjoyed the ML/FL relationship on-screen and how it was written.

Even the OST is good.

I liked all of the relationships shown in the drama especially between Jung Jae-Hyeok and his doctor.

I didn't expect to like this drama as much as I did and wondered why I hadn't heard more about it. This drama is worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet.

I loved the adult & mature relationship/story and the superb chemistry between the 2 leads. Must add this to your watch list and you will not regret it.

My motivation for watching this drama is because I have always liked SSH plus I haven't watched CLOY but from the start I watched the spoilers, I was very interested in the role of Seo Dan played by SJH so when I saw the main partner they were of course this is a unique combination . I watched this drama after finishing IONTBO, so I thought at first that this DM would be a light drama that discussed a love story that started from "dinner friends" but after going through the first few episodes, this drama is not much different from IONTBO which includes healing drama. The problem that is raised is a common problem that actually happens a lot in society but is not widely discussed in public, about how something that happened in the past for everyone will be a part of someone's life in the future, whether for good or bad. At first I really didn't like the roles of No Eul and Jae Kyeong who were that persistent but as time goes by it will be seen what their reasons are, what their past difficulties will make the audience sympathy too... Overall, honestly this drama is underrated when viewed from the rating. Maybe one of the factors is due to the combination of time slots and genres that have never been like this before. But this drama is so worth watching, it's that good!

The most amazing part is the out of this chemistry of SJH and SSH and their portrayal of their characters. Very natural. Can't tell Reel from Real. Gave me the "Before Sunset" feels Watch it Peeps. You will not be disappointed.

After finishing the series in May, I still not getting over it and still hope they are dating in real life. Not giving the fans hope down, the two keep giving hints from each updates from them separately n now they just dropped us the photoshoot bomb as well as the announcement of their interview for DM shown in Japan. I just went on the moon and looking forward to this couple progress a lot

Do not base your decision whether this is good to watch or not solely on the ratings shown here. It is a well written drama, and like what the others have been saying, all casts did really good with their roles. Not only that it has a happy ending for the main characters, It also provided a satisfying resolution for everyone whether the protagonist and the antagonist. I watched Backstreet Rookie before watching Dinner Mate, which I actually liked, but I can say that I enjoyed Dinner Mate better than Backstreet Rookie. So in conclusion? Y'all should watch Dinner Mate as well :)

The side stories as well is good! For me this drama has the best character development! The plot is not so complicated but the way it resolves the conflict was so good! Must watch kdrama❤️

So if you have bad thoughts like suicide and obsession to someone, you should really look for help. Who knows, it might helps you out big time.

Also love that the female lead is a strong female character and the storyline doesn't have a lot of cliché Kdrama plot. The combination of comedy really makes it an interesting one.

No childish argument and silly misunderstood situation. ALSO Keanu laugh really the main highlight of this drama. how to get rid of it? hahahahaha.

Would like to root for seong heon and ji hye together in real life but seong heon is already attached. Anyway, I hope and wish to see them together again. Probably in a romcom coz they both have the knack for comedy. I also like the sister tandem of do hee and a-young and who wouldn't notice the chemistry between a-young and keanu. They are hilarious. Of course, there are some flaws but not enough to dislike the drama nor say it isn't good. The cast is perfect. Everyone has done their part so well and the story is great. Even Seo Kyung, Hyun Jin and Hye Won were admirable. Well done Dinner Mate team. Bravo!! Two thumbs up!!

I wish they focused more on Dohee and Dr. Kim relationship progress. They should improved the sweet scene with the main characters. The cuteness of the duo is undeniable though. Hope they land on a more fun and sweet drama in the future.

Great aspirations. Life should be like that. When someone leave you without any reasons and wanna rebuild the relationship without any apologize and reasonable explanations, why would be the idiots? Yeah, you can forgive but should never forget, so that you won't be stabbed with the method again.

