In 2003, elementary school teacher Seiichi Yabushita (Go Ayano) is accused by Ritsuko Himuro (Kou Shibasaki) of physically abusing her son Takuto Himuro (Kira Miura) as corporal punishment. Reporter Michihiko Narumi (Kazuya Kamenashi) gets wind of the case and reports the case using Seiichi Yabushita's actual name in the article. His article shakes the entire nation and Seiichi Yabushita becomes the target of the media. Seiichi Yabushita's life is ruined.
Meanwhile, there's countless voices supporting Ritsuko Himuro and a large legal team of 550 people is formed for Ritsuko Himuro. The case develops into an unprecedented civil lawsuit. Virtually everyone is pulling for and expecting Ritsuko Himuro to win the case. The trial begins.
