High school student Jinta (Nijiro Murakami) is a hikikomori and lives in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. One summer day, when Jinta is absorbed in a video game, a girl suddenly appears in front of him. The girl is Jinta's childhood friend Meiko (Minami Hamabe), but it seems impossible because Meiko died on a summer day. Meiko wears the same white dress when she died, but she looks a little taller. She tells Jinta that she has a wish and that's why she came back as a ghost, but Meiko can't remember what her wish was.

To grant Meiko's wish, Jinta along with his friends Atsumu (Jun Shison), Naruko (Airi Matsui), Chiriko (Marie Iitoyo), Tetsudo (Yuta Takahata) and Meiko gather together for the first time in 7 years. Jinta soon realizes that he is the only one able to see Meiko.

Phie Chan Nov 18 2016 6:56 am I was worried that this LA would be not good as the anime. I WAS WRONG! This successfully made me cry like a baby! T_T The actors were also pretty good at acting. All the characters portrayed as the one as the one on anime even though i still regret that Menma hair was not white (lol). But i totally in love with Minami Hamabe(Menma), she is such as goddess! Can't believe she is still 16 years old! Overall this LA is worth watching! Just don't forget to prepare some tissues T_T

Anna Jun 08 2016 10:54 am The anime and live adaptation made me cry so much. The story taught you about friendship and letting go of regrets in the past. Wow, the LA used OST from anime too. Nice lice adaptation. Most of anime scenes were in the SP. Really drained my tears.....the emotional feeling lasts longer....seriously..

@randomdhi Jan 17 2016 12:51 am I highly recommend to see the anime first so that you can get better grasp of the live version. First of all transforming anime/game into a live action is not an easy task and based on that, the movie in my opinion, has succeeded it, by putting much attention to the details, such the locations, characters, including their clothes etc, also scenes like the one when they light up the huge firework or the secret base setting are exactly like the anime. The main plot itself is same like the OVA anime but it feels to be forced and squeezed so that many lovable moments from the anime couldn't make into the movie, but it's still "forgivable". Acting in some scenes are bit stiff and awkward but in general, the super buster peace casts are really good, especially in sad scenes, including the ending.. Speaking of the ending, man, I didn't think I'd cry after experiencing the anime, and OVA.. The feels awaken.. Those invincible onions.. Plus they use the same sad BGM as the anime.. Those bastards T_____T

gisborn Sep 26 2015 12:53 am I'm speechless. They've really done a wonderful job relieving the anime. I'm feeling the same feeling I got when I was watching the anime... and I'm crying all over again....

I just wish that they would've portrayed more of Anaru's happy go lucky, cheerful side though... She seems too depressed most of the time in the SP.

Nonetheless, I'm very proud of the outcome. I'm cherishing every moment of the SP, like I didn't want it to end.. The SP was awesome!