I watched this because of Seo Ji Hye who played Dan from CLOY and she did not disappoint at all. Compare the two roles and she is very versatile and is a wonderful actress. SSH also showed a different side I haven't seen from his previous work but it is expected as he's an A-list actor in Korea. Anyways, they both had amazing chemistry with each other and it really showed. Just a warning for potential new viewers - this drama had so much food porn in each episode it really does live up to the title and makes you hungry after watching an episode. I recommend this drama if you want a break from your typical drama or life in general. This drama is more of like, for those who aren't really expecting anything but want to try watching something more uplifting (which this drama definitely does!).

I feel the homeless guy (who was a doctor himself) and the female boss are more intriguing for me in this drama than the story of DH & KHK! i may be wrong or anticipating too much but i'm now on epi 13 (25/26) and if i can use food to describe this, i think it's lacking something in way of a bit of salt or something to enhance the taste! I'm only watching bec of SSH & persevered so I hope the writer/s will find ways to kinda push this story a bit more interesting!

Maybe that's what happens in the original webcomic, but even for the sake of drama, it just feels so out of character for Dr. Kim. Given everything we've seen so far about him as a person and as a professional psychiatrist, I don't think he would have reacted like that, no matter how intense his own feelings were about that situation. That scene just feels too exaggerated and it left me with a bad taste.

wtf_is_wrong_with_everyone Jun 30 2020 4:31 pm I never read the webtoon but this story is so poorly written. Jae-Hyeok doesn't just have a mental illness, he is a predator. Viewers were already mad from last episode when Do-Hee was still looking around for the perpetrator. But ep12 made me even more pissed. In real life, Do-Hee would be dead. Breaking into the apartment should have been the final straw and a restraining order should have been requested immediately. He should have already been reported when he bruised her arm. The writer makes not reporting him seem like the noble thing to do since they have history and he was once a "good" person, but in reality it only enables Jae-Hyeok and makes him worse. He needs therapy, medication, and JAIL TIME! If he has a redemption arc without proper punishment...imma flip a table. OK done venting. Still love the main leads.

Cast does such a great job with their parts that makes the story interesting and fun. Seo Ji Hae (Do-hee) is refreshing in this role as her acting skills is out of the box fun and relatable. Though Shin Min A was first choice, Ji Hae is a great substitute and earned her role..so happy for her. As for veteran Song Seung (KimHae-kye), he’s charismatic, professional, and charming in his role...perfect pair. Great unfolding story, top knotch acting, makes for a winning drama. Greatly recommended.

I gave it a chance just out of the blue and I'm happy I did. I'm surprised that this is actually from a webtoon, and what I enjoyed the most is it has really good soundtrack from the start. Overall, this is giving me a happy vibe, although I'm not sure I can stick 'till the end.

SPOILER Okay, do hee’s ex is bordering on being an obsessive stalker. Someone has told you No on countless occasion and you still believe she loves you, but she is lying to yourself. Nah! Right now, I think you are the one lying to yourself, how can you leave someone for 5 years and just waltz back into their life thinking they put their life on pause for you. Uh uh that is not how life works. The world does not revolve on you, so move on. Also, Kim ah young even stated in an earlier episode that he didn’t even travel anywhere. So why the pretense.

And what in God’s name was the action of trying to kill No Eul by stating that you are trying to put everything back to how they were. If not for Do Hee trying to avoid the accident, that would have surely been a big accident. Now he is a psychopath.

The ost are really nice too it fits the mood perfectly :D The romance are very subtle but you can definitely fee the romance from the early episodes!! and its reallly funny ad the humor are very natural its not i swear im smiling and laughing every single episodes.

It was'nt because she were off, but because i got the feeling that she might be way better from the lead actress. I don't like to have second lead syndrome, so its better for me to drop the drama. I came expecting gorgeous, sizzling, well lit and filmed food and the characters stuffing themselves and I barely got some glimpses of two bowls of something. Hope there's actually more ''dinner'' in future episodes because I was a bit disappointed. Or it might be that I'm still hung up on ''Let's eat''. Good drama tho.
