In a small village on a remote island, seven people spread among five families are murdered. Kim Bok-nam (Seo Young-Hee) is a resident in the village, a girl with innocent looks but with a dark side as well. Bok-Nam tries to runaway from the island where she finds the residents to be cruel, but cannot escape. Tragedy soon awaits for Bok-Nam ...

Yo xiao May 11 2018 8:25 am Disturbing thrilling . This movie have many morals story implied. We can't ignore the crime if we are the witness. People who grew in the wrong environment they will grew in the wrong way. We can see from the village people which seems not to be normal. They are insane, extremely patriachy, underestimated women it taught from their own parents. The unhealthy situation become insane.

You should watch this if you thriller movie.but it will be disturbing. Really good movie though so many moral values in this movie

Francisco Dec 02 2013 10:50 pm Let me put it this way. I saw this movie a while ago, but I have never forgot it and it is still vivid in my mind. This is a movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. First it starts while everything is mysterious to the audience, then it turns into a crazy and intense suspense. When the movie is over, your jaw is opened. In this movie, you will get angry and you will find yourself wishing you could go into the screen and kill a few characters. This is embarrassing and it is a huge sin for someone religious like me. But I won't sit here and not type the truth. And this is simply the truth.

Do you want to see a crazy movie full of mystery that turns into a suspense that will give you all kinds of emotions? Then watch this.

Evilyn Garnett Jun 05 2013 2:31 am This movie deserves so, so, much more attention than it is getting. Just reading some of the responses on Netflix brings me a glimmer of hope for the human race. If this were the old days, or a theatre piece, people woold have been shouting and throwing things at the stage. It has that good steak satisfaction you get from watching a well crafted revenge drama, but it's also complex, if not in it's depiction of evil, than in the ways we aquiesece to and collude with it. Leading us into the narrative using an extremely unlikeable character as our guide was a rtisky strategy, but it pays off--even in how angry the audience feels that she doesn't quite get all that's coming to her. It may be a heavy handed scenario, but I've not seen a clearer illustration of Lateral Agression, or in this case Lateral Passive Agression. Seo Yeong Hie does an amazing job, deploying her physicality like razor. There is a scene when she's eating on the porch, eating when she should be acknowleging her humiliation, according to the crones who guard the gates of her world. Her posture and her face is both defeated and defiant, and you cheer every mouthful. Since this is a revenge film, you also get to cheer when she finally listens to what the Sun in the sky is talking about. The audience leans into every swing of Bok-Nam's scythe. This moive also has a classic line in the making. And if you don't like it, put some bean paste on it.

Cast of Bedevilled
Fortunate enough to catch "Bedevilled" during this year's PiFan festival with the main cast & director appearing before and after the screening of the film. First off, I'm not a person that's usually into "thrillers" since "The Chaser" pretty much satisfied any and all interest I have in the genre. Yet, "Bedevilled" left me shocked, jaw opened, and monetarily speechless. The first half of "Bedevilled" feels like your typical Korean thriller situated on a small rural island with main character a mainlander/city folk. Yeah it felt like "Paradise Murdered", even the recently screened "Moss" and what not. But the second hour is a whole another story. This is where the movie turns into a full blown horror film in an unexpected way. Watching someone slashing away at victims with a sickle isn't fresh or original per se, but it felt so in "Bedevilled". Perhaps it was because the person slashing away was a a woman (Seo Yeong-Hie) or because it came about in an unexpected way (first hour ho-hum thriller then step on the gas pedal pyscho horror film). The woman played by Seo Yeong-Hie dealt with horrible abuses on the island during the first half which at times felt exploitive, but with the second half all that seemed to make sense in the grand scheme of things and the movie clicked.

I didn't expect to like "Bedevilled" but I came away going "whoa ... that's one crazy film". I was pretty happy to have caught the screening. And yeah, Seo-Yeong Hie sure was pretty on the stage, as was the other cast members, but she did stand out like a certified star should. Worth checking out if you are adventurous and not squeamish.
